Room Mate Aitana

"How did it strike you on arrival?Located just a short walk from Centraal Station, the ultra-modern glass building that is Room Mate Aitana glitters on an island in the middle of the Ij River. This is an ideal hotel for both design-lovers and youthful business travelers. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The bright rooms benefit from natural light pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows with expansive city or harbor views. The decor is almost all white, save for swaths of monochromatic color in the form of designer chairs, throw rugs, long drapery, and headboards featuring geometric patterns. Anything stand out about other services and features? The Aitana Lounge Bar offers 50 types of beer and regular tasting sessions to go with them. Also choose from 10 different gin and tonics. Another perk: the extensive gym is open 24 hours a day. Bottom line: worth it, and why?A playful yet business-like hotel that offers value combined with modern convenience, all by Centraal Station." - Meredith Bethune

"Aitana is a handsome design hotel on the IJ, and quite an exceptional one too! Lots of light and minimalist designs in the themed rooms and suites create a relaxed ‘Zen-like’ feel. Breakfast is served until noon, allowing guests a lazy morning in the comfortable beds. A nice extra touch: the hotel has its own marina." - Tablet Hotels

This hotel was perfect for our stay. It was a 12-15min walk from Amsterdam Central station. The staff were welcoming and made you feel relaxed, nothing was too much trouble and they were happy to help. The room was beautiful, spacious and spotlessly clean. We had breakfast each morning with excellent choices but was very busy. We had drinks in the bar and there was a lovely atmosphere. Overall experience was great and we would recommend and stay there again. Thank you

Stylish, modern, and in a good location if you don’t mind a 10-15 min walk to the city centre but stay away from the crowds. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a great view. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Great for a short city break in Amsterdam. Would definitely stay again!

We arrived in Amsterdam at 7:00 AM and understood that early check-in wasn’t available, which was fine as it was clearly stated that check-in begins at 15:00. The staff kindly held our luggage until then. However, when we returned at 15:00, we were told the room still wasn’t ready and were asked to wait upstairs with complimentary tea and coffee. We were also told our luggage would be delivered to the room once it was ready.||After waiting over 45 minutes with no update—despite multiple staff members (including the same two we spoke with earlier) walking past us—we returned to reception to check on our room. The same staff member who had checked us in at 15:00 suddenly claimed not to recognize us or find our booking in the system. Despite him earlier processing all our paperwork, he demanded proof of booking again. It wasn’t until we involved another guest from our party that he miraculously found us in the system—but still asked for more proof before finally handing over the key cards.||When we arrived in the room, none of our luggage was there. Back at reception, another staff member said we had to wait as he was prioritizing others’ luggage, which we understood. However, when it came to our turn, he asked for a luggage ticket and seemed unsure which suitcase was mine—despite me explaining and offering to unlock it as proof. Two out of three of our bags had tags, but mine didn’t. Still, it was uncomfortable and unnecessarily awkward.||Additionally, while every other guest had their luggage delivered via a trolley to their room, we were the only ones told to take our own up—despite being told at check-in that staff would bring it for us.||The hotel itself is in a great location and the facilities are nice, but the experience was let down by poor staff communication and a lack of follow-through on promises. Disappointing service for what could’ve been a smooth and pleasant stay.

The hotel has a great location, beautiful view, spacious rooms, and friendly reception staff. However, the rooms are not cleaned daily. I stayed for the first 3 days without any cleaning, even though I went down every day to request housekeeping. Eventually, they cleaned the room, but I had to go in person to the front desk every day to ask for it. I also submitted a complaint, but no one responded.

My husband is Dutch and this is our favorite hotel while in Amsterdam. Their large spacious rooms and proximity to Central Station make this an idea location for your stay in the Netherlands. They have an amazing buffet breakfast and pretty views on the water. Their staff is also very accommodating with any help you may need. We love to stay here rather than in the center because it is just easier to get around not being locked into the traffic of the city center and the center hotels rooms are MUCH smaller in the canal houses. There are always Ubers near Central Station so if you need one they usually come in minutes. Also, it's a short walk to many bars and restaurants (including our favorite Bistrot Neuf on the Harlemmerstraat) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a very pleasant experience. The location is excellent and made it very convenient for exploring the Amsterdam central station area. Our room was comfortable, the building is stylish, and we enjoyed our time here. There are a couple of areas where improvement would make the experience even better. First, the reception staff were chatting with each other while assisting us. It wasn’t a big issue, but it did feel a little unprofessional.Second, the lifts could use some attention. They were quite slow during our stay, and on the day we checked out, none of them were working. We waited for about 15 minutes and eventually had to walk down 10 floors to reception (luckily, we didn’t have heavy luggage). What surprised us more was that the reception staff seemed unaware of the problem and didn’t acknowledge that there was an issue when we and other guests told her so.

Horrible stay from start and beyond. Arrived to rude and unfriendly staff. We were early and told that hopefully a room would be ready at 3pm but that was not guaranteed which seems absurd. Our luggage was stored, but staff treated this as if they were doing us a huge favour. ||||We returned to the hotel about 3.30pm and the room was ready. Our friends who were also checking in at the same time then had to wait for their room despite it being 30mins after check-in time. Why do they have a 3pm check-in if they can’t actually meet that time.||||Our room was cold and dusty. When the room was cleaned things were strangely moved around, for example sunglasses taken out of their case etc. ||||Then the worst part… I lost a favourite top. I don’t know if it was stolen whilst I was there, or stolen afterwards. That fact that things were unnecessarily moved in the room makes me suspicious it was whilst we there. I have never in my life before left something in a hotel room.||||I called the hotel as soon as I was back in the UK and saw the top was missing and the person on the phone said they would make sure the room was checked and also check lost property. I never heard back. I called the next day and got through to someone who said there was no record of my earlier call and they were not interested in helping at all. They insisted I had to send an email. After doing this and sending multiple emails chasing for a response, I was told they obviously would not be giving me back my top and “thank you for your understanding”. No apology.||||I am so upset we didn’t read the other reviews before booking otherwise we would have stayed elsewhere and had a far nicer trip.

Great view and fairly central located. Short walk to the central station. Friendly staff and clean modern rooms. Overall what you would expect from a 4 star hotel level so can recommend.

Yelp
Second time staying here and I love this location ! It's a 5 minute walk from downtown so you don't need to use your car once. We had the pleasant surprise of having two walls just water front it was gorgeous ! A view only a king could dream of. As we were 3 people we had to switch rooms so bye bye view, we got a room with a single bed couch with a view of the entree to down town it was nice as well. The bar on the 1st floor makes the best old fashions I've ever had. The waiter really knows how to make them. He took his time and really took care of us.

Yelp
This is a gorgeous hotel .. very clean and love the decor and art. The bed was super firm which we didn't prefer. plus alot about travel experience is location location location and not a fan of this location. We stayed 2 night at the Renaissance hotel and the beds were far more comfortable .. the staff the most helpful of our whole trip and the location was perfect. Then we met up with our Globus tour here .. and compared to the other hotel the room mate would not be somewhere we would return to our recommend. Had a dinner a breakfast here .. and not a fan of the food either. I see from the pics here that some the rooms were really pretty .. our was rather plain. the AC didn't get cool enough for us but luckily it was early May but in the summer it would have been very uncomfortable. The door to get to our room was super heavy ..not a problem for us but elderly or mobility issues would have had trouble. But my real issue with this hotel is i like to be in walking distance from the action and this was way out from everything. We had to spend a ton on UBER to get back and forth which was annoying.

Yelp
My wife and I love to now and then stay in a cool hotel in our own beloved Amsterdam. It's what people call a staycation I guess. We don't just see a hotel as a means to only spend the night during a city trip, we see it as a way to get pampered, to relax and unwind too, so the complete experience and service experience is important to us. And let's face it: that's exactly how hotels can differentiate themselves from AirBnB. We arrived in this relatively new hotel on a Friday and left the following Monday. It is situated not far from Amsterdam central station and the city centre, at a tiny little harbour for luxury boats and yachts which serve as a nice decor for the hotel's restaurant and cocktail bar. Nice. And also the ferries to the hip up and coming Amsterdam north, across river IJ, are only a walk away. I would advice people visiting this hotel for a city trip, to hire bikes, because a huge, nice, free, modern and save bike garage is just opposite the hotel. The hotel itself is very modern and stylishly decorated. Awesome furniture everywhere. Especially in the cocktail bar it's nice to relax in the über comfy chairs and sofas. Because they not yet finished preparing our room, we were treated a wine on the house there, lovely gesture. Everything looks impeccably clean and very well maintained, as if the hotel just opened doors a day ago. That new. Also our room was impeccably clean and stylish... and the view! Oh, the view! Room 1102 is on the 11th floor and happens to be one of the rooms at a corner of the hotel, which offers AMAZING views over Amsterdam AND river IJ! So cool and totally worth the little wait! Awesome! Go for those! The bed was really very comfy, the shower really very nice -a huge one hanging from the ceiling- and the minibar was filled up with anything one could wish for, plus: on top of it a watercooker for tea AND a Nespresso machine plus coffee cups for free coffee. Furthermore our room was really quiet. Not the slightest noise from the outside world nor noises from other guests managed to pass through the thick walks and windows. And: enough wall sockets to charge all your phones, Bluetooth speakers and whatevers. So, yes. A very very pleasant stay. Also breakfast is great! And is served until 12! Finally a hotel that understands. The restaurant again stylish and cosy and the food fresh and very tasty. Nice to gaze at the boats in the little harbour from your breakfast table. But: the best this hotel has to offer: the people working here. Always so friendly, helping, understanding, kind, attentive, smiling genuine smiles! Staff is awesome here! The people of this hotel make you feel very welcome and special, fantastic hosts! Check-out was till 12, so no need to set the alarmclock too early. I guess you'll understand by now this hotel comes highly recommended by me and my wife. Topnotch in its category. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
This hotel is really posh looking and has a very contemporary feel to it. The staff are friendly and ready to help call a taxi or guide you in the right direction. The rooms are spacious and have windows that actually open to let in fresh air. The rooms also seem to have different themes. Ours had swanky decor and our family member's room had bicycle themed/hip culture decor. Interesting idea for a hotel. The location is beautiful if you want to be on the water/overlooking the city. Get ready for the wind though. We were here in November and it was super duper windy and chilly walking around the hotel. The other draw back is that it is not the closest walk to the city center, though it's pretty close to the train station... 10 minutes or so.

Yelp
Hotel is located on the dock and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. We arrived at the hotel in the morning and we were able to check in which was much needed after long flights from California. The hotel is very modern, classy and gorgeously decorated. Room was very spacious with floor to ceiling windows allowing for a lot of natural lighting and great views. The bathroom toiletries were very unique, bed very comfortable, ample amount of closet space and a safe in the room. Staff was very friendly. They have two bars and a large lounge area with a lot of seating. Loved everything about this hotel!!

Yelp
Good location in Jordaan neighborhood but a little nestled away. Very close about 5-7m walk from Amsterdam centraal station which was a huge advantage for tourism. Good views are available upon request or upgrades. Late checkout also available at a reasonable price. Staff was friendly , helping and courteous. Didn't try the hotel breakfast. But the hotel has three nice cafes right opposite that have nice vegetarian, vegan and healthy options like juices etc. among others like coffee, bagel etc. at a great price. Room was nice, clean, about 4* quality. Big TV, free internet (strong) and coffee maker, locker and iron. Lobby is pretty, they also have a nice business center which is free for prints and Internet surfing. Evening ambiance in lobby was nice with drinks and good music. No complaints. I'd come back here.

Yelp
Oustanding experience! The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The room was nice and cleaned very well every day. We also called to ask for a place to purchase a US to European power adapter and they brought one to the room (within 3 minutes) to use for our entire stay, free of charge! Midway through our stay, our sink clogged up a bit... The staff promptly took care of the problem, wrote a nice apology letter, and even gave us a coupon to the bar for 2 free drinks for "our trouble." Top notch customer service and a wonderful place!

Yelp
This hotel is really nice looking inside and out . . . very clean lines, modern, gorgeous decor. Our room was very clean and nice and we had a beautiful 180 degree view on the eleventh floor. However, the service does not match the appearance. Reception staff is not helpful and will actually ignore your requests. First, I was joining my husband after four days. The girl couldn't find the reservation and spent 10 minutes asking me questions about our name and what other possible names the reservation could be under. She seemed very annoyed that I could not provide her with an alternate name. She finally found the reservation and said it was misspelled, but no apology for my time. She then neglected to give me the information sheet listing the wi-fi code, etc. and I had to ask her for it since I saw another guest receive it while waiting. Second, I could not find the hair dryer. Called the front desk twice and both times she said she would send housekeeping to our room. 45 minutes later my husband went down to the desk and she told him she was 100% sure it was in the closet (which it wasn't). She told him she would come up herself, but 20 minutes later (when we were leaving the hotel), she was still behind the desk. Third, I called the front desk to ask the name of a restaurant that was on the water next to the hotel. He told me it was either "Moon" or "Madame." I told him it was neither because it had two words. I even spelled out the first 4 letters of the name that I remembered. He again told me it was one of the two he mentioned. When I asked him to ask the other person at the desk he said he would find out and call me back (it was 2 a.m. so not busy). I said I would wait (because I was now familiar with the service) and he hung up on me! So, I found out myself and called to let him know the name. He said, "Ohhh, that is another one." Yes, clearly. This is an excellent example of not judging a book by the cover. Initially, super excited but ultimately, not impressed.

Yelp
Ugh... I hate having to write negative reviews... and you can tell by my stats that I don't do it too often. But... after being woken up 2 times this morning by some kind of drilling/banging noise, coming from the roof, I can't say I'm very happy with Room Mate Aitana. Yup, the 1st time was at 8am and the 2nd time was just before 9:30am... absolutely unacceptable. Yes, it's a beautiful hotel. Yes, I got fairly 'decent' prices with an early bird special on Agoda.com. But no, those facts aren't soothing me right now. This hotel is visually pleasing and brand new so the rooms are clean and more spacious than what you'll typically find in Amsterdam. I was very excited about the find when I was planning the trip. Unfortunately, there are too many things they need to work-out to make it a great experience. Most importantly, the water in the shower runs hot, then cold, then hot, almost at a regular tempo. This does not make for a nice shower, though their shower heads are nice. Also, the hot water in the sink tap is extremely hot, burn your hands hot... so beware. You can see the pressure changes if you turn on the sink tap and let it go for a couple of minutes. We changed rooms, hoping to solve the hot/cold shower issue but it didn't help. Luckily, I requested a room with a bathtub on our 2nd room so at least I could run a bath and have the water mix before I got in. Other annoyances include room keys that rarely work. I had to go downstairs to have them reprogrammed multiple times and once they had to send someone up with me to open the door. Of course, we had to go downstairs if we needed something because we couldn't get them to answer via phone. Anyway, the staff at Aitana, from the reception to the room cleaning, were all very pleasant and nice. And again, the decor and rooms were great, though not well lit... too bad about all the little kinks. I hope they have them worked out soon (the hotel has been open less than 2 months right now). It's a bit of a walk to the central areas, about 20 min, which would have been fine, had it not been raining, cold and windy all 3 days we were here. There are no taxis right outside so they'll have to call one for you (plan in advance) or you'll have to walk to Central Train station, which is only about a 10 min walk. From there, it's easy and much cheaper to take the track trains that go around the city, anyway. Would I stay here again? At this time, probably not. Paying $600 for 3 nights isn't something I do often so when I do, I expect to be able to wake up when I want and have a shower that doesn't play tricks with water temperature. Won't see ya there.

Yelp
Extremely happy with my stay here (May 2014). The staff were all very friendly and attentive. I had a great spacious and modern room, complete with not-so-bad toiletries. Bed and pillows were all comfy, well stocked mini bar, and the room service was ok - could do with more of a selection on their menus, as well as in the restaurant & bar. The decor throughout the hotel is modern and trendy, I personally liked the bar area overlooking the small marina. The location of the hotel is great as it's not far from the train station, but if you don't want to eat in the hotel it is a but of a hike to find somewhere else. Pleased to say taxis are now on standby outside the hotel, and I had no issues with the shower/bathroom. Hotel offers free wifi!!! All in all I'd recommend and def stay here again.

Yelp
Just spent a night here, but was pleased. I booked through Kayak, which worked well - paid online, and when I arrived, all was ready to go. If you go to Room Mate's website, it seems you can get on their mailing list for discounts, which I assume you would book directly through them. I had a long layover in Amsterdam, and thought I'd take the opportunity to have a quick trip to the city. From the airport you can take a train to the Centraal station, which is about a 5-10 minute walk to the Aitana. Some of the walkways are cobbled, so can be a bit rough if taking wheeled luggage across, but very doable. Take the bridge to the Palace of Justice, and that will lead you to the hotel entrance. The interior (as well as the exterior) has a very modern style, that is clean and polished-looking. The desk staff were friendly, and I had a quick check-in. The hall to my room reminded me of being on a ship. My room was white with blue accents, and no smoking is allowed so everything smelled fresh. I liked the room design, and though only on the second floor I had a nice view of the little marina and buildings across the street. My only complaint was that there was no overhead lighting so the room felt a bit dim, but the bed included a reading light, so no worries about taking some time to read in bed. The bathroom was small but functional, my particular room just had a shower, which had a nice rain showerhead and detachable wand. The minibar was well stocked with drinks and snacks, though I didn't opt to have any. I didn't have time to check out the lounge or eating area, but they looked like nice places to meet up and chat with someone over a drink. I didn't visit gym, but there is one, and there are two computers and printer available for guests to use - free WIFI of course! The hotel isn't immediately next to anything highly interesting (that I could see), but is just a 15 minute walk to the center of the city, where you can really start to see some of the sites.

Yelp
Good venue to host company meetings and events. Did not stay in the rooms, but the hotel is centrally located. The lounge bar is really nice and the cocktails are good. It is pricey so be aware of it.

Yelp
Really happy with our stay at Room Mate Aitana. We were looking for something slightly out of the touristy area of Amsterdam, being our first time there and not knowing what to expect. The hotel's location is right on the water with a beautiful view! It seems like it's on it's own little safe island. Centraal train station is literally 5 minutes walk, Central Amsterdam area is 5 minutes walk. The room was modern, clean and had a wonderful view - I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Do yourself a favour and hire a bicycle or scooter, you will see so much more of Amsterdam! Make sure you head to Jordaan, super close to the hotel!

Yelp
Hotel stayed at in Amsterdam 8/23-8/26, super nice great location. 10 min walk from Amsterdam central on the water

Yelp
Inconvenient location. It is close to central station, within walking distance if walking without luggage. It is a obstacle course if your lugging your luggage. Hotel overall was nice, clean and comfortable. With the exception of one young man the front desk was friendly and helpful. The restaurant had decent food but the staff were not pleasant cooks complained and the tables were not promptly cleaned, dirty dishes everywhere. The bar was overpriced and not customer focused.

Yelp
awesome awesome experience here. super clean and newish rooms with designer styled furniture and layout. hip, chic, whatever you want to describe it, this unique boutique like hotel yet with the services of a big chain is such a welcome experience that we booked this one after booking a night at the one in Milan.

Yelp
The stay here started great. Nice rooms, comfy bed, but unless you look like you a "socialite" good luck getting dinner or anything else in this hotel. I spent way too much at this hotel to be treated like sh*t. I waited 3 hours couldn't order off the dinner menus despite being there for 3 hours. Then didn't even get my bar food (despite spending a hefty amount of money and time here) till I hit the elevator. AVOID AVOID!!!!!

Yelp
Room Mate Aitana has a great location, just about a 12 minute walk from the Amsterdam Central Station. There is a train that goes straight from the Schipol airport to the central station so getting to this hotel from the airport is quick and easy. The hotel overlooks the harbor and the area is generally very quiet. We arrived early and a few hours before the 3 pm check in. But thanks to Kilia (Robustella), our check in process was absolutely delightful. Not only Kilia made sure that the staff worked on getting our room ready as soon as the previous guests checked out, but she also took the time to tell us about Amsterdam, the structure of the city and suggested great places for us to get breakfast and walk around until our room was ready. I have to say, the place she suggested is where we got breakfast every day that we were in Amsterdam. She helped us with storing our luggage as well. When we got back after a few hours, our room was ready. I read in the hotel's magazine that the idea behind Room Mate hotel lines is designing rooms that make guests feel like they are staying at a friend's house and I got it. The room was not huge but was a decent size, the bathroom had the minimum necessities and was very clean. The bed was large and very comfortable. There was a minibar in the room and I think the prices of the items were reasonable. The room had a nice view of the city yet it was very quiet. For us the location of the hotel was perfect, because it was very close to the metro and bus stations yet far enough from all the hustle and bustle of the city. One suggestion I have is for the hotel to emphasize not to disturb guests when the "Do Not Disturb" sign is at the door. Someone knocked on our door to check the minibar after the previous guests had left. In our case we had arrived after an overnight flight and were hoping to catch up on some sleep.

Yelp
It is conveniently located just a short walk from Amsterdam Centraal train station. Caution: Take a cab. Since the streets were cobble stone, walking to the hotel while dragging luggage, after a lengthly train ride from Paris, was literally a jarring experience. The futuristic hotel projects into the water and offers breathtaking views of the city. The rooms are spacious, clean, crisp, and bright with accents of the national color, orange, everywhere. The comfortable large beds cradle you to a restful sleep. The staff is multilingual, attentive and efficient. The restaurant in the lower level serves a wonderful European breakfast buffet in the morning. Overall a striking modern contrast within the old city center.

Yelp
Quick, friendly check in and information. All the staaff spoke english very well. Allowed us a very early check in at 11am. The accomodations were clean and very modern. We found the location to be wonderful as it was only a 10 minute walk from the train station and slightly away from the bustle of the main city center.

Yelp
Comfortable bed, good-size room (especially for Amsterdam), nice location, good staff, and tasty food. It's not in the center of things, so it's a 10 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Other than that, this is an ideal spot for a trip to Amsterdam.

Yelp
FANTASTIC hotel if you have champagne tastes on a beer budget. I was traveling with my teenaged kids and wanted a nice hotel but didn't want to spend a fortune, so I really lucked out with this place! The hotel is clean, very modern, looks brand new and feels like it should cost more. The room was quite spacious and very pleasant, and the three of us were very comfortable sharing it. The bathroom and shower was roomy and again very modern and clean - absolutely no complaints at all. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. I didn't dine in the hotel restaurant or bar, so I can't speak to that, but there is a very charming cafe right across the street from the hotel. The location is great, not right by the canals, but only a 15-20 minute walk away. It was very easy for us to get to the museum district (or everywhere really, for that matter) by tram and Centraal Station is less than a 10 minute walk away. Highly recommend this hotel if you're visiting Amsterdam.

Yelp
excellent place to stay. bed and pillows are good. very comfy. staffs are very nice and friendly. the reason for 4 stars because of the slow wifi. if you want to non stop streaming from internet, you will have to stand next to the door. LOL.
