We stayed at Room Mate Gerard for two nights in June and were left feeling a bit underwhelmed. While the hotel has style and potential, several service issues meant we wouldn’t return.||TLDR:||Rooms are spacious and comfy enough, but poor service, no apology for delays, and a faulty shower that flooded the bathroom soured the stay. Feels more like a 3-star experience dressed up as a 4-star hotel.||The Good:||- Modern decor and a stylish rooftop terrace with an honesty bar.|- Great location – clean, calm area with plenty of food options nearby. Highly recommend Novela around the corner for brunch.|- Comfortable twin beds, decent aircon, and we slept well.||The Not-So-Good:||- We arrived early (as expected) and were told rooms might be ready by 1:30–1:50pm. They weren’t. No update was given, despite being told we’d be informed.|- One room was ready by 2:30, but the other (ours) wasn’t available until 3:30 – half an hour after official check-in – with no apology or explanation.|- The shower in room 405 flooded the bathroom floor each use, making it unusable without towels everywhere. It started to smell, and my partner slipped and fell (luckily unhurt). Reported it, but it wasn’t fixed.|- TV options in English were limited and no ability to cast or stream from our phones.|- No spare pillows provided.||There’s building work next door, so expect some noise during the day. Also worth noting no one asked how our stay was at check-out, which summed up the general lack of service. A basic “sorry” or small gesture like city tax waived or a drink on the house would’ve gone a long way.||Final thoughts:||Room Mate Gerard looks the part, but it didn’t deliver where it mattered. We wouldn’t stay again and cannot recommend. Ultimately this hotel is style over substance.
