I stayed at Room Mate Mario for a few days and I really loved it! The location is amazing, very central and just a short walk to everything. It is right next to the Opera metro station and close to the Royal Palace and to other tourist attractions. The room was small but really cozy and stylish. We had a little balcony and the view was stunning. Staff were super nice and helpful. I also loved how clean everything was and I really enjoyed the variety of the breakfast. I would definitely stay again next time I’m in Madrid!

Review of Room Mate Mario Hotel, Madrid My friend and I stayed at the Room Mate Mario Hotel last April for four nights. On arrival, the hotel gives a great first impression: it’s stylishly decorated with a boutique feel, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The place is also very clean, which we appreciated throughout our stay. However, the rooms are quite small. Ours overlooked the inner yard and felt quite claustrophobic due to the limited natural light. The sink was oddly placed in the main room, and there was only one chair, which made it less comfortable for two people. We raised our concerns and, to the hotel’s credit, they moved us to a larger room overlooking the street for our final night, which was a noticeable improvement. The rooms are on the pricey side, and it’s clear that what you’re really paying for is the location. The hotel is very centrally located… we could walk everywhere, which made exploring Madrid really easy and enjoyable. Breakfast was a highlight, with a generous spread of fresh pastries, fruit, and other options included for free. Overall, I would recommend Room Mate Mario if you’re looking for a clean, centrally located hotel and don’t plan to spend much time in your room. It’s perfect for city explorers who value style and convenience over space.

I have stayed for 4 days, location is great, rooms are very comfortable and nice but what is stuck with me is the way that the staff is so helpful and very friendly. I forgot my phone in the room on my travel day, when I called them to ask about my phone they went out of their way to search for it, find it, even package it to ship to my home address in another country. I was very stressed and called them multiple times to check on my phone and every time they were so kind to always trying to be helpful. I was so so lucky to be able to get help from the kindest people in Madrid in such a stressful situation.

The hotel is well located near Metro station Opera, from where all hot spots of Madrid can be easily reached by public transport and even by walking ! All delightful pedestrian and shopping areas around, markets, local tapas bars, main attractions & main sights of the city. The room was big enough, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was nothing extraordinary, though offering sufficient variety to start everyday fully motivated and with best mood ! The staff was very friendly and concerned in case support and advice was needed. Highly recommended and absolutely worth coming again - I felt very welcome !

Location is good - very close to Opera metro and less crowded if you prefer a quieter area. The room is good but the drainage of the shower can be improved, the outflow seems to the slow and might cause overflow of you stay in shower for too long. Service is good and friendly. There is a gym nearby (at a fee) and supermarket is just few steps away.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel Mario and it was amazing! Very clean place with great facilities. The breakfast was really good. The staff was incredible, very helpful and friendly! The location was excellent and the area around completely safe! We'll definitely go back.

Great stay in a perfect location! The hotel is super well located — just a 5-minute walk to Gran Vía and right next to the Ópera metro station, which made getting around the city very easy. The room is on the smaller side, but we had large suitcases and still managed just fine. The bed was very comfortable, and the towels were high quality, which we really appreciated. The shower was excellent, and the sink area had enough space for our toiletries. The windows have blackout shades, which made it really comfortable to sleep. One big plus: there’s a supermarket right next door, which was super convenient for picking up snacks and drinks. Everything was great — highly recommend!

Just returned from our trip to Madrid. LOcation of this hotel is amazing. We were able to walk to so many places without having to uber or train. Staff was very friendly and place was clean. As others mentioned, the room lay out is not for everyone. The bathroom is separated (sink in the main room) and the toilet is separated by a frosted glass door, which makes it a little awkward to use when you are with someone else who might be in bed.

Yelp
This hotel is in a great location and is reasonably priced. The rooms are fairly basic, but adequate and clean. It was somewhat noisy, but that doesn't bother me. We had some confusion where they double-charged us for breakfast. Later they contacted us to refund the overcharge - I'm not sure whether they did that because I posted a negative review online, or if they discovered the error on their own.

Yelp
I came to Madrid for 10 days and stayed at Room Mate Mario.... I loved it! Very friendly and helpful staff. Since the very beginning of my booking to the last minute I was there. Super clean bedrooms and a nice breakfast area! Food is good and breakfast is from 7-12 . Beds are very comfortable, room has everything you need. If you ever come to Madrid consider staying at Room Mate Mario! You'll enjoy it that's for sure and super close to many beautiful plazas! Thx Room Mate Mario everyone keep up the good work!

Yelp
I really lucked out with booking this place. First of all just really excellent location - so close to everything you want to explore while sightseeing in Madrid. The tea and cookies and drinks at reception were so cute and when checking in, Sylvia at reception was awesome! Also the check in was easy and we also got a walkable wifi modem that we just carried around while walking the city - it's free but costs $70 if you loose it. Silvia also suggested a great walking itinerary for us as well as local restaurants. We had the executive room with twin beds (€90 per night) and i loved the bright splashes of colour + decor in the room. The beds were super comfy and while the loo was spaced super flush against the shower tub, it was managable. The shower pressure was great and there was no build up of water in the tub. I was worried about street noise as our room overlooked the street and I am a light sleeper but it was not an issue at all. When checking out, we got Daniel and he was also just super awesome and helped us in getting some postcards sent off to folks back home. Overall great stay, i would totally come back and recommend! Yelp
Loved our 3 night stay at Room Mate Mario! The combination of location, staff, and comfort make for a great hotel in center of Madrid. The hotel is located a stones throw from Opera Metro and a quick half block walk to the Palace. Yet, the hotel is on a small street making noise not an issue, which can be true for many other areas in central Madrid. Lobby and rooms are modern, comfortable, and clean. The staff is welcoming and eager to help with any questions/requests. We greatly appreciated them bringing us ice at nights and the toiletries in the bathroom (everything from conditioner to body scrub to toothbrush set if you forgot one). Only issue we had was that the hotel is set-up only for A/C or heat. This made it hard during our early November trip because we could not control the temperature in our room to our comfort level. It was boiling hot the one night (since it did dip down in colder temps in Madrid), so we had to open all the windows. Overall, great hotel and would stay here again. The price can't be beat for the location, staff, and comfort provided - good combination.

Yelp
Fantastic, great value, reasonably priced boutique hotel in one of the best locations in Madrid. Quiet and peaceful, minutes from the madness of downtown. Opera Metro station is 1 block away. Easy train to and from airport via Principo Pio station. Staff is superb, rooms are modern and clean. This will be my goto place in Madrid.

Yelp
I found this hotel to be precisely perfect for a few nights rest in Madrid. By no means "fancy" -- however what Mario lacks in luxury he makes up for in practicality! Everything was in its place. Great bath products, reliable (free) wifi, friendly reception staff, excellent location (near Opera Metro), well stocked breakfast, comfortable and clean rooms and beds. Tucked up a side street but very close to the hustle and bustle, sites, etc. Easy to walk from here. Only drawback is the noise (as others have mentioned) - I had a room tucked way back into a corner so I rarely had people passing by my door but if you are planning a stay and have the option requesting a room on the end would be smart. (if you need the quiet -- if you don't -- then I guess this won't matter much!) Everything was lovely for our stay. We had a rather large group (25) staying at the hotel and the resounding feedback was "Go Mario!"

Yelp
Fan of the Mario! And just because the name brings back loving memories of the good ol' 90s Nintendo times.... Good service, good rooms, it's clean, it's decent, the breakfast is nice, and GREAT location. We stayed here for four nights and every night, I got a nice feeling when entering my hotel room. I always keep that as a bearing for whether or not I like hotels. A few notes / suggestions for improvement: - the noise level; you literally hear trolleys and what people are saying when walking by your room. I stayed both in rooms no. 115 and 215 and could hear everyone passing by. Tip from Flip: ask if it's possible to have a room that's not really in the area where lots of people need to pass (e.g. as far away from the breakfast are / lift) - the beds are short for Nordic people, I'm not thát tall but I had to go in diagonal mode not to have my feet dangling in the air. For that last reason, I wouldn't return here if I were to visit Madrid with the man. As he's over 2 metres, the bed is just too small. If I were here again work related or just myself - would definitely consider staying here again!

Yelp
I'm on the fence about this place to be perfectly honest! On initial impressions it was really cool, but the cool wore off preeettty quickly. Good points: - Cool little touches like funky toiletries and nice arty decor - Location - very central, gorgeous old area, walkable to all the main sights. - Sushi Club room service - cool concept of sushi delivered to your room instead of normal room service - Breakfast - cute room and nice spread Bad points: - You have to pay for the water in the rooms. This is such a bug bear of mine! You shouldn't have to pay for bottled water when you're paying good money for hotel rooms! - My bed was awful. It was two singles put together which was kind of uncomfortable and actually to be honest they felt like camp beds. The springs actually stuck into me - it was kind of horrible in a comical way! - No bedside lights, so the lights either had to be all the way on or all the way off. One of many small but annoying things I found about the place. If you get good value, I'd say go for it. If it's not especially cheap as chips, maybe give it a miss!

Yelp
There's budget hotels (groan) then there's budget hotels (ohhahhhh!) - Room Mate Mario definitely falls into the second category. Sleek, clean, modern and it does most things a hotel should do pretty damn well. I stayed here for 4 nights, 3 of those were for work so I had one night in a Junior Suite (around €80) and the rest of the time in a standard room (around €50). The Junior Suite is a large room with lots of space, has a nice headboard and a bath. It was also a proper king size bed rather than two singles next to each other like the standard room was. While I loved being able to have a bath, I'm not sure it was worth that extra money. The Junior Suite I was in (room 101) was right next to the main hotel stairs and lift which meant there was loads of noise too - I can normally sleep through anything but it disturbed me a few times throughout the night which was annoying. The next day I moved to room 226 which was hidden down lots of curving hallways but was a lot quieter. Sure, it was small but actually that didn't bother me at all, and I was pretty happy with it. Not much of a view but I didn't spend much time in the room. The shower wasn't consistent with the temperature which is probably the thing that annoyed me the most - burning hot to freezing cold and back again is not my ideal way to wake up. The buffet breakfast was really impressive and served up until midday too - win! All the staff I chatted to were beyond helpful, super kind and very polite. It's in a great location and is close to nice restaurants and bars, and there's a Burger King on the corner if you're really desperate.

Yelp
Room Mate Mario is a must stay in Madrid!! The location, service, rooms and PRICE are the best! Very easy to get to from the airport. It is located a few steps away from the Opera Metro station (on the street where Burger King is on the corner) Walking distance from the Cathedral, the palace, Royal opera house, San Gines Chocolateria, and grand via to name a few. The best part is that right next door is a grocery store called "%" so if you need water, food, or anything else you dont have to walk far. This store closes at 930pm. The staff is extremely friendly, and speak English. If you need directions , recommendations, or have any questions they are very willing to help you with it. There is also a computer in the lobby to use free of charge to guests. I stayed in a double room, and was surprised at how large it was for a European room. The room was well decorated, and clean. There is a closet with a safe and mini fridge. The mini fridge is already stocked, so it's hard to put any personal food in there. They have A/C which was a must for the hot July weather. It takes a minute to load, after putting the power key card in. They have a buffet breakfast for €8.50 I think. The breakfast room is located on level 1. But there are also a lot of great restaurants close by.

Yelp
I stayed here while in Madrid for a work trip recently and while it was a nice enough hotel there were quite a few issues I had which took the shine off it slightly for me. I found the room I had was very noisy due to being on a main corridor so constantly heard banging and noises outside. I also had a shower head that wouldn't stay still and meant I had to hold it in the shower - and the design of the bathroom with no shower door meant water sprayed all over the floor no matter what I did. The phone didn't work in my room meaning I couldn't easily call reception about my issues and when I went to order room service found that they stop serving between 4-7 (surely the time you need room service is at least through normal day time hours - Spain or not) I'm giving this hotel 3 though because I found the surroundings nice and the staff friendly - but I've stayed in much better hotels that I've given a 4 to. Very close to Opera Metro though which was handy.

Yelp
This could easily get a 5th star, but they aren't quite there. The rooms are clean and spacious and have nice furniture. They are much quieter than I expected as well. The bathrooms are not bad. They have a bit of room, but surprisingly little counter space. In addition, one big minus is they don't top up the amenities each day. The most important is tissue. They don't supply a full box like most hotels. Instead you get a little travel packet with 8 sheets. Once those are gone you have to use toilet paper, or go to the shop next door and buy your own. The location is pretty good. It's a short walk to Gran Via and Plaza Mayor. The staff is very nice and helpful when you need them. I'd definitely stay again, I just wish they'd give that bit more effort and get the 5th star.
