Room2Board Hostel and Surf School

My partner and I have been staying at Room2Board annually for at least ten years. We are 65 and 71 now, usually the oldest people there, but we still enjoy it. It's only two hours from San Jose. The private rooms on the third floor have views of the ocean and are just far enough away from the late night music. Rooms are always clean and the staff of young people are friendly. The swimming pool is very nice, especially in the afternoon when it's hot. It's also nice to have the option of meals downstairs, and a bar if you want an evening drink without walking into town. Right next door is one of our favorite restaurants, The Point - great seafood on the beach. Brian, the owner, is a friendly and helpful ex-pat.

Another great stay at Room2Board. Brian and his stuff are simply amazing, friendly and very helpful. The bar is very nice, food and drinks are reasonably priced. Perfect location for surfing, walks to El Miro and to the center of the town. Will definitely come back.

Everything here was amazing. All the small details were exactly as one would want them to be. Favourite part: Surf instructor Ron! Such a genuine and talented teacher!! Great guy with a big smile and good humour.||The general service of people here was so good. Such a lively mood on everyone and smiles around every corner. Good for people who wish to surf, relax, party and whatever you want.||The rooms were quality. I stayed in a private, which had great AC, bathroom and was so clean. The cleanliness around the hostel in general is superb.||I recommend anyone who goes to Jaco to go here.||P.S they have nice toilet paper🙏🙏🙏

This is the best hostel in town. As a solo traveller in my early 50's, I wasn't sure if a hostel was the right fit. To my surprise, there were many other people there in similar situations. I stayed for almost 6 weeks. The hostel is exceptionally clean. The housekeeping and maintenance staff are amazing. There is a great swimming pool, bar and a small restaurant on site serving breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The bar and reception staff are so much fun. The location is perfect. The beach is one minute walk up the laneway. The main street is 3-4 minute walk where you will find coffee shops, local sodas, groceries, pharmacies, shops and car rental. Everything you need is within walking distance. The hostel has many types of accommodations to serve a group of younger people, single women sharing and couples who prefer privacy. They hold great theme nights, but do not worry, the music is off by 11:00pm. They support an amazing volunteer program hosting young people from all over the world. I had so many amazing roommates while staying there. What a great experience. They have a great tour desk and surfing team to help you with your lessons. Brian (the owner) is very sincere. Always introducing himself to new guests and making sure that every guest's stay is perfect. I have told everyone I know to add this place to their bucket list. Yes, I ABSOLUTELY will return next year, and 100% recommend this accommodation. Room2Board is fantastic.

Wanted to stay here for the price, location, and surf lessons, and wasn't disappointed. Beds were alright but the rooms were cleaned everyday, the staff was awesome and always helpful and Caesar my surf instructor, I can't say enough good things about him. I did the 5 day private lessons and within the first day your popping up and riding waves, buy the 5th day your going out to the line (Still got my ass handed to me but my own fault not his lol) It was the right amount of instructing and would highly recommend him if you had never surfed before (This was my first time surfing)

Fantastic stay with the Room2Board Hostel and Surf School. The rooms and facilities were always clean and well maintained. The kitchen and social area was open early until late which helped a lot for planning meals while traveling. The staff was amazing and the surf instructing class was incredibly helpful. (It helped that the beach is a minute away through the backyard!) Plan to stay here and take a surf class with Cesar!

A combination hostel and hotel was a brilliant idea. I had never paid much attention to Room to Board, even though I spend 2 months a year in the town of Jaco. I was forced to find a new place to stay this year and found a gem. I give all of these amenities 5 stars.||Clean, modern private room with bath and air conditioning. I heard no complaints from those who stayed in the hostel rooms.|Great pool area.|Bar and restaurant that also serves the public.|Observation deck with hammocks and shaded areas.|Fully stocked community kitchen. (not all guests remember to do their dishes)|Friendly, helpful staff of volunteers who earn their room and board.|Surf instructors for those who want lessons. Really fun guys.|Dedicated cleaning staff who not only keep the rooms spotless but the entire property as well. The general maintenance guy never slowed down.|Special events and parties at the bar.|Secure parking.|Great location. 100 yards from the beach.|Quiet hours were rarely disobeyed.|During my 6 week stay I made friends with people from all over the world.||Hopefully I haven't missed anything. I highly recommend Room to Board.

We had an absolute blast! Best Experience ever! Not only were the accommodations so well kept and spotless, the food and drinks were some of the best we had the entire trip! The atmosphere was incredible! The entire staff made you feel like family! Made some great new friends while there! Loved every minute and can not wait to go back! Without a doubt this will always be where I stay!!!!
