I would avoid it. We ordered with four people Roti Chicken Filet and Lamb. People who only ate the Chicken filet were fine. The rest of us who had the Lamb as well got food poisoning. Like 10 hours after dinner, we started to get symptoms and have been sick for a week. Such a shame :(

Google
Delicious Surinames Cuisine! We ordered Lamb Roti (€18) and Roti Roll with Chicken Beans and Potatoes (€10). Both were delicious, succulent meat, spicy lamb roti sauce, flavourful potatoes and good (with still a bite) beans. The food was enough, we even had leftover for the next day :-) We weren't very familiar with the different dishes so we asked the cashier to order the two most popular ones. You pay first and then you wait in a queue (I think it was around 25min) to get your food. What I found very thoughtful was the addition of a sink and hand washing station in the room, giving you the opportunity to eat with your hands without getting sick. So definitely a place to return :-)

Very disappointing, we used to visit when coming to Amsterdam for the good food but I went today and ordered and as I went to sit down I was told we can’t eat in as she needs to clean up, I mean we was there 45mins before closing time and was told we can’t eat inside because they want to clean up and that’s not our problem as customers. Very disappointed and I hope others see this review and decide to go elsewhere.

We were at a roti shop at noon, we paid extra but there was an argument about whether to add potatoes or not, it's strange that I paid 34 euros for two rotis and 4 empty pitas. And even if there was a mistake, she didn't understand me. What's the problem with adding a spoonful of potatoes to each roti. She won't go bankrupt, but she's leaving a satisfied customer. I won't go there again. Was it worth her arguing with me? Until another customer paid a euro for a spoonful of potatoes, she wouldn't agree to add them.

Google
The potato and green bean roti is maybe the best thing I've eaten in my life, and I have eaten loads of things. Roopram Roti is the one place me and my s/o have to go to whenever we're in Amsterdam. It's crazy good. Also, dirt cheap.

Google
Very delicious vegetarian roti! Opening hours and speed of service could use improvement - 2:00 PM opening time too late for lunch having to line up twice (first to pay and then with receipt to place the order for the food) is too time consuming.

Google
Usually always a line out the door and I understand why! Very delicious offerings, and the spicy sauce that comes with it is proper spicy. I recommend to get your food to go and bring it to Oosterpark which is right next door!

Best roti I have ever eaten. It tastes like heaven

Yelp
We got the lamb roti, the chicken roti, duck platter and lamb platter. Everything was very good and delicious. After you place your order, you need to line up again to get your food - you basically hand them your ticket and they'll just scoop the food onto a plate for you. It's all premade and ready, so it was really fast. The platter and the roti rolls are the same meat/sauce (they all come from the same container), just delivered differently. My favorite was definitely the lamb roti roll though, it was my preferred way to consume the lamb curry :) I'd recommend everything except maybe the duck, since that had too many bones in it. It had the best sauce though, so just prepare yourself for not a lot of meat if you decide to try it.

Yelp
Hole in the wall place in Amsterdam East, I wandered in here due to the ever present line out the door. When people are willing to line up, there must be tasty food! What resulted was a delicious roti wrap filled with lamb, potatoes and green beans. The lamb was cooked perfectly and with the peper sauce made every bite filling and tasty. Operations are quite slow though, as there is one person taking orders and another person making the food. They only make your order when you show up at the window. Still, everything is precooked so not too bad.

Yelp
I love curry and thIs place did not disappoint. For under 9 euros I got a chicken, potato and green bean Roti. It was not wrapped so I ate it open faced. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend if you love Caribbean food and yellow curry.

Yelp
Well, well. It was never open when we pass by. But the first time we found it open the waiting lines were all the way outside the restaurant. Two lines, one for orders after which you wait in the other line to pick up your food. The insider was nothing like a restaurant, only hard table chairs, two people eating out of plastic boxes. There are a few more sitting down while they wait, but most people are standing, like a waiting room in the city hall or hospital. Is it that good that people wait half an hour to get a fast food like plastic box? We are cynical at first. But it really is good! My suggestion for them would be to get more employees serve the food. Or to get a waiting system that you get a number instead of standing for half an hour.

Yelp
It really doesn't get any better than this! Best Roti wrap ever! Although "roti" is literally a West Indian type of flat, mushy, delicious doughy bread with lots of thin layers, around here it's become synonymous with a dish you consume the roti with. Traditional roti, the dish, is essentially a flavorful curry stew with yardlong beans, potatoes and chicken or lamb with roti, the bread, on the side. The meat may or may not contain bones so it's basically, and I know how lazy I sound, a chore to eat i.e. you have to sit down, take your time and use utensils. BUT at this wonderful place, where there's nearly always a long line of hungry people, they have ROTI WRAP! Seriously, this dish was made for me! Superb roti quality bread, boneless chicken or lamb, if you want it spicy they'll add fresh yellow habanero paste and all of that wrapped in the roti (the bread). It is big, thick, juicy, if you want, spicy and absolutely delicious! You are a fool not to go to this place if you're in Amsterdam. Many people love, absolutely love, the lamb but I went for the chicken. Tip: if you're going to pick up your dinner here, try to beat Dutch dinnertime as the line tends to be ridiculous. Yes people, the food's That good. Another Tip: If you really want to get a Caribbean feel with your roti, and if you don't mind soda, go across the street to Albert Heijn and buy some tropical soda called Fernandes. I like the yellow one. It's called "Super Pineapple". I've already addicted three people to it.

Yelp
The Netherlands is the only colonial power to have not learned a damn thing from its colonial enterprise in terms of improving its own cuisine. This means Dutch "cuisine" is not only a misnomer but it is an abomination (if I were religious I'd say against God) but more realistically against my palate. Therefore the best thing to happen to Dutch food is: 1. Surinamese food 2. Indonesian food At Roopram Roti you will find an abundance of delicious fare of the Surinamese variety. The place is basic but has tables and great prices. I think I had the most expensive thing on the menu--12 Euros. If you eat in, get one of the plates. The owner is really helpful and the lamb is super delicious. The food is super delicious, flaky soft roti, hot sambal, crisp green beans, soft flavorful potatoes. I could go on forever. It's an easy ride on the # 9 tram, one stop after the Troppenmuseum. The steady stream of locals of all races can tell you this is the real deal and where to go to eat. I went on my last day in Amsterdam but had I gone earlier, I would have gone everyday until I had the duck, the chicken and the lamb and then started all over again. It does only open at 2pm and is not open on Mondays as I found out the hard way.

Yelp
Ok, I know this place is a cult favorite, but I don't really get it. After being told to come here for 3 years in a row ("You live in Oost and haven't been there?! How dare you?!") I finally came here for takeaway on a Wednesday night, almost intimidated by the shower of praise for the joint. Honestly, the food was OK. I had the chicken roti, and while it was certainly enough food, I felt that the 8 Euro price tag was a little steep for what was essentially a piece of chicken in sauce, flatbread and some potatoes served out of a place with fluorescent lights and plastic plates. I'm not an elitist about my food by any means but if it's low-fi, I expect low-fi prices as well. I don't eat a ton of roti so maybe it is the best in the city, but I don't think I will be returning.

Yelp
Best roti I've had in Amsterdam, but I got tired of it very quickly. It's really good, just not something I can have constantly. Which is a shame because I miss eating good Caribbean food. Every time I have them, I eat the vegetarian roti rolls. Roti in Brooklyn is maybe 2 or 3 times the size of these, but these are still filling and yummy. If you want something for on the go, these are great. I can't complain because the man at the counter is always friendly to me and I've never had an issue with the food. I'd definitely recommend this place to someone not from here and/or not caribbean. It's a good representation.

Yelp
This is good basic meat-and-potatoes good at a good price. It's not fancy and there aren't a million options, but if you want filling food fast, then I recommend this place for take-out, since the restaurant itself lacks coziness.

Yelp
I've frequented this location for some time, and ever since being introduced to Surinamese roti I've loved it every time I get it! I always get the roti rol kip (chicken, potatoes, green beans, curry flavor all in a burrito-like wrap), and there is something about the fluffiness of the wraps that is to die for. The ingredients are incredible as well, and it is a unique mix of flavors and foods to find all wrapped up in one. I think of it as a Surinamese burrito :) Prices are cheap, food is amazing as evidenced by the line out the door at dinner time. Highly recommend.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for roti kip, you owe it to yourself to go to Roopram Roti, a household name within the Surinamese community in The Netherlands. Mr J. Roopram started this small chain of restaurants/takeaways in Rotterdam and now has branches in The Hague and two in Amsterdam. The one in the eastern part of the city is the largest and definitely my favourite. It's always very much alive - expect to queue even at unexpected times - and you have a panoramic view of the kitchen scene. Cooks making their famous roti, Indian flat bread, and working in perfect harmony with the 'lords of the chickens' to guarantee the fastest service possible. Not that waiting is dreadful. Watch whole families enjoying their food, listen to Bollywood tunes, soak up the scent of spices. Before you know it, your roti kip is ready to be attacked by you: the flattest and tastiest bread in town and mildly masala spiced tender chicken parts, potatoes and asparagus beans. Comfort food par excellence.

Yelp
If I could give negative stars I would. This place is complete and total shit. I don't know who the rest of these people are saying that the food is good but I'm very qualified to make this judgement. This place is a filthy disaster with bad food.
google avatar

Nikola C.

Yelp
I would love to say this place is a hidden gem, but that wouldn't really the line of people standing outside every day to get their Roti fix. Simply the best. Little tip: if you want the same quality but none of the waiting time, go to Roopram Roti on the Van Woustraat.
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
This place is hilarious. If you remember the soup nazi from Seinfeld, this is sort of like that for Roti only without the unfriendly mustache guy. I laugh and my stomach cheers every time I get to the place and there is a long line that often stretches out the door. Its not just food, it is a ritual that so many people love. Plus the line moves really fast. I do Roti vegetarian and Im always satisfied. It is dirt cheap and the place is barebones, but they make it with love and I enjoy watching the well-oiled-machine that is the kitchen staff. You can't talk about Roti in Amsterdam without mentioning Roopram. Who cares if the plastic furniture is ugly, look at your awesome plate, you're in Surinamese Valhalla!

Yelp
Great roti, I'm not an expert nor a total fan of roti but given the queuing and the fact that as a neighbor I sometimes smell their well done cooking, I think this is a very neat place to get your roti. And by get, I mean take, eating on the spot is not much recommended as the restaurant is lacking 'gezelligheid'

Heidi M.

Yelp
Usually there is a line. There's a good reason: this is the best roti. Worth the wait.
google avatar

Cory O.

Yelp
Surinaamse; the only answer besides"Indonesische" when friends ask what local cuisines they should try. And when I want them to have the best, I take them to Roopram. Damn, I want it right now!
google avatar

Sue K.

Yelp
Local favorite and it's always a good sign when there is a line to the door all the time. Get the chicken roti with an extra side of hot sauce and bring it over to oosterpark for a spicy picnic.

Yelp
Just like the reviews say -- lines out the door! We ordered three Roti dishes: chicken, lamb, and duck. We got home with two lamb and no duck. Oh well. It was tasty. Wathc out for the hot sauce!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good food. My husband is from the Caribbean and was craving roti so we gave this place a try. The chicken roti with long beans and potatoes were good. We also tried the chicken bara which I liked even better. Huge portions and good prices.
