Food: overall tasted good! Hot and fresh. Not huge portions. Service: Server was friendly. It is a walk up and order establishment. Atmosphere: really loved the patio!! Had enough space and room. Inside is a little tight.

We bought the fried chicken and entrées to go, and it was delicious and very flavorful. The crispy fries, the mac and cheese with a touch of toasted bacon, were delicious, and the salad had just the right dressing. The service is fast and they prepare it instantly. Highly recommended.

Google
Love this place. Had the old fashioned fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Also had the fried pickles and house made root beer. Top notch in all regards. The people and service was great too👍👍

Google
Diners drive inn and dives hits it out of the park again. I will be back multiple times. The fried deviled eggs bomb. The chicken sandwiches bomb. Biscuits with pecan honey butter yum. Cold local beer on tap. Winter seating inside but looking forward to a nice day outside seating. Absolutely worth going to and try everything.

Google
Delicious fried chicken, great and friendly staff, adorable and hilarious atmosphere. If you're visiting Bozeman and are looking for food, look no further than the Roost.

Google
This place is delicious. We had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes and chicken & waffles. We can't wait to come back for more.

Tonight, walking in the door was the best part of the Roost experience. Friendly and smiling at the counter, the restaurant was empty, no one waiting behind us as we pondered and ordered our to-go meal. A decision was made, an all dark meat basket to go, we paid and we’re handed “lucky” number 7. The marathon wait time began, which long wait times aren’t frustrating in and of themselves. What is, is seeing the restaurant fill and empty for over 40 minutes of others who ordered after you (not online) walking out with their steaming chicken. When asked about the status of our order (just for two people) we were told that it was because we ordered all dark meat. I asked if things would have been more timely had we ordered differently. The answer was a resounding yes. Had we ordered not just dark meat it would have been faster. Noted. We quickly drive home to enjoy our long anticipated meal of dark meat. Open it up and it’s two pieces of dark meat in the basket of 4 pieces. The biscuit was good, the fries seem frozen, and the chicken both dark and white meat was ok. Not worth the wait.

Google
The classic fried chicken is stunning. The Mac and cheese, fries, and Carolina gold sauce were delicious. One of my favorite places to eat.

Yelp
Live laugh loving this fried chicken. Seriously hard to find a good chicken place and let me tell you... this is it. 10/10 every time!

Yelp
beautiful place, great food, service is impeccable and genuinely nice. a little expensice but it's good

Yelp
Food is fantastic. Get the 8 piece meal with sides for a group of 4 and it's a really solid deal

Yelp
Restaurant's own Website said open til 8...got there around 7:20 and shut down not a soul in sight. Food might be ok but can't say for sure

Yelp
Not the best chicken I have had and definitely not the best service. The first time I came to Bozeman was 2020 and I came back in 2023 and the town is booming. Over tourism has definitely caused sub par eateries. The chicken I got tasted like it has been sitting there awhile, fries were cold and soda was flat. Not a good combination. The star of the show was the biscuit that came with my meal. Parking was hectic as it is a small lot and limited seating instead as well. Located on a Main Street in Bozeman. When in the area, I probably wouldn't go back. Super chix in town is good. Make the drive to Whitehall and check out two bit saloon for good chicken!

Paula R.

Yelp
First time eating here. Small business but lots of seating. I had the 8 piece fried chicken, it came with 2 sides. I had coleslaw & fries, delicious! For appetizers it was fried pickles, served very hot & everything was fresh. I would highly recommend this place to eat any day!

Yelp
Some questionable service and delayed/cold food put a bit of a stinker on the situation. Portion sizes seemed inconsistent. But there were really bright spots here. The dark meat, mac, and mashed, were all standouts and clearly why this place has a following.

Yelp
Really tasty! I got the sweet heat fried chicken with a side of collard greens and Mac & cheese. The Mac wasn't too flavorful, but the collard greens and chicken were wonderful. The sweet heat is perfectly spicy and the chicken was juicy. Next time I want to try their Nashville hot sandwich! They also have a dog friendly patio which was a huge plus.

Yelp
We hadn't been in Bozeman more than 34 minutes and I thought to myself, I bet Guy Fieri has been to this place. I was right, and noticed he had done a whole episode here. The other spot looks small and better for breakfast, but my wife and I immediately raced over to Roost fried chicken before they closed on a Monday evening. So glad we did, because the chicken here is amazing. There weren't many sides that I love, but that worked out in our favor because, while I don't usually eat mac & cheese, this little bowl of heaven was eaten clean by yours truly, especially with the green onions and bacon mixed in. They even included 1 piece of okra on the platter and I tried that for the first time. Let me tell you, I might've made a mistake, not to have gotten those things fried, rather than the fries, which is kind of too familiar as you might imagine.

Yelp
Casual yummy spot for fried chicken, and we ordered the 8 strips meal with coleslaw and mac n cheese, with a couple biscuits. Chicken pieces were large and juicy inside, light crispy exterior, good flavors. Coleslaw was okay, mac n cheese was good though the green onion threw me off a bit.

Yelp
This place was sooo good. I had the Nashville hot sandwich and a sweet tea and it was so tasty! The chicken was made to perfection. The service was pretty fast and I like the decorations inside and how the menu is on the wall. I would definitely come back to eat here when I visit Bozeman!

Yelp
The service was phenomenal and so friendly and the food is like no other. It is a must try.

Yelp
After a great movie, I was looking for a nice chicken salad. Found The Roost and they weren't far away. They have a nice little parking lot for you to park and quickly get in and out. Be mindful that other businesses share the space. Be sure to park in the correct area. Signage is up for you to obey I was immediately greeted and acknowledged and the cashier let me know they would be right with me. I ordered and collected my letter. Shortly afterwards someone brought my food over to where I was waiting. Plenty of seating inside for small groups. Larger groups may want to order to go! The salad was presented very well. The bacon was generous!!!! And I love bacon. The chicken was crisp and coating tasty. The dressing delicious. The flavors combined made for an amazing lunch! Would definitely be a go to for great meaty salads ( or no meat if you're vegetarian)

Yelp
This review was really more for those who are ordering takeout. While I've had some good experiences here when I'm dining in, my experiences when I'm taking food back not so good. They put the food in Styrofoam packaging and the problem with is that the heat from inside the package has no way to escape, and therefore the resulting steam inside makes the chicken soggy and you lose the expected crispness. The other issue I have with roosters is that the last couple times I've ordered to go is that they never seem to get the order right. For example, I today ordered a two- piece chicken and asked for one breast and one thigh. I got one breast but one leg. Also, I've mentioned before there are no napkins no utensils so if you're staying in hotel, you have to borrow some from the front desk or figure out how you can eat this food with your fingers. My recommendation is eat there and don't take the food back to your hotel or home; or, open up your containers so that the heat can escape a little bit and not steam the food within the package.

Yelp
Whenever we travel somewhere, if there is a DDD location near by, we are sure to check em out. This was the case with Roost Fried Chicken. We ordered a bucket of chicken with sides of fries, coleslaw and a biscuit. We also ordered a few of their sauces. The fries and slaw were just alright. Usually I am a big fan of most french fries however these were just ok. The no questioned star of the show was that fried chicken. Easily some of the best fried chicken that we have ever had! The chicken was crispy. Each piece was juicy including the white meat. I would not be surprised if they brine their chicken. What made it even better was how flavorful that chicken was. The chicken was seasoned perfectly. This was not just fried chicken, it was well seasoned and juicy fried chicken. Tasted like garlic and paprika and maybe some onion. Really some excellent fried chicken. If we have the opportunity to go back, we would skip the sides and just order chicken and their fresh squeezed lemonade. We ordered a couple glasses of that lemonade and it was as good as I have had at any State Fair. Really refreshing. Excellent fried chicken and fresh squeezed lemonade, doesn't get any better than that.

Yelp
Roost fried chicken made me wanna jump on the table and Cock-A-Doodle-Doo! Best den chicken west of the Mississippi! Had to fly into Bozeman before hitting Yellowstone so we dropped in for a bite. The kind lady took our order and handed us metal number for our chow. As we waited on the outdoor patio we soaked up the southern decor and even the Guy Triple D dude decorated pan which made me laugh. This place so good it didn't need that punk in the building. Our meals arrived and we gobbled don't chicken ( drumsticks for FRANK B ) coleslaw and homemade biscuits. And to wash my meal down I slurped the most southern of drink a Dr Pepper! Needless to say we LOVED this joint. Moist fried chicken to start off our trip was satisfying and warranted after our early wake up to fly out. But we need one dining experience wasn't enough so we hit it for a encore on the way back from Yellowstone! Folks if you need that southern home cooking well if you find yourself in Montana make sure you bookmark this a highlight to enjoy! Frank B over and out from Montana!

Yelp
What can I say about Roost? The chicken is some of the best in town. I particularly love their Carolina Bqq sauce you can get with it. I'm also a huge fan of their salads! The service is always quick for how busy it can get and everyone is usually very friendly. Ambiance is fun, it can get a little hot inside during the summer months but all around a great place to grab lunch!
google avatar

Maurita C.

Yelp
Food was good. The chicken is crispy and the sauces are delicious. I really like the slaw. Service took it down a star. I was eating outside and my food came- I asked if I could have a fork- the waitress told me where to find the forks inside. If they are delivering food for outside service- include tableware.

Yelp
Did it meet the hype that DDD inspired? No, was it a solid chicken sandwich, yes. We got some sides to share and the fried deviled eggs are interesting! I am not sure I liked them but there is nothing wrong with them! I think the warm on something my brain says should be cold threw me off! I got the Sweet Heat and it was just that! A perfect blend of sweet and a great kick. We all enjoyed the sandwiches, chicken could be a little more moist, but it was good. The price is a little much and added up quickly when we wanted to get a lemonade which was a lot and we added the fried okra and eggs. Overall if you are wanting a solid fried chicken sand it is good. Really nice patio and perfect weather for it! Food came out quick.

Yelp
I've finally returned to Bozeman, and The Roost was high on my list. After living in Portland for a couple of years, I wondered if maybe I'd think the chicken wasn't as good as I remembered. But I'm here to tell you--this is still the best fried chicken I've had on the west coast. Better than anything in Portland, anything in Bozeman. Perfectly juicy and crispy and tasty chicken. Fries are great, coleslaw is great, and biscuits are PHENOMENAL. Service always quick and friendly, and the back patio has that Southern charm. If you're two women of average size, I recommend ordering the 1/2 bucket and adding an extra biscuit (+ ordering the comeback sauce). It's also a pretty good deal for two people to split. Glad to see that The Roost is as good as ever!
google avatar

Stacey D.

Yelp
Solid fried chicken sandwich and mac & cheese. Fried pickles were sliced and had a perfect pickle-to-breading ratio, but a bit too much seasoning sprinkled on top. Next time, I'd get without the seasoning. Sauce served with pickles had just the right amount of zing. Service was great and building has an eclectic vibe with indoor and outdoor seating.

Marian R.

Yelp
Yum! The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is delicious! Just the right amount of spice without being too hot. Collard greens are tender and good and love the fried okra! We came into Bozeman 2 days in a row and just had to stop both times for lunch.
google avatar

Sandy S.

Yelp
The sweet hot sandwich was perfect - juicy, delicious sauce, cole slaw just right amount. Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely eat here again!
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
First of all I don't understand the hype about this place. The food is good but not great. My order took over 40 minutes (two pieces of chicken, biscuit, and okra). My order was wrong when I got it but I took it anyway. I noticed all the other people waiting were as frustrated as I was by their comments. Hopefully, for this restaurant sake this was just a "bad day."
google avatar

K H.

Yelp
While I wish there were a few "lighter" side options available, you come here for the chicken and that is always excellent. We recently tried the chicken tenders and I'm not sure I'll get anything else ever again. They were perfection! Biscuits are fantastic, too.
google avatar

Lita S.

Yelp
The food here is fabulous! We split the fried chicken salad which was huge! The chicken was really amazing. It was juicy and not dry. And we split a side of fries which came out hot. If you like tart, try the fresh home made lemonade. And the biscuits are yummy too! The staff was super friendly and answered all our questions. They have an indoor and cute outdoor sitting area. Of course the view of the mountains are a plus! I hope to come again!
google avatar

Roya J.

Yelp
The seasoning on the chicken was good, just a little salty. It was lightly coated and over done. The service was friendly and it's a cute spot with indoor and outdoor seating as well as parking .
google avatar

Sean E.

Yelp
Food! Top 2 fried chicken i have ever eaten, hands down! The staff are chill and efficient. The owner is usually around checking to see how things are going. Simple and delicious.
google avatar

Connie B.

Yelp
Long lines so that tells you folks like it. Had the chicken salad on a hot summer day. Just when I thought they lost my order it showed up. Well worth the wait. Seems it was made to order just like all the people in line in front of me. Try it but be patient
google avatar

Zarika S.

Yelp
I love the food here this is my favorite spot for chicken and their mac and cheese don't even get me started i'm obsessed. Definitely way too expensive tho. It's like 3 dollars for ONE chicken leg which is insanely ridiculous. Amazing food but not worth the price.
google avatar

Yelp
Roost was recommended and thought we'd give it a try rather than the various chains located close by. First impression is that the space is small. We visited during the first snow storm of the year and could tell there was a pretty large sized patio but in the winter, space is limited. Parking lot is also very small and shared with another spot across the lot. Upon entering the menu is printed large and in the wall so easy to decide while waiting in line. There is one register and a pretty steady flow of traffic. After we placed our order we grabbed a table and waited about 15 min for our freshly made fritters, popcorn chicken bowl and chicken and waffles. Fritters we're good but the sauce, sweet heat, was recommended as a 5/10 spiciness and I would say was more like an 8! We quickly opted out of using the sauce. Unfortunately they needed "something" so wouldn't get them again. The popper bowl was not a bowl at all but rather just popcorn chicken on top of a pretty sparse plate of fries. We went with Carolina gold sauce and it was a delicious sauce. Overall a solid choice but not a bowl and not a lot of food for $10. Chicken and waffles were a highlight. Both were cooked perfectly and the pecan butter and maple syrup were great finishing touches. It is a pretty good size too and big enough to share with someone if you add a side or a starter. Overall, this spot wasn't a slam dunk but still pretty solid choice. I'd visit again but maybe when weather was nicer to guarantee more seating or just get it to go.
google avatar

Madison T.

Yelp
This has been my favorite spot in Bozeman for awhile now! It's such a cute atmosphere with the best food! The chicken and waffles are to die for and so are the Mac and cheese balls highly recommend
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
I should not have ignored the "Do not enter" sign I had high hopes for this place but everything was bland, bland, and well quite bland. The fried chicken was bland and and just didn't seem to have any kind of flavor. The Mac and cheese could have been from a box, how could they think this is great. I wanted the biscuits to be the winner but they let me down too. I tried to redeem them with the honey pecan butter but it was bland as well. The kids menu chicken nuggets were small and bland too. They serve a comeback sauce that is a rip off of Raising Canes sauce which made me think, just skip this place and go to Raising Canes!
google avatar

Terry J.

Yelp
I never right reviews, but the meal I had was a total disappointment. I ordered the chicken and waffles and when they brought it to me I couldn't believe my eyes. The two pieces of chicken they had on the plate were so tiny. One was a wing that looked like it came off a sparrow. The other I believe was supposed to be a breast and had enough meat for two small bites. This is supposed to be to be a chicken place. I realize it says two pieces, but if that is all you have left, add another piece of two. I will never recommend this place. It was a total waste of money.

Jerry G.

Yelp
It is counter service I understand it's hard get help, The young man taking my order was very helpful, I wanted two thighs and two legs with mashed potatoes as combo he said he couldn't do that, but did it ala carte it was actually cheaper My wife and I have been on a 3,000 mile road trip hands down the best bite we've had the chicken was juicy and crispy some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten and the mashed potatoes awesome. A very clean restaurant has homey feeling. Thanks for the experience Roost.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Found Roost after searching for DDD restaurants in the area. The menu looked so tasty. I was really looking forward to mashed potatoes, greens, okra and chicken. We were there hours before closing, and they were out of all sides but Mac and cheese and fries. By the time we got our food, only fries were left. The chicken was very good, but I was disappointed 1/2 the menu was not available. Ordered all white meat & was given a leg. We had waited a long time, so we ate what they brought. There were about 5 tables, so the slow service was not warranted. I loved this place. It was cute and had the possibility of being an amazing experience. If you are going to have such an amazing establishment, please don't put your employees in such an uncomfortable situation. People were angry and disappointed. Oh, and as we were leaving, the sofa machine was out of two more sodas.

Matt R.

Yelp
Roost chicken has been hit or miss. Sometimes the chicken is dry and the sides and salads are often bland. However, when it's a "hit", the food is good. While I've given Roost the benefit of the doubt for some time, and keep coming back hoping for a "hit" day, I decided to write this review after a frustrating experience. I ordered to-go a Roost salad with fried chicken, waited 30 minutes for the order, and then once getting home discovered there's no chicken. I tried calling the restaurant multiple times to see if I could come back and pick up the missing chicken for my order. Their phone number goes immediately to a recorded message and a full voicemail box. I don't have time to drive back and wait even longer for my order. I hope the restaurant improves in consistency of both food and service. But until they do, you may want to eat elsewhere.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! I wish Honolulu had a Roost Fried Chicken. I love, really love fried chicken - it is my one vice and of course when I saw this place in the top 10 list of places to try in Bozeman, everything else shifted down in priority. I was going to get their snack which comes with 2 pieces and a side + biscuit for $12 but there were other sides and salads I wanted to try too so I talked my 3 friends into sharing a 1/2 bucket so we could try 2 sides, still get 2 pieces of chicken each and added their special salad - we got a whopping serving of the best fried chicken I have ever tasted and the mac n' cheese was phenomenal, And it turned out to be $9 per person ! More food for less $$, what a deal! All the food was so good I was contemplating on ordering a takeout snack pack to eat on my flight home but it was near closing and my friends were in a rush to get back on the road - I am still regretting it today as I reminisce about the fried chicken and wonder when I should return to Bozeman MT again ... sigh

Yelp
The food was ok, nothing special this time around. I have eaten here every once and a while for the past few years. One thing that's clear, is the sliding quality and portions. The chicken sandwich fillet keeps getting smaller. The quality meat is there, just not the portions. The sandwich was more breading than meat. The fries were meh. The lemonade was nothing special. Pretty standard. The chicken wings were quality meat, but the sauce was weak. How can you have a chicken spot and not have a solid Buffalo sauce? I feel at this point The Roost is over hyped. The cherry on top was the lady behind the counter who kept dropping f bombs loudly.
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
This place is awesome but changes their menu more than often. They also have an uninformed staff who do not know how to perform the menu . This place should not be over a party of 4. Be careful what you order because you may be overcharged. If it's a one time visit, I highly recommend. My favorite is the balsamic salad with pulled chicken.

Kevin B.

Yelp
Great chicken, fun little spot with a patio area. Everyone was pleased with their food. Great service.
google avatar

Brad E.

Yelp
Roost has pretty good fried chicken sandwiches. Their hot sandwiches are actually pretty mild. Don't be afraid of the "heat." I didn't love the fried pickles as the batter is a little too sweet. The fried okra is a pretty good choice. Good spot for a quick grab and go lunch.
google avatar

Al K.

Yelp
I only give this place a 4/5 because my waffle was a tad under done...I hate not giving the Roost a 5/5 because it's always been a 5. However, this one time this happened. It's never been like it before, so take this review with a grain of salt. Overall, the chicken is amazing. Some of the best chicken I've had really anywhere. I love the patio area too which is a great place to spend lunch time! Go to the roost!! You'll love it! I personally always get the chicken and waffles.

Yelp
I saw Roost Fried Chicken featured on DDD years ago and I bookmarked this place just in case I was in the Bozeman area someway somehow. Years later it finally paid off! I came here at around 7pm on a Sunday and there was a long line during dinner time so be prepared to wait a bit. The people at the registers actually took a couple of 5-10 minute breaks to let the kitchen catch up on orders. After ordering your food at the counter they give you a number and will bring the food to you. On DDD I saw the Alabama sandwich ($11) featured so that's what I got. Because I wanted to try the fried chicken since that's what they're known for, I also ordered the 2 piece breast + thigh with Nashville hot spice ($12). The pulled pork in the Alabama sandwich was okay. It was a bit dry but the white sauce helped with that. The fried chicken on the other hand was fantastic! Even the breast was tender and soft with crispy skin on the outside. I could totally eat that chicken all day and the spice from the Nashville hot was perfect. For my sides I got the mac n cheese and cole slaw and both were solid too. I liked this place so much I came back again a couple days later and got their Nashville hot chicken sandwich ($11.50) which was also solid. The fried chicken is so good that you cannot go wrong with it in any form. When you're here and in doubt, get the chicken because you will not regret it! Guy Fieri, you did it again.

Anita R.

Yelp
The service was great. The food was delicious. And the atmosphere was inviting and cozy. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Great food, but always a very long wait and usually something wrong. We ordered online to go on Sunday, February 5th. I ordered and paid for extra sauce but they forgot it. We scheduled the order a couple hours early and got a text that it was ready 10 minutes early, only to wait in a long line for it to get cold. The pick up process could be improved, as there were 3-4 other parties waiting in the main line to pick up their to-go orders. They finally split the line after realizing the amount of people there for to-go orders which helped. My food tasted great, but they just need to speed things up and check that everything is in to go orders (ex: sauce, napkins, utensils, etc).
google avatar

Brooke R.

Yelp
Guy Fieri has never led me astray when it comes to restaurants. From the moment we walked in the door, we knew this was going to be great. Everyone there was in such a good mood; both customers and staff. Our tabled ordered a variety of meals and sides, chicken tenders, chicken wings, and the chicken sandwich, with fried okra, cheesy grits, fries, and Mac&cheese. Everything exceeded our expectations- with a special shout out to the Come Back Sauce! You can't beat sitting on that fantastic patio enjoying a cold beer and fried chicken.

Yelp
We loved our lunch at Roost. Service was great. Friendly and professional, helpful staff. We had a classic chicken sandwich and a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Both were incredible. Bun was soft. chicken was perfectly fried, not greasy. Sauce was fantastic. French fries were great. The outdoor seating was lovely with plants and flowers and coverage from the sun. Lots of seating available. Easy parking. Highly recommend! We loved it so much, we went back on our way back to the airport after a week in Yellowstone. Sadly, they opened at 3:00 that day instead of 11:00. Go get your chicken ON. It's DELICIOUS! We'll be back to Bozeman and see you again, Roost! Thank you.

Brent W.

Yelp
This is the best chicken in Bozeman. I can't help but stop here any time I'm in town. My personal favorite is the sweet heat chicken sandwich, but there are other excellent options available. I really like the cozy, small town vibe here. Service is always great, too. The Roost is a must-stop for anyone in the Bozeman area.
