On the Grid : Ostrich Farm

"Ostrich Farm is a casual neighborhood restaurant right off sunset. The menu holds a great list of ever changing small plates and starters such as mussels, flatbreads, pork rillettes, and pork/veal meatballs. For those more hungry the braised beef pot pie or half roast chicken are staple menu items. A long white marble bar hugs the right side of the room and is perfect for one/two people to beat the waitlist on most nights. A warm atmosphere at night and bright sunlit room during the day it's a great spot for both dates and families. They serve breakfast and lunch till 2 and dinner 5 till close but are closed on Mondays. Photos: Lauren Moore" - Ludlow Kingsley

We love this place!!!! Never disappoints. The earlier you get there, the better because the animals are hungry. They've got many different animals to feed. Perfect for all ages. Going to bring my family here when they visit from CO. One day we will go on the monster truck ride- but going to wait till my daughter gets a little older.

Google
We had an amazing time at Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch! It was clean, well-organized, and full of fun. The staff was friendly and everything ran smoothly. The Hole in the Wall Gang had us laughing, the adorable donkeys were a joy to feed, and feeding the lorikeets and stingrays was an unforgettable experience. It was an overwhelmingly positive visit and we loved every minute and highly recommend it!

Google
Such a Fun Experience for the Whole Family! We had a blast! Everything was super clean, and it’s clear the animals are very well cared for. The bird cave was a total highlight! It's so fun to walk through! I especially loved the turtles; they all had hilarious names that made me smile. The donkeys were a riot, the goats were absolutely adorable, and the ostriches were so cool to see up close. The deer and the bunnies were sweet and so cuddly, and feeding the stingrays was an awesome, unique experience! I had never fed ducks from my hand before. That was such a cool and memorable moment. Highly recommend this place for a fun and interactive family outing!

Google
Passed by this place while driving through the interstate and it caught my eye, googled immediately and was sooo excited to see that it was somewhere to visit and feed animals. Did a delivery and came back the same way and stopped by with my boyfriend l, it was 1.5 hours left til closing but we had to go since we do not drive this way at all. Was so worth it. $15 to feed all the animals including sting rays. Most beautiful and fun experience for all ages highly recommended. People here are so friendly and helpful as well. Hope to visit again one day.

Google
Omg! What an amazing, fun time. We stopped to feed the ostrich and got more than we expected. It was super hot, and our daughter started to overheat, but the staff was on top of it. Before we could say anything, she was helping and getting cooling towels. We only meant to stop for 30 minutes or so and ended up staying for almost 3 hours! There are 14 stations to feed the animals. There is a very cute souvenier store. Vending machines if you need them. Clean bathrooms. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Google
A nice activity for the kids, we drove over 45 minutes to get here and ended up spending about 45 minutes while visiting. It's not too large of a space and you can get through feeding and visiting all the different animals rather quickly, we went on a weekday and went early so there were not too many people there. It's mostly outdoors so prepare accordingly.

Google
We have driven by this place so many times and finally decided to check it out and I am so glad we did! Our kids had a blast! I love the organization and help they give for getting around and feeding each animal! 10 out of 10 recommend! All of the animals are so sweet and fun to hang out with!

Google
Small.... but a ton of animals to see! They give you a cup of feed for the animals and coins for the ducks, chickens, and rabbits, and asparagus for the turtles that have names written on their shells! and some nectar for the birds super beautiful and colorful. They also have the option to purchase squid for the sting rays, which you should definitely do. It is soo worth it. The staff was beyond amazing and friendly. Cute little gift shop. A ton of parking.

Yelp
Such a great place to go. Gets better all the time. Excellent family owned business. Animals well cared for. Short drive from Phoenix/ Tucson. Monster jam ride educational and entertaining.

Yelp
Decided to finally make the drive to the Ostrich Ranch a couple months ago early in the morning of course being we're in Az & so glad we did just sorry we waited so long! This is a definite must for all those visiting from out of state & locals alike because first of all it's hands on not just for the kiddos but moms & dads too! Myself well I'm the picture taker & hubby got in there with our little one & they had a blast! You have several options when purchasing your admission tickets because a lot of it includes feeding the animals which must only be done with the food they provide! They even sell you the calamari for you to feed the stingrays which is the very last attraction that's in the same building as the gift shop. The Ostrich Ranch is nicely spaced out & also well organized, it takes about 2 hours to go through the whole ranch without rushing through it because there's just so much to enjoy! There's also a very nice gift shop with a nice selection for all to choose a little souvenir to take home! So on that weekend you're stuck on what to do with the family, take a drive down to the Ostrich Ranch... you'll have a blast!

Yelp
Definitely worth the drive from Phoenix! Awesome petting zoo with many animals. You get to feed donkeys, deers, various kind of birds, ostrich, goats, sheep, chicken, ducks, bunnies and even rays! The place was well organized and the interaction with the animals was fun and memorable. Definitely going back again!

Yelp
Great place to take your family even your date. Friendly environment alot of fun feeding the animals. If you have time I definitely recommend doing the monster truck. Make sure you get tickets advance cause they do sell out. Also warmer also effects times make sure you check there website.

Yelp
Aside from being awesome animal people, this place is also has AWESOME people people!! They always go the extra mile for their guests & deliver the utmost of customer service!! It's totally ADA wheelchair/scooter accessible, even the Monster Truck tour. It's a super fun, interactive place to take kids, no matter how old they are. I highly recommend visiting this place.

Yelp
What a fun stop on the way to Tucson. We had passed this so many times but so glad we took the time to visit. We were there with a very large field trip so that made the experience a little crazy but we still really had fun. Staff explains everything if you're a first timer which was nice. The ostrich were interesting and probably our least favorite to feed but we learned quite a bit. The burros were hysterical!
google avatar

Jess B.

Yelp
Favorite part was feeding the pretty birds. Don't miss going to this ranch! Totally worth it!

Yelp
Came in on a Friday a bit after opening. The weather was a bit cloudy and rainy but that didn't stop the fun. It's $12 to feed most of the animals or $15 to feed all animals. We opted for the $15 ticket and I felt it was well worth it. You're given 2 buckets of food and watch a mini information video before entering the ranch. The animal enclosures are labeled with numbers to tell you where to start. All the animals on the ranch are pretty well trained. My favorites were the deer and the bunnies! But the coolest experience would have to be the lorikeets. Overall, a great experience! The ranch isn't too big which I liked. It's definitely a cute afternoon date for an hour or two.

Yelp
This experience couldn't have been better. We took my little grandson and he loved it. They are organized and clean. More than anything the staff is the absolute NICEST. Mia in particular helped us and went above and beyond. They were welcoming and made us feel like a guest in their home.
google avatar

Scott T.

Yelp
Ok this place is just good! Staff is friendly, animals are great to pet and interact with and overall it's just a fun time! Kelly and I loved our trips here and I'm surprised I've never rated Rooster's before.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
The animals are wonderful!!! The up close interaction with them was AMAZING. They are all a true treasure and so cute and so funny. Loved feeding them especially the gorgeous birds and adorable sting rays. I pray they are treated wonderfully when no one is around.

Yelp
We went here several years ago and then moved to NM two months ago. We loved it so much we decided to go back for our 10th anniversary last weekend and were NOT disappointed. In fact, they had more stuff! We took the Monster Truck ride and thoroughly enjoyed all the silliness as well as the factual information provided. I think we were the only ones on our ride without children; whatever! We are perpetual children. Then we probably doubled the "average" visit time because we are avid photographers as well as animal lovers. Absolutely loved the new tortoise feeding area! They are all rescues, making it even better. Every staff member we interacted with was happy and enthusiastic. We're already looking forward to our next visit when family comes to see us!

Yelp
If I could rate this place a 10/10, I would! My family and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this place! So worth the drive and money! The staff were very friendly from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Given it was our first time, the employee at the entrance provided us helpful information on how to feed the animals and which food needed to be given to the groups of animals. She showed us how to go through each animal exhibit by following the numbers in order displayed on each section. She was super friendly and interacted very well with both of my daughters. At the gift shop, the employee was very helpful, even showing me all of the ornaments they had in stock. She was patient and very polite. Thank you all so much! We absolutely loved the interaction with the animals! When you arrive, you are given 2 blue cups with different foods that are assigned to the different groups of animals. My 2 girls (7 & 1) had a blast feeding and interacting with all of the animals. My 7 year old loved feeding the sheep because they reminded her of her stuffy at home (her Lammy). The animals did not bite. Rather, they used their tongues to pick up the food from your hand. My 1 year old enjoyed walking around and exploring all of the animals. She really took to the tortoises, following them as they moved. My most fave of all were feeding the birds! Feeding the rainbow birds was the most incredible experience! You are given a plastic small cup with a clear fluid containing food for the rainbow birds. You hold the cup in your hand like a fist and the birds land on your arm/hand to open the lid and drink the food! It is soooooo awesome! I even had rainbow birds on my shoulders too! I felt like a kid in a candy store with these birds! It was so exciting! At the end, there is a stingray exhibit where you can touch and feed the stingrays. It is free to pet them, but there is a cost to feed them. My 7 year old thought it was the neatest thing touching the stingrays. She describes them as slimy! lol. Also at the end, they have a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs! I'm a collector of traveling ornaments. Therefore, I had to purchase an ornament showing we were there ($7). They also have monster trucks you can ride for $25 that will take you through another part of the farm. They provide you with a tour guide who provides education on the animals and farm and also shows you more animals behind the scenes. We did not ride the monster trucks this time, but next time, we will give it a try. OH! Littles ones 2 years and younger are free to ride. Prices are very reasonable! Especially for all of the interaction, all of the fun, and excitement you get. We truly enjoyed all of it! This place definitely worth visiting! Please stop by on your travels. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Visited this ranch with friends and their kids. It was my first time seeing an ostrich in person. There were hundreds of them too. I am sure I was more excited than the kids there For the size of the farm and the hundreds of animals there, the place is well kept, clean and hygienic. Animals seem to be taken care of well too. The location of the ranch is beautiful with gorgeous mountains in the back drop. Definitely a great place to take kids to.

Yelp
I've been here several times and always have a fun experience when I'm here. I, a bus driver and bring school groups here for field trips. I love coming here because I think it's so cool getting to feed the animals and be so close to them. I also love how clean the ranch is and how well cared for the animals are. They get plenty of snacks. If you're on your way to or from Tucson I'd totally say stop in here for a couple hours. You'll be glad you did.
google avatar

Jayee T.

Yelp
We took the whole family ranging from 2-68. We all enjoyed ourselves and loved the hands on experience. The kids were so happy to feed each of them and to see everything so close. Of course all the animals were very excited to see us and were kind.

Yelp
This ranch was a really fun place. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't this. The outside has cute decor and a bunch of cacti. The inside has sitting space, bathrooms, a little arcade, and vending machines. The employees were all helpful and nice. The prices are $12 or $15 to include feeding the Stingrays. There's a video that shows you how to feed the various animals, and their are signs as well. The animals were AMAZING!!! I loved getting to feed the donkeys, the deer, the ostriches, the goats, chickens, the bunnies, parakeets, the Lorikeets, and the tortoises Most were all first-time experiences, and it was great!!!! The animals all had such cute, silly personalities. It was so worth every second out in the tortuous heat. If I were local, I would be there LOTS. I've never seen so many ostriches in my life!! You pour food into a container from the outside (whew, they can be a bit intimidating. ) feeding and being so close to the tortoises was out of this world!! I was so happy when the Lorikeets landed all over me, chirping, pulling off the lids to their own pollen containers. It's so cool, so fun!!! You must experience this!!
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
On our way back from Tucson, we decided to stop here with a couple of friends. Wow we are so glad we did. This place is wonderful. To start, the employees are friendly, helpful, and seem like they truly love their jobs. The admission and feed prices for the animals is reasonable and I was left with my heart full after experiencing all of their animal experiences. The lorikeet experience was by far the coolest I've ever experienced anywhere. They have way more to experience other than the main ostrich attraction. Take a look at the pics and see for yourselves. I highly recommend stopping by. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
We usually stop here either to or from our trips to Tucson from the Phoenix area. It's a fun little stop to feed the different animals they have on the premises. The most food they'll give you is in a plastic cup filled with the large green pellets made for large herbivores such as the ostrich, deer and goats and there is enough food to feed every type of critter. My favorite animals to feed are the donkeys since they have such soft fuzzy hair that tickles your palm a little when they eat. They are super gentle too. The goats are fun and my little one enjoyed using the "goat penthouse" the most on our last trip. It's a conveyor belt system rigged up so that you put pellets in a cup and turn the handle to make the cup go sky high so that it eventually gets dumped into a trough for the goats to eat. Note that if your kiddo is new to the lorikeet experience you might want to guard their heads for any landing lorikeets. They might not like their heads being used as temporary perches. Yelp
Great fun inexpensive especially for kids. Loves to be able to pet and feed the ostriches especially. They are not particularly nice animals, but I think these are so used to people. They don't really come for you like I've seen in other places. It's $12 per person and that includes all the food except if you want to feed the stingrays that it's $15.
google avatar

Kathy T.

Yelp
We took our grandkids to the ranch. They loved it and will be talking about all the fun they had for a long time to come!

Rachel M.

Yelp
1st time vist. We has a blast the donkeys are too cute. The ostrich are crazy. Got a kiss from a goat and pecked by a duck. Cindy was great, spent time teaching us about the amazing sting rays. Highly recommend making the trip to the farm.

Tiffany D.

Yelp
We loved this farm! We've been to a few and this was the cleanest and most organized farm we've seen so far. I love that the price includes feeding the animals! We had so much fun feeding every animal there.
google avatar

Isis L.

Yelp
Wow this place has grown from the last time I remembered going as a kid. Tammy & Roger rock and made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend if traveling in between Tucson & Phoenix.
google avatar

Randa S.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this amazing place by accident. Hubby had a meeting so the kids and I tagged along for the ride. We saw their sign and decided we would stop on the way home. So glad we did. We spent 2 hours enjoying the animals and store. Pay the extra couple $'s to feed the stingray. You won't be sorry. We got to feed donkeys, deer, goats, ostrich, chickens, ducks, rabbits, birds, and stingray. My favorite were the lorikeets. They must have liked my shampoo. 3 of them flocked to my head and danced around. It was so much fun. Especially for a spontaneous little stop. Plan your visit here. Great times and very friendly employees. Worth every penny.
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
What a fun place. This has a nostalgic, family feel when you come here. Scott and I have spent hours here without even realizing it! By far my favorite were the goats... they are just the sweetest and I could sit there and hangout with them all day! If you haven't been here definitely make the drive because it's worth it. Very reasonably priced and a great day to spend outdoors.

Ronnie S.

Yelp
Very fun place. Be sure to take the monster truck tour. We were early so they got us on the earlier truck tour.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience!! We took our grandkids (ages 9 & 7) this past Saturday and we all had a blast!! The customer service is incredible! Everyone was helpful and happy!! They also explained thoroughly how to feed the animals!! Every employee was smiling which tells me the culture is positive. Our grandkids liked the bunnies and the goat penthouse the best. My husband and I loved the ostriches. What majestic birds and seeing them up and close was fun. They are aggressive so happy we could put the food in the bins. All the animals were fun to feed. The entire area is clean and it is a obvious the animals are well cared for and loved. We will be back!!
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
I've driven past this place countless times and never knew until recently what I've been missing out on! My husband and I decided to do a fun road trip around on a Sunday and this was our first stop. The price is very reasonable for the experience you get. I love that you are able to feed every single animal with your entrance fee (the stingrays are $3 more). The staff is all very friendly and helpful. My favorite part was getting kissed by a goat. We spent almost 2 hours here and had a blast! I will definitely be stopping here more often!
google avatar

Karl S.

Yelp
A roadside attraction par excellence on the I-10 in the shadow Pichacho Peak. An assortment of 2 and 4 legged animals for your feeding pleasure. Goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, rabbits, ostriches, turtles and manta rays. They all queue up to take the food out of your hand. The ostriches are pretty aggressive. The parrots, sit right on you looking for the nectar. I never saw land tortoises move with such purpose. Fun for all ages. Nice gift shop too!
google avatar

Ron M.

Yelp
Amazing family fun. This is worth every penny. We had a great time andspent less than 60 minutes there. Not sure how PETA isn't protesting but the animals all seemed happy and fed. Our 3 kids all loved it and it seemed like everyone there was. Only concern was the bird area. i felt like I was being attacked and ran out. Did not touch the sting rays either. Great for kids and adults.
google avatar

Chelsea J.

Yelp
This place is a blast for kids and adults alike! My 12 year old is already dying to go back. The staff are so friendly. It's $15 for admission to feed all the animals and the stingrays. The parking lot looked packed but it didn't feel busy at all. The highlight for me is the lorikeet exhibit, so fun! It's a short drive from Tucson and totally worth the trip!

John T.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. So much fun and the staff there are amazing. Educational as well. Definitely do the monster truck tour.
google avatar

Tracy W.

Yelp
Super fun place to visit in AZ south of Maricopa. Tons of large live animals, not limited to thousands of ostriches, deer, ducks, mountain goats, sheep, bunnies, birds and more! You get to feed them all! So cool. My daughter 3Y loved it!

Lisa L.

Yelp
Our family and friends had the best time at the ranch!!! Our grandchildren were thrilled with all the fun adventures and animals to feed. Our favorite was the monster truck tour, our driver was fun, upbeat, informative, and just awesome! Rooster's act was over the top!! we laughed, cried and left with huge smiles on our faces! It was the best day and we can't wait to go back! we also purchased some Ostrich meat to cook up at our friends house and it was so delish!!!
google avatar

Angela G.

Yelp
This place definitely deserves it's 5 star status! First there isn't a lot to do in this area, so that automatically makes it top tier. :) But they don't rest on that. They actually provide a great experience from start to finish. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They lady at the front spoke to my children and made sure they were prepared for their afternoon, not just to me. The facility was clean, and the animals looked well taken care of. There was such a wide variety of animals for a small town farm and you could feed every one of them! Admission was $15 with sting ray food, &12 without. Under $5 is free, but if you want them to have their own food, it's an additional $6. The price was very reasonable. You do not have a time limit. So you can stay all day if you'd like. But there isn't a lot of shade and it gets HOT. So we were there for about an hour. Keep in mind that the green pellets are for animals throughout. We used a lot up in the beginning so we didn't have as much for the last animals. (They give you enough food. We just didn't ration it well.) I think my favorite was feeding the sting rays though that was also a really weird feeling. The lorikeets were pretty cool too. But they could get a little assertive and aggressive. I would prepare little ones because they can fight over the nectar, one did on my daughters arm! But she was ok, just startled. All in all we had a wonderful time. I'd love to go back next time we're in town.

Naomi A.

Yelp
Such a lighthearted and fun place! Absolutely worth the visit and very reasonable cost!!
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
This place was tons of fun! Both for adults and children. We stopped on our way home from Tucson and it was well worth the $12 admission fee. Super friendly ladies at the front greeted us and explained the difference in price options. They gave us each a huge container of food for the birds, goats, bunnies, turtles and ostrich. You can feed every last animal in the farm in the most creative and fun ways! The staff were so friendly and happy to answer questions. The animals are well taken care of and we had a great time!

Jeff B.

Yelp
A lot of fun. Inexpensive place to take the family to see a bunch of different animals. Unique experience. Cute gift shop with again unique gifts. Feathers and eggs. Will recommend and bring family when in town. Everyone was really friendly.
google avatar

Chandra J.

Yelp
So glad that this farm is still open! I went about 15 years ago and loved every minute of it! This time was no exception. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable and made me feel at home. And for $12 that comes with food for the animals a low cost and fun time--I am so in! I really liked that there was no order to visiting the animals, you could take your time and really walk around. They have deer, lorikeets, ostriches, tortises, rabbits, goats, and others! I loved loving on the deer, rabbits, and lorikeets. They are both so beautiful! I was a little wary of the ostriches and stingrays, but the stingrays were surprisingly cool and I got to pet a few of them. I was told that their stingers are removed, so there is no fear in petting them. I would not dare put my hand in front of an ostriches mouth, so I am so glad they have spots where you can drop the food. I definitely recommend coming here anytime you are in the area!
google avatar

Peggy D.

Yelp
I can't believe we have passed by this place so many times without stopping to check it out! Took three of our grandchildren, 10,12, and 13 years old. They loved it! I can't wait to come with my younger grandchildren. Fun, so much fun for all ages! The monster truck tour is a must!
google avatar

Carla J.

Yelp
This farm was fun! My son loved it! We did the monster trunk and it was lots of fun. My favorite was the parakeets and the sting rays. The ostriches are fierce so watch your fingers
google avatar

Corey E.

Yelp
Love this place, the best family value out there. Where else can you make out with a goat, lose a finger to the ostriches and hang out with 100 year old tortoises. They provide the food for all the animals and they know how to do it right. You also have the opportunity to pet and love cow nose rays. What! Are we not in the middle of the desert. Nonetheless, give it a try you won't be disappointed. They have some fun unique item in the gift shop and the staff are super friendly.

Julie S.

Yelp
We had an AMAZING day with 4 and 6 year old boys on 1/29/24. The Monster Truck was a huge amount of fun and a must do. Our guide, Shanda was super fun and informative. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We e even lost a prized 6 year old cowboy hat and the staff went out of their way to help us find it. I highly recommend giving this family run business a try!!!
google avatar

Darlene F.

Yelp
This was recommended by a friend and we probably wouldn't have gone if it weren't for that but wow! This was so much fun. From feeding all the animals the the monster bus ride to ostrich fishing.... I was amazing. We will stop every time we are near Tucson.
google avatar

Olga G.

Yelp
My kids love this farm....thy are always making improvements, many animals, gift shop is great, the only downside is vending machines for food/drink, but there's a few restaurants near by and rest staining next to i10.
google avatar

Erika D.

Yelp
A total must!! We stopped on our way to PHX to visit our son. So much fun for the entire family! Welcoming, clean, shaded sitting area, and gift shop! Welcomed by staff, process explained throughly on how to visit the ranch; station to station setup. We had so much fun interacting with all of the animals!! Beware of the ostriches, they stole the cup out of our hands, took the treats and threw back at us!! Lol!!! The stingray swimming pool area is amazing, clean and so interactive! You CAN reach in and touch the rays! The feeding of the stingrays was absolute a family favorite. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch's name is so understated. And the pics really, really don't do the place justice. It's been more than a few years that I raised ALL sorts of animals and enjoyed every bit of it. But this place is truly an experience. They are well organized and have pattern with the appropriate food for each animal. Follow their instructions on feeding, and you'll (regardless of age) have a great deal of fun. BTW, I don't know which is more fun: the animals or the people with animals. The animals are well behaved. The hands-on experience of feeding them allows you to touch them in their safe zone. The bunnies were incredibly soft and they eat so delicately - unlike goats! Also contrasting were the slow (but quicker than I thought) eating by the large tortoises and the ravenous Ostriches. It is all outside so dress appropriately and bring sunscreen. You may want to get there early - it's a popular place. We had a great time, I can't image that anyone wouldn't.

Saw this place on the side of the road while driving from Phoenix to Tucson and decided to stop by! So many animals to feed with easy instructions on how to feed them. It cost $15 for admission + the food to feed all animals including the stingrays! There was one other price option that was cheaper that included everything minus stingray food. But the stingrays were pretty fun to feed so I'd recommend spending the couple extra dollars. You can walk right up and buy your tickets at the entrance. They stop selling tickets 30 min before closing. Currently they close at 2pm. Their employee Rae was super sweet and friendly.
