Google
Really enjoyed this winery with a small, quaint tasting room. Friendly servers and a nice selection of wines to taste and items for sale. Wines were good.

Google
Found ourselves in Penn Yan, randomly stopped in and it was an amazing decision. Our host with a distinctive Scottish accent was excellent. We lost track and just let him drive. We started out preference and he just started pouring - we enjoyed the ride. The only complaint I have is we weren't offered a menu with a golf pencil. The wine is fantastic, so are the ciders. My wife said it was the best cherry cider she has ever tasted. We both enjoyed the strawberry and was part of our purchase. Don't pass this place up, even consider a special trip.

Google
Location was fantastic. Wines were not on par with other local wine flavors. Original cider was good. At checkout, server charged us for 3 glasses of wine on top of our two tastings when we were told two glasses came free with our two flights. The pours on each $11 glass was 1.5 oz. Our bill was $85+ for two tastings and a bottle of wine. Avoid it like the plague.

Google
Very nice little winery. Accommodating staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Nice view out to the lake. I'm not sophisticated about wines, but their's seemed nice. I really enjoyed the ciders.

Google
My sister and I had a fantastic time wine tasting with the Scottish gentleman (forgot his name, sorry!). He made our experience A+++!!! Highly recommend! Wines, service, conversation was excellent, thank you! 🥂🙂

Google
Loved the port! We spent the night in our RV here as part of our Harvest Host membership and loved the tasting and charcuterie board. We bought a couple of bottles to take with us. Thanks for a beautiful evening on the patio.

Google
Graham was knowledgeable and friendly. Wine was beautifully crafted and tasty! Great view, great people, fantastic customer service, and great wine!

Google
If your looking for a place with excellent tasting wine, a gorgeous view of the lake, a super friendly, casual, fun vibe and exceptional service this is THE PERFECT place!! I grew up right in the finger lakes with wineries within walking distance from me and this place is the best by far! They have delicious varieties of wine that will please any palate! The owner was there and made sure everything was exceptional! While we were enjoying our tastings, he would check in and ask questions to see how we liked them, after giving him feedback he gave us each another sample of a wine he suggested based on each of our unique palates and likings and he was SPOT ON for each of us! He was so friendly! You can tell how much he takes pride in everything not just the wine but also the service and the overall vibe and ambience. Making sure everyone feels comfortable, laid back, and happy. We had such a great time there that we left with bottles and HAD to come back the next day for the outdoor wood burning pizza oven and more wine with our families and kids. When we got there he welcomed us and gave our kids some juice packets! We played with our kids in the huge lawn/hill, sat in the Adirondack chairs enjoying our pizza, wine and the gorgeous view! Life couldn’t get any better than that! That place was the highlight of our family vacation! If you’re in the area and you don’t check it out you’re missing out.

Yelp
Technically I cannot review the wine itself but that was only because our party left after we waited and were ignored for close to 10 minutes. There was literally one other car in the parking lot. We walked in and the man who worked here was being creepy with the only other woman in the place. He was complimenting her appearance in a very uncomfortable way, and somehow their conversation went poorly quickly because he became irate and was speaking to her in an unkind way. Again, the whole time we stood there dumbfounded-- not a "hello, we'll be with you shortly" or even an acknowledgment of any way. We eventually just left without trying anything. Will not be coming here again.

Yelp
We had such a fun visit at Rooster Hill! This is a homey but modern winery along Keuka Lake wine trail. Staff were very friendly, with a wide understanding of their selections and life experience. We loved chatting with you guys! We came in the perfect day to sit outside in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the view! Tons and tons of selections here for any kind of wine drinker. Can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
So contrary to some reviews. I loved the "tall guy" behind the bar. He was so knowledgeable and very friendly. He cracked some jokes and even gave us some free tastings. He was so funny and fun to drink with. He did not lead us astray! I wanted to go right to sweet but he made sure I got the right tasting. This was the most fun wine tasting me and my friends have been to. Great out door seating- and good price on beers.
google avatar

Adele R.

Yelp
Came here as beer drinkers wanting to taste some wine. The sommelier could not have been more patient with us and knowledgeable. Add the stunning views and outstanding customer service. So happy we tried it

Yelp
If you love dry delicious wine, do not stop here. This winery serves pretty sweet wine. If you are on a wine tour and your only goal is to drink as much wine as you can. Maybe this is your place. We were a group of 6 who had reservations. They took us in the back room area. At first we thought it would be cool. We have our own tasting area. The guy getting us our wines was never in the area except to take the order and drop them off. They are also in shot glasses. Very strange. When we went to drink them, someone who likes sweet wines exclaimed "it taste like cough syrup!" Not a good sign. Honestly I would never recommend this winery to anyone. The quality of service was not good. And the quality of wine was horrible. There are so many other places in the area that are willing to serve and chat with you about their wines, not drop and dash. So many other wineries with better wine.

Yelp
Rooster Hill Vineyards was something that wasn't on my list of wines to try out. It looked really cool, so we decided we had to stop and check it out. When we arrived, we had t-shirts on that said Just Married, but underneath it said 20 years ago. As we were celebrating our 20th Anniversary. Everyone looked around and provided us an applaud. They escort you to your seat. They provide you a list of wines to sample, you choose what you want and provide you a glass that you get to keep. We loved the wines, but our favorite was the dry concord. Yes, I said a dry concord. It was amazing.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
The tall man behind the counter was one of the rudest individuals we have ever encountered. After the condescending way he spoke to my wife, our party left. Won't be going back there ever again due to him and advise others to stay away.

Yelp
This was our first stop at the Finger Lakes area and one of the finest winery I have been to. They have a spacious outdoor seating area with a beautiful view of the lake. It's certainly a spot to bring lunch here and relax. Since we went here too early, the folks here were very accommodating by letting us split the tastings. Not only were they knowledgeable about the wines they made here, they also recommended other places around the area with quality wines for tasting as well. Such amazing people! This place definitely should be on everyone's list to visit in the area. Must-try: Bubbly Bantam- I ended up buying this bottle because I thought it would be a great brunch wine! There were citrus notes followed by a peach flavoring which made it so refreshing to drink when it's chilled. It's also crisp and very light, making it enjoyably easy to drink. Yum!

Yelp
What can I say, but INCREDIBLE! This vineyard is everything you can hope for! Amazing wine, incredible service, Outstanding and accommodating! Todd is the most informative, beautiful and knowledgeable bar tender and server! The views of lake kauka are breathtaking and we were able To let my two children (3 and 2 year olds) run free and enjoy the beautiful property! The manager did everything from food to umbrellas to accommodate our family . SEE YOU SOON!

Michael B.

Yelp
Our group didn't appreciate the tall gentleman at Rooster Hill insulting one of my friends. He started out give her an English lesson instead of educating us on their wines. Little did this rude person know was the person he insulted was highly educated with a Masters Degree in Business. This will be our last visit to Rooster Hills.

Stacy S.

Yelp
What a fabulous place! My dear friend chose Rooster Hill to host a rehearsal dinner in anticipation of her son's wedding. The owner, Paul and his family were fabulous and most accommodating. The venue has picturesque lake views, is gorgeous at sunset and has great wines. Thank you Paul and family!

Yelp
Sad..this used to be an amazing winery. Changes have Occurred and inconsistent wines in many of their varietals. Not a great approach in the tasting room anymore either...push you thru, large charges unless you are wine club members and dark and small area. Management not concerned when we called with our thoughts...pretty much blew us off...oh well...Kueka springs is right down the road!
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
Great wine and fun atmosphere. Enjoy the Chardonnay and cab franc. Pizzas on the patio during the summer months is delicious
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly and knowlegable attendant, delicious wine.... and roosters!!!! I had never heard of this winery, and I am so happy we stopped. (Bacically , I made my hisband stop because there was a big rooster sign and I love chickens.) The winery is super cute and cozy. I left with one of each wine I sampled ...plus some more. Next wine tour, we will definetely be stopping back here. They also have a great little shop and I love the shirts I bought there. Didn't have time to try the restaurant this time... but will next time for sure.

Yelp
Rooster Hill was an exceptional winery. Unfortunately, it was our 5th winery of the day, so things get a little foggy at this point. We arrived on a rainy Thursday around 1:30pm, and it was surprisingly busy. There were maybe 10-15 people at the bar doing a tasting. We asked the server if they're typically this busy on a Thursday, and he said no but on the weekends it can become very crowded. Unfortunately, with the rain, we could not sit outside, but the views of the lake were great! All the wines we sampled were good. I purchased a bottle of the Cab Sav, as that was my favorite of what we sampled. The only downside to this facility was the wine crackers. They looked like the pillowy dinner mints and had almost a sweet flavor. Some people may like them, but I did not like them at all. With the crackers being the only downside; and the views, friendly server, and good wines; this place is definitely worth a stop!

Yelp
Very disappointing. We visited over the summer and my group and I had such a great time that we skipped our last reservation to stay and chat with the staff! We left a wonderful review and now I feel compelled to share my most recent experience. This time, we were rushed out and received little to no attention from our server. The environment was unwelcoming, nothing like our last visit!! Not sure we will be returning. The wine was not overly impressive to begin with, I recommend hiring more well trained employees.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
This is a well run business. The whole presentation of the winery, the folks pouring the samples, and the gift shop were all impressive. They have many, many varieties and nearly as many awards. I definitely recommend stopping here. Wine glass free with the sample is a nice touch.
google avatar

Yelp
The wines were okay! The tasting room is a bit dark and boring. We weren't informed that there was a patio to go hang out on until our group was leaving so unfortunately we didn't have much time to take in the wonderful view. If you're going for more of a quiet relaxing vibe, then this could be the place for you. Probably wouldn't recommend for a younger group on a wine tour.

Yelp
I came here with a couple of friends during our "girls weekend" at the lake. Very cute winery with a great view. I personally love roosters, so I had a ball taking pictures with all the rooster-themed things in the place. I was particularly fond of their port wine and bought a bottle. Staff was very friendly and helpful. When you do a tasting, you get to keep the glass too!

Yelp
My first time to this winery was two years ago and I went to a Tunes on the Terrace event that they host. I highly recommend it! The food was delicious, the music was good, and getting two glasses of vino was the cherry on top. Two weeks ago, my boyfriend and I went to Keuka lake to visit my best friend who lives there. I go and visit every year, but it was my boyfriends first time in upstate NY. My bestie is a wine club member so there were a few perks. We had Art for the tasting and he was great! I recommend trying the Silver Pencil (my ultimate favorite), Bubbly Bantom, Gewurztraminer, and the Cabernet Sauvignon. I absolutely will return on my yearly visits.
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
Suzanne, our host, was fun and engaging. She taught us a lot about the wine making process, gave us a top notch tasting experience and convinced us to become members to take advantage of all the events. Add to this the stunning view and beautiful setting and Rooster Hill is a must-stop vineyard on the Keuka Lake Wine Trail.
google avatar

Kate W.

Yelp
Decent wines (we drink/appreciate drier styles) but the staff was not friendly and did not explain the wines well. There were several wines I would have considered buying but I felt like I knew nothing about them. Just drinking the wine is not why I make the trip to the winery, I want to hear about it! I believe they are a newer winery ( see I don't even know) so they are not on the winery maps. Probably still worth a quick visit if you are in the area but most often I would save my tastes for somewhere more interesting.

Yelp
We had a very mediocre experience here last month. The person who answered the phone was very pleasant when she took my reservation. When we arrived, we were seated outside on the patio. They have a beautiful view. We ordered flights from the menu and they were plunked down by a guy with no explanation at all. As we began tasting, we realized we wanted a palate cleanser between tastes, so we called him over and asked if we could order some food. At that point he revealed that he was supposed to have given us a serving of nuts and fruit but he had "got running around." There were only 2-3 other tables occupied. When he brought it, he made a disparaging remark about "Cuomo's issues", an apparent reference to the pandemic-era rule that food must be served with alcohol. We thought was pretty unprofessional. We were not impressed by any of the wines and so did not buy any, although we needed wine and had planned to. With all of the wineries around here, I would not return to this one.

Yelp
First trip to Rooster Hill. Oval bar & gift shop tasting room with all that wine-making stuff hidden behind. Taster Beth led us through the menu. They're serious about their wines here. There are two tasting menus $4 and $6 and you'll get to keep a nice Rooster Hill glass. Didn't find any wines that stood out for me, but maybe the next trip will reveal something worth buying.

Yelp
Last year, my wife and I visited about a dozen Keuka Lake wineries and came home with several bottles from each of them. This year, we went to Rooster Hill only, and brought home two cases of Silver Pencil and Rosemont Red. The tasting cost $3 for five wines, not $6, the woman who helped us was wonderfully chatty and knowledgeable and friendly -- and she wound up offering us several additional tastes beyond the five we'd paid for. Frankly, we were happy enough with the quality of the wines that we just didn't feel the need to go anywhere else. The only reason I'm not giving Rooster Hill a fifth star is that we'd have liked to have been able to have lunch there, but there isn't a kitchen. Otherwise, this is a top-notch winery, and definitely our favorite in the Finger Lakes.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Solid spot on Keuka Lake. On a steep bluff, on the east side of the lake, this is a nice family operation and all of their wines are good. None really stood out as excellent on par with Dr. Frank or Heron Hill, but how many places in NY (or in the entire U.S.) do? The set up reminded me of a Virginia winery, in the way that the winemaker/owner handled our tasting and the feel of the tasting room. Favorites on the list were the pinot noir (who would've thunk that upstate NY would have good pinot noir?) and the Silver Pencil table wines - well priced and very delicious.

Michele K.

Yelp
9/26/2020 1 Star is generous in this case! We made a reservation and waited 20 minutes in line. Once seated, we waited another 20 minutes. We chose out "flight" of 4 wines. The wines were served in shot glasses on a board with descriptions of chosen wines on a piece of paper. No one explained the wines or asked how we were doing. We were totally ignored. A group of 14 women in a bridal party walked through the entire area with NO MASKS! We did not feel safe at this winery. The hostess wore her mask below her nose. They clearly did not have enough help for the day. I was very disappointed as my Son & Daughter-in-law were visiting & we wanted to show them a good time. We ended up leaving after asking to be cashed out. Our concerns were given to the gentleman cashing us out. In this case, COVID was not an excuse! You can still have great customer service during these times.

Yelp
We went and had a tasting yesterday and it will be out last time there, unfortunately. The price of their tasting now is a whopping $7.00 - $9.00!! We were shocked, that is the price of a good bottle of FL wine! Their wine's are good, but not exceptional, there is no reason for this gouging. Needless to say, we did not purchase anything and told every tasting room we visited along the way how shocked we were. Three dollars is plenty to charge and that leaves money to spend on wine. The price of this included a glass; we don't need another wine glass, we need a fair price on a tasting which will make us come back again.

Christina G.

Yelp
Hands down the best winery on keuka lake. The wine is amazing, service is superb, and you feel like family the moment you walk in the door. I would absolutely recommend that you visit this winery at least once during your stay. Paul, the owner, was generous and welcoming, and truly has a passion for wine making.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Did a tasting here but didn't end up buying any wine, because none of it appealed to me enough. The woman who led the tasting was knowledgeable. To the point where I think she might have been a little condescending. If I'm not swirling my wine, it's not because I don't know anything about wine...anyway, it was a nice place. The gift shop was full of cute stuff. I ended up buying some grape boxes to use as planters or for storage.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Super winery on the east side of Keuka lake! Stunning views and flower beds invite you right in. Huge tasting room with two tasting menu options. Different prices for different selections - great idea! Loved the Silver Pencil especially and the sis loved the Rosemont ('red starter wine! lol) I went twice and both times the tasting host/hostesses were professional, sweet and knowledgeable. They make you feel right at home!! Can't wait to be back Rooster Hill!!!
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
Eh, no reason to go back again. I've only been once, but their rieslings were off, which doesn't bode well for everything else.
google avatar

Kristina S.

Yelp
$6 for 5 tastings, not waived if you buy. Not quite worth it. Wines were OK but nothing special. This is the first winery you hit heading south on 54. Pass it by. Plenty more ahead...
google avatar

Ellie J.

Yelp
Nice winery with decent wines but not that special. One old staff were helping us to taste wines and explained everything, we really appreciated. Other 4-5 young staffs were chatting and drinking wines in the other side of tasting bar corner. Tasting room were noisy because of them not because of lots of people. Wine price are bit higher than their taste.
google avatar

Taylor F.

Yelp
Love Love Love!!!!! Our favorite winery to visit! The people who work there are always helpful and friendly!
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
This continues to be my favorite winery in the Finger Lakes. The combination of quality wine and great atmosphere make for a perfect tasting experience.

Karen S.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Beautiful location will a great tasting room. Sampled their cider which I understand is a new product by their new winemaker. Fantastic! Tried to buy a case by was told they were nearly sold out. Put we down for 2 for next year. White wines were very crisp and refreshing. Cabernet Franc was surprisingly full bodied and flavorful for a Finger Lakes region winery. Tasting room personnel told me they have a new winemaker has international experience so I'm excited to see what their 2017 offerings will be. Will definitely stop in this coming year.

Laura B.

Yelp
My husband and I were in the Finger Lakes for our 10 year wedding anniversary, and we had a chance to go to several wineries on Keuka Lake. We got a great first impression walking into Rooster Hill's tasting room - it was really tastefully decorated and there was a good sized tasting area. Unfortunately, the older woman who was helping us was snobby and rude to us. She seemed much more interested in selling us a wine club membership than talking about the wines with us. When we told her we were from Pennsylvania with 2 small children and the wine club wouldn't be practical for us, she was rude and off-putting, and still continued to push the membership!!!! My husband and I liked the wines, but we walked out without purchasing anything because of this woman. The owners of this vineyard might want to reconsider who they hire for tasting room staff - we were very unimpressed and almost insulted by this woman. Unfortunately, we will not go back to this winery if we are ever in the Finger Lakes again.

Anita F.

Yelp
Best winery in the area! It is a beautiful place, the staff is knowledgable and friendly, and the wines are top notch!

Deirdre J.

Yelp
They make good wine, no doubt, but as an experience it left something to be desired. We went in with two friends from out of town, once the host discovered we were local (we live about 50 miles away), she ignored our friends and went for the HARD SELL on the wine club. Way, way, way too hard. We considered it, but she was so rude and pushy, that we eventually decided against it. She then told us she had given us a lot of free wine and that we were making a big mistake. When we asked her about the tasting, she told us we should pay her in cash, though the option to buy our wine with the tastings was real. She was petulant and rude. Really very off-putting. Buy their wines, sure, but stay away from the room (unless they do some retraining or the staff turns over). Disappointing!!

Jennifer F.

Yelp
stunning winery beautiful views and excellent quality wines. Staff was professional and very knowledgeable of all the different wines. Not for the sweet zinfandel drinking crowd, for the serious wine taster. Many award winning wines and quite a variety to pick from.. Tasting room deco was outstanding as were the choices in the gift section. Make sure you find time to stop and visit.
