Roots Café

I found this café after lunch, and it turned out to be a great surprise. It’s a very unique and interesting spot, offering a variety of smoothies, coffee, and light snacks. The overall vibe is artsy and relaxed, making it a great place to unwind. One of the standout features is the art room— they have separate sections where you can draw or paint, which adds a fun and personal touch. The outdoor area also looked inviting and playful. I’d definitely come back to explore more.

Celiac / gluten free safe and wonderful food! Zero risk for cross contamination as there are zero gluten containing items on premises. Enjoyed a mango smoothie and beet salad, can’t wait to return to try more. Very chill and relaxing environment, wish we could have stayed longer!

Edited - the new place is even better!!!! How is this possible?! Vegan gluten-free heaven! Fresh, healthy, delicious food. Admittedly, my kids mostly liked the smoothies and chai - but my husband (omnivore) and I (vegan gf) loved it all!

The food is outstanding and very nice people. If you love smoothies and vegan food then, you are in for a treat. Desserts are also really good. They are all honey based.

Just went on a Friday afternoon and the place has such a nice vibe! The owners are lovely and can highly recommend the green machine smoothie. They also have fun events weekly if interested!

We went on a hike with a friend and he told me this place is good, I was skeptical because generally i am not a fan of vegan food, But it blew my expectations. The place is renovated nicely like an old cottage with a modern asethetic. Tried the juices green machine and some of the bowls, and tacos...I had the coconut curry bowl and everything was fyre.

The kitchen here knows how to make food that satisfies. Many menu categories here and team members who know them all. Their offerings stick to what works. The bill matches the menu prices exactly. This place exceeds rating capabilities.

I know I'll be coming back here more often than I should admit. Workers here display remarkable kindness and readily suggest options if you look undecided. This place balances good flavors with excellent personnel. They prepare food that's clean and properly salted. I spent a weekend at this spot and enjoyed it.

Raw roots is the most amazing healthy delicious food I have ever had. I love every single dish they make -- the owners and warm loving friendly and kind people. The staff is friendly talented and skilled They make amazing food and the desserts are to live for !! The vibe is chill and relaxing and a great atmosphere for a yummy meal !!

So glad they're back! The other day we stopped in for lunch at the new location in Closter NJ. We had the lentil and chili soups--with peanut butter cups and cheesecake! Everything is vegan--I love it because for me it's less to worry about. Ambiance is comfortable, very similar to how they setup the dining room in their old location--which was earthy and homey. This location has an addition of an art room! For art days--appeared to be an area where adults and children can create art. I didn't venture in. Animals are welcome, some patrons had their dogs. Service was great. The cashier charged us for something we did not order and promptly sent a refund. They didn't have the salads and burritos from the previous menu but the owner told me that the menu items will eventually return. Will definitely come back!

I can't imagine what went wrong for those with bad experiences. This spot breaks from dining conventions. The staff elevates every aspect of the dining experience. This spot offers the freshest ingredients without the premium cost. This restaurant demonstrates outstanding attention to detail.

From wine list to dessert tray, everything impresses. The owner (or manager) was really nice. The food here makes me happy. The service staff is friendly, food is satisfying, and amounts are generous. Can't wait to go back for more menu options.

An unexpected vegan surprise in NJ If you enjoy trying different foods or just like vegan food, this is a great, local option. In terms of food, we liked the original sushi roll, taco and pizza. They also have juices, smoothies and various desserts. They have a few tables indoors and outdoors. They also sell coffee beans and things like handmade soaps inside. This is one place you feel good supporting and it transplants you out of the suburbs and into somewhere much trendier. It isn't easy to spot from the road so you have to know it's there.

Great, healthy food, good size portions, friendly and attentive people preparing your food. Good value.

This is where delicious food, amazing staff, laidback ambiance and magic meet. I went here last week for the first time. When we walked through the parking lot, we were amazed to find such an open outdoor seating area. Perfect for summers and cool fall days. Inside, the decor is fun and warm. The staff were so friendly and made some great recommendations for food and drinks. We ordered quinoa bowl, a classic pizza, the tropical smoothie and a lavender blues smoothie. Everything was fresh and delicious. The meal was so satisfying. We felt full but not weighed down. The cafe also has the sweetest mascot, Riley. Everyone seemed to know her! She's so gentle and adorable. Made the visit even more special. Can't wait to go back and try more!

Never thought that we would find a place with such a Californian and Hawaiian Vibe here in NJ. Super cute place which might be difficult to locate until you try and go till the end of the suites located at the location, turn left and then enter the cafe through the tent. Friendly staff and the cafe has a quirky interior, their entire menu is vegan. We tried the Trio Timeless Tacos and the Mediterranean quinoa bowl. The Trio Timeless Tacos tasted good, we got one of each, they were so light and healthy, each tasted unique in their own sense. The Mediterranean Quinoa Bowl tasted a bit bland but overall a good portion.

Very dope vibe!! My little poochie terror was welcomed. I had the sushirrito which tasted amazing. The veggies were fresh, the vibe very laid back and whimsical. Definitely a gem!

I'm a meats and potatoes kind of guy, so when a friend of mine suggested meeting up here for dinner, I initially declined, but then told him that I don't mind tagging along, I would just eat ahead of time. That was a big mistake, as this is one of the coolest restaurants I've ever been to, and not at all what I expected. The décor and vibe is hard to describe; I would pick glamping as the best one word description. The food was beautifully plated, and the part of the dinner that was shared with me was delicious. It was hard to believe that it was raw and vegan! There was a long list of delicious sounds smoothies, shakes, and drinks, in addition to all of the appetizers and entrees. I can't wait to come back, and try everything.

My mom is in town so I decided to try to take her to a few vegan spots. This was both our first time at Roots Cafe but not our last! Everything from the coffee to the food was amazing! My mom ordered an iced coffee and I started with a cold brew. Both were out of this world. We decided to share the pad Thai salad and Buffy Chicky burrito. OMG. Both dishes were delicious and filling. We did not have room for dessert but next time will make a point to try something chocolate. Our only complaint was the outdoor seating. The tables are sort of random and piecemeal. They were also dirty with leaves and debris. Also, only one had an umbrella and it was occupied so we got stuck sitting in the sun.

The healthiest and tastiest vegan food on this planet. I absolutely love that they don't use any processed oils in their food. The flavor of the food in this restaurant is full, robust, and delicious. I feel healed, inspired, and rejuvenated every time I eat here.

This cozy little, laid-back hip gem boasts super tasty raw vegan offerings...whenever I eat here I feel like I'm doing my body a favor! We had the pad Thai, zucchini noodles and "neatballs", and the GOAT smoothie...a delectable blend of mint, cardamom, and ginger. Try this place!

New favorite local place. Food is outstanding and vibe reminds of the welcoming places I frequent in upstate NY. Can't wait to go back!

This place is so unlike anywhere I've ever been, thanks Yelp! I don't write reviews unless it's super memorable. This food truck on a small farm has amazing smoothies. I couldn't decide what I wanted so I got the reishi pnut cup and the lavender blues. So good! I could only finish less than half of each of the small. I'm excited to have the left overs for breakfast. I wish I was hungrier or lived closer so I could have tried more, I'll definitely come back next time I'm back in town for work.

Love Roots Café!! This gem is a wholesome experience and you feel good about eating here. It is an elevated experience for a vegan foodtruck. They also carry my favorite Chai tea from a local minority small owned business. Rekha's Chai Co!! Try their chai and also the taco trio!!

The vibe was nice, the dog was great and it's a great looking place, but as a meat eater, the food was ok. I ordered 6 tacos and a burrito and this was my first time trying vegan food. I don't think I'll ever like vegan food because everything was cold.

I don't usually eat vegan but figured I would try it. The Food was fantastic for a vegan joint but service from employee Sophia made me not want to come back. Very unprofessional and rude when I asked questions about what to try as I said I don't usually eat this cuisine and was interested in educating myself. Her service and behavior was entitled towards me making me feel unwelcomed as a new customer which is a shame. If your message is holistic and healthy then don't hire toxic people. Would come back if the employment was different. Otherwise 4/5 Edit: I only posted this because I felt being treated poorly and TOLD I was stupid by this Sophia for asking so many questions that happened to annoy her made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. Sorry if my uneducatedness on the topic bothers the holier than thou roots "family"!!

Healthy plates bringing you with tons of energy with a great vibe and sweat people. The Beet shake was fantastic, the pizza was incredible, and the burrito was excellent. The only thing I might change is have the plantain chips came on top of or on the side when you order Togo (easy fix). Just keep in mind that since it's a small hole in the wall restaurant ordering Togo is probably the best way to purchase food from here. Ps - I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian but I genuinely love their food. If I had to put it into words it tastes "deliciously clean". The portions are perfectly sized never leaving hungry or to full. Definitely go here

The food is so amazing you'll forget that it is raw. The Pad Thai was super fresh and full of flavor. I also had a cookie ice cream sandwich that was delicious. Can't wait to come back again and try more items from their menu. Also, the staff was super friendly and helpful.

Consistently inconsistent. It's a very hit or miss experience depending on the day and who is preparing your food/beverages. Also, I'm very confused by their use of honey... when I asked about it I was told since they use honey, they NOW consider themselves plant based rather than vegan. This didn't make much sense to me as honey is neither vegan OR plant based... maybe they meant to use the word raw but that would still be contradicting from being considered a "plant-based" establishment. Guys, lose the honey otherwise you will lose the vegans and plant based individuals...

Had the pleasure meeting one of the owners Dean. I love his vibe and the crew was also amazing and welcome. This concept is incredible and really feels like "home." The food is spectacular, the venue is cozy - and there's a gym!!! Coming from California, my expectations were not only high - but exceeded. Thank you to everyone at Roots for sharing your energy. We can't say enough great things about this place. Everything we've had here so far was absolutely delicious. Super friendly vibes with everyone you interact with. We drive out 30 minutes almost every weekend and it's completely worth it. Our favorite menu items are the buffy chicky and pad thai slaw. 10/10 recommend!

I needed lunch and I just became plant-based a few months ago and I find this place on yelp. Ordered the Beyond Good Buritto and a Brownie. Delicious and lots of flavor. Will definitely go back.

This is the coolest place that seems more like it should be in Venice Beach, CA then bucolic suburban NJ, but that's what I love about it. It is so hard to be gluten and dairy free and find food in any restaurant around here let alone be able to eat every last item on the menu...and everything is 100% raw, fresh and quality ingredients. Everything passes the taste test whether a fresh smoothie, coffee or tea or any of the food choices form pad thai to burritos to salads. The place has a calm, zen vibe. The non-matching tables and chairs and art pieces are so charming like they were collected from cool flea markets or Grandma's attic. I'd travel a long way to go here. Try it!

Absolutely loved this place. Went on a plant based diet four weeks ago, and have been craving some good food. Everything I had was super healthy and unexpectedly delicious! Taco trio excellent. What a great meal!!! We were with my wife at Subaru dealer next door and when they were working on our paperwork we had 1 hour so we decided to look for a place to have a bite. We are organic people so our 1st search was roots cafe. Very cute area with a farm, wellness center and a food truck. We pick 2 smoothies, the shroomy and lavender blue taste so delicious. We order the beyond good burrito and the pad Thai, both were spectacular. They place to seat, picnic table with shades and a porch to relax, they even bring your food to you. What a great service. A great find, we love the atmosphere feels to be on vacation

Every take a side road and end up finding a magical place? That's how I stumbled upon Roots, and it will be a destination forevermore. This place embodies the soul of the freer spiried west coast in food and form. Beyond vegan, glutenfree and other labels, this is a place to try feed body and soul. I had the avocado "toast" which is their toasted chickpea-flax tortilla topped with mashed avo, smoked paprika, nutritional yeast and their home grown sprout mix and a made to order organic juice and spent a half hour relishing the yoga/reading/creative space attached.

This place was one of the best places i've been to in a very long time. Especially for trying vegan options now. I highly recommend this place to staff are wonderful and very accommodating. Definitely recommend coming here I know I will again. Sunflower crust pizza was really different but I enjoyed it. The tacos are also very good.

The hype is real my friends, this place is a legit five star raw food cafe. They have friendly staff, a unique seating area, and amazing raw food. I really, really hate to use Yelp clichés, however this place is a "Hidden Gem" by definition; I mean really hidden. The cafe is literally on the rear side of a comercial complex building. There signs for the cafe when you turn off the main road, but no signs on the main road. If I didn't find this place on the Yelp app I would never know about it. When you walk in its like stepping into another dimension. The place is decorated to be peaceful and tranquil. They have a counter where you order, but the room to the side is such a cool room. It's not traditional seating it's more like the comfy seating you would see in an indy coffee shop with lots and lots of plants; so beautiful!! On my first visit I had the raw garden burger with dried plantain chips. This was my very first raw food meal and I have to say I was quite impressed on how good it was, and those plantain chips were so good! The second time I had the Guc de Wrap which was another amazing dish; I was unaware of how awesome the actual wrap made of dehydrated vegetables could be! I work all over northern NJ and this gives me a reason to be excited about working in Northwestern Bergen County!

Quick review: My new favorite place to eat and maybe even hang out and get work done with a coffee or smoothie. Came in and was greeted right away and directed to their menus on the wall. Both of the things I wanted said Sold out. So I went with my third choice (pizza) and a veggie juice( the protector). The protector juice was really tasty especially the ginger and apple in it! It came out cold and quickly! The pizza came on top of a salad. So many greens on my salad plus sprouts, peppers, tomatoes, and a lemony gingery dressing( im actually not sure what was it, but it was good) NOW FOR THE PIZZA... it was a flax and hemp seed crust with pesto, cashew cheez, and raw veggies. It was crazyyyy good. I started eating a whole plant based 1 month ago. Its been really hard to find good places to eat. Roots does everything right it vegan and healthy!!! This place is cozy too and the staff was beyond amazing and accommodating... I cant wait to go again and again... Oh And then dessert cinnabon was mind blowing. The decor was awesome I felt like i was in a garden or jungle cafe.

AMAZING food!! Ordered thru Grubhub-tacos and burrito and food was scrumptious and delivery was on time!! Definitely will be ordering on a reg from this joint! Clean, delicious and nourishing ...do I need to say more?!
