This was so worth it! Was in town visiting and wanted some good caribbean food. When I say the food was soooooo good🔥🔥, and they give a good portion for the amount you pay! Kimberly, waitress and cashier, was a sweetheart. Me and my friend ate there, place was small and casual but good vibes. If I didn't have to catch a flight back home, if I lived there, I would of been ordering food here all the time. Picture of stew snapper, escovitch, bamny, festival, steamed cabbage, rice and beans, and thee bomb rum punch!

I came to Fort Lauderdale for a birthday party and was introduced to this restaurant I must say preparation time very reasonable ,presentation was amazing , service great, restaurant was clean, but most of all the food was delicious.

First off, worth the wait and price. I made the mistake of not calling ahead and ordered when I got there. Had to wait 30 minutes but well worth it. Food was fresh and hot. Seasoned great and large portions. I got the Barbi fried chicken and a side of Mac n cheese. My wife got the Cajun salmon pasta. To my surprise they give the option of white or dark meat. My wife loved the pasta and had leftovers. Here are the reasons I didn't give them 5 stars for the food. Came in hoping to taste their jerk chicken and they had none. Also said they don't know when or what day they would. Their Mac n cheese is to sweet for my taste. Cheese consistency was ok but the sugar kept throwing me off. I'll definitely try them again and will call ahead. Hopefully they'll have jerk chicken.

Google
10 out of 10!!! Highly recommend!!! I don't know where to begin. OMG! The food was to die for. Everything is made fresh. We had the Cajun chicken and shrimp pasta and all I can say was WOW! I was amazing! The flavors were so good and it was served piping hot and fresh. My girlfriend had the steamed fish with a side of steamed bammy and her mouth is still watering from the presentation and flavors. We also had a side of jerk chicken wings and we are still licking our fingers from it tasting so amazing! So not only is the food good but the staff and the chef was super friendly and nice. We went for a brunch with my girlfriends and I and ended up staying there for 3 hours talking enjoying the vibe and atmosphere. If you have a chance please take the time to stop by and enjoy the food! Tell the chef Stacy sent you 😀.

Google
The food was great, and I had the curry shrimp, which was a nice size, not spicy but amazing flavors. We also enjoyed escovitch snappers and were delicious great spice and flavors. I like plastic resealable containers, unlike other restaurants that use Styrofoam clam shells. The only negative was that it was a long wait for the delivery. The food was delivered over an hour when the order was placed. The Uber driver had to wait a while for food to be packed. We will definitely think of future orders. Update 1.11.25 Ordered Cajun Chicken Salad and was ready in 15 mins for pickup. It's superb, with a massive amount of lettuce, corn, tomatoes, and strawberries! The big chunks of heavy peppered chicken were outstanding and 🔥, so be prepared. I ate it for dinner after 8 pm, and there was too much food. I will definitely devour the leftovers Update 2.15.25 Bang Bang shrimp with rice and peas and plantains was amazing. The shrimp texture sweet, battered with a nice crunch. The meals are massive, couldn't eat all. I will definitely finish Sunday. The escovitch snapper with plantains and steam veggie is phenomenal. The fish is huge and nuff flavor. The escovitch sauce so good i put it on bang bang shrimp.

The food has gotten better over the years. I love how innovative the owner is with his menu. At first I wasn’t a fan but I stuck around and I’m a huge fan now. The lamb chops and jerk wings have grown to be my favorite dish on the menu. I highly recommend trying them.

Google
They had music playing as soon as I walked it, which instantly set the mood! I got the Mac and cheese and grilled chicken breast and boy the flavors were amazing my taste buds were literally dancing. Will definitely be coming back!!!

Yelp
By far one of my favorite Caribbean spots!!!! They never fail me when i feel like eating authentic Caribbean food. I've been coming here for years and honestly i could write a book on how great the food is here. My personal favorite is the Rasta pasta. They aren't shy with the bell peppers and corn and i absolutely love it For my seafood lovers, the bang bang shrimp and Honey BBQ Salmon are like no other!! The blending of the flavors just makes you wanna melt in flavorful heaven. So i didn't know about their Sunday brunch until a few months ago, and honestly it was amazing!!! I wish they offered mimosas along with the food but the large portions make up for it. I tried the French toast and my boyfriend had the Ackee and salt fish. Let's just say it was gone within minutes and we left no crumbs. We didn't eat at the restaurant since it was such a beautiful day we decided to eat it poolside and it really fit the atmosphere. I always prefer to call in advance since it's a smaller hidden gem, but the service is always great! They always let you know in advance how long the wait time is and once it's ready they'll even call you back. I've introduced multiple friends and family of mine to this restaurant and I've never gotten a negative reaction to Rootz's menu. I personally haven't tried everything but everything I've ordered off this menu DOESN'T DISAPPOINT! Love this restaurant and hope to see them branch out in the near future!

Yelp
Let just say the brunch be brunching... of course social media led me here. It's a small place that has brunch on Sundays with a live dj. The selection is more so Caribbean food. The woman at the counter was so nice and helpful. Any questions I had she had detailed answers and I really liked that. I ended up placing to go orders for me and my mom. So I ordered the chicken and waffles, the chicken was fried to perfection and the waffle was fluffy and good. I also ordered a side of ackee and saltfish. This had to be the best I've ever had in the states. I really enjoyed everything I bought. I also ended up ordering one of their in house drinks a raspberry and mango I guess lemonade. Very refreshing!!! I can definitely say I'm running this meal back immediately.

Yelp
The food is awesome and tastes authentic! The service is impressive and she always greets us with a smile! The ambiance and music make you want to stick around! The wings, Esco snapper, bang bang salad & pasta are top notch. Well you have what you like and decide for yourself!

Yelp
This place is for sure a hidden gem. The food is so yummy. The service is also pretty good. There is a small area to dine in or outside. However, we also order ahead to pick up. My favorite is the salmon salad. My goal is to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
The cost and the portion of the food is not equivalent in my opinion. Although, it takes some time to get your food even if you call it in. Overall the taste of the food is acceptable.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on my birthday for lunch and i had the shrimp pasta { bang bang fried shrimp } pasta and it was kinda good I've had better but it was ok . The restaurant is pretty small kinda a hiding gem but more of a to go place to get food . The food was cooked to order a nice size amount to possible share if your not to greedy like me lol any who i give the pasta a 5/10 it came with about 10 big shrimps which kinda tasted like it was cooked in the fried chicken oil but it was good , I'm not sure why the died tomatoes but it was to many of them sprinkled on the pasta and it seemed to be very cheese i wished it had more bang bang sauce on the pasta since that's what it's called I'll probably try this place again but with fried chicken pasta

Yelp
Food was absolutely delish. Staff was very inviting and courteous. Tender oxtail and the fish was really good.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. Immediate welcoming greeting. Great menu variety. Beautiful appetizing plating . Almost too pretty to eat but the aroma says dig in!! The Butter Garlic Shrimp packs a spicy kick. Loads of large tender shrimp. Big mound of rice and peas had sweet undertones of coconut milk. Large slices of fried plantains were perfectly crispy outside and soft inside. Peach lemonade was also artfully presented and refreshing. Only strike is no standard height table and seating for inside dining. Otherwise, one of the most delicious meals I've enjoyed. Can't wait to return to try other dishes!

Yelp
It's a small restaurant with limited seating with a lot of to go orders. We decided to sit and eat since it was quiet. We ordered the Pan Seared Honey BBQ Salmon and the Hot Honey Fried chicken. You select two sides (Mac and cheese not included since it comes in a mini constrainer). It was so much food and absolutely delicious. It is pricey, but worth it for the taste and portion size. We both had enough to take home for another meal. Highly recommend trying!

Yelp
The fish is nothing short of exceptional! Infused with authentic Jamaican spices and cooked to perfection, it's a must-try for seafood enthusiasts. The menu takes you on a journey through Jamaica's rich culinary heritage, featuring traditional dishes like jerk chicken, ackee and saltfish, and oxtail. Service is amazing as well as the ambiance a must try.

Jalisa G.

Yelp
The atmosphere is amazing and inviting. The food is unbelievably good!!!!!! It's a must try!!!! Will be back again!!!!!

Yelp
Oh my goodness! I tried them for the fist time because of proximity and reviews. They live up to reviews. I have never had bang bang snapper anywhere nor seen that ever offered. Great flavor, unique and delicious. Big portions. They gave me 2 take out boxes because the fish wouldn't fit in the box with rice and peas and steam veg. I recommend highly.

Donnie B.

Yelp
The food was very good. Me and girlfriend both and great meals and customer service was great. If you're in the mood for great island food or great food period stop by, you won't be disappointed.

Josh M.

Yelp
Amazing! The food was great! The service and atmosphere were great! I got the bang bang shrimp pasta and it took me on a journey. You will not regret coming here and you'll find yourself coming back again soon.

Yelp
I don't claim to be an expert on Jamaican food. I've been there only a few times. But what I do know is the best food on the island, like many places in the Caribbean, is prepared at roadside shacks, outdoor cafes and in private homes. By cooks that put love into their food. Exactly like this. This is the real thing, made with fresh ingredients and plenty of spice -- the Scotch Bonnet pepper, a close relative of the Habanero, is present in just about everything. In skilled hands, the "bonney" doesn't overpower, it provides a fruitiness and warmth that compliments the flavor of the dishes. This pepper, along with allspice and thyme, is the signature seasoning of Jamaican cuisine. You can certainly order the food hotter if you think it doesn't hit the high notes, but I'd caution you not to do so. This is island food at its best, especially if you are a chile-head. Chef Ade, who owns the restaurant with his family, can be best described as an artist in the comfort food of his native culture. Do not expect frills. Not everything on the menu is available yet. It's a former takeout pizza place with 16 high-back stools on four high-tops and eight singles along the walls. Everything is served by default in styrofoam containers with the assumption that most of their customers are taking their food to go. Reggae music is streaming on autopilot. The sun shines brightly through the large front window and the smiles inside are even brighter. It doesn't feel like you are in Florida, it feels like you are going to some local dive in Ocho Rios or Montego Bay and you've been given a tip on where to eat real local food from your taxi driver just after being picked up from the airport on the way to your resort. Start off with an ice-cold Red Stripe -- Jamaican for beer -- or a Rootz Punch, a non-alcoholic interpretation of a Rum Punch seasoned with floating pearls of Jamaican allspice that is both sweet, bitter and herbal (no, not that kind of herbal). The menu runs the gamut from charcoal-grilled Jerk chicken and pork (only Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) to homestyle dishes like Escoveitch (fried snapper in Creole sauce), curries as well as "island-style" pasta creations. We began with crispy fried Jerk Wings, which really brings out the allspice and classic Jamaican flavor, and is only a little on the sweet side, as well as the Honey Hot, which are like classic Buffalo with a strong hit of Scotch Bonnet and then dipped in honey. Both are excellent, are quite spicy, and I'm hard-pressed to say which one I like better. Make sure you have a cold drink handy. While something of a reverse import back to America, the Mac and Cheese is true Jamaican-style and is not to be missed -- it's baked to order and served in its own aluminum tray, and is super-cheesy with a creamy texture. Like a lot of other things on this menu, it's also a tad bit on the spicy side, incorporating fresh cayenne peppers and a few other things I couldn't easily identify. They neglected to tell us everything that was in it when we asked because it is a family secret. Just order it -- it's a bargain. Bang Bang Shrimp -- while also not something you will normally get on the island -- has also been adapted to Jamaican-American palates. It's not just spicy and rich, it's also got curry and other things in it. Nothing at this place should be taken at face value, even if you think it's a simple dish or something you recognize. It's not typical monochromatic Caribbean food and you can tell just by the way Chef Ade does his plating, as well as his attention to the freshness and variety of vegetables he uses. Yes, you will get your veggies here. Order the mixed vegetables with your entrée and you will get a bright canvas of colors that you typically will not see in other Caribbean cuisines or even in regular Jamaican food. You'll get Okra, Green Pepper, Carrots, Squash, Onions, and Cabbage. We were stunned when we got our Curry Shrimp -- it practically jumped out of the tray, and the seasoning of the vegetables was wonderful and paired great with the yellow rice they had that day. And if you ask for a salad, you'll get a real salad, with nice red tomatoes as well. The restaurant can also do Ital Rastafarian-style (vegan) food with soy chunks, which is similar to textured vegetable protein (TVP) but has more of a dark meat chicken-like mouthfeel when cooked. We had it with butter beans, prepared in the style of tripe, with a light curry sauce. This was incredibly flavorful, surprisingly spicy and goes well with Festivals (a type of white cornmeal frybread) and Bammies (fried cassava flatbread, introduced by the native Arawak Indians).

Yelp
A yelp friend Jason P. recommended this joint to me a while ago, but I finally tried it yesterday. The best Jamaican food I've ever had so far. It was outstanding. The establishment was a bit hard to find. I've been to this plaza more than a few times, and even when I was looking for it I had to drive around twice to finally find it. I was shocked since the menus on yelp didn't match the available Sunday brunch menu, but it didn't take long for me to make the obvious choice of chicken & waffles, and jerk chicken wings (since many reviews claims they're very hot which I like). The jerk wings were outstanding however a bit too breaded for my preference. The Chicken and waffles were enough for 3 meals for me and were amazing. The fruit and syrup provided was a perfect sweet and savory combo. Customer service was excellent, and it was super clean inside. Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
Friday night take out. I wanted something healthy and fresh. Best place to go where most dishes are cooked to order is Rootz Bar N Cafe. Stopped by for a steam fish entree with steam veggies and fried green plantain on the side. The fish was absolutely delightful! Simmered with carrots, potatoes, pumpkin and water crackers. I took a pass on including okra. Not my thing. The steam veggies were sautéed in garlic and butter. The side included cabbage, corn, peas, string beans and other vegetables that is ma forgetting. The portion was large enough that I really didn't need the plantains, but I ate them anyway. Chef Ade knows how to blend flavors. I think I need to set a goal of having everything on the menu.

Yelp
Now favorite Jamaican restaurant ! I've been going to a few local Jamaican restaurant in the Fort Lauderdale area. Further, roots has been most impressive and I'll explain. 1. Most importantly the food is fire 2. The restaurant was clean; tables , trash maintained, clean countertop and food area. 3. Good atmosphere; staff was polite and the air was fill with authentic Jamaican cooking. 4. Food again; try the shrimp pasta !!! The shrimp pasta was amazing !!!! Literally heaven on earth My rating for roots is and my new favorite Jamaican spot !!!

Yelp
My go to spot for Jamaican food. Huge portions. Everything cooked fresh. Chef never disappoints here.

Yelp
My husband picked up an order of veggie chunks and butter beans for me to eat after work as a surprise. When I got home and took the meal out of the refrigerator, the food looked good, but had a very sour smell to it. Being that he went out of his way to find vegetarian food for me as a treat, I tried to eat it. The sour smell was overpowering. The food is not cheap either... 13.00 for a vegetarian entree. I was terribly disappointed. Update*** I called the restaurant to speak to someone about the issue. The woman was RUDE!! Never going back. Horrible customer service.

Yelp
My job had a company event & we had Rootz Bar cater the food. Best decision EVER!!! Rootz Bar N Cafe is the ABSOLUTE BEST Jamaican food I've ever had! I've tried several, fairly popular, Jamaican restaurants in south Florida & none of them can come close to Rootz. We ordered curry goat, curry chicken, rice & peas, salad, snapper, steamed vegetables, bang bang shrimp pasta, Rasta pasta, festival, and plantains and EVERYTHING was AMAZING! I could have drank the curry goat sauce through a damn straw...it was just that good. Everything was fresh, staff was professional & the food was ready for pickup at the agreed time. We got so much food & the prices were excellent too. I can't wait until our next company luncheon so I can order from Rootz again. Whenever my family & I are craving Jamaican cuisine, this is the ONLY place I'll go from now on. I don't know who's recipe they're using or who the chef is, but all I know is ... I LOVE YOU!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I don't know, it may just be me but I can't justify the cost of their food for less than authentic Jamaican rice & peas, Store bought precooked wings, store bought sweet plantains, store bought potato salad. I get that the barbifry makes them popular but I just can't. This is definitely designer food. And I definitely don't need designer Jamaican food.

Yelp
This my grub spot it's so good! I've been ranting about them in my girl chats! Only things is except a wait time I have yet to arrive and my food be ready on time

Shelly L.

Yelp
Had the Barbi fried chicken with rice and peas and Mac and cheese on the side (holy crap you get a lot! Which is great!). Food was yummy and fresh. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Wow this has to be thee best Jamaican food I've had in a long while. Usually , I get fed up with these Caribbean restaurants because of their poor customer service and lack of the core part of the meal but this restaurant gave me some hope . Their bang bang sauce on everything is unforgettable and the Mac and cheese is to DIE for . Highly recommend! Not your average Caribbean cuisine.
google avatar

Toni P.

Yelp
I cannot speak to the food, as I refused to even consider ordering after I walked in and saw at least two employees--one behind the counter and one doing food prep in the kitchen--and neither of them was wearing a mask. Apparently they don't think enough of their customers to require their employees to wear face coverings WHILE PREPPING AND SERVING FOOD TO THE PUBLIC. I will never set foot in there again, because their failure to take any precautions to protect the public during this pandemic is REPREHENSIBLE.
google avatar

Yelp
My family and I came here for dinner after seeing such positive reviews. Wow! The food was amazing! Mimi was very sweet and helped me navigate the menu after mentioning my dietary restrictions. We ended up ordering the jerk chicken with green plantains and rice, the Cajun chicken with green plantains, and a salad. My husband ordered the honey hot wings, and we couldn't get enough of the amazing flavors. The food presentation was beautiful, and I loved how the chef brought the food to our table. We will definitely be coming back! Thank you for such a wonderful experience, and too notch customer service.

Yelp
I was running errands in the area and ordered food at this cute spot. I always love a place with plenty of healthy options. I ordered a salmon salad and loved it! A nice sized slice of BBQ salmon. The lady that took my order was very sweet. I love supporting local businesses. Will eat here again!

Yelp

Yelp
Can't wait to try their brunch on Sunday! The food is excellent. Small place but food as BIG FLAVOR! My husband and I ordered to go! So good!
google avatar

Yelp
Barbie fry chicken is my family's favorite. Vegetable peas soup, fried green plantains. Nice ambience to eat in on a lazy Friday night or call for a pick-up to avoid the preparation time They do a Sunday brunch but unfortunately no rice and peas on Sunday

Yelp
Had the bang bang shrimp and it was amazing. Great service plus vibes. Will be back to try more food.

Yelp
The food was excellent! The service was prompt and memorable customer service. Try them out and let the food/service speak for itself.

Donnett S.

Yelp
The #1 Jamaican restaurant in South Florida. The food, the staff, the ambiance, and the respect. The food is prepared everyday with Love. Every plate has its own story, the presentation is always on point. It's Jamaican food with a twist, every item on your plate will give you memories. Even if you order the same food on every visit, the presentation is always different with a little "suppen suppen". The Chef/Owner has a very articulate passion about his preparation, outcome, and his presentation is his #1 priority. He'll stop cooking, come outside and bless you with his presence to make sure your food, your experience, what else can he do, or he could've done to make your experience any better.. and he always has a smile on his face. Stop by anytime between Tuesday-Saturday.. and for his Sunday Brunch.

Rasheeda F.

Yelp
Food was not good at all. The salmon burgers we like a sub not really a burger. Ty was hard to eat. Didn't offer anything but friend plantain as a side over 40 mins for the food. Wouldn't recommend.

Lerenzo C.

Yelp
Hands down the best Caribbean food in South Florida! The bang bang shrimp and salmon are amazing. The Barbi Fried chicken taste homemade. The salmon salad is great if you're eating healthy. All of the food is top notch!!

Yanique P.

Yelp
A friend recommended Rootz for brunch so I went with my husband and oh my goodness, it was soooo much better than I thought it would be. The portions are big. Best mimosas everrr!!! I will definitely be coming back

Yelp
One of the best West Indian restaurants in the area. I'm a regular. Never had a bad meal. If you don't give this place a shot, you're definitely selling yourself short.

Yelp
Food was absolutely excellent!! Very tasty. Very Fresh!! Got the Escovitch Snapper and it was fried well. Not over dry but left crispy and moist!! The onions and peppers had just the right blend and amount of heat (I like to taste my food, not the pepper). I hope they are able to keep the quality in the food over time!!!! Keep it up guys!!
google avatar

Camilo T.

Yelp
Their food is to die for... the barbie chicken and jerk chicken is so moist that you must order white meat.... their bang bang shrimp has some BANGGGG!!! OOOOOH SOOO GOOD!!!

Sylva D.

Yelp
This place is worth stopping by. The food is delicious and the staff is gracious. We had the Barbifry Chicken and BBQ salmon OMG they were soooooooooo goooood. I got white meat which was a a pleasant surprise you get to choose without a surcharge being added. The chicken was juicy and the sauce was as if your eating Jamaican KFC BBQ chicken. For my island ppl you know what that means. My best friend got the salmon and she praised it as well she savour every bite. We purchased the entrees which came with two sides each. For her salmon my friend chose the steam vegetables with rice and peas. For me I chose the sweet plantain with potato salad and let me tell you that was the best choice I made. We both got the lemonade which was great can't complain. If you haven't tried this restaurant yet you should definitely stop by. From start to finish we were very pleased this is now our new spot for Good Eats.

Yelp
Best Barbi-fry chicken I have eaten thus far. I keep going back for the Barbi-fry with bammy and festival. Def need a nap after eating this good

Ron L.

Yelp
Highly recommended!! The flavor of the fish (snapper escovitch) was amazing! Cooked to perfection I also had the festival (best I've ever had) and side salad with strawberry dressing very tasty as well overall everything was fresh, flavorful and full of color I recommend this place to anybody that appreciates authentic Jamaican cuisine or anybody willing to try something new you won't regret it.

Bianca O.

Yelp
Everytime I call to order food the phone just rings. I was so excited to try the barbi fried chicken but it tasted like some old fried chicken from the night before that the threw bbq sauce on. Was not satisfied at all.

Shanique J.

Yelp
Best Jamaican Cuisine in south Florida. The food is literally heavenlyyyy! Customer service was amazing and service was fast! The only bad thing I have to say is that they close way too early(8pm). If they could extend their hours I would give them 10 stars!!!!

Lindsay F.

Yelp
My coworkers and I have been ordering from here once a week because we all love the food so much! So far I've only had the oxtail because it is that good! I only tried the escovitch snapper once(delicious!).I've heard everyone only say good things about their food so its safe to say everything is on point! One of these days I'll try something else besides the oxtail lol. My new favorite spot! Support black businesses!

Andrea S.

Yelp
They had one price on the menu and when in i pay the charged me a lot more money they indicated that their prices changed and that they needed to update the menu i found this to be dishonest as the juice in their menu was 3 dollars and they made me paid $8.50
