Rosa Et Al Townhouse, Porto, Portugal - Explore & Book

"Porto has a warm, creative buzz and in its hippest neighbourhood, close to the gallery-studded Rua de Miguel Bombarda, is the warm, creative Rosa Et Al Townhouse. Hidden behind the most unassuming of doorways, this elegant old building has been imaginatively restored by brother-and-sister team Emanuel and Patrícia, and from the moment you enter it feels more like home than hotel. Rotating modern art adorns the walls and a sense of wellbeing pervades throughout, from the bright lobby showcasing homemade gourmet products at the front to the herb-scented garden to the rear. It's well suited to a weekend break, and staff will anticipate your every need: booking taxis, suggesting restaurants, and sharing insider tips on their favourite haunts. A spiral staircase topped by a magnificent glass dome sweeps up to a little library and six light-filled bedrooms, all with a funky blend of vintage 60s furniture, Portuguese linens and clawfoot tubs, and many with balconies that catch the sun. A seventh bedroom waits in the Garden Pavilion. You can also book an elegant loft apartment located near Praça da Batalha, in the heart of the city centre. As for the food - much of it organic, some of it home-grown - it’s a delicious surprise from lazy all day brunches to informal dinners. We loved it as much as the vibrant city in which it sits, and we can’t wait to return. Highs An impeccable renovation of a traditional townhouse, with original architecture alongside contemporary designAn intimate, laid-back atmosphere, with an enchanting city garden and in-room massages to help you unwindSpacious, well-priced rooms with covetable pieces by the likes of Charles and Ray Eames and Hans WegnerLots of tasty treats: three-, six-, nine- and 12-course dinners, all-day brunches, home-baked cakes, cookery workshopsSet in the trendiest part of town, where restaurants and boutiques abound, and just a 15-minute stroll from the historic riverfront Lows The Club room has no fitted division between the bed and bathroom (not ideal for those who like their privacy)The building isn't obviously marked, making it delightfully discreet but a bit tricky to spot Service at breakfast can be a little slow (another excuse to sit back and take things easy!)No lift so it’s a bit of a clamber up to rooms on the upper floors, but staff will assist with luggageThe floorboards are very creaky - we could hear people moving about in the room above when we last visited" - Abi Dare

Disclaimer: We did not know that a "townhouse" was actually a guesthouse. We had a somewhat bad start, as the "guesthouse" (vs hotel) did not advise on the parking accommodations we had arranged. We drove around the block several times to find parking and check in, only to be told that this wasn't a hotel and that it was more of an Airbnb. That being said, our room (the garden room) was lovely. There were design issues that required us to rearrange the layout. The safe was unreachable. The outdoor shower was overgrown with plants. But somehow the space was lovely, magical, and a good value. You'll likely enjoy this room if you choose it. Also, the breakfast team did a fantastic job (although you will likely go over your allotted $30/day allowance). We loved their scones, in particular. We also visited Early, their recommended restaurant, which was virtually empty, but nonetheless a great meal.

Stylish establishment with much attention to detail. Exquisite interior with a nice local feel and great comfort. Loved the space and the amenities. Unlike quite few places in Porto, this was spacious, well maintained and true to what pictures stated! Artsy neighborhood with interesting galleries and original dining options. Had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!

The room was spacious, well lit by two large garden view rooms and kept cool, but the wooden floor was very creaky and there was clear signs of damp on one wall. Major complaint was that breakfast was sold as "included", but turned out to be a €15 per person limit that was not mentioned at any time when booking, arriving or sitting down at breakfast 5 days in a row, only when it came to pay! Bit of a scam there.

Beautiful guesthouse, each detail has been thought of and provided with in top quality, the garden is a beautiful relaxing place to sit, the restaurant food is stunning. Our room|On the top floor overlooking the garden was a beautiful tranquil retreat, the bed and bedding provided the most comfortable place to sleep and rejuvenate.

Stayed here for a weekend trip to Porto- our first. The amazing staff and the beautiful townhouse as well as the great walkable neighborhood made us fall in love and we planned another night there right away. I cannot say enough about how comfortable the townhouse is. Details are well attended to and the staff is outstanding. We will be back!

We loved this Hotel. It's quirky & creaky & leaves us with fabulous memories. Our room was a great size with a balcony looking out over the garden of the hotel and the back gardens of the neighbourhood properties. The staff were brilliant and so friendly. We were given great Restaurant Recommendations by P at the Hotel and all within reasonable walking distance of the Hotel. We even witnessed one of the boys helping a fellow Guest track down his lost luggage. He was so helpful. Thank-you all at Rosa et Al, sometimes it's not easy but you made our stay a lovely, happy memory.

The location is very good as you can easily walk from here into the city. The house is definitely charming but as it is an old house that also comes with quite some noise from the other rooms and traffic, especially because the floors and shower make quite some noise. So if you sleep light this might be an issue. |The staff of the hotel is wonderful as well as the breakfast.|For the price you pay I would have expected something better and would not book it again.

My husband and I stayed at Rose Et Al for 4 nights and absolutely loved the experience. The staff were kind and helpful, the space was beautiful—just like the photos—and incredibly comfortable (the clawfoot tub was such a treat after a long day of exploring the city!). The food, drinks, and coffee in the café were all delicious. We were thrilled to call this place home for a few days.
