10 Best Coffee Shops in Venice

"The wide sidewalk along the towering side of the basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo serves as strolling avenue, improvised soccer pitch, and toddler-run. It’s also where Rosa Salva, a classic café, sets out its tables—a lovely place for breakfast, a lunchtime sandwich, or an early-evening aperitivo. The bill outside will be higher than the exact same bill inside, but good ice cream makes this café popular with local parents and kids, and its coffee is strong. And its location makes it a haven for weary visitors with sore feet." - Anne Hanley

Overall a pleasant stay! Room is well equipped with all the necessities. Mini bar is amazing and complementary. Pastries at the bakery on the ground floor are amazing. Location is superb to major attractions and water bus stations. Lots of great restaurants in the proximity. Highly recommended for families who would like to stay together in one room.

With so many hotels in Venice I was concerned about choosing “the right one” for our one night stay. Rosa Salva was in a perfect location with a short walk to all the major attractions. The staff at the front desk was knowledgeable, professional, and I never felt “rushed” when asking questions. The room itself was clean and spacious. The bed was also very comfortable oh and the air conditioning was perfect. Never once did I have to bring out my fan :) The little pastry shop was an added treat especially to grab a snack to eat on the plane that morning! Be prepared in the morning for it to be crowded! Both my husband and I stated we would stay at Rosa Salva again!!

This hotel is amazing! Located right off San Marco Piazza, it is in the heart of the San Marco area of Venice. Walking distance to the Rialto Bridge and other historical sites, vapertto station, restaurants and shops. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They answered my questions before we arrived. The rooms are modern with ample space as well as a nice bathroom. There is a pastry shop attached to the hotel that has great coffee and Italian pastries! This was the second time we have stayed here and I would stay here again when visiting Venice, as it has a great location.

There are 2 properties at Rosa Salva, 1- hotel with reception 2- suites only 1 minute walk from the main hotel. We stayed at a 1 bedroom suite, our unit had a full kitchen. Very clean and modern unit, plenty of space to sit around and relax. Water, yogurt and juice bottles are complementary and replenished daily. Very nice touch.|Reception was very helpful, friendly and provided accurate information. they can arrange for transportation and porter as needed. |For our departure, we went to airport with private taxi, went to San Marco Square - much easier to get to than Rialto bridge. Only one bridge to cross. Plenty of taxi no issues to find one. |Hotel is very central, surrounded by shops and restaurants. I recommend Rosa Salva coffee shop with fresh bakery. Hotel guests get 10 percent discount - another bonus.

Great central location and neat, comfortable rooms. The air conditioning is centrally controlled so the fan can be noisy and you can't do anything. The rooms are pretty compact although you still get a good sized shower. There's an attempt to still give you a breakfast of sorts but it's not really worth it to be honest. The historic cafe next door is a great experience, delicious pastry and coffee to start a day of exploring Venice and you get a little discount for staying at the hotel.

Room: Our room was the least expensive and it was very compact, even for Europe but, with old buildings, there's only so much you can do. The bed was perfectly comfortable and took up the majority of the room. There was barely space to walk around it. When we closed the windows, you could barely hear any noise coming in and we were able to get a good sleep. It was all very clean. ||Bathroom: Proportionately small. The shower was really nice with a waterfall showerhead. ||Location: If you've never been to Venice, one of the really fun/frustrating things is how winding and almost maze-like it can be. We were able to take the water taxi from the train station to Saint Marc's plaza and then it was a short walk to the hotel but sat nav was sometimes sketchy just due to the architecture. We only took one wrong turn and quickly righted ourselves. If you are walking and pulling a roller bag, be ready to heft it over all the small bridges. Hopefully, if you're going to Venice, you're expecting that! ||Staff: Front desk was friendly. Offered suggestions. Answered questions. We didn't interact with anyone else.||General: They offer a discount for the cafe that shares the entrance and there is a small dining room for residents only. ||We'd like to go back and, I would stay at Rosa Salva again but splurge on a bigger room!

Excellent location and from San Marco to hotel only need to cross one bridge with suitcases. About a seven minute walk but took us longer. Room is smaller than expected. There is water, yogurt and juice in fridge room free. We were on third floor facing street and it was quiet later at night. Air conditioning on off need to call lobby to turn it on or off. We liked it especially the cafe Rosa Salva next door. The restaurant across from hotel is really good food! Highly recommend.

Google
We stopped for a coffee and air-conditioned space :). Lovely restaurant with a large selection of sweet and savory snacks. In the late morning, we had coffee and cake but came back for pasta 😋 with fish and aperol spritz. Good food at a very reasonable price, quick service, and lovely space to catch your breath while visiting San Marco.

Yelp
I don't usually ask for suggestions, but with so many choices exploring would've taken a year. So I asked the concierge to recommend a local quick snack location. It was Amazing. The service was top-notch. The food was excellent. The ambience was inviting and totally natural. People going to work executives, shop owners, and a spec of tourist. Sandwiches are sold by the half so you can enjoy and mix and match. The pasta is fresh delicious and perfect little energy boost for walking around the city and climbing the small bridges. My recommendation is to grab your meal at the counter, sit down, enjoy but relax. The locals pick up after themselves, so did we. Then afterwards stroll over to the counter get yourself your favorite coffee, drink, and pick out one of the delectable finger cookies or pastries, and stand up and enjoy like the locals do. If I could give this place six stars I would. Going back over the next several days while here in Venice.

Yelp
Tiramisu was decent, light, creamy with a nice coffee flavor. Staff was not very friendy

Melinda H.

Yelp
Not a very friendly exchange while ordering. We got pastries and coffee to go (to take back to kids). We decided to drink our coffee at the outside tables and take a bite of pastry.... Only to have a server come tell us "we can't sit at their table because it's a different price." And they say Americans are rude. Pastries were fine but nothing to rave over. Check TripAdvisor reviews...everyone agrees this place is rude.

Yelp
super wide range of pastries to choose from. we came for breakfast around 10 and it was already very busy. but the staff was efficient and mostly helpful. the pistachio cream puff was amazing. tiramisu was fine but not amazing. generally a good stop if a little stressful

Yelp
Got my two morning pastries here and enjoyed them both. The flaky one on the left had minimal cream, but the zabaione cream on the right was quite copious.

Yelp
Rosa Salva is a cut above the tourist trap "bakeries" you'll find dotting Venice, and it came recommended by our hotel. That said, it's totally a chain, not some privately owned, led-by-an-artisan, locally famous paradise. My mother and I munched on chocolate and plain croissants. It was 8:00 on a Saturday, well before the town woke up, and the staff were already girding for an intense day, which bled over into the ambiance. Fun fact: I learned here that a pain au chocolat and a "chocolate croissant" aren't necessarily the same thing! The latter is a chocolate cream inside a plain croissant, not dissimilar from something you'd eat in a donut.

Yelp
Enjoyed my refreshing coffee slushie - can't remember the name. Seating is tight but you won't be rushed. This place came really recommended from numerous sources and can't say it was worth going out of the way to visit but nice if you happen to stop in!

Yelp
Cute sitdown cafe and bakery, though service was terrible. Tried a few cakes and espresso, as well as a fruit tart, which was the best of everything we tried. Also bought some biscotti to go.

Yelp
Pastries were deelish. Service was great. Pistachio cream puff- 5 stars Cream puff - 4 stars Great location not far from Rialto bridge.
google avatar

Kin K.

Yelp
The most delicious pastries in Venice! They make fresh pastry everyday, ranging from croissants to Italian treats. Also serve delicious coffee & fresh squeezed orange juice. Must try!

Yelp
This is a great little spot to grab a quick hot chocolate. Not best traditional kind you would expect in Venice. But if your walking about and encounter this spot might as well. Service is like a fast food spot. Grab and go.
google avatar

Yelp
Basic pastry shop that tourists come and go. Food is touristy and overpriced. Service is for tourists/ generic. Ambiance is a more fancier Au Bon Pan. Went here to get a hot chocolate as we were doing our night walks- definitely not the authentic kind you would want. What do you expect out of desperation. Good thing though it's close to Rialto bridge.

Yelp
These desserts were so yummy!!! Love the lemon custard in the fruit tart! Very friendly staff as well and it's a great location!

Yelp
Great spot in the heart of Venice. Have a half sandwich and a cold drink inside or at the bar height tables in the sidewalk. Mix of locals and tourists. I had a half tuna sandwich and a coca zero. All for about 5 euro. And a nice seat outside enjoying the people passing by. Bathroom is clean. Service is good.

Yelp
Rosa Salva is tough to find on googlemaps, so do yourself a favor and ask a local. its very close to St. Marks Square. Its centrally located and accessible to most things around. Friendly staff, awesome pastries and breakfast things along with great coffee and espresso. Stand up at the bar like the locals to avoid the sitting charge which is customary in Venice in many restaurants and coffee shops. Prices are a little more expensive than other coffee shops but you get what you pay for.

Yelp
I have a confession. I made a total faux pas today and accidentally perpetuated the stereotype of a tacky American tourist. My sister brought me to Rosa Salva to get some tiramisu. At first I thought it was just a pastry shop because everything looked so beautifully prepared. Then I noticed they also had sandwiches and other savoy foods as well. As my sister was paying, I saw there were some small bowls sitting out on the counter. Three of the bowls contained dips, and there were two bowls of bread and two of chips. No sign, no price, nothing. Coming from America, the land of free samples, I instantly just figured these were set out for people to try. I had already spread my second dip "sample" when an employee behind the counter says to me: "Miss, you cannot do that. The food is not free." I froze. OOPS!!! I had no idea what to do. I spied a garbage can and threw out the piece of bread in my hand, then called out "Sorry!" and made a hasty retreat from the shop. Luckily we'd already asked for the tiramisu to takeaway. Now as for the tiramisu, it was okay but not my favorite. Again, maybe I'm just an uncultured American who can't appreciate an authentic Italian version of tiramisu, but honestly it was kind of bland and didn't really have any distinctive flavor of coffee or chocolate. I'm also more used to the variation of tiramisu where you can taste the liquor, which this one didn't have. In the end, faux pas or not, I wouldn't return here for the tiramisu. Try one of the other tasty-looking options instead.

Yelp
This was a wonderful find while walking the streets of Venice. It was a cool December afternoon and we were looking for a place to rest from shopping and grab some hot tea. This was it! The ordering area is fast paced and many customers drink their coffee at the bar. We selected to sit and watch the people traffic. It does appear to be a stop for local shop owners or workers for a break. We also selected a few pastries and enjoyed them all. There were also selections of sandwiches as well. For those from the States that order hot chocolate, the consistency is that of warmed chocolate pudding. Very thick but tasty. We enjoyed our rest and the warm drinks and treats. Make sure if you are in the area to stop by and give them a try. Take care.

Yelp
slow service, pricey + croissants were dry. nice ambiance and good hot chocolate. also disorganized table service

Yelp
The quality of their pastries and coffee selection is out of this world. The location is in the central San Marcos area, which is perfect. A good way to start the day off with a fresh cup of coffee and any pastry of your choice. Glad I went as early as 9am. It's definitely upscale and really cool clear chairs. Lots of available seats and long tables to find. They maintain this space well. The staff were quick and efficient. What more can you ask for in a bakery? Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wow. Wonderful pastry and coffee and well worth a trip down the walkways of Venice. Full of locals grabbing a bite

Yelp
Delicious and refreshing lunch with sandwiches and pasta salad! Looking forward to going back!

Yelp
Super busy around breakfast early brunch time. Customer service isn't their best but this little cafe is amazing. Their espressos and cappuccinos are strong and so are their pastries. (For their americano, you can add your own water). I saw a man come in here and order 15 pastries to take with him to go.

Yelp
It's hard to find a place for breakfast in Italy, when you don't want pasta or paninis for breakfast! This is a cute bakery cafe with lots to choose from. It's very busy but it was worth the mayhem. I enjoyed several pastries with my coffee and my husband got some croissant sandwiches. The staff didn't flinch with the crowd and the line went fast.

Yelp
Great place for a Cappuccino and pastry, also great to have a cocktail and nibbles in the afternoon. Not the best sit down spot, but if your someone like me that loves to stand at the bar and watch life go by, this isn't a bad spot.

Yelp
There aren't many good places to have both coffee and freshly baked pastries and sweets on the main center island (San Marco) of Venice, but someone recommended this place to me, and it was great. We stopped in for an afternoon coffee on a rainy Saturday in February. It was crowded (a good sign), but not super packed, nor overwhelmingly rammed with tourists. The inside of the cafe is quite wide, so there's lots of counter space by the registers and the big glass cases housing the sweets and pastries, as well some small standing counters on the opposite wall facing the street. They also have 3 or so small rows of tables where you can actually sit down, though there can't be more than 15-20 seats maximum, and it will be very cozy if you find space. The hot chocolate was one of the best I've ever had (real melted chocolate), just about on par with famous Caffè Florian in Piazza San Marco, but 1/3 the cost...maybe even less. There's a full selection of pastries and sweets--the same menu more or less as the other serious bakeries in town--plus chocolates, candied dried fruit and other assorted goodies. The turnover is quick with service to match, but the staff were friendly and nice. Pretty casual inside, but still a very nice place, and I will definitely seek it out and hopefully come back many more times in the future.
