"Final Resting Place for Notable Macon Residents Rose Hill Cemetery's winding pathways serve as the final resting place for Macon's most well known residents. The lush cemetery served as inspiration for the Allman Brothers Band, and both Duane Allman and Berry Oakley are buried here. Their graves sit behind a fence to protect the site after years of fans stopping by. Also buried here is Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald, founder of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority."

A very interesting cemetery with a lot of history. It was created when the city realized that the City Cemetery (see my review) would not be adequate for their growth. The terrain is very hilly and the roadways are tight. It contains notable people from the 1800's to the present, including Greg & Duane Allman, Confederate soldiers and separate sections for different faiths. I could have spent much more time there and plan to return one day.

Very tight driving spaces and hard to maneuver this place, but this cemetery is my second favorite after Bonaventure. Beautiful marbled statues and mausoleums. The place was so large and hot that I could barely see a fraction of it. The best plan is to park outside and walk in, but if you come to see Duane Allman grave drive down and park by the train tracks. Also, humans make good food for plants and wildflowers

Beautiful and full of history. Many, many historically local, state, and national figures and families are here. Well maintained. Great walking areas, especially if you like hills! Great architecture and really transports you back in time! Duane and Gregg Allman are buried there. It's definitely worth a visit.

Founded in 1840, features the graves of confederate soldiers, politicians, and The famous Greg Allman and his two brothers. The upkeep is disappointing.

Wanted to walk around Macon today after work and decided first on The River Walk Park with accompanying Heritage Trail. I don’t really recommend that walk, interesting but decided to check out this cemetery. Very peaceful, tranquil, beautiful, and historical here. Many gorgeous plots Of people from the 19th and 20th centuries laid to rest here. Many paths to walk along and admire the stone and marble headstones, pillars, and obelisks. Much attention to detail in these carvings as well as the iron works surrounding the plots. If you do choose to come here, please be mindful and quiet in respect to people there, both in this world and the other world.

The best peaceful place to understand the importance of the history of Macon County. Since 1840 the cemetery looks in great condition and clean. Excellent place to walk around and see how important these people are to the city.

Rose Hill Cemetery is an iconic piece of Georgia history! From Confederate gravesites to the Catholic & Jewish sections of this cemetery to the ever popular Allman Brothers Band members headstones, this place is a must to visit. Their most recent project is identifying the burial sites of Black slaves in the Oak Ridge section. This is an incredible undertaking that requires much research & dedication & is so exciting to see happen. Wherever I travel, I always visit graveyards b/c I love history; I’m fascinated by the names, nicknames, epitaphs, statuary & often clues about a community/town/city that a graveyard tells. Rose Hill features fabulous walking paths & views across a vast 50+ acre swath of land. The Cemetery Foundation’s commitment to renovation + teaching history PLUS teaching about renovation/preservation is unparalleled. Over the last 10 years, I’ve been here many times & look forward to attending an event soon!

Beautiful cemetery. So much history. Gregg Allman, his brother and another band member are buried here. Worth the trip if you're passing through Macon. They hung out here by the railroad tracks and wrote many of their songs.
