Our visit to Placentia had been long anticipated, and we had high hopes of our booked accommodation. However, how could we know that the Rosedale, and our hosts, Lori and Chris, would break all records in comfort, friendliness, generosity and kindness? This lovely old house and its even lovelier owners should be receiving awards from Tourism Canada or equivalent for their promotion of Newfoundland character and hospitality. Lori is a brilliant hostess, and her breakfast hampers are without peer in my experience. Nothing was too much trouble for Chris, a mine of information about virtually everything. His beautiful artworks create an ambiance in the house, a visual encyclopaedia of the island. Our visit was very special to us owning to family connections - an ancestor having served at the Castle Hill Fort in the 1770s, and we wanted it to be special, meaningful and memorable. Lori and Chris went far beyond their duty as hosts to help us to realise our dream, and they could not have made it better. Chris provided me with generous assistance in my researching the Fort, and as we did not have a vehicle, he took us with him when he went to work there... so kind, as it is quite a haul up that hill for old legs.|Thank you, you lovely people, for everything you did to make our visit one of the best experiences of our lives. We will definitely be back, though it's a long way from New Zealand!
