I live about 3 blocks from this Rosemont and it's my least favorite. It's just so tiny, and small isn't always bad (save your jokes!), but it feels like they made the store fit too small a space, and there's too many things in too small a store. I know that location has to do a lot with this: obviously stores in Cape Elizabeth and on Brighton Ave have cheaper rents and more room to build, but if this is really to be the only one in the West End, I wish they could have held out for something a little larger.
Similar to other Rosemonts, the selection is small but good and the essentials are there. If you happen to hit upon a quiet afternoon with just a couple other shoppers, you might just happily peruse the aisles and not notice a thing. If you happen to visit when it's busy, for me, often after work, it's claustrophobic and I cannot believe I haven't knocked a bottle of wine over with my ass yet, trying to squeeze by people. It seems somewhat open when you first walk in near the counter, but as you go back towards the meat and cheese counter, it seems like it sort of bottlenecks. If you're in line to order some meats for instance, and someone is trying to get the soup, it can take some effort to get out of their way... and the same if you're either trying to make a really hard decision on what beer you want to drink and people are trying to get by, or you are trying to get by someone in a similar dilemma. (I am a beer drinker and I generally buy at OhNo as they have that on lockdown, but if you drink wine, this place has a massive selection. I think 1/4 of the store might be just wine, though I'm not the person to comment on prices or quality).
Like most of the Rosemonts, the staff here is super nice and generally helpful (especially at all of the meat/cheese counters for whatever reason??).
I feel like a yuppie douche even complaining about this place, because it is nice to have in the neighborhood, I just wish it was a bit easier to navigate. If I'm home and looking for walking distance, I'll roll by here or Fresh Approach, but if I'm coming from work I always go out of my way a bit to go to the Commercial Street Rosemont, perhaps my favorite.
Sooo, the sage advice ending here is... I'll keep coming here for necessities when I can handle it, but know that getting some chimichurri, soppressata, and an orange at 5:30pm on a weekday may require pirouetting through the store like Tom Cruise dodging lasers in Mission Impossible.
