"I also walked the ruins of the old castle on the surrounding hills and found them an equally good treat—pleasant to explore as part of a day trip that combines the chapel and the grounds." - Matthew Kepnes
It's a ruin of a castle, but if keep that in mind, it is really beautiful and impressive. I recommend the visit if your around, specially if are visiting the chapel, at it is very close to one another.

The path leading down to the ruins is a little rough , especially with a wheelchair. Large holes are present. The bridge walkway leading to the ruins is pretty, but there are private signs on display, so not much further can be walked. The views were nice from the ruins with steep drops.

Just a short walk from Rosslyn Chapel, these ruins are well worth a visit. While not much remains of the castle, the bridge to the entrance has commanding views of the glen and right now the autumn colors are nothing short of fantastic. The path can get a bit boggy in certain areas but it is a short easy walk down and back from the chapel car park. The grounds are privately owned so please be respectful.

Recent refurbishment and it looks great for it. Amazing views and even better walks from the castle area. Also very close to Roslin chapel.
A short distance is Rosslyn woods with a stream and picnic benches.

It’s mostly in ruins and the good part of the castle is private property

Beautiful castle which is situated 5 minutes away from Rosslyn chapel. Both worth a visit. Also not far from here is the old gunpowder mill which was an outlander filming location, and also Wallace cave. Roslin Glen has plenty to see and makes for a great day out. Nestled in a beautiful country park, it definitely has the visual and atmosphere appeal! Trails can get boggy, but the walks are really nice around the castle to get unique perspectives of parts of the ruins. Keep in mind that the walks on the castle side of the river can be especially steep and muddy after rains.
