Yelp
First, if the kind reader is *thinking* of going to this Röststätte location, I highly recommend instead, going around the corner to the Kastanienallee address - the other Röststätte - where the people behind the counter have remembered, not forgotten, customer service. There it's a younger group of people -who also speak good english as a plus- more in touch and less 'aloof' with 'ost-steinkopf'/'owner-symptom'. The improved environment makes the experience of enjoying the coffee etc. much easier on the stomach.
The coffees are rare varieties as well as the more usual. A treat is the AeroPress Kenia or whatever is on offer, enjoyed by two.
Also (usually, morning to noon) has almond-based, gluten (and grain) free cookies, which are just right in sweetness. Although lately they've been out.

Longer review:
After seeing a video interview posted by steve leighton {hasbean coffee UK, in my mug episode 255}, where he visits the shop and converses with the operators, we were excited to try this apparently special coffee shop; only to be disappointed by the forgetful, poor-quality service.
Enticing on the other side of the archway connecting the brewing with the equipment, is an entire possibility of ways to brew coffee, twice the size of the seating area. Filled with all of the best brewing equipment from single brew home use on-up, AeroPress, etc - this elevated our enthusiasm while the indifferent attitude of the people operating the counter sunk it farther than the displays of finery increased it.
As the only other Yelp commenter (auf deutsch/german) writes: he was enjoying the last sunny days of the year, the 19th of october... and it WAS a beautiful day. Google Translate does a decent job of giving an idea, unfortunately a bug in the Yelp app means it's impossible to translate his review on a smartphone... Since I am using a laptop to write this, and can see what he wrote, I basically support his review.
IN OUR CASE, We were in a similar situation as he, and similarly visited around the same time. {Due to the Qype-Yelp transition, it was not really possible to easily leave a comment at that time though.} We had missed meeting Steve the day of the Berlin marathon, and excitedly wanted to try a roastery he seemed to endorse.
Unfortunately, as people generally in the 'east' when assumed to be in some kind of service position, have an outstanding reputation generally for amazingly-bad customer service, this place's people were no exception and I honestly don't expect it to change. Completely ignoring us almost, with no one else in the shop, maybe one other order happening, too caught up in some prattle.
It's a pity because technically, the coffees presented and technical method of presentation are the best - technically. Customer service was so abysmal after our experience at the Ackerstraße shop, and we were left with such an empty feeling, that I didn't order the speciality coffees; instead having the bright idea to take us to the other shop, and IT WAS MUCH BETTER. Take a lesson - you terrible, terrible so-called owners!
We were rewarded with very good service by several attentive people at the Kastanienallee shop. The barista there, now on two occasions, was professional, knowledgeable, and most of all, friendly. There was also another woman behind the counter who was helpful.
