Extraordinary settings, especially for the portion of the trail along the coast but... it is not enough to slap trail markers along roads used for other purposes to create a trail: too many of the miles/kms are either on paved roads or on dirt roads primarily used by forestry vehicles. For example the section between São Teotónio and Odeceixe, which is billed as a "memorable trekking day, where you will walk along inhospitable trails covered with well preserved native vegetation" is largely on super wide forestry roads in the middle of horrible eucalyptus plantations, where you are walking on a 5 to 10 meters wide band of scrapped earth that looks like a lunar landscape, or on the side of a fairly busy paved road where cars and trucks zip by at 100 km/hr. This is also true in other sections, such as the loop to the coast line from Odeceixe, where the majority of the walking is down on a wide dirt road used by motor homes and other tourist vehicles. This is really too bad, because the scenery is truly spectacular and this would be one of the best trails I have ever walked if more of the hiking was on old, little used farm roads or on dedicated walking-only trails.
