15 Best Bars in Charlotte

"The Roxbury, a legendary Charlotte nightclub, specializes in ‘80s and ‘90s music that promises to get even the most timid wallflowers up and dancing. Music videos stream on TVs around the space, letting you reminisce about your wayward hairstyles, fashion choices, and one-hit wonders of years past. The dance floor downstairs—dark, loud, and crowded—will remind you of college house parties. If you're an '80s baby or just appreciate the music—and big hair—of decades past, you'll love it here." - Lauren Levine

Really cool place that will bring back memories. Just go and you won't regret it! UPDATE 2021 visit We went the again for our anniversary this year. Still loved this place. Just FYI, we reserved a VIP table upstairs when we got there and it was $80 for the night. It was very nice to know we had a comfy booth to go back to after dancing for a bit. We got there about 9 and had no problem getting the table. They have updated some of their furnishings which was very nice touch. Willa add more pics soon.

The people working at the entrance were rude and had an attitude like they didn't want to be there. Not a good way to get people hyped up upon entry. The $10 cover charge was excessive for what this place actually has to offer in terms of aesthetics. Everything felt gross, and I didn't want to touch anything. Bathrooms were nasty, bar seems like a biohazard just looking at it. Half of the games didn't work in the arcade area. They are also scammy about coat service and try their hardest to take your coat without telling you they're going to charge you $2 if you leave your coat with them. Dance floor doesn't open up until 10:30, however they didn't have this area blocked off earlier in the night, so when my group tried walking down the steps, everyone working there started aggressively yelling at us that the downstairs wasn't open, almost like we should have known? Except there was no sign out. Not our fault. Not a very hospitable place, I won't be coming back or recommending it to anyone. Only decent thing was the drink prices. Seems to have potential and a following, they just need to work on attitudes and aesthetics.

I went last night for my 49th birthday and had THE best time! One of the girls in my group reserved a VIP table and told them what we were coming for. From the time we walked up to the door I was treated like a superstar. They knew my name and was waiting on my arrival. I was made to feel very special on my day and the music hit all night. I will definitely have to go back! Thanks for a great night!!!

First time at the Roxbury and it was the most fun I’ve had at a nightclub. The music was awesome and the drinks were strong. It was super crowded down stairs which surprised me but I wasn’t bothered by it. We got there at 11:30 and waited maybe 5 minutes to get in. We were there until the placed closed down. If you know your 80s/90s stuff then this is the place for you. I also loved the fact that there was a patio up stairs if you needed some fresh air. Will definitely be going back soon!

Based on the recommendations of a couple of friends I decided to celebrate my birthday here on a Friday night. It was my first time and most of my friends first time coming here but we all enjoyed it and had a fun night! Everything is 80s/90s themed including the decor and drink names. It's two floors with a bar on each floor, there is a dance floor downstairs and more of a seated area on the main floor but you can hear the music anywhere. They also have a large patio area with another bar and seating which is where we spent the last hour of the night once we got too warm inside (they had free cups of water outside too). It isn't your typical club scene which was a breath of fresh air, we weren't bothered by anyone throughout the night and everyone there seemed pretty cool and relaxed. The DJ takes requests (80s/90s music of course) and did play the songs we requested. Overall it was a really cool place that I would go back to anytime! The cover was $5 on a Friday. The only negative was that the mixed specialty drinks were a bit pricey and not strong. They had some drink specials but nothing too appealing to my friends and I. Also, it's 21+ only for anyone that's wondering. My sister wasn't able to celebrate with me because of that, I figured it would be 18+ based on the theme of the club and it wasn't advertised anywhere online.

I LOOOOVED this club! Haven’t had this much fun at a club in a long time! Everyone is super friendly and nice! The bartenders and staff are really nice people! And the DJ (Jody) played AMAZING 80s and 90s music! I will definitely be coming back!

First time at the Roxbury and it was the best time I've had at a club. The music was marvelous and the beverages were solid. It was really packed down steps which astonished me however I wasn't annoyed by it. We arrived at 11:30 and stood by perhaps 5 minutes to get in. We were there until the set shut down. Assuming you know your 80s/90s stuff this is the best spot for you. I likewise adored the way that there was a deck up steps in the event that you required some outside air. Will be returning soon!

Yelp
My cousin really wanted to hit a club.....so we ended up here. We got there before the line got too long. I was not prepared for the 2 security checks and the 10 cover charge(she paid). There is a cost check if needed during the cold months. The club is actually well laid out with multiple sections depending on the vibe you are looking for. I wish it was warmer to enjoy the patio though I would have to dodge the smokers. If clubs are your thing, then this place is for you.

The place felt safe since it had security everywhere making sure everyone felt comfortable and safe! Thank you for the awesome night!

Yelp
Haven't been here for more than 10 years. Just went there for a Tuesday night of dance and drink. The place is the same, full of Latin music for salsa, bachata and merengue. The hours was from 9 pm to 2 am as adv. There's a $10 admission fee. Drinks were reasonable. My friends said beer was $4 while I had special cocktails for $6. Bar tender James adjusted the alcohol level for me since I said I just need a little favor only. I did have a couple of drinks and a soda for other friends. My bill looked very affordable. At around 9:45 pm, a couple of professional dancer Wendy & Rodrigo arrived. They gave a free dancing class to everyone there. We all have fun. Was told that they just reopened after this pandemic. They would have snacks. Remember this place used to be packed with people. Full of music and fun. For sure I'll come again. The only downside of the area is parking. If you can't find a free street parking, there're parkings around for about $10.

Yelp
I do not recommend this place. We paid $130+ for "VIP" and "open bar" but there was only one line for the "open bar" which every other person in there was in line for. If you wanted drinks from the other bars (that conveniently had no wait) you'd have to pay. It was overcrowded, packed, nasty and the floor was disgusting. I would not waste my money here ever again.

Yelp
Waiting outside the line off Roxbury to enter the nightclub was about 15 min wait. Dress code is enforced so I advise to look like a real man or a bad B$&@). Entrance paid off and literally Dj-J was slapping it with the reggae Latin music on one side. The other side was bar area and the 2nd Dj was playing even better music of our age of all was fun. Patio area had another bar area if it got to full to get drinks outside good to catch your breath and smoke a cigarette. Loved the vibes here really had a time of my life I am looking forward to come again on Saturday night thank you.

Yelp
Nothing bad really to say here expect it was hot as hell and I had to pay a $10 cover charge when I arrive to the club upon opening. Get your Meg knees ready to walk up some stairs before you get into the club and when you make it to the top , there is coat check. The atmosphere was super cute and picture worthy for you and your girls. Djs we're on point on both sides of the club and I really appreciate the combination of music. A little bit of hip hop, Latin music, and throwbacks. Dance floors were packed but they have an outdoor patio you can view the city lights and cool off.

Yelp
This place was fun. We came to Latin night to dance and have a good time. The music was awesome. The place has so many great picture walls . The patio was nice and spacious.Next time I'm in town I will be back.

Yelp
Good service with the bartenders but Got kicked out while I was walking to the restroom because they thought I was someone else

Alicia M.

Yelp
BEWARE OF THE RESTROOM ATTENDENT. She yelled at my friend for cleaning up her self and dropping a few droplets of water after she offered to clean herself. People are creeps and music is okay. Drinks are fairly priced.

Yelp
Honestly for a latin club there was hella and i mean HELLA white people the dj was meh af. If the club is meant to be latin why tf you playing apple bottom jeans lmao. Had to switch sides of the club numerous times because of the amount of times the dj was playing american music! I might have yawned a few times and im not joking. Had a better time hyping myself up for the club before we even went‍

Yelp
This will be my shortest review probably ever!!!! But the DJ is HORRIBLE!!!!! So many people left this venue. One side is Urban music the other side is Latin music. Either way this place sucks and it's a Saturday night at 11:55pm

Brandy W.

Yelp
We only went here because Roxbury was closed. $10 cover. $5 to have your coat held. The bar beverage choices were limited - cheap domestic beer and jack & coke. The music is loud. There are 2 DJs playing competing music across from each other. There were very few good danceable songs played. The majority of the music was Latin music. It was mostly 20's getting wasted and stupid. Still had fun, but would've been awesome if the music was good. The patio was lovely when you got too hot from dancing.

Yelp
This place was a little trashy, but if you are 18 looking for one of the only clubs to go to then this is your place. This is one of the only +18 clubs in charlotte that are not just exclusive to thursday's. It is a hispanic club, so get your dancing shoes on. Me and my friends had a good time, but there were lots of creepy old men so we probably won't be back.

Yelp
My daughter was home from College and went to Tequila House with her friends on March 9th, 2019. Her and one of her friends checked there coats together. My daughters friend held the coat ticket and could not find it at the end of the night. My daughters keys were in her friends coat pocket. They would not let her get her jacket back along with her friend since they did not have there ticket. Nobody would help them out. No keys to drive home. No jackets and it was cold and windy that night. Rained some also. The staff said they would not let them describe the jacket or the keys and to come back tomorrow(When they are closed)! I sent emails. I left voicemails because no one would answer. No one has replied even to this day. The other parent of my daughters friend was able to get in touch and they have lost her child's jacket. My daughters jacket is supposed to still be there. Of course there are no keys. Poor management. I realize they are trying to protect someone else's property from being stolen, but there needs to be someway to get the coats and jackets back without feeding them a line of bull about come back tomorrow when we are closed and doors are locked out front. Nobody answers the phone, etc. Just figured I would pass this on.

Yelp
I'm puertorican and i visit this area frequently and absolutely love this place. I like that they play a lot of Spanish music and some hip-hop songs occasionally a few techno hits. The drinks are fairly priced and it's not too expensive to get in either I've been here a bunch of times Fridays and Saturdays back to back and no complaints on my end the first time I came here was December 2019 If you're looking to have a good time definitely go here

Yelp
It's a really nice place and when there is a lot of people it's lit. They play a mix of Spanish music and popular rap/dance songs.

Yelp
The building is fairly small compared to the typical club. The layout is fairly nice with two dance floors, two bars, and an outdoor area. The club is overly strict and the staff is very rude. One of our friends was badly denied entry at the door and throughout the night the staff was unpleasant. I do not recommend.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to give this place a try. First, they checked our IDs outside and gave us a bracelet to wear. I thought this was kind of strange but not a big deal. We then walked upstairs. There was a cover - $5 per person. They then give you a little ticket and you have to give it to the bouncer to let you in. In the first room, there was only about 20 people. To be honest, I can't remember what type of music they were playing in this room. We decided to walk in the back and go to the next room. This was a total change of pace. This room was packed and extremely hot but the music was on point. It was all reggaetón and latino music which is a plus for me. However, my friend and I kept getting approached by these 2 specifics guys that would not leave us alone. One looked like he was on his way home from the gym and decided to stop here. He would literally come up to us and we'd move but he'd come find us again. He didn't say anything and would just try to dance with one of us. The other looked like he spent his day at the pool. He seemed to be rather intoxicated and kept trying to touch me and my friend. Eventually, I pushed him and the bouncer wound up kicking him out. We actually didn't order any drinks while we were here so not sure how they are priced or if they are any good. We stayed for about an hour or so. I don't think I would come back unless I was really drunk and wanted to dance.

Roy B.

Yelp
They let a few Latin girls who were 15 years old in and I overheard them say they do it all the time. The African American bouncers are really cool too. They let us take our Heinekens outside the front door.

Yelp
This review is for Thursday's latin night. We arrived before 11 pm for Latin night on Thursdays. The bouncer talked to me as I originally passed by to go to another club. He was so convincing that, when that other club didn't work out, we came back to Tequila House. Anyway, when we ended up back here, it was still plenty early, so while my male friend did indeed get a pat-down, we also got in free and staked our claim on the dance floor before it got too crowded. I came to dance so was totally stoked by the mix of salsa, bachata, reggaeton, and latin house that was on. I had many formative years in So Cal, and really loved what was playing. I didn't pause for even a single song--which is saying a lot because I'm freaking old for this club! I'm way over 30, so at 12:30 when they turned the volume up, I could tell and had to beat it the heck out of there. I normally bring earplugs to these things, but didn't this time so it ended up being a fairly early night. Oh well, we had a great time and will absolutely be back. Beats the heck out of La Revolucion's creepy club, even though that place has way more space and dance lessons, because of the location and the constantly revolving mix of music. I can't comment at all on what happens after 1a, as i turned in to a pumpkin, but I would recommend you find out for yourself and let me know. And bring earplugs if you're over 30. Not kidding. Seriously. At all.

Nancy V.

Yelp
I love this place! Great when club hopping in uptown drinks are fairly priced music is good and the crowd gets crazy but in a fun way!
