Epic times with Harley Flanagan from the Cro Mags with his film, Wired For Chaos. If you get to see it, you'll be amazed at how the Hardcore Punk scene was in NYC. There is so much history listening to him talk. So much knowledge.

The Roxy Theater is a small screening room located within the beautiful Roxy Hotel. The theater is downstairs on the same level as Django jazz club (another great place to hang). These days there are IMAX, 4DX, and other high-tech types of film formats all over the place, but this is a throwback to a small, basic screen, and is perfect for the type of films typically shown here (in this case it was the Japanese lo-fi/comedy/satire ‘Hot Springs Shark Attack’, which was stupid funny). There’s a small concession stand where you can also buy tkts (of course you can buy tkts online). There’s usually only one person working the concession stand, so there’s often a bit of a line. Overall, I really love this theater for the type of films they show (lots of indies and foreign films), and the chilled, elegant environment. I can’t say enough about this movie theater. It’s just a fabulously cool environment.

For the love of god, PLEASE put some WD-40 on the door to the auditorium (and maybe some kind of curtain, too?) so we don't have to hear squeaking hinges and see a blast of light from the lobby every two minutes as someone walks in/out right next to the screen. They offer a solid lineup, but the experience isn't good. The theater shares a lobby with some kind of basement lounge, and you have to walk through a hotel lobby full of drunk people doing Instagram photoshoots.

Amazing hidden Jem theater! I went to see Padre Pio on Friday night. Small room but classic. A little thing I wish they have better blind to cover the door. People are walk in and out during the movie and I was interrupted by them. The theater is in basement of Roxy hotel and more than just cinema, I entertain by the interesting cozy vibe of all bars and decoration. I don't really hang out in the area so much, now I will probably be checking out Tribeca more.

Here's my short poem about Roxy Movie Theater NYC: "In Tribeca's heart, a cinema queen Roxy Movie Theater, a screen unseen Art Deco charm, a historic face A New York icon, in a crowded space Red velvet seats, a cozy nest Independent films, and Hollywood's best The Roxy's screen, a storyteller's stage Where dreams and magic, turn the page A cultural hub, in a bustling town Roxy Movie Theater, a cinematic crown A place for artists, and film enthusiasts too Roxy's the spot, where movies come alive The Roxy Movie Theater is now known as the Roxy Cinema Tribeca, and it's located in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan, NYC.

Google
Curation is impressive but when you advertise a film being projected on 35mm and a MacBook system pop up ad comes on screen fifteen minutes into the screening you’re blatantly misleading your customers. Every time I come here the AC is blasting unreasonably cold, especially in the middle of Winter (staff member’s response when asked to turn it down - “there’s only so much we can do”) you’re charging $18 a ticket try and get it together

A cool place with unique movies selections. The jazz club downstairs is supercool!

Yelp
Just a wonderful (nearly private) screening of one our favorite films "FIFTH ELEMENT" in the front row paired with delicious freshly made Roxy popped corns (our term). Sooo enjoyable & highly recommended for everyone. Roxy screens GREAT films & the bar scene (before & after) is really cool. Don't miss Django downstairs for live music either! Great vibe & drinks there. oh...and they offer billiards too!!!

Yelp
The AMC and Regal are nice, but sometimes an independent movie theatre brings charm to the experience that a chain can't. Perks of going to the Roxy for a movie are enjoying the live music in the lobby beforehand, no movie trailers, and the opportunity to watch movies on film. In exchange for the vintage theatre atmosphere your seats don't recline and aren't as spacious or plush as an AMC seat. Independent theatre are more selective about the films they show and usually screen independent films instead of blockbusters. All things considered I think the small sacrifices are worth it to enjoy the experience and I will be coming back! The Roxy Theatre also holds events where they interview filmmakers and is available to rent out for private screenings. For the popcorn fiends, Popcorn is $7 for a small and $10 for a large.

Yelp
Hidden gem of a theater in the basement of the Roxy hotel. It takes you to another time both with the decor and the movies they play. A fun evening will be going to the movies here and then to the jazz club/bar above.

Yelp
We had plans to attend the cinema and first enjoyed the beautiful bar and had a couple of drinks. Jazz band trio playing in the large open area adjacent to the bar. Really unique atmosphere. Theater was great. Little cold for the winter time lacked heat and I usually don't get too cold at places like this. Food selection at the theater was good except no butter on the popcorn which at the end of the day is probably a good thing but I was disappointed. Bathrooms for the theater were very very nice; a pleasure to use.

Yelp
Love love love this movie theater! They show old classics and new indies on weekends. My husband treated me to a annual movie pass- about $250 for unlimited movies with free small popcorn each time. I really wish they offered more days than just the weekend! Would love to be able to go midday in the week, as that works better for my schedule-- but I know it's a unique theater and they probably just don't have the clientele to justify those times. That being said, on a Friday night it was a fully packed theater! Would definitely recommend reserving tickets ahead of time. The whole Roxy hotel is a vibe in itself and a fantastic date night. Bathrooms are so fancy, great snacks/drink selections. Nice bar and coffee shop in the lobby to complete the experience. Love this hidden gem!

Yelp
Stepping into this cinema felt like one of the most magical experiences of my life. As someone who lives in London and frequents the BFI and other major cinemas often, I was so taken back by The Roxy. It is the most beautiful, intimate, cozy, incredible theater. . The staff is unreal, and was able to get me into a sold out viewing last minute just because they knew how much I wanted to see the film. That sort of integrity is so rare these days, so to know this theater exists is truly a dream come true. It is a clear reflection of the amazing people who are behind it. If you love film, go here and you will be blown away by the video quality and the essence of the theater. It truly is unlike anything else.

Yelp
Took my brother here when he visited to show him a cool New York spot. Intimate theater always showing something interesting. We saw an old safdie brothers film and Josh safdie gave an impromptu talk after the film. Great programming and a friendly and helpful staff. Best rep theater in NYC right now !

Yelp
This is an old school movie theater type feel from this place. This theater has been around for a few years but the Roxy is more about their hotel business, this is more of a side project. This theater officially takes moviepass and this has increased its popularity over the past year. I actually have joined the year long membership and have had great interactions with the staff so far. I legitimately have had a great time coming here so far. I have seen a movie or five here so far, such as Skate Kitchen, Night Moves, Never Goin Back, I am not a Witch Doctor, and A Nightmare on Elm Street (original), it was a cool nostalgia screening. So far have enjoyed my time here coming to this area to see movies. The year looks like it is on a good pace and I will keep getting popcorn here and buying a beer to enjoy a movie and get the most out of this movie membership.

Yelp
A real gem of a throwback movie theater in the Roxy Hotel basement. Luckily they accept MoviePass or I never might have had a chance to check it out. Love the plush old chairs and classic cinema feel. My only quibble is with people walking in well into the first 20 minutes of the movie, which is obnoxious. I think they're expecting trailers and the movie I saw, at least, was not preceded by any. I'm sure some are guests waddling in for a complimentary movie, without any hurry, but if there are no trailers, there might be a sign and policy about this wherever the tickets are bought. Definitely a gem in TriBeCa, so let's keep it quiet.

Yelp
Came here to catch a screening of a film my friends are in along with a Director talk and Q& A. Beautiful little cinema house tucked away on the lower level of the beautiful Rocky Hotel in TriBeCa. They have an adorable little concession stand. Great lounge area right before entering the theater. They also have a bar above the lounge. I will return to hangout at the bar/restaurant area very soon.

Yelp
Oh the Roxy Theater!! How I would love to keep you all to myself. I'm a huge movie nerd and this year I have made an extra effort in finding all my new favorite spots for film and I'm happy to say you are up there! The events that are thrown for the movies are truly what makes this little secret theater the best. I came for a Sacred Bones event. We watched a music video from the band Uniform, a short film a feature film from Jacqueline Castel called "Twelve Dark Noons" and finished with a panel and q and a. And the film was none other than. classic horror-esque Australian film "Wake In Fright". Wow! If you have not seen this film then you might need to remedy that quickly. I will warn you to not watch the film if you are hungover or completely loaded. I'm already feeling dizzy thinking about it. The movie has a simple plot. There's a man and he wants to leave this town. The levels of anxiety and the buzzing of flies add to the film and especially in the theater. The last time I went there was a social media vs actual theater mix up on times. I was super bummed to hear the movie I wanted to watch on a Monday with q and a with the director was moved to a Wednesday according to two signs. It was even worse when I went all the way home to find out that it was still Monday. Illyse was an absolute doll and quickly wrote me for the event on social media. I'm glad I came back. The movie was classic horror and comedic film "Basket Case" by Frank Henenlotter. We missed a chunk of the film but seeing it on a large screen was great. The best part was easily the q and a. The director Henenlotter was a natural story teller. This makes the biggest difference in these types of scenarios. The person has to be willing to talk and take you to a time and a place. Hearing about the making of fake blood back in the day was hilarious. One of my favorite stories was how when the film first came out the film production people edited out all the good gory scenes and the film was doing terrible in the theaters. It wasn't until some event in Texas were the guests of honor insisted on the unedited version that it became the cult classic. People were lined up and it was selling out consistently for two years. I love hearing these stories. From what I can gather, there might be more visits from Frank Henenlotter. And there's constantly great events and movies here all the time. The trick is that you do have to follow their social media to be on top of it. They show great movies here all the time. And there are tons of special guests. And I love that they have cheap pbr and expensive candy bars! I love the highs and the lows.

Yelp
Very cute boutique movie theater located in the Roxy Hotel, Tribeca. It's a charming space that seats maybe 75 and usually shows an interesting mix of art house, obscure, and commercial films. Only been here once and will definitely be returning. The lobby was unpleasantly hot the day I went and there was no guidance on how to navigate the tickets, lining up for entry to the theatre, was a little frustrating that first time but now I know for next time.

Yelp
Possibly the most wonderful single screen theatre in the city. Lovely and friendly staff, superb slate of films ranging from the obscure to some mainstream. Heaven for a cinephile if you ask me.

Yelp
Semi-clandestine movie theater in the basement of the Roxy Hotel? Showing indie films? With Q+A from the film producers too? How fast can I sign up?? My friend and I heard about this new documentary called "Monagamish", directed by Tao Ruspoli- she through a podcast and me via a posted facebook event. We recently discovered the works of Esther Perel, and when we learned that our favorite relationship expert would be featured in the film, it was a complete no brainer that we needed to attend. Initially, we were super confused where the movie theater was. We knew it was through the hotel, and downstairs, so when we found a lovely red staircase that led down, we were thrown off by a sign right in the middle of the stairway entrance listed for another event. After we asked the friendly staff, they moved the sign and led us downstairs. It would probably be best if they were more organized and moved the sign away to avoid confusion. Luckily we got down there early enough for decent seats- its a super small but cozy theather with the MOST COMFORTABLE velvet seats (omg!), and wonderfully dim lighting. Super romantic place to be too (too bad the couple in front of us was fighting). The event was so well coordinated and the movie it was such a wonderfully mind-opening documentary. Every seat was filled, as It was sold out for days and they had to extend the screening a few more days too. The Q+A session was very intimate, being a small theater and all, so everyone could hear everyone else's questions without needing a microphone, which led to a much more robust and hearty discussion- no repeatbacks needed. I would definitely be back! This theather is like a vestige of the past. Also, bathrooms were spacious and the decor lovely.

Yelp
Cool little theater that I imagine doesn't make money, or at least not much, but it's a nice perk of being a hotel guest. They show small-release movies, sometimes ones that aren't showing anywhere else in New York. They're one of a few theaters that do e-ticketing with MoviePass, which is nice, although they don't do assigned seating. The seats are the red plush variety, and low, but the springs were still working and there was actually a lot of leg room. The fabric is a little scratchy. I thought he sound was a bit loud, could have been the movie. The picture quality is fine, no complaints. The front row is several years back from the screen, which isn't huge, so no one will be too close, but the back rows are pretty far back. Still, no one will strain their neck looking up. They sell typical movie snacks and popcorn, although I'm not sure how fresh it is. There's also a great coffee place in the hotel lobby and one can obviously bring a coffee into the theater. If they are showing something I want to see, I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Yelp
I am sure this place wont be kept under wraps for long. I cannot believe this oasis of calm is in the midst of one of the city's most congested traffic spots. The day I went I had just eaten at Black Tap. It was raining, chilly and windy. Emergency vehicles were screaming down the street. Cars and SUVs were bumper to bumper. Nothing was moving. But then I entered the Roxy Hotel and all of my anxiety just disappeared. The lobby is beautiful. Red velvet, red neon, and deep velvety hues are everywhere. The theater is down stairs. It is a hotel so there is a lot going on. A bar, coffee shop, jazz club, and theater all under one roof. Maybe more that I do not know about. You go down a set of winding stairs that are at the side of the guest services desk. You pass by a sunken like gathering place which was buzzing with music and people when I arrived about 6:20. Its located on the cellar level. I had purchased a ticket online and I just told lady my name and she printed my ticket. No ID or anything needed. The concession stand was super clean and well organized. Wine and beer and popcorn are served. All kinds of candy are available for $5.00 frickin' dollars. Just go to Dollar Tree and load up on same boxes for $1.00 and thank me later! This place was devoid of any riff raff and I think this is the idea. Put a nice little theater in an exclusive hotel , one which the average movie goer might be intimidated to enter and, put very few seats in the theater and add an amazing wall to wall screen. The chairs and carpet will be so plush that no hooligan would think of littering or leaving his trash (ohhh I forgot, we wont have those types in here anyways). What a novel idea. I saw the Joker which was one of the best movies I have EVER seen and the theater was far and away the BEST I have ever seen a movie. There were some stragglers walking into the theater and I have no idea why folks would come 20 minutes late to a movie. But the sound is amazing, picture quality was unbelievable. Just WOW all the way around!! I purchased my ticket for $12.00 online with an added $1.00 service fee but the tickets are $12.00 GA and cost $9.00 for seniors, the disabled, students, and children. If you are a guest in the hotel, all you have to do is show your room key. But for the extremely low price of $125.00 you can watch movies unlimited and get a free popcorn during each visit. I think that is amazing. While I am just reviewing the theater, there is a lot going on in here. You could make a night hanging out in here, but alas, you do need money. Django, the jazz club requires a cover and an outrageous "minimum" that will surely start your tab at a cool Ben Franklin before the first set is even played. The subway is right outside and you can be at Penn Station in 15 minutes.

Yelp
This is a single screen boutique theater that shows independent films. It is in the basement of the Roxy Hotel in Tribeca, just off the Canal St stop of the ACE train. It has quite a unique look, with plush red velvet seats and wall trimmings. It's also a rather small theater, and I'd guess it might hold around 100 seats, if that. The theater and adjoing spaces were very clean. The staff was pretty friendly, though the line for tickets was a bit long when I arrived - I'm accustomed to using kiosks and not waiting, which isn't available here. There are some negatives as a theater though - the screen is low enough that people walking around the front end up blocking the screen with their heads, and the seat pitch is a little narrow, so getting to your seat in the middle of a row is a little difficult. Still, it's a nice, reasonably priced, conveniently located theater to watch indy films.

Yelp
Enjoyed the warm atmosphere that this cinema conjured....Classy red velvet seating are lovely. My friend and I watched Pain and Glory last night and we had a wonderful movie experience.

Yelp
This is a real gem! I saw Jojo Rabbit here a few days ago and it was such an enjoyable experience. The seats are red velvet, the popcorn is freshly made before every movie, and the small theater is very cozy/comfortable. The woman working at the concession stand was also very nice! I ordered popcorn before it was ready and she actually brought it out to me as I was sitting in the theater, so nice!

Yelp
Was my first time here and the bartender made me feel horrible. I was discouraged cuz he made an ego trip on me, i m Russian and he is Irish. The supremacy was squeezed to his part. That's awful. I was insulted. When I asked for a drink he would tell me how come I don't know what's In there and how come I don't know other things about cocktails and what kind of glasses 'real' bartenders use for a specific drink. He was A RACIST!The place is amazing!!But that bartender wasn't !!!Overall :bad vibes/bad experience

Yelp
Great Hotel, WONDERFUL service!!! My wife and I were married in Tribeca in May and we had set up a block at The Roxy for our guests. 10-12 couples stayed and loved the rooms and hotel. The lobby and live music provided a nice hang out area. We had a rehearsal dinner that was scheduled to take place at a restaurant/bar down the street, but was canceled last minute due to lack of air conditioning. I immediately reached out to The Roxy to see if they could help....and they sure did! Richard from the events/food services put together a cocktail party for us within 2 hours; providing a great space and service for our guests. I was so impressed by the staff. They did everything they could to ease the stress for me and my wife. They even helped by matching the budget that we had for the original location. In the end, everything worked out better than I could have expected. I would surely recommend staying at this hotel!! Michael
