I am sure this place wont be kept under wraps for long. I cannot believe this oasis of calm is in the midst of one of the city's most congested traffic spots. The day I went I had just eaten at Black Tap. It was raining, chilly and windy. Emergency vehicles were screaming down the street. Cars and SUVs were bumper to bumper. Nothing was moving. But then I entered the Roxy Hotel and all of my anxiety just disappeared. The lobby is beautiful. Red velvet, red neon, and deep velvety hues are everywhere. The theater is down stairs. It is a hotel so there is a lot going on. A bar, coffee shop, jazz club, and theater all under one roof. Maybe more that I do not know about. You go down a set of winding stairs that are at the side of the guest services desk. You pass by a sunken like gathering place which was buzzing with music and people when I arrived about 6:20. Its located on the cellar level. I had purchased a ticket online and I just told lady my name and she printed my ticket. No ID or anything needed. The concession stand was super clean and well organized. Wine and beer and popcorn are served. All kinds of candy are available for $5.00 frickin' dollars. Just go to Dollar Tree and load up on same boxes for $1.00 and thank me later! This place was devoid of any riff raff and I think this is the idea. Put a nice little theater in an exclusive hotel , one which the average movie goer might be intimidated to enter and, put very few seats in the theater and add an amazing wall to wall screen. The chairs and carpet will be so plush that no hooligan would think of littering or leaving his trash (ohhh I forgot, we wont have those types in here anyways). What a novel idea. I saw the Joker which was one of the best movies I have EVER seen and the theater was far and away the BEST I have ever seen a movie. There were some stragglers walking into the theater and I have no idea why folks would come 20 minutes late to a movie. But the sound is amazing, picture quality was unbelievable. Just WOW all the way around!! I purchased my ticket for $12.00 online with an added $1.00 service fee but the tickets are $12.00 GA and cost $9.00 for seniors, the disabled, students, and children. If you are a guest in the hotel, all you have to do is show your room key. But for the extremely low price of $125.00 you can watch movies unlimited and get a free popcorn during each visit. I think that is amazing. While I am just reviewing the theater, there is a lot going on in here. You could make a night hanging out in here, but alas, you do need money. Django, the jazz club requires a cover and an outrageous "minimum" that will surely start your tab at a cool Ben Franklin before the first set is even played. The subway is right outside and you can be at Penn Station in 15 minutes.
