We had the pleasure of staying at the Le Royal as a break from our busy sight seeing itinerary in Paris this July. We soon fell in love with Deauville and its people. The staff is by far the hotel’s greatest asset after location. Kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming, they were a highlight of our stay, especially Fabien at the Concierge desk who offered the very best recommendations on where to eat. I would let him point you in the direction of every meal and cocktail so you can avoid the tourist traps. It was clear that the hotel had once been a beacon of elegance and its rich history permeated every aspect of our experience. When we first arrived, I admit to being disappointed to find the hotel wore clear marks of her age. Distressed paint, aging carpets and dated bathrooms were prevalent and unexpected given they were not reflected in any of the online photography. As an American, distress and age in a building are usually a sign of lack of care and upkeep, but it’s clear that is not the case at the Le Royal, a building whose long history might be reflected in her appearance but whose long commitment to excellence and elegance overshadows the chipped paint. Expectations are so often the thief of joy, and so I suggest you set yours accordingly and then look past these little details to imagine life here during its heyday so you can enjoy both the hotel and the town’s many charms. One other thing worth noting is that we’d come in search of a beach holiday, but the weather was less than accommodating, so pack your swimsuit but make backup plans for how to spend your time. For us, when the sun failed to make an appearance, we enjoyed exploring Deauville and the nearby medieval towns. With its distance just a 2 hour train ride away from Paris, it’s a great place to break from busy city life

I had an excellent stay at the Ryal Barriere. First, I did have a room with AC but it was unrenovated, to be fair. I do think the renovated rooms are prettier but perhaps AC is missing based on some other reviews - they do have both though so it's worth asking. I don't think I lacked anything functionally in an older room. It was very large with a beautiful sea view. The bed and bedding were divine, one of the most comfortable I've experienced. The bathroom amenities are luxurious. Caramels on your pillows as part of turndown service. The staff go out of their way to make sure you are having a good visit (and you don't feel constantly judged or watched). The hotel gives you complementary headphones so you can use at the gym (or elsewhere); I found the gym (as well as sauna and steam room) to be relatively uncrowded. Fabien and Jody and everyone else at the concierge desk are amazing. Mgmt gave amazing welcome gifts, my only request to mgmt there is please don't assume everyone wants wine (or can travel with it)...give people a choice.

I am shocked that this isn't the #1 hotel in Deauville. Some of the reviews here mention the interior needing a refresher, but the only thing we noticed is that in the hallway of the floor we were staying on, you could see the seams on some of the wallpaper and some wood paneling looks older. That is in no way a reason to avoid this property, and it does not distract from having a 5-star experience there. |The staff at the property are so personal and professional and go above and beyond to provide you with personalization and care. After checking in, we were given a tour of and some history about the property. We were shown our room which was stunningly beautiful! The bathroom was large and modern, the room was very spacious and completely spotless, and the sea view from the balcony was breathtaking. The room comes equipped with yoga mats. We needed an iron and an ironing board, but the room didn't have one. We called for one, and it was delivered within minutes, and we were able to keep it for the remainder of our stay. There were fair prices for laundry service too, which we utilized. Nothing is overlooked in the toiletry supply, including shaving kit, toothbrush kit, perfume, etc. The beds at the Hôtels Barrière are *the* most comfortable - the mattresses, the bedding (somehow the comforter keeps you perfectly warm without over-heating!), the pillows. Turn-down service left little local caramels on the pillows. Fresh glass bottles of water are left in your room daily (and you can also get boxed water from the concierge when you're on your way out for the day). The room was just perfect. |There is a lot to do at the hotel, and we wished we could have stayed longer! There is a pool, at which you can order drinks and food. The beach out front is massive and gorgeous. There are several hotel cafes along the beach boardwalk with food that is delicious and just the kind of food you want to eat when at the shore on a warm day (oysters, burrata and tomatoes, french fries, ice cream, and a large drink selection). |All of the food at the hotel is top quality (best meals of our trip). Do not miss the breakfast! They have everything you could every want from pastries to a juice maker to eggs and meats, and a special gluten-free station. They also have local cider and champagne, along with many fresh juices. Dinner at the hotel is just as good, and the lobby lounge/bar has good cocktails and live music. You can also utilize the Kids Club and Teens Club at the sister hotel, Le Normandy, which is just a block away. We did not have time to enjoy them, but there is also a spa and complementary bicycles to use. |Our only regret is that we did not plan for a longer stay!

We were staying at the hotel to celebrate our anniversary and really enjoyed a very relaxing couple of days. Reception was charming, informative, efficient, took good care of our car and made us feel right at home. Our room had a beautiful view of the beach, was extremely comfortable, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. There was a very nice touch of some flowers and gifts on our arrival. The turn down service was exceptional. The hotel itself is old-world grandeur, with first class facilities and service. You want to linger to enjoy all of its charm, care and history. The restaurant served a pleasant dinner, with well-presented staff. And just a few meters away is the stunning beach. We had a wonderful time. Many thanks to all the staff and the Duty Manager Guillaume.

First of all this the best hotel 🏨 I ever stayed at in France 🇫🇷. Second the hotel is very charming. Third the hotels is right across the street from the beach 🏝️. Fourth the hotel 🏨 has a lovely swimming 🏊‍♀️ pool. Fifth hotel 🏨 has the most beautiful 🤩 lobby that I have ever seen in France 🇫🇷. Lastly, the people who work here are very nice 👍.

I came here in the off season on a business trip, but this hotel was the highlight of the whole place. Being the offseason, check in was a breeze, we got a little tour, and the room was fantastic. Insane ocean views, wonderful amenities, fantastic service. Obviously the hotel is not new, but it has been maintained impeccably and delivers everything you could hope for.

This hotel is old money grandeur. The service was impeccable from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out. Breakfast was excellent with a large selection of foods, including cheese and meats and pastries. Dining was in a grand dining room or outside on the grassy lawn.|Our very large room, 214 bis, was spectacular with a terrace overlooking the ocean. We kept our terrace doors open during the day and night and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. The room temperature was always pleasant as this room was not air conditioned.|The king bed was extremely comfortable, and it was hard to leave!|The town is a few blocks away and the beach is across the street. There is no need for a car.| I will definitely return. Merci!

Yelp
The hotel lobby is lovely and very traditional. The hotel rooms however are run down and disappointing. The room we were upgraded to had a beautiful view of the beach and the ocean, and normally costs up to €1000/night is tired with dated furniture. The carpet is patched in areas and stained. The details in the room are badly executed. They didn't bother restocking coffee, water or any details in the morning or at turn down. Waste of money. We had a very expensive dinner in the restaurant the first night, and while I understand they may have just reopened, it was mediocre with very disappointing over priced food. The staff were friendly but untrained. Would NOT stay here again.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at the Royal Barriere twice, the first time was 10 years ago and most recently last week. Both stays were wonderful! It's difficult to cast my mind back to 10 years ago, so this review is based on our recent stay. Our room was located on the 6th floor and we were fortunate to secure a room that overlooked the beach. The view is amazing, my wife and I enjoyed looking out at the beach and watching horses running along the beach. The room was nicely appointed with a king size bed, a flat screen TV, USB ports, and a large soaking tub in the bathroom. The room probably could've been cleaner. For example, the grout in the shower was dirty and there was dirt on the bathroom door. Overall, the room was nice! Perhaps the best part of the hotel was the service. The entire hotel staff was excellent. From the Front Desk, the Concierge, Dining Room/Bar Staff, and to the Housekeeping Staff, everyone was very helpful and accommodating. We may not be coming back to Deauville for another 10 years, but when we do, we're looking forward to staying at the Royal Barriere again.

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -The Hotel Barriere le Royal along w/ the town of Deauville is historic due to it's strong connection to Madame Chanel. -Yes, that CoCo Chanel. -This is where she enjoyed staying along w/ the other rich & famous from France & all around the world. -As a city w/ moderate temperatures, there is no need for A/C. -Unfortunately, I was there during a small heat wave, so I left the windows open. -Some mosquitoes got inside, which made sleeping a bit tougher. -The hotel itself is very, very old. -You can smell the decades whenever you walk the huge hallways. -For a so-called 5 star hotel, I would give this a 3 star ranking. -The location is very good b/c it's central, right next to the beach and the ultra-cute downtown. Overall, it was cool to say I stayed here, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
Worst hotel I've EVER stayed at. Rooms were extremely dirty, to such an extent, that when we called to complain about the stink in the bathroom, the manager sent an orchid with a note "Sorry for our uncleanliness". And that should not be at such an expensive hotel. (Paid 750 euros a night). Room service is terrible. It took over an hour and fifteen minutes to bring up our food and when we called to ask where it was the lady said "I do not understand, and hung up" Not one staff member of this hotel went to hotel school, nor do they have any manners. If we would be paying 200 euros a night one understands their disorganized and unfriendly staff, but definitely not at this rate!

Yelp
A great service as expected from a palace! The hotel is well located close to city center, to the convention center and facing the sea. It is a nice and charming place with large rooms and balcony perfect for the summer. Rooms need to be refreshed but overall really nice ones. The service is perfect and the conciergery is making sure that everything you need is done as quick as possible. Great restaurant and breakfast as well. I recommend this palace for business or vacation.
