Royal Brewery New Orleans

My husband and I are self-proclaimed "beer nerds". We visited on a recent Sunday afternoon and had a phenomenal time. First - location - if you are local you understand where this is at, if you aren't, the location may seem "sketchy" but you'll be safe and there is nothing to worry about. Second - beer - we were hesitant about the visit because we first looked up their beers on "Untappd" (beer rating app) & thought they were rather low. However, the beers are true to style & well executed, so we believe the ratings are more likely an issue of personal preference only. My husband was over the moon because the owner (Raymond) was boiling crawfish. I was happy because there were board games we could play while drinking. A great time, which I highly recommend.

This little craft brewery is certainly off the beaten bath, in an industrial area near the Lakefront Airport. The entire facility is in a metal building the size of a large basketball gym. Make sure you look for the signs or you may miss it. I went to Royal with my son for his 21st birthday. The pictures accompanying this review are the Culicidae Ale and the Chevelle Diablo-Porter. We also ordered the flight, a small sample of all of their beers. The owner, Raymond, gave us a very detailed tour of his process. My son is an engineering student and Raymond was more than happy to go into the technical details of each step of the process. Each of the beers were completely different and full of flavor. Most of them were on the bitter side. My favorite was the Chevelle Diablo-Porter. I have had probably close to a hundred different porters, and this one is definitely in the running for my favorite. Not bitter and very delicious. The bartender was friendly and helpful. Just be aware that "the tasting room" is just a bar with a few stools and tables inside a very industrial building. If you want fancy surroundings, this is not the place for you. However, if sampling some very good local beers with some friendly people is up your alley, Royal is definitely worth a consideration.

A bit hidden away and not really easy to find, but it's a good little brewery with a nice selection of beers. The taproom/tasting area is very cozy, with a nice little seating area, and a few table games. The bartenders are friendly and very knowledgeable about the beers they have on tap.

The Royal Brewery is not to be missed. If you enjoy beers with nuance and complexity or if you just enjoy drinking beer than you need to get out to Royal and see the amazing state of the art brewing hardware. Brew Master Raymond is happy to explain the process and talk beer. The Space is a working brewery with stainless steel tanks and the various brewing equipment. I was there on a big game night and there was a projection screen showing the game. The “Termite Loger” and “Bug Lite” were my choices for the night. Both beers win for their creative names and flavor. Royal Brewery is super option for both novice beer drinkers as well hard core beer aficionados. Last note, the Brewery is family friendly with lots for the little ones to stay occupied. Royal Brewery is absolutely worth the drive and we can't wait to go again!

Great beer and very nice casual atmosphere at the brewery. It's an interesting place, basically a tap and bar inside a working brewery in an industrial district. Nothing fancy or flashy. Just a few artistic touches that reflect the creative nature of Raymond and Mandy, the principals. I appreciate the simple and inviting space and the wonderful people who work there. Highly recommended.

This brewery is a little hidden gem in New Orleans East. Very thorough tour of the brewery. The passion and love for craft beer was definitely felt from the owner throughout the entire tour. We ordered wings from the food truck there and they were AMAZING! Wonderful experience all around. Great staff, kid friendly, live entertainment, and the craft beer was very tasty. We will be back 👍

Loved everything about the Royal Brewery! My husband and I decided to go check out this brewery while we were on vacation in New Orleans. It was hands down our favorite brewery experience we've ever had. Raymond is a super nice guy who spent lots of time with us walking us through the entire process of beer brewing, as well as entrepreneurship, film making, punk rock and whatever else came up in our delightful conversations. His beers were all fantastic (my husband especially loved the Chevelle Diablo Porter and my favorite was the Termite Loger) and the atmosphere was very inviting. I loved that there was a playroom for kids, and that the serving bar came from a movie set. The photographs were all Raymond's work, (great work Raymond) and were really cool and interesting. We've toured many breweries and some were pretty neat, but we've never been to a place where the owner spent so much time with us, one on one, explaining everything and answering all of our questions. It was very personal, and Raymond is such an easy-going and authentically nice guy who made us feel completely welcome and at home. I would highly recommend anybody should go seek out this cool brewery and enjoy some great beer, great hospitality and very friendly conversation. You won't be disappointed.

Loved it. Not easy to find and in a sketchy area but aren't these the best kind of places?? 3 beers on tap and THAT'S IT. But they were all delicious. This is a small scale brewery and we met everyone involved...They are very knowledgeable about their beers and very personable. Will definitely end up here again and will bring newbies. If you're reading this review you likely have an interest in local breweries....as do I....and I'm telling you. Just go.

Very very very Affordable! I really enjoy the vibes ofnthis spot. Think of a Brewery. (I am giving you 3 minutes) . Now, if you thought big spacious warehouse in an outdoor Vibes you GUESSED RIGHT! This is nice and spacious with slme games and also a Television. Yes a Television in a warehouse across from the alcoholic brewey tanks! I had a GREAT time here. You can tell also the bartender s are pretty much here to entertain and speak to you! MADDIE AND Raymond are very laid back and just overall in tune with what is going on. Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays til 9 pm on fridays this spot is amazing. They have been open 2 1/2 years and also heres what sild me in this spot..... ready??????????? .......ready ????? It is KID FRIENDLY !!! YES...there are non alcoholic options as well as a room dedicated to just kids!! THIS SPACE IS FANTASTIC ANDNI WILL BE BACK FRIDAY!

I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon at Royal Brewery and I have the tshirt to prove it. Located in the Industry Hub, Lakefront South, Bywater North (branding is everything see eg Mid city formerly the 7th ward etc). Any way, located in New Orleans East, they are a much welcome change of pace. Currently they have two brews on tap and sometimes a non alcoholic homemade ginger ale option. Both brews are light and the head frothy almost like a foam on a latte. The ginger ale is super delicious and... not so strong that you clear your sinuses. When you stop by you will be treated like family. Many times there is food available and there is a kids section with activities. What what! There is limited inside seating and then several wooden picnic tables in the shade. I was treated to some A plus convo by the proprietors but I know that was just luck of the draw. But I do strongly encourage everybody to check them out. Especially before it gets mad busy.

Ok, this review is tough. Unless the beer has changed dramatically I don't believe all of the 5 star reviews...except the folks here are extremely nice. I mean wow are they nice. We sampled every beer they had and I can say they probably had 2 ok ones and one stand out. Unfortunately the rest kind of tasted the same. I debated quite a bit about this feedback. I am no beer slouch - I'm actually a beer judge, home brewer and I have traveled quite a bit, tasting beer from all over. I say this just to qualify my review on the beer. Now the good, Angel and the space itself. The location of the space in some ways is unfortunate. It is way out there. The day we went there was no food truck and the Uber Eats driver wasn't sure where the heck to deliver food. I get it, it is industrial. My wife and I have been to so many spaces like this we weren't too phased but I bet several folks are. The warehouse the brewery is in has many many possibilities. We showed up on a Saints Sunday and other than the small tv playing not much else was going on. Angel pretty much talked to us and entertained us for the time we were there. She truly is an Angel! Raymond came by at one point but he left not soon after. I would say work on getting people in where they don't have to drive to NOLA and work on the beers to make them stand alone and this place will be hopping. Oh yeah, a food truck would be nice.

Raymond and his family have a great gem here. The drinks are amazing, the people are friendly, and it's always a good time.

I really like what this place is about! Good beer done well. The inviting space is tucked away in an industrial section of New Orleans east. There is a large sign pointing you to the brewery off Townsend place since many of the warehouses look the same. Picnic tables are available in the front and on the side. A small bar area with half a dozen stools, a large rope spool for a standing table and a "kids room" make this a fun spot. The space is huge and will easily accommodate a crowd. When you enter you're likely to be greeted by Ray, Michael or Mandy. They have set up a nice brewery that is planned for growth. If you spend a few minutes with any of them you immediately know they are about quality and hospitality and everything is a work in progress (which is a great attitude in my opinion). They are planning to have five or so brews out by the end of the year and do each of those well. Right now they are serving two brews - a slight variation separates them. Brew #1 is a bit lighter in color, hoppy with a slight bite and a fruity/citrus note. Brew #2 is a shade darker than #1, still hoppy, but a bit smoother at the end with a tad more depth in flavor and no citrus notes. Both were enjoyed by our group with #2 being slightly more popular. Music was provided by a DJ and ray cooked up some crawfish and jambalaya this past Sunday for a really excellent afternoon. When the rain wouldn't relent, they picked up the picnic tables and brought them inside for the customers. A great mix of people from young to older and from all walks of life were here. Check it out - I think you will like it.

Almost hidden in a quiet, industrial area in New Orleans East is a gem of a brewery. The place is HUGE, but they've made the bar feel intimate and friendly. There have been a lot of brew pubs popping up, this one is worth the drive. We tried the "big-kid" flight (half-pints of each beer), of their beers: Culicidae Ale - Excellent staple beer. Easy to drink, good sports watching beer. The more you drink, the less able you are to pronounce the name. Fruit Fly ASB American Special Bitter Ale - Loved this one because the brew master "made up" the ASB designation. He figured if there's an "ESB (English)", there should be an American version. Bug Leight Session Steam Lager - I'm not much of a lager person, so this one was a bit lost on me. Termite Loger - Can you tell there's a bug theme? We joked with the bartender about doing a "Pestival"! Chevelle Diablo-Porter - Hands down my favorite. Dark and sweet and creamy. We spent easily 3 hours hanging out with the brewer and the bartender, and enjoyed food from the food truck. We left feeling like we had made some good friends and are definitely looking forward to going back.

Nothing better from a brewery in New Orleans. Whether a large keg. A pony. Or the bottles. We love it all. Extraordinary to the last drop!

So this place is AWESOME!! I heard that they opened the bar for wknds on FB and had to come see what they had brewing! The bartender Angel is the best! Great energy and very knowledgeable about their beers. I talked to Raymond who brews the beers about what makes their beer so good!! I will definitely be coming back to see both Angel and Raymond!!!

Bang for Your Buck: 10/10 Quality: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance/Location: 10/10 Overall: 10/10 We are SO glad we found out about Royal Brewery before our June honeymoon. As our Uber driver drove us back into what looked like an industrial park, we glanced at one another thinking, "This can't be the place." But it is. Royal Brewery is like discovering a treasure chest tucked away in the most unassuming place! From the second we walked in, it was like walking into family's homes on Thanksgiving. We were warmly greeted, given wonderful explanations of the beers available, and invited to sit down and enjoy ourselves. Shortly after we sat down and were looking through some of the games available to play (card games and some video games, too), we were invited to take part in a crawfish boil. Easily some of the best crawfish we've ever had. We liked beer #2 the best, and we encourage ya'll to make it Royal Brewery and try all three versions. We absolutely cannot wait to go back. On a Friday night when we're deciding where to go out, we always say, "Royal Brewery," and pine to go back!

Great brewery off the beat and path just outside the city of New Orleans. Great beers and a nice big venue.

Went here for a group brewery tour. Upon walking in, we were not greeted and were unsure where to go. Finally, after starting a game of darts, an employee came up to us advising what to do next. We were given a flight of beer to decide which one we liked (2 pints of beer were provided on the tour). The bartender was VERY informative & personable. I ordered the Bug's Lite as well as the Termite Lager. Both were delicious, cold, and just as described in terms of flavor. My idea of this place was quickly turning around as the bartender gave us a detailed snapshot of the brewery, his life, etc. and was able to engage in useful conversation. Once the tour started, I was very impressed with the amount of knowledge as well as the humerous behavior of the guide/brewer. He was able to explain things in a detailed manner, allowing us to see how everything performed in the beer-making process. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend! Delicious beer & great personable people.

This little brewery is exactly what I need and you will to. You have to know it's there, but the owner and his wife along with Thor make this a must place if you have the time. They don't mind you bringing in your own food or ordering from Uber eats. Their different brews will give you what you need and they are still growing. Check them out, chances are you will be seeing me there on a Saturday relaxing.

Cool owner. He is passionate about his beers. He has a lot of planned improvements. Very personable. Good beers. Great service. Your visit to this place will be a treat.

Visited this afternoon, had a great time. Beer is delicious, enjoyed the 3 varieties we tasted. Owners Ray and Mandy are wonderful, Mike the brewer is obviously passionate about his craft. Ray gave us an impromptu tour, which was super informative. One thing I especially loved is how environmentally conscious they are. Overall, great beer, great space, great service! What else could you want?!
