Royal House Oyster Bar

This place is great for oysters and service. The rest of the food we tried was disappointing. We asked for the blackened fish to be cooked in oil va butter, which was accommodated, but no seasoning was on the fish. The manager and the chef came out and apologized, promising to make another fish so we can take it with us, but no fish was recooked and the situation was left unfinished. I ordered an old fashion for a drink and the size and the taste of just simple syrup was definitely something the $17 price left to be desired. Next time, if there will be next time, oysters only!!!

The pasta dish came with cheese after I mentioned more than five times I was dairy free. The redfish came completely unseasoned. The kitchen and waitress apologised and removed it from the bill. They said multiple times they would bring a new, seasoned fish, in a to go box. They never brought it. Disappointing service. Tasty food.

I ordered the crispy fried oyster BLT po-boy. It was delicious and I loved the bread from the local bakery it was served on. The fries were well cooked too. The atmosphere was very pleasant. We ate upstairs and enjoyed the view and hearing the street performers below. Our server was very kind and did a great job.

Royal House was very quaint, and I loved the vibe of the restaurant. The staff was amazing, and the food was good. Donald was our host, and he was so very wonderful. He sat us in a perfect spot, and I noticed when we were praying, he stopped talking to show respect…you don’t see that every day. Kudos to you Donald. Our waitress was Valeria and she was quite nice. However, I asked if I could change out the crawfish and sauce on a dish and was told yes but when I got the order it was only egg and potato…I am a big meat eater and that absolutely did not work for me. When discussing it with Valeria she never frowned, or had cross words with me, just simply asked what else I would like to order, and she accommodated accordingly. We were very pleased with our meal as it was quite delicious, and the service was stellar. Way to go Valeria.

Delicious food, wonderful service, great atmosphere! We had the new orleans sampler and the blue crab appetizer. Do NOT pass up the blue crab appetizer, it was so good. Great broth and tons of crab claws (already de-shelled) easy to eat and delicious. The location is cool and the place is beautiful. Stopped by for lunch or dinner, portions were large.

Spinach and Artichoke dip, Crawfish Etouffe on the New Orleans Sampler and the Oyster Platter was delicious! Our server John was amazingly pleasant as well! I wish I had of known that the Etouffe was that delicious I would have gotten more!

OMG the food was so FYE!!!!! Shrimp and grits had me singing and dancing the whole way through. Not to mention the chargrilled oysters. Everything was so delicious. Staff was great, service was serving. I was so full!!! Now on to the drinks

I think the worst frustration for a customer when going to a restaurant is not getting the service they requested and, more than that, being surprised when it's time to pay the bill. I went into this restaurant because I wanted to try the signature dish Chicken and Andouille Gumbo. That's what caught my attention on the menu outside. The server greeted me warmly but couldn't give me clear explanations about the menu. In fact, the menu at my table was different from the one at the restaurant door. I wanted Chicken and Andouille Gumbo, but I didn't see it on the menu at my table. Even so, the attendant said she understood what I wanted, but she didn't seem to know the menu because she said she wanted a salad and there were no options on the menu.The dish was well presented but had no beans and sausage, you could count how many there were. It was more like a thin soup, but the flavor was okay. I ordered a Caesar salad and it was one of the worst I've ever had, no dressing, no grated cheese, and the croutons looked old. It seemed like it was made in a hurry and without any desire. When the bill came, it described a dish I never ordered, which was something like a "Gumbo Bowl" or something like that. As I said, it's bad to have surprises. I've never ordered this dish, and the price was different from what I saw on the menu outside. I definitely wouldn't go back to this place.

Amazing food as always!! Not exactly sure what was going on with our server because we barely saw him and it wasn't exactly busy, but we did manage to get helped by another staff member. We also got stuck with the menus left on our table and our meals were served on them The food is so delicious and this is our favorite spot to come for char broiled oysters when we're in NOLA. We did the Taste of New Orleans, and got all 4! Each one of them was so tasty, I highly recommend trying it! The cocktails here are not good at all, just eat here and then go across the street to Rib Room for cocktails afterwards! The table we had on the balcony was really wobbly and tipped back and forth very easily, which is stressful when there's multiple plates and drinks. So glad Royal House was open Christmas Day! It was a perfect way to celebrate!

This was my second time here. The first time was so good, I've always suggested this place to others, so of course I had to swing by again. The host was so friendly and they had the doors and windows open which was refreshing. I ordered the Chargrilled Oysters and the flavor is still just as good as a few years ago!

Royal House Oyster Bar holds a special place in our hearts, we ate on their second story balcony two years ago and had one of the most romantic, unforgettable meals of our lives. So we'd literally been waiting years to come back. On Monday of Thanksgiving week around 7pm, we stopped in, hoping to recreate that magic, but the host told us the upstairs wouldn't be available for a "long" time due to someone not showing up for their shift. She offered downstairs seating, but that's not what we'd waited three years for, so we headed to Oceana instead. We tried again the next night with three friends around 8:45pm (Yelp said they closed at 10), and the same host again said upstairs service would be too slow for a group of five, so she was only seating downstairs. We passed again and went to Mambo's. Determined, we returned Wednesday night. The host again warned us that service upstairs would be very slow, but we told her we didn't mind waiting however long it took. She reluctantly let us go up, and to our surprise, there was one party of eight inside and only two couples on the balcony. Two servers were working, and the atmosphere was calm and easy. Our server, Shawnell, was absolutely lovely and assured us it was no problem at all. We ended up in the perfect corner balcony spot we'd been hoping for. We split the Taste of New Orleans of four, ordered fries and two strawberry lemonades, and while the gumbo was cold, everything else was delicious. The drinks were excellent, the view was perfect, and Shawnell made the whole meal feel relaxed and special. She even gave us great beignet recommendations for the next morning. It was a little odd feeling like the host was pushing us away from the upstairs dining room when it was so quiet, but if we hadn't experienced that incredible balcony meal years ago, they would've lost our business. Because we knew exactly what we were coming back for, we pushed, and it was worth it. Shawnell was amazing, and thanks to her, we'll absolutely be back!

I come to Nola often but it's ALWAYS good to get advice from locals on where to eat. So while at Lafitte's a few people recommended this place to us because we said we wanted some oysters. So here we came. The service and the menu is OUTSTANDING!!! The alligator po boy, the sample dish of "The taste of New Orleans" and yes the charred oysters were absolutely awesome!!! Our server was wonderful and the decor beautiful. It was late night so it wasn't crowded. Most definitely coming back the next time we're in town.

We visited Royal House Oyster Bar while in New Orleans, and overall, I'd say it was just okay. The atmosphere was cool, with the restaurant open to all the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street, which gave it a lively vibe. Our server was very friendly, but unfortunately, the service was extremely slow. It took a long time for food and drinks to come out, and the table next to us even seemed frustrated enough to leave without paying -- which was uncomfortable to witness. We started with cocktails -- I had a margarita, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. We shared the spinach dip, which was good, and I had the French onion soup -- decent, but not worth the price. We also tried the Taste of New Orleans, but it wasn't really my favorite. Overall, it was an average experience. The setting was nice, but between the slow service and the food not quite hitting the mark, I wouldn't return. It just wasn't for me.

Just another stop on my oyster crawl. I was taken care of by Hillary the bartender who was very friendly. The place wasn't too busy and per usual I took a seat at the bar. I ordered a round of oysters and had one of her special drinks which was pretty tasty. Food came out quickly and service was great. It was pretty quiet and the vibe was comfortable and cozy.

We visiited Royal House during our trip back to New Orleans. The Royal House blue crab claws is our favorite dish in NOLA. The flavor and claws were still excellent. The dish could have used more bread to soak up that delicious sauce. I asked for more bread but our waiter brought 3 small pieces. That sauce is so good we can't be the only one who requested that. I'm not sure why they would not just charge me for a larger piece of bread. The server was very slow to come our table and arrogant once he came over. We almost left the restaurant a few minutes after arriving because he made us feel uncomfortable. We would go back for the food but very disappointed in the service.

One of the restaurants we found while walking around Bourbon Street. We came here for some authentic eats. It was a nice restaurant. The decor was pretty cool. The food was good! Some authentic shrimp and Grits and Crawfish Stew. It was delicious and spiced perfectly! Definitely recommend!

We ordered a dozen chargrilled oysters and sat upstairs. They were kind enough to split up the order on two plates for us. 8.5/10 on the oysters, I would definitely dine again. It did take some time for them to come out but they were fresh off the grill.

Good atmosphere in the French Quarter. We ordered the French onion soup which was very good! The taste of New Orleans was where the star rating fell off. The red beans and rice was good as well as the jambalaya. The gumbo and crawfish étouffée weren't great, the latter was extremely fishy!

I am a gumbo snob and I walked into Royal House and sat down for a beer and ordered a cup of gumbo expecting it to be bad but I was pleasantly surprised. There's a lot of bad gumbo in the quarter but this isn't one of them. By no means is it the great by Lafayette standards but it was spicy and the sausage was good and the roux was better than average for New Orleans. I would get a cup of it again. I probably wouldn't get a whole bowl but if you're in the quarter on a cold night a cup of this gumbo will warm you right up. I would like to try other things here and will probably do so in the future. Also, the bartender was friendly and the other patrons were chatty and friendly as well.

My boyfriend and I were getting ice cream next door and we walked by the Royal House Oyster bar and saw the Sugar Bowl playing on their tv. We stopped on the side walk to watch through the window. The nice girl from the restaurant insisted us to come inside and sit. At first we nicely declined because we weren't playing on buying anything, but she insisted us to sit in and eat our ice cream inside since it's 45 degrees outside. Love the hospitality. I already had seen that their food was already good so we'll have to come back and try! Thank you Royal House for the delightful hospitality!

In walking distance from the hotel where we stayed. Staff was very welcoming. Colleen was our server and i forgot her assistant she was training but they were very sweet and attentive. My hubby was with a broken ankle and we were seated promptly and comfortably. We tried the New Orleans sampler and the Cajun rib eye and ceasar salad all was good. Definitely would go back!

We enjoyed it. It's been a few years since we last visited NOLA. But when we do, we always eat at Royal House. As always, we started out by sharing some Chargrilled Oysters. They were good. 4/5. I had a cup of Gumbo as my entree. It was good. 4/5. Not seen on the menu, I asked about a small side salad. Our server, Colleen said she could do that. Thank you Colleen. 5/5. My wife had Seafood Pescatore and subbed out the marinara sauce for scamp sauce. I tried it. It was amazing! Lots of seafood in it as well. 5/5. Our server is usually Tina but she either wasn't on tonight or no longer works here. Colleen did fine. Thanks Royal House.

What a wonderful find in the French Quarter. We were able to sit in an open doorway and listen to live music outside while dining. Our server was great! She was friendly and attentive. She gave me a recommendation on what to order ... the French Toast and oooohh was it good! My husband had the Shrimp Po Boy and needed two hands (and a knife and fork) to eat it. Our server also recommended some things to do in the area. We love to hear from the locals :) We definitely recommend!

Given its location on the corner of St. Louis and Royal with its second-floor balcony views and ground-level oyster bars and lively staff, you would think this would be a decent dining experience. Unfortunately, the Royal House was very disappointing. Overpriced, no iced coffee, the coffee they had was unremarkable and didn't perk me up, and breakfast that offered fairly ho-hum bacon and a biscuit that was chewy, the experience was a let down. Granted, it caters to a more touristy crowd, so its more about the visual of a creole oyster house without the quality. The cuisine was very heavy on the gluten end, so there was very little for my wife, who is celiac. I didn't have any oysters so I can't vouch for how that was from others. But price-wise, I didn't think the experience was worth the visit. And I just had breakfast.

This meal was one of the best I had while In New Orleans. Dined by myself and all the staff were kind and attentive. I got the bourbon shrimp and grits, with a side of slaw, and it was incredible and a generous portion. Sitting outside, I enjoyed the spring weather while some live music played across the street.

With this spot being in a heavily trafficked area, there is a reason they had two people out front trying to pull people in. I know, it was a clear sign but the place we wanted to d a block away had a long line and we had to get back to a conference. They had poboys but not a muffelata. Shrimp poboy had shrimp that were not well cooked and almost mushy. The gumbo was fairly good but a cup was $12- much more expensive than surrounding places. Was not terrible but I would not return

This was a two-story establishment with wide-open windows and a bar upstairs. I believe there was also a bar downstairs too. The menu provided traditional Cajun and creole dishes. The service was okay. It took some time for us to get the check even though there was hardly anybody there. For an entrée, I had the creole red beans and rice ($22). It also contained grilled andouille sausage. The char on the sausage provided a nice flavor to it. The red beans rice was comforting and tasty. It was a classic dish done right and was very satisfying. I also tried the gumbo and jambalaya. Both were not bad, but I definitely preferred the red beans and rice at this spot. Will I go back? I believe so.

We checked in on this place early to ask about dinner plans around 2 and the front attendant Greg told us when to come back as a party of 7. He was right - we came back and were seated right away and had friendly service, During dinner it POURED but we were safe inside. Many people popped out to the balcony to check out the downpour. The food was great - especially the oysters,

Ambiance was a bit sketchy. Not a good first impression. The cocktail menu only had offerings built for open containers, not taste. We stuck with bourbon, neat. However, the service was really good, and the food was surprisingly delicious. We just stopped for charbroiled oysters, and she had to have her daily dose of sautéed crab claws. Both were better than we expected. A solid 3.5+.

First, the highlights were the raw oysters that were some of the best that I had during my four-day stay in New Orleans. The vodka that was infused in pickled veggies was amazing in the Bloody Mary. The service was very attentive. The areas of improvement were the shrimp po-boy, which was not very flavorful, and the breading, which was overwhelming to the shrimp. The fries were only warm, but they were crisp. The ambiance was quaint, but with this came a leaking air vent that kept dropping water on one of my dinner mates.

While visiting New Orleans for a long weekend, we made a spontaneous stop into the Royal House Oyster Bar fairly late in the evening (for us older folks), and I'm so glad we did. Our visit was on Saturday, Sept. 20th and we were seated right away by a nice young lady, and we ended up sitting where we could look out the windows. Our server was great, he was friendly, funny, and really good at his job. My wife had a fried chicken sandwich that she really liked, and I had the jambalaya, which was outstanding! I know, I know, it's fairly easy to find good jambalaya in NO, but damn....this was great! We got the full New Orleans treatment when a guy stood in the middle of the street and played his trumpet while we ate, so that was an added bonus...haha. We had a great time, were served excellent food by super nice people in a cool atmosphere- you really can't ask for anything more. Thank you to the staff at RHOB, we loved our visit to your great restaurant!

I arrived later in the day with my partner that works late and found this gem. The servers are super friendly and attentive. We decided to have an oyster overhaul and ate 24 between us, not much in retrospect. The alligator was the best I ever had ever. Don't listen to the reviews of the drunkards looking for their drinks 45 seconds later. Will return.

Amazing food with great ambiance -- if you are looking for a place to grab dinner in NOLA that is a bit more laid back with a pleasant dining experience, this is the place to go! We got the charbroiled oysters and they were to die for. For entrees, we got the crawfish etouffee which was flavorful and light. The ribeye was cooked to order, well seasoned and the garlic fries were flavorful on its own. I highly recommend swinging by Royal House Oyster Bar for a pleasant dinner -- it will leave a lasting impression and be a great experience.

Yes - GO... a great atmosphere - great servers and food is very affordable... the service is very efficient - when it is really busy... (in seasonal times) which is a plus for me. The food is fantastic and plentiful!

My friend and I went to try out this place because we thought it would be a great place to try oysters. It was pretty busy when we went, 20 min wait for the two of us. Service-wise, this place was lacking. We waited pretty long to order, get our orders, and even longer to get our checks. In the end, I had to go up to one of the staff to give my card to pay. It was a bit disappointing, but the server was nice when he first sat us down. The food was decent but nothing mind-blowing. Oysters were nice to try but really over-buttered and salty. I ordered the New Orleans sampler which came with three dishes to try (I chose jambalaya, gumbo, and etouffee). Although I liked the jambalaya and gumbo, the portions for this were terribly small- only a few bites of each dish. My friend enjoyed her Baked Gulf Shrimp Tortellini dish, though. Overall, would not necessarily recommend this place but the location is nice as you can listen to the street show music from the balconies, nicely located in the FQ.

Impeccable service, delicious food and a really cute spot to grab some food. Had the chargrilled oysters, a cup of gumbo and the ravioli and it was all amazing! I forgot our servers name but she was fantastic and when I got grease on my shirt she got me a cup of club soda so I could clean it off. Which was really kind of her. I'd definitely come back and I've been on an oyster binge during my trip and these might be my faves.

This was one of my favorite meals in Nola. Full disclosure, I was definitely intoxicated. That said.... We ordered the jambalaya and crawfish etoufee and shared it. Both dishes were so flavorful. Rice was cooked perfectly and still a little moist. The jamba had a nice kick to it but not too spicy to where you can't enjoy the flavor of the rice. We sat at the bar and service was fast and friendly. Will definitely come back!!

GREAT! Service is good, quite (rare for the FQ) , savory cajun pasta, bread and refresing drinks and highly recommend.

The perfect place for a taster of New Orleans! Outstanding Po Boy. I had the oyster PB. Darn good, maybe even the best I have ever had. Ambiance and service was outstanding and quick. Bartender and host were personable, witty and knowledgeable of not only the area but made suggestions. Recommend this fine place for everyone!

The food was decent . It's a convenient location and I love the partial outside seating . Anywhere in New Orleans you're going to get great service .

I swung by on a Thursday night to grab a quick dinner by myself. I chose to sit at the bar upstairs for a quieter experience but if you're looking for a livelier atmosphere, would recommend sitting downstairs instead. I ordered half a dozen oysters on the half shell, which were fresh, plump, and scrumptious! The crab cakes, on the other hand, were a bit overpriced for what you get in my opinion but maybe I'm a bit spoiled from all the crab cakes I've had in Maryland. However, I will admit that the sauce was delicious and jam-packed with rich crawfish flavor. The service was pretty fast and the bartender was friendly. Definitely worth paying a visit if you're in the area!

The service was great I wish I relented my servers name but she was a bartender upstairs. She was very patient and polite. But the older tall black lady was mean and rude. The interior was nice and I love the balcony upstairs. The music was nice as well. The food was subpar at best. I first order the crawfish ravioli dish wish was very underwhelming. It was three cheese ravioli you can buy from the store topped with crawfish but there was barely any on the plate. And it was also topped with crab meat. The sauce was good but that's all that was good so I sent it back and got the gulf shrimp tortellini. The tortellini was under cooked, the shrimp were small and again the sauce was the only good thing. I didn't send back again because I didn't want any problems. I spent almost $80. 2/10 will not be trying again.

I just wanna say whenever you visit New Orleans you must go here because the ambience and the service is amazing as well as the food and the drinks. The oysters Rockefeller is a must and then anything they recommend is also good. Treat yourself to a good time by eating here every time you come to New Orleans.

Service (3/5): We were told we had to wait 30 minutes for a table for 6 of us. When we were led upstairs, the whole floor was basically empty... Our waiter was overwhelmed with the few tables despite having multiple staff members run the floor. So our service was a bit slow. Ambiance (5/5): For smaller parties of 2, you can be seated on the balcony over looking the street! The inside was clean and open. The downstairs was very busy and you can also be seated at the bar. Food: Spinach and artichoke dip (4/5): The homemade (I think!) were fresh off the fryer (some chips were cooked overlapping). The dip was flavorful but a bit difficult to dip with the cheese being a huge homogenous piece. Ratio of chips wasn't enough for the amount of dip. Oysters (5/5): These oysters were HUGE and also fresh. They are shucked but the muscles were not cut. No sand in the bites. We ended up ordering more upon finishing!

We were looking for awesome places for dinners in New Orleans and this one was kind of a crap shoot - I couldn't find a ton of info on it or any real details of the food. We figured that we should go for it. OMG was this place awesome, First of all the service was insanely good. I only see this kind of service in the movies but this was what we got. Charla, our server, was 100% awesome and did everything she could to take care of us. Even the other servers who weren't taking care of us stopped by to say hi. These folks are amazing. Then the drinks came . 100% perfect. Then the food came....... Oh my the food was good. amazing. The gumbo was insane and the crawfish etoufee was the best I've ever had. Seriously, the crawfish etoufee was stellar. I'd eat it with a flip-flop. That good. Really. I'd give this place 5 stars just for that but recombination of the food, the service, and the ambience was spectacular. This is totally a 5 star establishment. Fantastic. Ask for Charla.She is a gem.

Got the oysters and shrimp poboy. Kind of disappointing. Food was just alright. Poboy not great. There are definitely better oyster spots in town.

Overall enjoyed the food! The oysters were a bit too salty for me and the toast was quite creamy (wish it had an acidic flavor to balance it), but everything was cooked well. The service was super fast and we liked our server! The restaurant has a balcony but we sat indoors upstairs which was quiet and nice.

Came as a walk in on a weds night walk walking around looking for food. Was not overly busy and was able to snag a table on the 2nd floor facing the street. Good was good but not great. The chargrilled oysters were fantastic but slightly oily. Had the jambalaya, which was just okay. The seating on the second floor balcony are slanted at a weird angle. Feels like you're going to fall off the balcony.

so we had Royal House on our list of things to do in NOLA and the food is pretty good here. The oyster toskada was really delicious. According to my friend Stacee I had the French onion soup and was pleasantly surprised was it it definitely had a little bit more mozzarella than I wanted but nonetheless it was the right portion just to keep me leveled out for lunch. The drinks unfortunately weren't anything special, hours were a little bit water down and didn't really hit the nail on the head. I saw them pumping out bloody Mary's, which 80% of the restaurant was ordering so maybe that was the drink to order Nonetheless, the service was outstanding, and we had the cutest waitress who was so sweet and attentive towards us

Came here for Oysters. Looked promising from the photos. Took over an hour and 15 minutes for 12 Oysters. The place was almost empty. They said they didn't have anyone to shuck Oysters, on a Sunday night. Wouldn't recommend unless you are patient and not that hungry and have a lot of time. They took 40 minutes to bring out the fried fish platter because they felt bad about the oysters taking long. Then when the oysters came they felt rushed and slightly burned and didn't taste that good. Also the ceiling drips condensation water onto tables where your food goes. Gross.

Fresh and delicious oysters. Service was usual for this area but efficient. Ambience was great with great balcony views.

Third time here. The oysters are still big and plump. Great food. The staff was the best. So accommodating.
