Stayed 2 nights booked Family Room and Twin Room celebrating friends birthday. Location was great Warm friendly welcome on arrival, rooms were ready before check in time which was great. Rooms were nice and spacious and very well equipped. Lovely friendly staff throughout the stay. In Family Room shower needs to be looked at, as when you turned the shower on the water was coming out everywhere which made bathroom floor soaking. Breakfast was great each morning, one of the best breakfast I have had in a hotel. Will definately stay again this was my second visit to the hotel.

Stayed the night to have easy access to the train station for an early morning trip to the airport. Room was comfortable and very clean. Jasmine was really kind and went the extra mile to make sure everything was great during my stay - thank you!

I had stayed in this hotel twice before and it has been fine. On this occasion, sadly, it wasn't great to be honest. We were sent a postcode for the car park that turned out to be a residential private car park. Then, our room was not ready due to a linen shortage. When we were able to access our room, it was tiny with furniture crammed in and with peeling paint on the walls. There was a desk with drawers that opened on their own and we had to wedge them shut with the menu card. The bathroom was shabby and the shower capable of producing only scalding hot water or an icy flow. Breakfast was good. The staff, however, were friendly and helpful apart from the lady on reception when we checked out. We were accused in a very public and embarrassing way of not having paid our bill!!! After producing proof that we had indeed paid, there was no apology. I asked for an email to confirm we had paid in full which, at the time of writing, has not been forthcoming. Just to update, I have now received an apology from the hotel which I have accepted. The complaint has been dealt with to my satisfaction.

7 of us came for lunch today, the waiter was helpful and polite, attentive without being intrusive - always a bonus! We all had the Pie of the Day, a Chicken and Leek concoction, clearly made on the premises and covered in the most beautifully cooked flaky pastry - total comfort food, super portion size, but we all managed to clear our plates, to the waiter's surprise and hopefully the chef's delight. A lovely meal out, thanks to the King's Arms

We were upgraded on arrival to one of the refurbished rooms which was very pleasant. Only niggle was the key didn't always operate the lock on leaving the room. We used the "work around" offered by reception which did work but we felt the situation wasn't ideal. Breakfast was excellent, both service and food. Looking forward to our next visit

I managed a Summer School in Lancaster where I spent 5 weeks at the hotel with over 20 guests. The team were especially helpful in working through the booking of the complexities and making us feel welcome. The rooms were lovely and food was great. The location was perfect as it's close to the rail station and the city centre as well as some rooms facing the castle. A special shout-out to Fred who was always a happy presence on arriving back and always willing to help out with any requests. Extremely highly recommended.

Fabulous central location with wonderful staff and the best breakfast ever! Rooms were quiet, beautifully furnished and the bed was lovely and comfortable. Really enjoyed finding out about the hotel's historic links and the famous people who had stayed there.

Yelp
Easy to find on walk up from train station. Friendly staff at front desk. Hotel is clearly old and 'not recently refurbished', but everything works, even the creaky elevator! Nice room. Bathroom very nice and sort of (Brit-standard 'modern') modern. Breakfast room quite fancy. Continental or cooked breakfast - I had the cereals, toast, juice'n coffee type: v.g. as expected. Staff lurks in kitchen, shoots out now and then to check on customers. Added later: been thinking about the rug salesman who'd rented the room next to the reception, downstairs. Seems to me I saw his trestle sign outside on the sloping street a few years ago. Spoke to him, as people walked past the wine bar opposite. Man must be a traveling salesman, does the tour of the country, a few days here, a few there. With his rugs. Needs some logistics for those, mind you. Spoke to him as I waited for wife+daughter to walk down from station. They stayed with Grannie in Carnforth, down the line, in her small home, and rode train up each morning, fresh and pink-faced from the bracing, moist, Lancashire air. He was friendly, knew how to speak to strangers. Easy fellow. A few customers'd walk in, look at the Persian rugs, and leave. Almost as if the rugs were a cover for something else? I paged the newspaper, waiting. 'So, from Denmark, are you?' he'd pleasantly continue when the people'd left. Waterstones next door. Upstairs balcony display area not bad, chair to snooze in, wait for family. Thumb books. Hotel has fancy bar/parlor upstairs. Dark, not bad for someone with iPad or laptop in need for some screen-time. Plugs, but bring that adaptor! Oh, the plugs . Hrm. When I plugged in the iPad adapter interesting sparking-type sounds cane from the socket. Should it do that?

Yelp
Friendly staff, sober but decent rooms. Good thing was we could store our bikes in the boardroom. And the view is very nice from room 317

Yelp
Would I come back to this place? Not even if my life depended on it. Firstly, In a shower at a hotel you'd expect the whole 9 yards; Shower gel, shampoo and Conditioner. Apparently in the Royal Kings Arms, shampoo isn't a thing. Everybody loves a bit of morning sleep, although it was slightly difficult as workers were drilling next door as renovations were in progress. Oh no and it doesn't end on that note. We came back from my sisters graduation (#congrats) and our room wasn't done, actually the beds were stripped. So we head down to the reception to investigate and apparently our room was booked for one night. This isn't a problem because we booked 3 rooms so they were all vacant and ready to be used. One room which was a single room was meant for a person staying 1 night and we made sure they knew it, however they decided to change it up and thus charged us £50. Anyway we vacated the old room and moved into the new room, to our "surprise" the lights were not working... Although there was shampoo!! But... the shower only gave out cold water but the bathtub tap only gave out hot water, so the process of being hygienic was again a struggle. Call your self a hotel aye?
