We just enjoyed 4 wonderful nights at the Royal Lahaina|From the moment we stepped out of our rental car we felt welcomed.|Checking in went smoothly and the desk clerk was very friendly |Our room was the ocean front king, worth every penny!|The balcony felt like we were sitting over the ocean, we could hear the waves, the view looking out was just spectacular!|We saw dolphins swimming past each afternoon. This would be perfect for whale watching. You could seek Molokai and Lanai.|The only possible negative was the room itself needs a freshen up, however saying that the bed was super comfortable, you can see the waves from the bed! The room and bathroom were very clean, house keeping was just wonderful. I was told by the desk that there are plans to update the ocean front rooms. I love the old Hawaiian vibe so I’m hoping they don’t modernize too much. The balcony was quite spacious |We enjoyed the beautiful grounds, there’s a nice walkway that takes you all the way to whalers village in one direction and way down the north side resorts the other way…just perfect. |The on sight restaurant is quite nice, good happy hour. We did not eat the breakfast, there’s a cute little coffee/ice cream shop for a light breakfast or lunch. The pool side bar offers all sorts of nice beverages and snacks. I can’t say enough about the lovely evenings sitting outside listening to great Maui music shared with us by some exceptional local talent. Cute little bar set up too.|We enjoyed the lack of crowds on the beach, the water was beautiful and clear.|There is a shuttle that stops in front of the hotel that will take you to whiskers village|Very good location to get on the road to explore Maui|We look forward to returning, and might try one of the ocean front bungalow with family next!

We stayed here for 7 nights. It’s a beautiful resort, with direct access to the beach. The breakfast buffet was good, the staff are friendly and very attentive. Rosie the host at the “Lahaina Noon” is very sweet, and Lulu was very attentive to our needs, thank you both. Cinthia at “Pineapple Moon” was good getting our drinks and snacks while we hung out in our cabana. “Branches” was very nice, I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere under this beautiful tree with soft live music by local artists, no mosquitoes, that was a huge bonus. One minor issue was the floor ice machine was broken for the majority of our stay, we left and it was still broken. I had to go to another floor to get ice. Overall it was a pleasant experience and a great time to relax and enjoy Maui. I’ll be back for sure.

Kind of a no frills experience. Good location, uncrowded beach. Nice to watch sea turtles swim up and down the beach. Good beach bar. Umbrella and beach chair rental good but $75/day. Pools get crowded. Tower rooms ok but smell a little moldy, would help to remove the carpet. Lighting in the bathroom sink area is dark and a challenge, ladies you know what I mean. Check-in needs improvement. There is no excuse for waiting 45 minutes to check-in while a second registration employee was literally doing nothing. Breakfast buffet is a bit sad. Put in a little effort and also get better coffee. Castaway Cafe a better breakfast option, 5 minute walk away.

Our oceanfront room did not disappoint....the views were absolutely breathtaking. The room was spacious with an extra sitting room and balcony and very clean. The grounds were very well groomed and beautiful. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The pool areas were very nice and provided adequate sitting/lounging during our stay--October-- but I could see that during a busier season, it could get quite crowded. It was nice to have a coffee/snack/ice cream shop, restaurant/bar and poolside bar/snack shop on the resort and all were pretty good--||The entertainment at Branches was a nice daily option--||We also attended the luau at Royal Lahaina--the entertainment did not disappoint but the food and the service both came up very short.||Whalers village with shopping and restaurants is about a mile away--walkable or a very easy drive--parking available but must get ticket validated or fees can get a little pricey. Maui Brewing located on the back side of the Outrigger Ka'anapali is also a good option--can park in their parking structure and validate your parking ticket as well.||Overall, I would recommend the Royal Lahaina resort and would definitely love to come back!

From the front desk to the wait staff we loved the whole trip! We are already talking about returning next year. Great location with lots to do within walking distance. We were able to grab a special so we had an upgraded room with an amazing view and complimentary tickets to the luau which is on the property. Pool areas were great and the beach was perfect location.

The resorts location at the beach is great. The food at their restaurant is delicious and the service friendly. The resort itself is getting old. The room we got at first had a great ocean view but it also got a bad smell inside. We were lucky to get another room but we had to compromise the view since we moved 3 levels down. Even though it does have AC the room is quite humid. The mirrors are dusty and not cleaned, the showers door is not clean and you can barely see through, we found many toothpaste splashes in the bathroom and cleaned it by ourselves, on the balcony everything is covered in bird poop and the luggage rack was broken and had to be replaced. Housekeeping is coming by every other day which is fine but not what we have experienced in other 4 stars resorts. The resorts fee and the parking fee is very high. The Luau at the resort is awesome. We enjoyed it so much! This was an amazing show and delicious dinner buffet with so much hawaiian culture in it. We had a great time!

Our first room was an oceanfront bungalow, it was extremely dirty and smelt like mold and had huge stains on the carpet. We moved to another bungalow, which was also dirty. We had them re-mop the floors, because our feet were almost black with dirt from walking on the floor. The shower was extremely moldy and the carpet was dirty. The restaurant was also unclean, the floors needed to be regularly cleaned and obviously were not. And the food was very disappointing. The breakfast buffet was below average with watery eggs and generic options. Also, the price to rent chairs and an umbrella for the beach was $100 for the day, which is ridiculous! Also car parking is $40 a day, which is also ridiculous! The positives were the beach, pool, pool bar service and front desk. It could be an amazing resort if more effort was made in the upkeep, cleanliness and general customer care and service.

My wife and I came to Hawai’i for the first time in our lives and chose Maui to be our full-time destination to celebrate 8 days in paradise for our anniversary. We stayed with Royal Lahaina in part because of Costco Travel’s affiliation with the resort. We found the value to be excellent at the price point and would do so again in a heartbeat. The cardio fitness center was great (didn’t use the weight room). Very clean, great equipment. There are 3-4 Peloton bikes on-site with no special cleats required for use, a rowing machine, ellipticals, and more. The view from the beach is outstanding and the water is crystal clear, making for a wonderful experience going for a swim or throwing on the snorkeling kit. We came across a sea turtle swimming near us, even though most of that type of activity is commonly found on the other side of Black Rock (an easy 10-minute walk toward the Sheraton). The location of the resort is outstanding. Easy access to Black Rock Beach, countless restaurants, Whaler’s Village (on foot or via the free Ka’anapalli Trolley that stops at Royal Lahaina), and much more. With a rental car, the island is very simple to navigate. Depending on time of day (and I’m sure the time of year), you may encounter traffic, since most of West Maui operates on a 1-lane road. Occasionally it expands to 2 lanes, but not for long. Recommendations for Dinner: Leilani’s on the Beach (Whaler’s Village) Monkeypod (Whaler’s Village) Dollie’s Pub & Cafe (pizza joint with locals) Recommended Activities: Road to Hana HaleakalĀ National Park (sunrise or sunset - we did sunset, and it was exceptional) Snorkeling in Honolua Bay - must do! Air Maui Helicopter Tour of Molokai and West Maui Forest Reserve - extraordinary views and memorable experience

Yelp
Royal Lahaina resort is my favorite place to stay every time I visit friends in Maui. It's very laid back and chill compared to a resort in Waikiki . All the staff there are very nice and friendly.

Yelp
We are here on our honeymoon and reserved in advance an ocean view but upon arrival was assigned a golf course view overlooking the bungalows. very disappointed, I had bigger expectations, all we wanted was a full ocean front view. Very disappointed considering the occasion, our honeymoon. Room description should say PARTIAL ocean view, very misleading. Also to note: -TV is very tiny, it's not the one pictured on the travel apps and it is not a smart TV and can't order pay per view or cast your phone to it. -The rooms on the golf course side overlook a very loud running air filtration system that runs 24/7, making it difficult to enjoy the room with the sliding door open and blocks out the sound of the ocean, it's quite loud. Also, we had security knock on our door in the early morning and he told us that the vape/smoke detector in our room alerted them and if it went off again they would impose charging us $500, yet we haven't smoked once inside our room or in the balcony, I get it, if we DID smoke in here it's validated but we were awoken from our sleep to be told this. -There is no microwave.

Yelp
My wife and I booked a room here for our honeymoon. We were hoping they would do something since we did state honeymoon on the notes but nothing was done. When we asked the front desk if they do anything for honeymooners, her answer was simply no. (No big deal) We got a partial ocean view room and it was nice and clean with some brown spots on the carpet. The bed was the worst thing about the room. They make so much money, the least they can do is get better beds for the rooms instead of the old spring beds. We both woke up with back pains every morning and had trouble sleeping throughout the night. We booked an ocean front cabana to just chill and relax but every single one is broken. The curtains don't close so you're baking in the sun all day long with no privacy. We literally had to follow the suns shade. We ordered food from pineapple moon and it was very pricey for the quality of food they present. All the furniture outside were dirty and had bird poop on it so we weren't able to sit anywhere by the pool. When we asked if they can do something for us for having terrible quality cabanas, they only offered to give us more towels for the pool lol. Their own employee even said he brought it up to management so many times and nothing has been done. On top of all that, the gardeners were cutting the grass all around the cabanas while we were trying to just relax after a long stressful wedding week. The breakfast buffet at Lahaina Noon wasn't that great. Kept getting attacked by flies and pigeons. I'm glad we got this trip through Costco because our breakfast was free. If you want better breakfast, go to castaway cafe just walking distance away. The Luau there was great but again, getting attacked by flies. All the food just sits out most of the time while the flies sit and fly all around it. I wasn't able to finish my food due to a fly sitting on it. Pretty disgusting and not well managed. Be ready to swat flies away the whole night. The only good thing about this resort is that they housed victims of the fire. We will not be coming back to this resort and seems like there's so many other people that feel the same.

Yelp
Rating: 2.7/5 Upon arrival, the parking lot was full, as luau show guests were given priority parking. We had to drive around for a while before finding a spot. By the time we checked in during the mid-to-late afternoon, all the amenities had already closed. Since we were checking out early the next morning, it didn't feel like we truly got our money's worth--especially after paying resort fees. We spent the evening watching the sunset from our room, walking along the beach, and relaxing in the lounge chairs. Service was just okay. I'm not sure if they were understaffed or if most of the staff left before dinner service, but we hardly saw anyone around, and it took quite a while to get a towel at the pool area. With nothing in the surrounding area open, we ended up having dinner at the resort. The property itself feels dated, and the room looked better in the Expedia photos than it did in person. The only real upside is that you can unplug and relax--but you could do that at any resort in Maui. Their luau show also seemed overpriced at $200+, so we skipped it.

Yelp
I'm putting a 1 star so people read this. The resort overall was pretty nice, room was clean. My problem was all the hidden fees they like to sneak on you... Be prepared to spend another $500 ATLEAST for parking and RESORT FEES!!! We stayed for 4 days. They charge $40 per day resort fee which was a joke. We asked what is was for: REFILLABLE WATER STATION, sunscreen, ukelele lessons that no one actually does. These are amenities that the hotel does to make themselves more appealing, why do I have to pay extra for a refillable water station. It's out of hand. Complete rip off. Why do we normalize hotels charging extra for parking when we're already paying to stay there? COMPANY GREED

Yelp
I have stayed here twice. We stayed in the tower rooms, which were definitely dated, but still had the necessities needed for the stay. This time around, we stayed at the bungalows. What I love: Service! The service is impeccable. Everyone goes above and beyond. My reservation for some strange reason to had 2 separate bookings but they were able to change and fix it . Also, because the bungalows were far to walk with luggage, they gave me a ride to my room. My concierge showed me how to get there, the access to the centerstage outside, how to get to the beach and front desk. That was really helpful! The bungalows are beautiful! If you want the updated rooms, you'll need to book a bungalow. The tower rooms are still ok. Its just outdated, but you still get a view and the same amenities. I loved that they had performances every night outside for all guests. They have chairs for everyone to enjoy. One night, Anuhea performed!! That's amazing! The last time I saw her I had to purchase tickets! So about the luau, it is so family friendly! My relatives from California came and experienced the luau for the first time. They loved the food, they enjoyed the performances. Most of all, they loved the staff. They were so accommodating with my nephews. My brother was worried because they are autistic. The staff made them feel so welcome and my nephews enjoyed it so much. By the end of the night they were dancing. The bartenders are the BEST ever. They make you feel like you've known them forever. If you want to experience the Aloha spirit this is the place. While it's an older hotel, the staff are the best at making everyone feel welcome and comfortable Overall, it was a great stay. I wish I could have stayed longer. The property is close to the beach with the BEST view of Lanai and Molokai on the horizon. They have a restaurant, the luau, the pool and beach access. The staff are amazing! They made my family's stay memorable and really went above and beyond. I have never seen my brother and his family smile so much. It truly is a hidden gem. Mahalo nui loa to all the staff at Royal Lahaina. You really made this stay unforgettable.

Yelp
A gorgeous setting on Maui's prettiest beach, with the bluest of water- but it's an aging resort of older design with hefty daily fees. The good is visible the moment you look outside, the waters here are unusually lovely, the beach is unusually pleasing, the palm trees against this setting bring back every evocative Hawaii thing you saw in your childhood. The weather is Hawaii, and this is the side of the island you want to be based for whale watching and other aquatic excursions. The bad: Like all of Maui, this isn't cheap. But the surprise is, if you came by car, there's an additional $83.62 a day (inc tax) between the resort fee and the parking. That adds up fast. This location means you almost certainly came by car- and the parking is oddly limited (I was there off-peak and it was mostly full every day). And it's fairly far from most of the rooms. And the items in the Resort Fee are quite "normal" (water fill station, the gym, wifi, coffee in the room) and should be included in the room rate. Resort fees are inherently misleading since they're used to game price-rankings, 3rd party booking site commissions, etc. Properties should do better and be honest about actual room rates. The other: This is an older resort, straight from your parents' daydreams. The pleasant open lobby area is sort of plain and offers no view. The pools are small and very small. The dining options are very limited (and despite the full parking, the one full-service restaurant was nearly empty). This isn't what most folks today expect for onsite amenities in an island resort at this price range. The quirks: The nice room has the cheapest of plastic shower heads, which pops off at a touch (when you try to adjust it). It pops right back on also, but cmon, really?? The shower experience was just so-so. There's no curtains, just those slats I pictured. Low maintenance- but not great if you wanted to sleep in. And oddly enough, my balcony was missing a table. Good: Amazing blues on the prettiest beach in Maui Bad: Hefty daily fees, limited on-site F&B, dated design It's too pretty to give below 4 stars, but be aware of the details to avoid frustration.

Yelp
We are headed home after a wonderful stay at Royal Lahaina Resort. Our room had a beautiful ocean view and we loved hearing the ocean every night. Our room was meticulously clean with staff coming in every other day to "refresh" our room. We loved the more "laid back" feeling the resort had and the proximity to the beach could not have been better! The restaurant on site was very good and our package included daily buffet breakfast which we thoroughly enjoyed!! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating!! We will definitely stay at the Royal Lahaina on our next trip to Maui!

Yelp
Overall it's a pretty resort but I feel like it's money hungry. We are currently staying here for our honeymoon, just me and my husband. Check-in was okay, but we were surprised to find out there was a $650 deposit and a $40 per day parking fee, which we weren't expecting. On the positive side, they did upgrade us to the tenth floor, which was a nice gesture. The room itself was clean, but the lamps on both sides of the bed were stained. The bed and pillows weren't very comfortable, which was a letdown. We did enjoy the partial ocean view, but were disappointed there was no microwave, especially after spending $100 on microwave food to save a bit of money. The TV also only had basic channels and felt outdated. Not a huge deal on its own, but for $500 per night, I'm not sure it's worth the price. The property has two nice pools, but for the number of guests staying, lounge chairs were almost always taken unless you paid extra to rent a cabana. A couple of times we had to leave our things on the ground because there was nowhere to sit. There are no hot tubs. The beach itself was very nice, though. The Pineapple Moon bar was extremely overpriced -- $18 for a simple vodka soda with pineapple, and $16 for crafted cocktails that were overly sweet and not worth it (though we ordered them anyway). On top of that, the bar had a strong yeasty smell, like old beer, which wasn't pleasant. The staff, however, has been very friendly. As for dining, the restaurant attached to the hotel had a very small menu with mostly fish options, averaging about $70 per person, so we skipped it. It would have been nice to have more variety since it's the main restaurant on site. The highlight of our stay has definitely been the breakfast. It's different every day and very tasty, which has been a wonderful way to start our mornings. On the downside, some things have been frustrating: the $40 per day parking fee, the lack of a microwave (which meant we ended up ordering Doordash or eating very small meals), and the $650 deposit. While the deposit is refundable, it's hidden in the fine print on their website -- something that should absolutely be made clear upfront before booking. For a honeymoon trip, it felt a bit discouraging to run into those unexpected costs. Overall, I don't think we would stay here again, especially for a honeymoon. It just didn't feel honeymoon-friendly, and even though we mentioned it in the notes when booking, nothing was acknowledged or done to make it feel special. That was disappointing. I do think it could be a better fit for families, since the pools and beach are nice for kids, but for couples looking for a romantic or relaxing getaway, I wouldn't recommend it.

Yelp
The hotel leaves a generally pleasant impression: the staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are cozy. However, there were several issues that really affected our stay. The shower in our room was old and almost falling out of the wall, which made using it quite inconvenient. We had a room with a partial ocean view, but right under our windows were loud air conditioning units with intense vibrations -- not exactly relaxing. The hotel restaurant deserves a special mention, and unfortunately not in a good way. I love fresh greens and vegetables, but the only option available was some basic leaf lettuce -- and it consistently came with bugs in it. When I asked the staff to let the manager know, I was told, "We have bug repellents for flies, but they just weren't working today." The problem wasn't flies -- it was clearly unwashed produce. All in all, the hotel isn't terrible, but it definitely doesn't live up to its price.

Yelp
Stopped by the Branches after dinner at Lahaina Noon. The Branches is a laid back venue at the Royal Lahaina and Bungalows. There is outdoor entertainment 6-9 pm under this beautiful tree each night. Lounge chairs, food and drink cart and outdoor restrooms are available. Free parking and free entry. Great spot to relax after a full day.

Yelp
We stayed here, in 2021 and had no intention of coming back. Our bungalow was badly outdated and in need of repair. But there was a great deal at Costco, and we saw that the bungalows were renovated so we gave it another try. Our bungalow was cute, and clean, with a retro feel. Not a deal breaker, but there is no light switch at the entry. You have to use the lights on the bed stands. Additional hooks for towels in the bathrooms would also be useful. We liked the mid-sized fridge and freezer, great for snacks, leftovers and cold drinks. There is only one restaurant. Food is good, but easily $100 for only two entrees, with tax and tip. Breakfast buffet is very limited. We ate there every day, service is ok, some people were very friendly, while others need an attitude adjustment. There are other options in Whaler's Village or other hotels nearby (within a 30min walk). Lots of clean, green space and beautiful paths along the golf course and beach. Excellent for running or a nice quiet stroll. Beach is pristine. Two pools, including one that appeared to be geared for adults (8ft deep, bar and cabanas). We found the hotel to be very peaceful. Overall, the updates to the hotel made a huge difference, and we enjoyed our stay. The location is great, and we will probably be returning. Tip: There is a small historic landmark, the remains of an old pier, at the edge of the grounds. If you walk across the concrete beam you can see lots of black and bright yellow fish in the water.

Yelp
Amazing staff and service! Their hospitality at the Royal Lahaina was the best I've had on my many trips across the world. The beach front view was spectacular, and the resort was such an amazing community where we met so many other great couples. If you're looking for more than just a place to stay, this is it!

Yelp
First time staying in Maui and this hotel was perfect. Great location. Beyond beautiful beach. Cabanas are fun to rent. Room with partial ocean view are nice! Recommendation: the pool bar does have a little bit of a smell (rotten fruit?), the gym is amazing but could use mirrors and cold towels in the weight room, it would be great to trim the bushes in front of the cabanas so we can see the water. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Loved the property and everything about our stay! The partial ocean view was great because we got to see the golf course, mountains, pool, and ocean! Everyone was very friendly. Our package included the breakfast buffet at Lahaina Noon and we loved it! We ate breakfast outside every day and enjoyed the views and whale watching every day. Ending our days Under the Branches for live music and lowkey vibes was great too.

Yelp
Just got back from a stay at the Royal Lahaina, this is my third time staying at this resort in the past 10 years. TL;DR: I really like the Royal Lahaina. The staff are nice, the location is incredible convenient to the beach and local restaurants, and there are always plenty of chairs available to lounge around in the sun near Pineapple Moon. The bad: The last time I stayed was in 2019 and the price of everything has significantly increased. Hotel rooms have a cost increase of at least 50% and the daily self-parking price increased from $15 a day to $40 dollars a day, for the same parking lot. You also have to share the parking area with the Myths of Maui customers. I don't mind that the rooms are dated but, I did have to put in a maintenance request on day one of my stay because the AC wasn't cooling the towel room I was in. I also wish that there was a slightly more advanced hot beverage option than the in-room Keurig, because I wanted hot water for a cup of tea. The good: The beach is right outside the hotel and there are two pools available if you aren't feeling the salt water. There is and abundance of deck chairs including two sets of really thick-cushion lounge chairs that I am not so secretly obsessed with. Filtered water is available both inside and outside the first floor of the hotel, so you can use your own water bottle, but cups can be found near Pineapple Moon (when open) if you need one. I chose to get a light breakfast each morning at Royal Scoops and ate a few lunches and dinner at Lahaina Noon. The food won't knock your socks off, and the menu is overpriced, but it's convenient and filling. The great: The area around the Royal Lahaina is gorgeous and it's surrounded by walking paths. I really only needed my car to drive to my dinner reservations and the rest of the time I could walk to local restaurants and stores. The staff are so so so nice. Both Virgie and Kennedy at the front desk were incredibly helpful and the woman running the morning shift at Royal Scoops was so patient with my decaffeinated self. The valets always smiled and greeted me whenever I came through the front entrance, and one of them even offered to drive me and my luggage from the parking lot on his cart when he saw me walking with it. There are some incredibly good snacks/drinks to be found at the hotel. The butter mochi and Lappert's ice cream at the Royal Scoops was awesome and the bartenders at Pineapple Moon consistently hit it out of the park with their Lava Flows. I also got an incredible deal on a vacation package for this hotel from Costco vacations. My past two visits were booked directly through the hotel's website, but due to the cost increases I mentioned above, I did some additional research for this trip and chose differently this time. As I mentioned above, I really like the Royal Lahaina. I'm absolutely going to stay here a 4th time and when I do I know I'm going to have a fantastic time.

Yelp
I didn't stay at the resort but have attended two different community events here and was blown away each time by the friendly and generous help from this resort: Prom Pop Up - after the tragic fires many Lahaina families lost everything when their homes burned so Ellies Bridal in Kihei worked with a number of charities and the Royal Hawaiian to set up a prom pop up for middle and high school students to receive free prom outfits donated by locals and folk from the mainland. The Royal Lahaina Resort provided a fantastic area to set up his n hers boutiques with changing rooms which worked wonderfully. It was such a magical feeling to volunteer and assist students in finding their perfect prom outfit, they were all so thankful and happy, it really melted your heart. Without the Royal Lahaina Resort it would have been really hard to hold this event! Paint Maui Children's Plein Air paint session - As part of the plein air painting festival the Royal Hawaiian generously donated a morning in one of their open air meeting rooms for keiki to come along and learn to paint and express themselves in acrylics. This was a free event and the Royal Lahaina Resort provided free bento box lunches (Chicken nibbles with BBQ sauce, macaroni cheese, healthy fruit cups and a huge POG punch drink dispenser, and an iced water one too). The children, a mix of local keiki and visiting kiddos had a wonderful morning creating and expressing themselves and having a healthy lunch afterwards in the sunshine. All thanks to the generosity of the Royal Lahaina Resort! The resort also offers a fantastic Luau which employs many locals as well as the resort itself. It is really a landmark on Maui, and it's community inclusion is exemplary.

We were staying here for a week for a wedding and it was beautiful! The bungalows were great! Only note is they have a fridge/freezer but not a kitchen to cook anything. The pools were beautiful and right next to beach access which was very convenient. Every night they had live music by the bungalows which we loved! Most of the staff was friendly! We would stay here again!

Yelp
We were there for four nights and the room was kind dirty and the bathroom glass was all stained and old. The spring bed was bad the only good thing was just the view. They also cleaned our room every other day n we still pay full price. If you want clean towel you have to ask for it

Yelp
Beautiful and relaxing! The rooms are a bit dated, but having a view of the ocean and direct access to the beach made it all worth it! it's also really close to an area with a bunch of restaurants and shops, though somewhat far from some of the other activities on the island. They do rent out snorkels and other gear, but it's pricey. They also have free sunblock from a giant communal bottle. There are comfortable chairs overlooking the ocean and a beautiful pool, too! There was a loud wedding one night we were there, but all sound stopped at 10, so it wasn't too bad. We loved it and plan to stay again in the future!

Yelp
spoke to general manager nicholas & he resolved my issues. mahalo. my 2 star review is mostly due to the customer service & housekeeping department. our flight got delayed nearly 24 hours while i was at the airport already delayed 6-7 hours on 7/15 so i promptly reached out to royal lahaina to inform them i would instead be checking in on 7/16 due to matters beyond my control (delayed flight after being deplaned). the customer service representative on the phone initially told me that i may still be charged for the 7/15 night despite us not being here, but said i could potentially receive an upgrade or other incentive for my trouble if i speak to the manager upon my arrival. ok, cool. fast forward to 7/16. i checked in & explained the situation & asked to speak to a manager. i was informed that the manager was on an hour break, but they would follow up with me & try to resolve this issue. however, the customer service rep i spoke to the day prior actually wrote a note on my file stating "do not refund" for the one night we weren't here. incredible. i didn't receive any communication from the "manager" despite being promised it would happen. yesterday, on 7/17, i spoke to VIRGIE who hastily told me that the "manager" would essentially tell me the same thing & not refund me or provide any sort of incentives (breakfast, food credit. etc.) but would speak to her manager. her "front desk manager" GINA then came out, basically said the same, & said she already talked to her manager. the thing is, where was i during this communication? & why were we not contacted earlier by "management"? i had to initiate the conversation. they explained that the room was held therefore i was charged the full amount because i didn't give a 72 hour notice. how would i know 6-7 hours into my delayed flight after being deplaned due to "unsafe aircraft condition" on the day of check in that it would ultimately be rescheduled to the next day? insane. keep in mind, i booked these rooms on march 29th! i also noticed other travelers checking receiving free this, free that, food & beverage credit this, etc. who booked their reservations after i did "because it was a part of their package" - they had room to incentivize us with something since we spent $500 on a night we weren't even there. i booked directly with the "resort" also! they couldn't even remove the resort fee for that night? i don't think so. $500 is nothing to royal lahaina, but for a small family it's a large expense. the way we were treated is pitiful. zero compassion, understanding, etc. i would never recommend anyone to stay here. the rooms are dated & we even had to phone housekeeping 4 times to fill our soap dispenser when we arrived into the next day. the 1 day of housekeeping services we received (only provided every other day) was not up to standards too. my daughter had her hairbrush & her pajamas on the bed so i guess that means she doesn't get a linen change or her bed made? they also didn't empty our trash or tidy up in the slightest. the only thing i could recognize is that they removed our dirty towels. we even had to ask for more towels since they left us barren. i'm deeply disappointed with our experience here. i visit the hawaiian islands every year & this was my second time staying at the royal lahaina. never a-fucking-gain. two stars given for location & beach access. the two things this place got right. p.s. lahaina moon is overpriced & mediocre. flavorless tofu & lackluster garlic butter hawaiian rolls.

Yelp
Horrible sewage smell!!!!! July 2025 Terrible , horrible sewage smell in the sink faucet and drain!!!! Housekeeping did not clean our glasses and cups or replace them. Lipstick stains still found on them!!

Yelp
The Property was nice. Both Pool Areas were Dirty. With garbage left for the whole time we were there. Dirty spoons, napkins. Bird poop on the Umbrellas, Lounge Chairs. Never wiped down or cleaned. Sand all around the decks, with cracks in the concrete! Lounge chairs some were broken. Resort Fee was $48.00 per day! For what beach towel and as stated not an attractive Pool Areas. Parking was expensive $40.00 a day. Which was hard to come by for spaces. Breakfast Buffet was okay, nothing to talk about. The photos online show it as an Awesome Resort!

Yelp
We went on an afternoon walk and stumbled into the Royal Lahaina. I had no idea the robust history behind the place. This establishment delivers unparalleled value. Management has spent money on the right places. Food was delicious and plates were well sized. Drinks and service were perfect. The view is unparalleled. I can't wait to come back and spend a week or more at the Royal Lahaina.

Yelp
The beautiful resort was closed for a year so they can house the fire victims, which was a tremendous relief for the locals. Now that they are back in business, I am grateful and happy to be staying at this resort. The staff was amazing, the food was great, exceptional snorkeling nearby and the accommodations were fantastic. They have nightly entertainment by local artists and the Kaanapali Golf Course is next to the property.

Tyler M.

Yelp
Overall, an amazing experience. The property is right on the most stunning beach and has plenty of amenities. It's right by a shopping center and the rest of the island is very accessible. The room was perfect the pictures on the website don't do it justice. Literally the only downside was no microwave. My wife and I felt at home which is not common for a hotel. It feels like you're staying at a five star exclusive hotel without breaking the bank. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone trying to experience Maui in high fashion without breaking the budget.

Yelp
Just had an amazing visit to Maui and stayed at the Royal Lahaina. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful for recommending activities around the resort. Our room was large and the balcony was perfect for sitting and reading. We had the breakfast buffet included with our stay. It never felt too busy ( but we were always there around 7am, so I can't speak for later in the day) and the food was a solid start to the day. Pools were clean and plenty of chairs so we never felt like we were waiting for space to open. The best part was the beach being just steps away from the pool. The beach was never busy and a bit away from the touristy zone, so it felt a bit more secluded. Highly recommend. Special shoutouts to Bea, Cara, and Athena. They made our experience at the restaurant even better. Hoping to return in the future!

Yelp
Hawaii is beautiful so it outweighs the not super great experiences. They had overbooked so we were upgraded to a bungalow if you call it an upgrade. It would be if it's just 2 people in a room, but instead of 2 beds, its 1 bed and a roll away which i feel is worse than what we reserved. The workers at the pool were not around to simply hand out towels and were rude when they finally show up. Otherwise, it's fine cuz you're out alot anyway, but it's nothing special.

Leslie P.

Yelp
This hotel is just...fine. I do want to support Lahaina post fires and honestly that's good enough for me to stay here. But other than that, I won't be back. My room was filthy and smelled like urine. All the surfaces were sticky and / or stained. Carpet and tile in my room were stained. I always like to choose and oceanfront room in Hawaii and did so here as well. I wouldn't describe it as ocean "front" although it had a beautiful view of the ocean. Oceanfront in my experience is you can walk right out to the ocean from your room. Staying in a bungalow would've been a better choice for that. Those looked nice although they must be noisy with the pools right next to them and guests walking around outside your door. The events were a draw and I signed up for most of the ones happening during my stay. Unfortunately, the coconut demo, the ukelele lessons, hula lessons, and I think it was a jewelry making lesson all didn't happen. The music on Friday night was great and popular. Definitely check that out. The movie was great although I was the only one. I wonder if they're just not well attended that the instructors just don't show up. They're free so I guess I can't really complain. The luau was fine. Def get vip seating if you want to see anything. It has a ton of attendees so getting in front is important. They have your seats assigned ahead of time so no need to get there any earlier. It's all you can eat but you really only get one trip to the buffet before the show starts so make it count! Parking tip: don't tell them you have a car. It's $40/day and all they do is ask if you brought a car so they can charge you. I parked there for 5 days no issues. Theres only one restaurant on property and it's not great. (There's an ice cream shop with some snacks and prepared salads/sandwiches in a pinch.) Skip the buffet breakfast! There's eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, some breads and they're not even quality. They should really just serve it a la carte but maybe it's to have less servers. Also! Do not sit outside!!!! The place is absolutely taken over by birds. They literally tell you to not leave your food unattended and have someone stay at the table to keep birds away. It's not one or two--they're everywhere. They're on the tables, ground, server stations, trays,... sit inside! You'll still have a view. The spa, again, was fine. Nothing great. The massage I had was fine. Facials they only do one or two days a week so if you miss it, they don't have employees for facials other days. They don't have an airport shuttle and the company they recommended had terrible reviews. Get an uber or a rental car.

Yelp
Loved it here! I wasn't sure to expect after reading it was an older hotel on the beach, but it's been renovated and is very modern while still keeping a vintage Hawaiian vibe. Loved the resort restaurant and proximity to other restaurants/shopping! The pool is unheated though so we never stayed in for longer than a few minutes. It is a nonsmoking property, which is nice, but unfortunately people would go in the public bathrooms, pool chairs, or just out on the balcony next to us and sneak a smoke. We tried to tell the front desk, but they informed us that they had to catch someone in the act in order to ask them to stop. It makes sense, just was unfortunate there really wasn't a way to enforce the no smoking laws.

Yelp
Upon entering we were greeted by the most helpful staff, mahalo to Stacey, who was nothing but helpful and sweet to me and my partner. We were then driven to our room and given a tour of the property on the way to our room. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable and not outdated. There a few spots here & there with scuffed door frames or very minor blemishes, but it doesnt effect the experience. In the spirit of honesty, yes the walls are a little thin, but we chose to go to bed at early times when our neighbors decided to be social and you could hear the neighbors very clearly. The music at Branches is lovely and is barely audible from our specific bungalow. This is a resort and some partying is to be expected, but some insulation would be helpful. My only other gripe is that Happy Hour "hours" should be posted at the bar by the pool with a menu posted, not just a menu handed to you, makes ordering easier. The shows at Branches under the tree are nightly at 6 pm! We were lucky enough to have a Friday night Branches performance by a full band called "Nuff Sedd" which was magical. The other performances are local performers that usually are one person on an instrument or 2. Very intimate, very fun, very entertaining. There is a bar cart for beverages you can order during the show as well. The pools are so nice. There are 2 pools, one by Pineapple Moon (bar/bites) and one by Lahaina Noon (restaurant/bar) Next to the pool and restaurant is a building for renting out gear for play, such as kayaks, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, floaties etc. You have a $50 credit to use everyday, so use it for these fun options. The beach is so private and relaxing. This entire property is very family friendly, but not over run by children which is very nice. Whalers Village is about a 15 minute walk from the resort, very fun area to go to for drinks, food, views. If you dont want to walk, there is a trolly! The food at Royal Lahaina is great, they have a new menu and a chef that deeply cares about how the food is curated, sourced, and prepared. They have a passion for food you can taste in every meal. We had the Chicken Masala and a noodle dish and some apps. Very delicious. Cocktails were fun, nothing to really expand on them, people were always getting drinks which is a good sign, and prices were standard for most bars. We had a little hiccup in our trip (a visit to the ER due to a preexisting condition) we had to be more mindful of our spending. Rather than eating out every night, we went to the local grocery store and got meat to cook on the gas fired bbqs they have in the garden area. Just ask for some to go boxes and cooking tongs. We made burgers and veggies on the grill which was delicious and a big money saver. Just be respectful and clean up after yourself. The area where you cook is gorgeous as well, so bring your partner or family and enjoy it together! As far as activities on site, there is bocci ball, shuffle board, corn hole, and fun cultural/physical activities you can do. The activities like yoga, ukulele, hula lessons you need to book, but the bocci ball, shuffle board and corn hole are open all the time. I highly recommend doing the morning Yoga, it's very relaxing and an invigorating way to start the day. It's ocean front on the grass, so it's gorgeous as well. We wanted some relaxation so we went to the spa to get a massage. We were greeted by a lovely woman named Karen who got us with our therapists and showed us some great products to take home that are only made on the Island. We decided to do the outdoor massage treatment, our therapists were in tune with what we needed and were masters at their craft. Tips/gratuity are included in the price. After our massage they asked what we were going to do the rest of the trip and we told them one of the things we planned was snorkeling. They told us to do it right at our beach at the resort and to listen underwater and you can hear the whales singing to eat other, it was very moving and memorable. As far as the resort fees/ parking fees, Im happy to pay them, wish they were a bit lower considering we have a resort fee. Over all, we will be coming back and cannot express enough of our gratitude to this resort, its staff and the community. Mahalo for taking care of us, letting us experience this magical place and treating us like family. (This is an LGBTQ friendly resort)

Yelp
overall our room has been great however each accommodations $225 for a full day cabana is renting it until 12 we're unable to use until 11:30. When we arrived at the hotel, none of the cabanas were even rented seems like a scheme to make money. Seems like a waste of a beautiful cabana when no one rinse them.

Yelp
Amazing resort!!! My parent's have visited this resort for years and the staff has become like family! Most recently, it was my Mother's birthday and Ford, Chef Mike, Yvette and many others went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure it was extremely special for her! Ford even got a custom cake with her name on it! It was an EPIC birthday and I appreciate everyone at the Royal Lahaina!

Yelp
I can't get over how absolutely incredible this experience has been for us. I arrived a day late after accidentally booking us for the wrong day, and Stacey went above and beyond to make this vacation an absolutely magical experience for us. We've had some serious struggles over the last few years and this was our chance to reset. Long story short, due to the mistake I made with our booking, I though our vacation was toast, but Stacey went to bat to make our vacation an absolutely stunning experience. The end result for what she helped coordinate for our family brought tears to my eyes. She's an angel, and our stay here couldn't have gone any better. It wasn't just Stacey who was amazing though - literally everyone else we've come in contact with who works here has been so above and beyond. The friendliness of the staff is so genuine and so very appreciated. I haven't even gotten to the resort yet - the location is stunning. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant downstairs watching the sunset over the ocean. Need I say more? This is a fantastic resort. If you're on the fence, just book. You won't regret it.

Yelp
We have been going to the Royal Lahaina for 13 years. We just got back a week ago. This use to be a great resort. All the rooms are dated. Beds are old. The parking used to be $10 a day. Now $40 . I don't remember a resort fee ,but now $45 a day. The Mai Tai is $17. They sold this place about 3 years ago and now your nickel and dimed for everything. Not the Hawaiian feel I use to get there. New food menu and not so good and very pricey. We probably will not return. The staff is great and the location is wonderful. It's so expensive now and really is not worth coming here. I'm sure most of Maui is the same, but it's ashame this resort has changed so much..

Yelp
First... if you are hesitating about going to Maui after the fires, don't. They need the tourism! Despite some of the 'tude I read online, I never encountered a single local or worker who wasn't thrilled we were there. Lots of aloha! The town of Lahaina itself is pretty much gone, but Kaanapali in general is very much functional and beautiful. One caveat: do not ask locals about the fire. They will talk to you about anything except that. So many of them were affected and continue to struggle. Can you imagine being asked about a traumatic event every single day? Just don't. We stayed 8 days at this beautiful resort. If you appreciate an old Hawaii vibe, with the amenities of a true resort, your choices in Kaanapali are really this, or Outrigger. I'm one of those people: I appreciate the open air lobby with the scent of plumeria and the Hawaiian music. I don't love a chain hotel in Hawaii, especially near Lahaina where so many locals are still trying to get back in their feet after the fires. The rooms and pool areas have been recently renovated here, but still in an authentic way. We chose a tower room and were upgraded on arrival to a higher floor. That was a win because we were there for New Years and it allowed us to see some of the island fireworks in the distance. the views are incredible, even from a non ocean view room Highly suggest requesting floors 6-12! The room was spacious and the balcony was a lovely place to sit in the early AM and late afternoon. Is the resort a 4/5 star? No, not quite. It was missing some little touches that would get it there. Biggest issue: no room service. I would also suggest some sort of unique gift ... a vintage postcard, a Hawaiian snack, fresh flowers in the room...something. But it is a true resort: there are activities, restaurants, luau etc. That's important to know because it is common to find accommodations on the islands that charge a hefty "resort fee" but really have nothing to show for it . Pros: --restaurant, Lahaina Noon, was lovely but the menu is just a bit too "out there" for me. The combo of that and the higher price compared to other restaurants in walking distance had eating there just once. That said, the pool bar was nice and you could get the Lahaina Noon menu there. Pro-tip: there is a cute little beach front restaurant that is an easy stroll at the resort next door: Castaway. Ate there several times. --beach is pristine and the activities guys were great -- you can rent snorkel stuff, boards, and daily cabanas. Sunscreen and after sun lotion are included which is super nice since it saves you buying the required reef safe variety ( don't bring sunscreen from home to Hawaii!). I did a cabana one day and I highly recommend BUT I think the resort should sweeten that deal with something for the $100 pricetag because it oddly doesn't come with wait service maybe a cooler with bottled water, or two free cocktails or something? -The Branches is a cool live music venue out on a lawn each night. Free. Again, local Hawaiian vibes, which I loved. It is beautiful. I saw another reviewer complain about the noise. I can understand that. The resort might want to consider designating the bungalow buildings around they lawn as "island sounds" like they do "ocean view" rooms so guests know what they are getting. --We have been to the island before so we chose to forego the $1k rental car. The FREE trolley got us most of the places we needed--Whalers (the mall and restaurants) and the golf course. Ubers and Holoholo (local version of Uber) were available for the rest. --Royal Scoop, a coffee/deli was amazing. Every day had new local pastries and sandwiches and salads. I discovered some new Hawaiian treats here, and it was affordable. Cons --No room service. I don't get this when they already have quality catering and a restaurant on property. Missed opportunity, IMO. Time to bring this back after COVID. --Housekeeping was a bit unpredictable. It was suppose to be every other day (again, not 4/5 Star policy, but OK). They didn't show up one day. Another day they came very late when we were getting ready for dinner. The quality was great . Just the timing. One day we got surprise orchids on our bed which was very sweet! -- The spa was not open on the weekend. I was prepared to drop several hundred dollars here but when I went to book, it was a no-go. The spa in general could use some promotion... maybe a card at check-in or a discount for guests? I had no idea they had outdoor cabana massages until the day I left and saw a beautiful facility (separate from their usual location) in the day I left (which was closed).

Yelp
I give this resort a 3.5 rating. It wasn't a dump but it wasn't amazing either. Upon arriving when you walk in they have calming Hawaiian music playing and a lovely sweet aroma pumping out within the lobby. That was a nice touch. They were friendly and helpful when we checked in. Side note: I booked via Costco Travel (which I love by the way and have never had an issue). We had 4 people, 2 adults and 2 kids. The booking agent obviously knew we had 4 staying in 1 room. She booked a 1 King bed (which I knew about)... she assumed it would fit 4 people as it was allowing her to book it, and I also just figured it would have a pull out couch (many hotels do). Whelp, that was WRONG. Now we were booked with ONE bed for 4 people {2 of them being 16 year olds so not small kids}. THANKFULLY the guy checking us in was able to find us an available room with 2 double beds. I don't even want to begin what it would've been like with only have 1 bed. We had an ocean view (which I LOVE!), a small fridge, coffee maker and little counter space. The room seemed a bit on the older-ish side. Again, not horrible but it certainly wasn't glamorous. The grounds were nice/pretty and well kept. It was easy access out to the beach. The pool area wasn't anything special and the jacuzzi wasn't working. :-/

Yelp
All I can say is, this place is Paradise on earth! From the room to the service, everything is perfect. They've got live music nightly at the branches and the luau omg that was the most authentic luau I've been to

Yelp
First time to Lahaina in many years and first time since the fire so we didn't know what to expect. I heard this hotel recently was renovated and it was the same property as our tennis tournament so we got the special group rate and booked it! After some confusion since the front desk told us 12th floor but we were on 11 (we tried unsuccessfully to get into someone else's room so I had to call downstairs), we got into our room. The layout is very nice, has a bar that is also the sink for the bathroom, we got 2 full beds, and a nice balcony that looks out to the ocean. The biggest perk was that it was right on property for the tennis which made waking up and going for warm ups easy. If you're staying with the kamaaina rate, you get free parking. But with our group rate you have to pay which is still cheaper than the kamaaina hotel rate. My friends checked out the restaurant for lunch and they said it was pretty good. I would def stay here again especially if the tournament is here. The beds were really comfy I slept like a baby!

Yelp
This place has been one of the best resorts I have ever stayed in. The people working. That were very welcoming, very respectful, and just overall great service. They were genuine and very helpful. I would highly recommend staying here. I will definitely be staying at this resort Every time I come to Maui! Their rooms were very clean, and every worker was very kind and helpful.

Yelp
So Yelp wants to ask you what went well... We had an experience in January where there were some issues with our stay but the staff did everything they could to remediate the issues which shows real quality and professionalism. We always think the true test of any organization is how they deal with anything that occurs as a problem. In our recent stay/July 2025... All five stars across the board! Front Desk Manager, Gretchen, is truly exceptional and a real asset to this organization and property. The staff in general, just wonderful makes us feel like family with all the TLC. Everyone at the front desk really delightful taking their cue off their manager and her strong customer focus. Kennedy and everyone else at the front desk just wonderful! The bellmen, also just the best you could expect, Erwin and Jacob just to mention a couple that really have gone above and beyond to assist us! Housekeeping staff also delightful, efficient during this day we were very impressed with the service and friendliness of housekeeper Esther. We had a need for extra towels because of a tennis tournament and she was quick to accommodate. We were also quite fortunate that the hotel/resort was able extend our stay an extra night due to some change in circumstances. The restaurant is always lovely too with great service and delicious food. Thank you Micheal for your fast and focused service at Lahaina Noon Restaurant. We could say more but just suffice it to say... service makes the difference in anything and this team has worked hard to put service at the forefront and to lean into both strong customer relationships and service. The property is lovely, beautiful grounds, stunning Maui views, live music most nights, even a fire pit near the ocean at night which makes everything feel very cozy and extra charming. ***** Definitely five stars starting with Gretchen and everyone else mentioned in this review. We know that some of the rooms are in dire need of upgrade. But during this most recent stay we have no complaint or concern about anything! We just could take a deep breath and completely relax and know that if we didn't have something handled the staff here would figure out how to help us get things right or get things handled. Thank you Royal Lahaina Resort and Bungalows for another great stay with you.

Yelp
Basically a 2 Start Motel with resort dressings... We had initially booked through my credit cards travel - the pictures looked amazing, I booked the beach bungalow because I thought how nice that would be.. I was wrong. First of all we went to two different rooms because the first one was not expectable all. In the end they both had the same issues so we had to waste time on our vacation haggling for a cleaner room. Here are the issues: - Rooms both smelled musty/moldy - - as soon as we entered the musty smell hits your in the face. - Carpets are very stained, blackened and very very gross. - BUGS in each of the rooms, particularly in the sinks - - there were nats EVERYWHERE in the room. - Super out dated furniture: - Bed Sheets were gross because of these issues we had to haggle with the front desk. Rather than taking accountability they blamed our credit card travel program for "over selling" the room... for 350+/night and a '4 star' mark I don't think its the credit cards 'over selling'.. Finally, after what felt like negotiating for a used car (the guy had to go back and forth between us and his manager to see what they can do) they finally, reluctantly gave us a room in their tower. This room was better than the bungalow, meaning it was like a low level 3 start room rather than the motel feeling in the bungalows.. except THE SHOWER HEAD WAS BROKE.. lol You cant make this up. The shower had was literally just a hose without a mount... we were so over it at this point we just dealt with it for fear that they would put us back in the disgusting beach bungalow motel rooms.

Yelp
Update. Spoke to corporate- very professional and working with us to resolve the issue. Very appreciative.

Yelp
Tranquility, peace and serenity. Just some of the words I can think of when you're standing on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Something about the sound of waves crashing that puts me at ease. Aside from the beautiful ocean front views, 2 really cool pools, the ocean front restaurant, ice cream shop, boutique, activity center, and Luau really I can on with a long list of what this place has to offer. How can I forget the walkway access along the beach!! Not only is this place peaceful the staff is also very friendly. They make you feel very welcomed and treat you more like family than a guest. I wouldn't mind staying here every time.

Yelp
This is a rare occasion... leaving such a low mark, when I really enjoyed my time in Lahaina and the amazing people. At first It just didn't feel right leaving the "2-stars", but the more and more I thought about it, I have to be honest. That's why we come to read the reviews on Yelp!! Right ?! Overall the resort is a high 3.0 stars with room for improvement. Located perfectly on the beach and breathtaking views all around. Local marketplace with Round Table Pizza, local coffee shop, sushi house and market within 1 mile /walking distance of the Towers, where I was staying. Whalers village walk was only 20 minutes! Great for folks like me who didn't rent a car. The staff at the desk were clearly told "don't budge", when it came to room requests beyond what you paid for or simply reserved in advance, without paying additional. Well, I expected that upon my arrival at check-in. However, the next morning I woke up to find tiny "worm-like" bugs all over the floor, at the entrance/kitchenette area. Unfortunately, the bugs were so small, almost the size of the tip of a ball-point pen, and an opaque color, that I did not come to see them until the next morning when the sun was bright and I was up making coffee in my room and turned on the entryway lights...to my shock, the tiny insects seem to be coming from inside the cabinets onto the tile floor...all over that area. I was pretty grossed out - did not expect this ... and Yes, I know that I'm on an island and bugs are to be expected. But this was NOT normal or unnoticeable. Made me even wonder when the last time the room was inspected. After I quickly showered, I make my way down to the front desk to explain the matter and ask for a new room. The woman basically laughed the matter off, saying something like "oh, these little bugs fly around here everywhere". But I reiterated these bugs were not flying at all! They were crawling on the ground, tens of these tiny insects and appear like "worms", not a flying insect. She raises her eyebrows and said she can send someone up to clean it... I wanted to give them a chance to see what I was seeing, and give me a room I felt comfortable in...I didn't want to get bit for goodness sakes! After a few hours, a man finally arrived at my room with a rag and a spray bottle! HUH?! I kindly explained what I was seeing and he went to spray the area down and clean what was there. I went to the patio for a moment to let him do his job, and not inhale all that cleaning solution...and in less than 5 minutes, when i walked back over to the entranceway, he was gone! Nothing about a new room, what those bugs were... no words, he just left. And the worst part was, there were now a few bugs that made their way to the bathroom (adjacent to the entryway). I decided to take this up with a manager and call down to the front desk this time... to my dismay, the landline phone was disconnected!! At this point, I was over the frustration and simply decided to enjoy my first time in Maui. I chose to make it a great trip and DID NOT let this experience at the resort ruin my entire trip. Sadly, I didn't feel comfortable in my room, stayed outside as much as possible... and got a sunburn. LOL Sometimes you have to just laugh and take the good with the "not so good". All and all, Royal Lahaina Resort could do better in their support from Front Desk Services and Hotel Cleaning (that is the cause of the 2-stars). Will always love Hawaii. Aloha.

Yelp
Royal Lahaina has been the most disappointing part of our trip to Maui. Long check in line - I don't blame them for this because we arrived on Christmas Day. However, I walked in and stood in line with another couple in front of me. 6 mins pass and the Bell boy told another couple that just arrived that the check in line is around the corner. So basically everyone that arrived after us cut in front of us. Strike 1. However the lady that checked us in was extremely kind. We booked a Bungalow Junior Suite. Somewhat ocean view but with 2 bungalows and a tree blocking the view - that's fine. We are right next to the music that happens every night from 6-9 pm. The 1st night was hard due to the time change but it was okay after that. The walls are PAPER THIN! We heard every single thing that happened next door to us. Parents yelling. Kids wrestling and laughing. TV. Even cell phone alarms that go off at 4 am. And I'm sure they heard everything that went on in our room as well. Just a warning. Strike 2. Housekeeping NEVER came to our room. They are suppose to come every other day. So when day 3 came and left. Nothing. Called for towels at 5:48 pm. My husband and daughter were at the pool and I stayed behind to wait. By 6:12 they still haven't arrived... so I left. My husband went to go get dinner so we went back up at 6:38. I called at 6:42. Housekeeping, no answer. Front desk, no answer. Back to housekeeping. Finally picked up. Told them the issue and said they would come. Didn't come until 7:14 pm. Asked to pick up trash also. I said no thanks. Strike 3. They also didn't set up the sofa bed for us. Even though we had asked at check in. Called front desk. No answer. Housekeeping, no answer. Back to front. Said they would bring stuff. They only brought bedsheets. Called later that night for a blanket. *headdesk* strike 3.5. Luau was okay. The fire was the highlight. Along with AYCD cocktails. Although 50% of the adults can't seem to hold their liquor. Loud, screaming and being obnoxious. Trying to cut in line and pretend they don't know where the end of the line is. Our waitress kept skipping our table as well. Every 4 times she would come around, 1 time she would follow up with the other half of the table. The only good food is the fried rice and teriyaki chicken. Pork was overly salted. Strike 4. Parking is shared with the Luau. So if you arrive back at the hotel after 4:30, expect to park in the overflow parking. Ridiculous. You also get golf cart riders (not employees) that block roads and get mad when you drive around them. They cursed at my husband even thought they were parking where if you turn a corner you'd hit them. Wrong area to go golfing! Strike 5. Towels. If you spend the day doing activities around the island and come to the pool in the evening, like after 5, the towel shack is closed. Always closed. The entire 3 days we were here. Pool is also extremely small for a resort. Expect to be swarmed with flies if you do go to the pool in the AM. Lights don't come on until after 6:30pm. Pool is usually dark at 6 pm. Strike 6. Breakfast buffet. First day, my husband and daughter waited over an hour to get in. The most basic continental foods. Not worth the wait. It was free for us since it came with the hotel package. Otherwise it's $35 pp. ridiculous. Second day we waited 45 mins - we came at 7:08 am. They open at 7. 1 host checking guests in and seating them. Strike 7. We voiced our complaints to the front. "I'm sorry." Was all they said and just took off the parking fees for us. No. We wanted the resort fees taken off as well. We didn't use your SPF/Lotion since the towel shack is always closed. We didn't go to your spa to use the $20 credit. Housekeeping never came so we didn't get the coffee refills. Cultural classes? Where? It was never done. Our vintage Hawaiian postcard had writing all over the back so that was never replaced. Our shower had sand in it so that was never washed inbetween stays. I recommend the refillable water station by the pool and not lobby. Nothing was mentioned about the shuttle to whalers village. Nothing about that was mentioned to us nor was it on the paper that was given to us during check in. I only know now as I'm typing this because I just looked it up on the website. Botanical tour of the resort? - nope. Again, never mentioned. Extremely disappointing with no remorse from Royal Lahaina.

Yelp
The hotel and staff are fantastic! It was a wonderful stay and we really enjoyed walking to the beach every day. We will definitely be coming back again! Waking up to this view every morning is worth every penny!

Yelp
My first room smelled like urine, the guy that helped me bring my bags up said "it does smell funky in here" we went downstairs to change rooms. Second room was better, however my front ocean view turned into partial view. Roaches on the hallway walls. Horrible customer service. So many hidden fees!! No complementary breakfast (40$ per person for the breakfast buffet). Also 40$ per night to park your car there! Oh yeah, another 40$ per night "resort fee" plus allll the hidden taxes. I will not be staying here again or recommending this place. Worse 3 night stay experience.
