Royal Palm Hotel

The Royal Palm Hotel is my go-to destination for a stay in Durban. Conveniently located within walking distance from malls and restaurants with the most excellent service and delicious breakfast. The staff are always so helpful and polite, our rooms are always spotless and so comfortable. We have stayed at the Royal Palm multiple times and will continue to do so. I would definitely recommend the Royal Palm if you are looking for accommodation in Durban/Umhlanga.

The Royal Palm Hotel offers good value for money and is well situated in the heart of Umhlanga, making it ideal for both business and leisure travel. The rooms are a good size, clean, and comfortable. While the carpets show signs of wear, they were clean and did not affect the overall comfort of the stay.||||The interior of the hotel is pleasant and well maintained. The exterior could benefit from some attention, but once inside, the experience is enjoyable. Overall, a comfortable and practical stay with good value for money.

My stay at Royal Palms had both highs and lows. The positives: a genuinely beautiful room with spectacular views over Umhlanga Ridge. The negative: a lost property situation that remains unresolved. I inadvertently left my phone behind. When I called, staff confirmed they had found it and that it would be held at reception. Over the following days, I made multiple attempts to have it couriered to me. Each time I called to arrange collection, I was assured it was waiting at the front desk. Each time the courier arrived, they were told no phone was available. The disconnect between what I was told and what actually happened is concerning. Whether this reflects poor internal communication or another issue, I cannot say. What I can say is that I never recovered my property despite the hotel's initial confirmation they had it. My advice: conduct a thorough check of your room before departure.

Stayed at the Royal Palm over New Years. Despite the busy nature of the period, the staff at the hotel went above and beyond to accommodate us and were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast and breakfast team (kitchen staff and waiting staff) are amazing. Our room was larger than expected, clean and very comfortable, overall great value for money. I write this review while sitting at Thyme restaurant located in the hotel enjoying a cup of coffee. Thank you Royal Palm for the lovely experience. Will be back.

Terrible room design. From the moment you arrive at the entrance to the hotel, non existing staff or help. Codone off area for arrivals but no one available to remove comes to accommodate check inn. Non functioning doors in the room . Furniture needs an upgrade. At best a 1 star establishment

I've stayed there about 4 times so far, last time in the apartment. Its beautiful and has old world charm with a modern touch. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast

We have the penthouse on the 6th floor. Room 621 a three bedroom apartment. It’s a bit dated but still absolutely stunning and comfortable. Large high ceiling living/dining room and large balcony with a table and 4 chairs but they need replacing as are falling apart. Kitchen has a fridge and a microwave. Given coffee and tea and a bit of full fat milk. They give you bottles of water but had to ask for more as we are 6. Upstairs is a very large mezzanine en-suite king size bedroom. Downstairs has one double en-suite bedroom and a bedroom with 2 single beds and separate bathroom. So ideal for the apartment for 4 adults and 2 children. Every room has air con and 2 air cons in the main living area. Lots of comfortable seating and large TV. Toiletries sufficient. Breakfast included downstairs in the Thyme restaurant. Buffet style, good selection. Egg station you can order your eggs. Coffee machine a choice of different coffees but not very hot. Fruits and fruit juice available. Pastries, bread, and full cooked breakfast like bacon, sausages ( pork or chicken or beef). Samosas too. Very nice staff and accommodating. Housekeeping also very friendly. Location brilliant. Opposite a huge shopping mall called west gate. Apparently this is the largest mall in this hemisphere! Lots of restaurants and bars. Although more choices of nicer restaurants and bars about 10 minutes away by car at another smaller mall called ocean mall. Only downside is that at night particularly at the weekends it can get very noisy

Personally my favorite place to stay in Umhlanga! I always look forward to staying here. The rooms are spacious and the serrvice is always great. Located just opposite Gateway mall, you dont even need a car
