The Royal Palm Hotel in Umhlanga Ridge offers a delightful stay with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The hotel staff are a standout, consistently friendly, helpful, and always greeting guests with a smile. Even after a long day, staff we encountered in the parking area were courteous and engaging, which truly enhanced our experience. The overall ambiance of the hotel is great, making it a pleasant place to stay. Unfortunately, our experience at the hotel’s restaurant, Thyme@Palm, was a significant letdown. My wife and I visited the restaurant one evening, hoping for a pleasant dining experience, but were met with poor service. The waitress completely ignored us upon arrival, walking past without any acknowledgment. A staff member, likely from the kitchen, was the only one to notice us and instructed us to sit anywhere. The waitress eventually brought one menu but had to go back for a second one. After handing us the menus, she walked away and stationed herself at the hostess stand, showing no interest in assisting us further. After browsing the menu for a few minutes, we looked up to place our order, only to find the waitress still standing at the hostess stand, not once glancing our way. The restaurant was nearly empty, with just one other patron, which made the lack of attention even more surprising. Feeling overlooked, we decided to leave and dine elsewhere. As we walked out, the waitress didn’t even look up from whatever was occupying her. It’s a shame that the exceptional service throughout the Royal Palm Hotel is overshadowed by the disappointing experience at Thyme@Palm. The restaurant has the potential to be a lively and inviting spot, but the staff’s lack of attentiveness needs urgent improvement. I hope the hotel management addresses this issue, as it detracts from an otherwise wonderful stay. I’d recommend the Royal Palm Hotel for its great accommodations and friendly staff but suggest exploring other dining options until the restaurant service is improved.
