Royal Palms Hotel, Hamilton, Bermuda - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? Maybe it’s the verdant gardens that surround the property or the old-school design of the main building, which was once a 19th-century manor house. The airy front porch with its wicker rocking chairs might be the reason. Or even the coral-colored paint job, which help the white shutters perk up ever so slightly. Whatever the reason, the vibe at Royal Palms Hotel, a small City of Hamilton hotel, is uniquely tropical and classically Bermudian—one without a significant price tag. Tell us a bit more about its history. Built in 1903, the Royal Palms was once a private home, and many of its original architectural and decorative features are still present today. In fact, walking through its lobby and public spaces is akin to wandering through your wealthy grandmother’s living room: Oriental rugs cover creaky wood-paneled floors, tufted sofas and chairs sit next to elegant Victorian-style furniture, and walls with crown molding feature gold-framed paintings of dreamy Bermuda landscapes. Tell us all about the accommodations. What can we expect from the rooms? Not surprisingly, the décor of the 32 rooms is right in line with the rest of this über-traditional hotel. You’ll find antique-style hardwood furniture, flowery drapes and bed skirts, and hearty sitting chairs. Most have kitchenettes with a microwave, refrigerator, toaster oven, and wet bar, and some have a shared patio or porch. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? There's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Any good dining options on the premises, or should we venture elsewhere? Ascot is the main fine dining restaurant, and although some locals swear by this place, you’ll get a far better meal if you simply take the five-minute walk into the City of Hamilton. The good news is you won’t have to go very far for your morning coffee since the hotel provides a complimentary continental breakfast of the usual suspects (yogurt, baked goods) in addition to free glasses of red and white wine with light bites during evening happy hour. And the service? This is a folksy kind of place run by locals who’ve been working here for years, so expect service with a smile from Bermudians who very much care about your stay. What type of travelers will you find here? Budget travelers looking to save a few bucks, business travelers who favor the central address, and older couples who enjoy the hotel’s laid-back simplicity. How does it fit into the surrounding neighborhood? Considering the Royal Palms is a five-minute walk to the City of Hamilton’s shops, restaurants, and attractions, you’ll have the best of Bermuda’s big-city life at your doorstep. Is there anything you'd change? The kidney-shaped pool is the size of a large hot tub—read: tiny—and you’re about 15 minutes from the closest beach. Anything else stand out about the hotel? You might be nowhere near the water, but the grounds here significantly make up for the lack of ocean view. In fact, the hotel’s well-manicured gardens are one of the loveliest places to take a quiet stroll—they’re overflowing with frangipani, oleander, and bougainvillea, plus fruit trees like avocado, banana, lime, guava, and loquat, all of which guests are encouraged to pick from. Bottom line: Why would you recommend this one, and who for? If an affordable, centrally located stay is what you crave, you can’t do much better than this old-school manor house in the City of Hamilton." - David LaHuta

We booked at the Royal Palms Hotel in Hamilton Bermuda because of the great reviews from travelers and we weren't wrong! First of all, the value for money is excellent compared to other more expensive hotels. Breakfast is included and even wine and cheese for happy hour and a free shuttle service to downtown Hamilton. The hotel is spotlessly clean, from the rooms to the common areas and the beautiful gardens. The hotel's new restaurant, Palomino, is a must-try! Breathtaking decor and incredible food at a decent price. The cherry on top is the staff! So friendly, welcoming and with great advice to help us plan our excursions, especially Prisina and Muriel who were absolute sweethearts. They definitely made a big difference in the quality of our stay. We can't wait to go back!

Wow, what a great hotel! We visited Bermuda for my wife's birthday, and the staff went overboard to help celebrate her special week. Everyone, from the front desk, housekeeping, bartenders and whole staff, bent over backwards to accommodate our every need. The location is great. They provided shuttle service anywhere in Hamilton, but we also enjoyed our walks from the hotel around Hamilton. We enjoyed meeting many of the other guests during the complimentary breakfast and happy hours. Highly recommend this jewel of a hotel, we will definitely be returning.

We stayed over my birthday weekend and were treated like royalty. All staff are warm, kind and so efficient. We felt truly valued and cared for, seen and heard. Our suite was spacious and comfortable, even the mattress and pillows! It felt more like staying in someone's mansion than in a hotel. Our best travel experience in 70 years.

The hotel is outstanding. The welcoming committee was beyond reproach. The room was impeccably clean. The grounds and the pool were exceptional. The welcoming bottle of wine for our 50th wedding anniversary was much appreciated. |The breakfast was adequate for our needs. |Unfortunately, the on site restaurant was under construction. They did offer a very limited dinner which we tried once. |The shuttle was extremely helpful and accommodating. Unfortunately, this service is not advertised. The website claims it’s available until 9:30AM. We discovered after two days it’s available upon request to and from Hamilton proper. |The only other disappointment was the unadvertised additional charge for daily room service. If we were made aware of this charge we would have just refreshed towels. |Other than that we would have rated this wonderful venue 5 stars.

From the warm welcome on reception from Teresa we knew this was going to be a lovely stay. The warmth and friendliness of the staff continued throughout our 6 night stay. Impecable gardens, clean amenities, room accessible and a free shuttle into the city of Hamilton.|The bar staff, Danny and Jerome quickly learnt our favourite tipple. The Palomino restaurant is a must, Catherine and Anil, provide excellent and attentive service.

My latestvisit to the Royal Palms was the best ever. 3 family members joined me for 6 amazing days. The staff created a sense of being welcomed and cared for from morning to night. Too many to mention by name but it s little wonder this is the perfect headquarters for experiencing the essence of Bermuda .thank you one and all!|Bob Brideson, hollywood, fl

We spent 10 wonderful days at the Royal Palms Hotel and would go back in an instant if we could. Everything was perfect: the grounds and rooms were beautiful and immaculately kept, every person on staff was superb, the continental breakfast and wine hour were really nicely done. Our room was spacious, well-appointed, and beautifully decorated. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk (along a sidewalk!) to every bus you need to get around the island and there are many great restaurants a short walk away. The food offerings at the restaurant were also excellent. It was really one of the most perfect places we've ever stayed.

Delightful hotel with warm friendly service, a short walk from the centre of Hamilton with easy access to the rest of the island by bus. Would recommend
