Golf Tourism Is on the Rise and These Are the Must-see Tournaments

"The Open Championship's scheduled links site located about 60 miles northwest of Belfast; its rural setting leads many visitors to stay in Belfast and rely on arranged transfers to reach the course." - Kelsey Ogletree Kelsey Ogletree Kelsey Ogletree is a Chicago-based writer and editor. As a first time attending the Open, it was an Amazing experience and to top it all the weather was fabulous. A few tips, be prepared for crowds, long walks to get to different services within the visitor area and queues for everything!!For example, at the merchandise shop, I queued for 1hour to get inside…then items had run out but I did manage to get an umbrella which I wanted ( as the smaller shops around the Venus/ course had run out… ) then another long queue at the check out!! All in all that took me 1.5hrs! There is no avoiding long waits to access all the stands to view the golf. The reserved seats were left empty. Lastly, on arrival at the entry gate.. we waited 1.5hrs to get in!!! Again I think the organisers need to improve this for future events. It’s not for the faint hearted and so planning how you spend your time and navigating around the course to watch the players is crucial… but remember to embrace every moment and enjoy the experience

Had a great time at The Open here. Impressive how they just lift and shift all the branding from one place to another so the look and feel is consistent. Everything fine except the Saturday night shuttle bus experience which was a disaster. We waited over an hour for a bus but there were literally thousands still queuing at that point (8pm).

A wonderful day out at the Open Championship. Such a beautiful course, would be amazing to play there one day!

The peak of sports in Ireland. A wet but great week at the Open at the best spectator course on their roster. A special course on the beautiful Causeway Coast.

Impeccable service, grounds and history. Must be one of the best golf clubs on earth. Far better than the pretentious Trump club at home. Authenticity! Amazingly run by Gary McNeil PGA.

Unbelievable course and experience. Hospitality tent was really poor (food and service) but nothing to do with the golf club! Highly Recommended

Yelp
I am assuming the other reviewers are a) not golfers b) not aware of the following: Royal Portrush constantly ranks in the top 25 golf courses in the world which is why they are undergoing major upgrades such as making two brand new holes ahead of the course being selected for the open championship in 2019. It's utter garbage to give this two 18 hole facility anything but top grades. Hard courses yes. Wind usually playing a factor yes. All services such as range and short game area etc etc. best of the best

Yelp
We booked 6 caddies for our group of 8 weeks in advance and confirmed a few days before.. When we got there for our game they only had 4. The 2 caddies in our group were called at the last minute - they only lived a few minutes walk away. The caddies in our group carried 2 bags each - the caddie I had drove a buggie as one of the guys in our group had a bad hip. The Club charges 40 pounds per bag for a senior caddie. Most courses charge a lower rate per bag when one caddie carries two bags. The caddie I had was lazy - he mostly sat in the cart and only provided advice on the tee box and greens. A total waste of 40 pounds. The second caddie provided poor putting advice. This club should not charge the same price per bag when a caddie carries 2 bags. This may help with their caddie shortage - as right now it is a no brained to take a single caddie. The quality of caddies in our experience was poor and it totally ruined a golf game at a beautiful course we had high hopes for. I complained to the pro shop and spoke to a member in the clubhouse about the caddie issue - I left my name and email address but have had no response. Maybe if they get a few more complaints they will fix their caddie issue.
