The Grand Theatre of Rabat stands as a prominent architectural marvel and a modern cultural icon, not just for Morocco but for the entire African continent and the Arab world. Here's an overview: Location and Design The Grand Theatre of Rabat is strategically situated on the banks of the Bou Regreg River, offering stunning views of historical landmarks like the Hassan Tower and the Kasbah of the Udayas. This colossal structure was designed by the renowned Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, famous for her innovative architectural style and distinctive curvilinear forms. Construction began in 2010 and was initially expected to be completed within 56 months; however, circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in its grand opening. Significance and Specifications The Grand Theatre of Rabat is considered the largest theatre in Africa and the Arab world in terms of area, sprawling over a total of 47,000 square meters. This includes 27,000 square meters for the facilities themselves and an additional 20,000 square meters for green spaces. This project aims to enhance Rabat's cultural radiance and position it on the global map of cultural capitals. It's a key part of Rabat's integrated urban development program for 2014-2018, "Rabat, City of Lights, Cultural Capital of Morocco." The theatre features a main auditorium with a capacity of approximately 2,000 seats, along with an outdoor amphitheater that can accommodate up to 7,000 people, dedicated to hosting major festivals and events. The performance halls are equipped with state-of-the-art audio and visual technologies, meeting international standards of the world's best theatres, with meticulous attention to sound quality and sightlines. The theatre also includes rehearsal spaces, an additional hall for over 500 spectators, and leisure facilities like cafes and restaurants. Cultural Role The Grand Theatre is expected to play a vital role in the Moroccan cultural and artistic scene by hosting national and international theatrical, musical, and artistic performances. It represents a significant addition to Morocco's cultural infrastructure, aiming to provide a suitable environment for theatrical work and enhance the cultural sector's contribution to socio-economic development. Overall, the Grand Theatre of Rabat is a unique architectural and cultural achievement, reflecting Morocco's aspirations for development and excellence in the arts and culture.

Designed by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the Grand Theatre of Rabat is a modern marvel completed in 2021. Its futuristic design, with sweeping curves and fluid lines, reflects Morocco’s push toward cultural innovation. While visitors can only admire it from afar due to security restrictions, its architectural boldness is undeniable. Set along the banks of the Bou Regreg River, it’s a symbol of Rabat’s contemporary artistic aspirations.

I arrived there by taxi and the guardians didn’t let me get off of the car !!!!! Apparently you can’t even walk around it… but there are no signs of that anywhere ! Just absurd. Great art handled buy incompetent people. Very sad.

It is called Theatre, but it was never opened! And it will be never opened in the future! It is only one building with name Grand Theatre, but they were never people inside! The whole area is under security guarding and they never allow people to go closer to this building! This "Grand Theatre" is no Theatre. They do not allow to go inside to people only for security guards. That is all :-D
