This museum is absolutely breathtaking and leaves an unforgettable impression—it is, without a doubt, the largest and most comprehensive dinosaur museum I have ever had the privilege to visit. The collection is simply extraordinary, featuring an impressive array of dinosaur fossils, including many original specimens that are perfectly preserved. Walking among these massive displays, I couldn’t help but marvel at the raw beauty, detail, and scale of these ancient creatures. The museum truly showcases the awe-inspiring craftsmanship of nature, reminding us of its infinite creativity and power. Each exhibit feels like a portal into a different era, telling the incredible story of life millions of years ago. For anyone fascinated by dinosaurs or the natural world, this place is a treasure trove of discoveries that leaves you humbled by the wonders of Earth's history. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone seeking to be inspired and amazed.

Google
Absolutely amazing experience! The Royal Tyrrell Museum is a must-visit for anyone fascinated by history and dinosaurs. The exhibits are incredibly detailed, with some of the best-preserved dinosaur fossils in the world. The interactive displays and learning opportunities make it enjoyable for all ages. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the surrounding Badlands scenery is breathtaking. I highly recommend this museum - it's an unforgettable journey into prehistoric times!

Google
It was such a wonderful visit to see this historical place, where you will learn how they find these dinosaur fossils, how they preserve them, and what the process is. Even if you are not into Dinosaurs, I think this place is still worth visiting. The ticket price is not too bad. There are clean restrooms, storage for your winter coats, and a decent cafeteria. The place is kid-friendly, but if you want to read thoroughly, I think you want to come alone.

This museum was the highlight of our trip to Drumheller. "Big R" from the Tourist Info Center gave us good advice when she said we needed 3 hours. The museum is very well curated with well written and easy to read information posted by each display. There was a lot to see and read. A wealth of information about our planet, how it was formed, and then evolved over billions of years. The sculptures and skeletons were impressive, especially knowing that they are the actual size of these dinosaurs based on their fossilized bones. We also enjoyed going through the sections that were based on the different epoch and the five main extinction events. There was information about the discovery of various fossils and full skeletons. There is a large window looking into the museum's work area. There is also an atrium full of different plants, big and small. We ended up spending 3.5 hours in the museum and did skip over some reading. We stopped for a quick bite to eat at the cafeteria. This was an excellent and informative visit. Certainly good for those who have the time to read all the information. I can see where it is interesting for smaller children. However, I could see where it was challenging to keep the young ones interested for longer periods of time. I recommend coming here in the morning and spending 3 to 4 hours, minimum if you want to get the most out of your visit.

A must-visit for dinosaur lovers! The Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta has an amazing collection of fossils and interactive exhibits. A fun, educational experience for all ages—truly a prehistoric adventure!

Google
It was surprisingly empty of visitors when we visited on Saturday afternoon. I truly enjoyed being able to walk through and enjoy the exhibits without feeling like I was in other people's way. It was my 3rd visit since May and I'm still enjoying the experience.

Google
Have not been since I was a child, unfortunately I do not remember much. I would assume it has greatly improved, and expanded in the last 20 years. Loved taking my family here. Lots of dinosaurs, and exhibits to see. Going from every period from the start through evolution, to the end. I enjoyed the interactive activities. It was clean, very informative. A nice gift shop with fair pricing for souvenirs, and gifts. Definitely an enjoyable place to be. Great experience for autistic children. I would recommend bringing your family here, it’s something that will impact them for the rest of their lives, as well as in hopes to bring their families here. My only complaint would be the $50 entry fee for two adults and a child. I understand inflation, it’s a huge facility to keep open. But, I believe it would bring more visitors, and attention at the $30 price point.

Yelp
A must go place for anyone that's a fan of dinosaurs. Countless impressive fossils with informative blurbs about them. The air conditioning also makes this a perfect place for families to hangout on a hot day!

Yelp
Wow, what a great museum. Many real and also a couple of replica fossils! Signs denote which are real. The space is perfectly curated and had many great explanations. If you have an extra day in Calgary, it's definitely worth the drive out!
google avatar

Yelp
During the said visit, my group didn't know that it is closed on Mondays. Instead of feeling disappointed, we walked at the view points and enjoyed the views. We got educated too. There are like 4 or 5 stands with pictures and information written on it. Ample parking. Restrooms are outside. I will be back for sure when I visit Edmonton next time.

Yelp
We decided to make a trip out to Drumheller during our visit to Calgary, specifically to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum. I didn't know anything about Drumheller or the museum, so I literally had no expectations. I thought it was a dud while going through the first part of the museum, because the exhibits were small and uninteresting. But then things slowly got bigger, better, and more interesting. We were blown away when we got to the end with all of the huge and full skeletons. If you're visiting Alberta for a week or if you're really into museums and dinosaurs, then this a definitely must-visit!

Yelp
This is one of the finest museums in the world! We love natural history museums and have been to them throughout the US, so there was no way we would miss a chance to come here while on a conference trip to Edmonton (about 3 hr drive) The Royal Tyrrell houses some of the most amazing dinosaur bones we've ever seen and it's amazing to see so many of them in situ. The collections are quite impressive and it's been so much fun to see some of the specimens from the museum on different educational programs (they're quite famous!). There's also a nice hiking trail through the badlands area outside that is less than a mile and showcases the beautiful landscapes surrounding the museum. It's just an amazing place overall and one we would visit again in a heartbeat the next time we're in Alberta!

Yelp
I would have this is the best dinosaur museum I've ever been to the amount of things they have on display is amazing so many of them being original not cast lost of info it took me 2hrs to go threw it and I was kinda fast I just wish they had a theater to watch videos to give more info it's a different place to vist

Yelp
I am no dinosaur nerd by any means but this museum is awesome. It goes in depth about the earth's creation and the role of dinosaurs and the various eras through the K-Pg mass extinction. Many of the exhibits/displays are the original fossils and not casts. However, if it is a cast it will specify. An entire Gorgosaurus skeleton is located in this museum. You will see all various kinds of Dino fossils including aquatic ones while learning about the many industrial businesses that unearthed these fossils and how Canada made it a law to report such findings. Drumheller is the dinosaur capital of the world with fossils being found each day. The museum is well done and is a wealth of information. It took me 3 hours to go through the entire museum and that's not including reading everything either. I highly recommend this museum. If it's in September and during the week you don't really need to book ahead online. However, if it's during the summer months you're best booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Yelp
What can be said that hasn't been about Royal Tyrell!? World class facilities with world class displays and well thought out layout. This museum worth the trip no matter where your from even in Alberta. Hammond and Wu would be amazed at how this place is and one of must see attractions in Alberta!!!

J S.

Yelp
Customer service was weird. At the gift store and cafeteria. If you're going to have your coworkers gossip about other people loudly, maybe have them not work the checkout? Just a thought.

Yelp
If you like dinosaurs this is a great stop. Even for the rest of us it's pretty cool. The dinosaur business really revived this city after the coal mine shut in. Everything is Dino out here

Yelp
if uou like Dinosaurs this is the place to be many varieties of exhibits to see that make it interesting for visitors of all ages!

Yelp
We were in Calgary and it was part of our itinerary to visit this museum. It was worth the drive out to Drumheller. The museum had a fantastic collection of dinosaur artifacts, and lots of interesting facts if you have time to read at all the snippets of information. I suggest planning 2-3 hours to enjoy the displays.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
What a find. I wish we had more time to spend to explore the viewpoints and trails outside. The museum itself is so well laid out and fun! Not your typical dry fact overload. Lots of informational signs though. The displays are amazing. The timelines are not boring and well presented.

Yelp
This is a World class dinosaur fossil museum, plan on a couple of hours to explore. They have free wifi, and you can rent strollers and even wheelchairs for a nominal fee if needed. Plenty of interactive and educational exhibits and even a peek into their lab. I took a relative to a Eat North Culinary Event here tonight and the great food and friendly staff that worked the fun event space didn't disappoint. Less than 90 minutes drive from Calgary and open 'til 7pm! The location itself is a geological wonderland.

Yelp
Kids had an AMAZING time at this museum. Must see if you are in the area (guessing if you are in Drumheller this is what you are there for). Tons of exhibits to look at and there is a part that you can actually see the people working on new fossils.
google avatar

Yelp
This should be on everyone's bucket list when visiting Alberta. The museum is enormous, all the exhibits have wide accessible walkways, there are multiple restrooms and multiple water fountains throughout, the cafeteria even has a free charging station where you can lock your personal devices in a mini-locker while it is charging. There's a 4km hiking trail around the museum too.
google avatar

Katrina W.

Yelp
Wonderful experience for the whole family. The exhibits are really neat. The whole museum is stroller accessible. We came at a busy time and the temperature was a bit warm in the museum.

Yelp
This place is a national treasure! We are very lucky to have it here in Alberta. I can't imagine all the time, effort and knowledge it took to put these awesome displays together. I find it so fascinating to contemplate what it would have been like when the dinosaurs were around. This place definitely inspires imagination and reflection about the prehistoric past. Everything is well organized and shown in a variety of fun and interesting ways. The biggest display is a gigantic T-Rex. In contrast to this, there are some minuscule fossils to explore under microscopes. They also have some weird and wonderful live animals (in tanks) who are distant relatives to the prehistoric animals. There so much to see and learn here! I find that the museum isn't overwhelmingly big. Sometimes when I walk into a museum I get overwhelmed with how much ground I need to cover. I also feel bad about some of the displays I might miss and not be able to experience. In this museum I don't really get that feeling. I find that the museum is very manageable. You can go through the museum within a couple of hours and feel like you had a good visit. It really all depends on how much time you spend taking in each display. I've enjoyed coming here every since I was a young kid. The older I get, the more I appreciate just how precious this museum is. It's a world class facility that future generations and people from around the world can come here to enjoy.

Yelp
This place is great for kids young of heart and actually young. Pam's review is spot on and I have to say my Danish cousin's were not the only ones beyond impressed. This place changed the view of the youngest about museums (apparently in his mind, museums are for school trips and not holidays). However, when a place can change a mind of a 11 year old boy not even a quarter of the way through, you know you've hit the jackpot! Personally I loved the museum stop and was beyond grateful there was an elevator option. Parking was easy to find on a Wednesday afternoon and if you're driving in multiple vehicles, there's a play park that also has picnic benches in the shade for you to wait at. There's also a really convenient lookout spot outside the front doors of the museum but be prepared for a huge climb up the steps for that reward (I opted to be the camera person at the bottom). Most importantly take time for the very cool dinosaur bones that are fantastically displayed. Being able to walk through the eras made my inner science girl day complete! The only things that I can think to mention that made this a 4 star instead of 5, is that you need to be very specific that you're only there for the day. Otherwise they'll automatically try and sell you a two day pass without asking. I luckily caught on before things were paid, as he did say the total. Also there is a distinct lack of staff of the floor. So if you have questions, save them for the guys and gals back at the front tills (not even the gift shop people can answer things about the museum).

Yelp
WOW this place is totally amazing. I didn't expect that much to see. I mean I know its the World's Largest Dinosaur Museum. I do expect to be big. Outside doesn't seems giant but inside has so much to see. So when you walk in there are the dinosaur giant figures for you to see but once you go past that you start seeing fossil. Well little one first. Its only when you get close to the end that is where they kept all the good exhibit - the giant albertasaur and the T-Rex fossil. WOW they were huge. Another interesting part to see is where the worker work in the lab trying to slowly clean out the fossil bones. It must be a tiring job to hold a pen and slowly grind away the dirt around the fossil bones. This place is also very reasonable in terms of admission. For $18, you get to see so much. Also its all real stuff. There are a few section that allow you to touch the fossil. Very interesting. Also when you exit the museum, there is also the hoodoos for you to see. The mountains are interesting. If you like, you can do a short hike. Yes we went and did that. Only thing was that it was so hot, I think we were cooking. Great for selfie.

Yelp
My family and I loved this museum! We learned so much and were amazed by all the fossils, information, and set up of this place. No wonder they called this place "Abundant Alberta" for all the abundance of fossils found in the Alberta badlands. This place is literally located in the middle of nowhere but as soon you enter this little town you are greeted by all things dinosaurs! From the lamp posts, to the "Welcome to Drumheller sign," the World's Largest dinosaur, and dinosaurs sporadically placed throughout the town. My sister, husband, and little family friend (6 year old boy) love dinosaurs. This place was a must see during our trip to Alberta, Canada. We spent a couple hours walking around the museum, reading the displays, and taking photos. We also purchased some souvenirs from the gift shop. For those hungry, a cafeteria is also located at the Museum. There is a little trail up a hill for a nice lookout point and a 30-min trail through the "Alberta badlands." **Free WiFi and friendly customer service If this is your first time going to Alberta and you love dinosaurs, I'd definitely recommend this place! It is about a 1.5 hour drive from Calgary.

Yelp
So 5 stars if you're a kid. Or if you are a parent of "a well-mannered and loves dinosaurs" kid. And you arrive before 11am. Reason why? It's ridiculously crowded otherwise. The museum staff do a great job keeping the place as orderly as possible, but there will be people everywhere. Pro-tip: for the line to get in, you can buy your ticket on your phone, then walk in to the membership counter to pick it up and enter. Saves you 15-45min; same price (at time of writing). Overall, the quality of the museum is really high - there's amazing skeletons and exhibits of discovered (and continued-to-be discovered) fossils. My favorite exhibit is the story of a guy who visited the museum, learned about the fossils, then at his work, recognized a fossil during a dig and that turned out to be one of the best-preserved discoveries of a ... giant-turtle-thing-...osaurus (haha oops :D). Super cool story! Other than the crowds, I would have liked a little bit more things to see (maybe 20% more), but I guess that would be a little picky. Still overall worth the visit if you're into dinosaurs; just try to get there early :)

Yelp
I've been to this museum countless times but today's visit was just really awful. My friends and I stopped in the city on our way back to Calgary to get ice cream and I was hoping to get a souvenir from the gift shop. I knew exactly what I wanted and was willing to do whatever it takes to work with the staff to make it work. I asked the guy at the front about my request and he thought it was fairly reasonable, just needed to ask his manager. But once his manager came out, he said "oh we're over capacity. You need to buy a ticket anyways" to which I replied "why would I buy a ticket if the only thing I'm hoping for is a mug from the gift shop?" Then he went on about how the gift shop has a line and told me to come back in several hours and I'm like "you want me to wait in town for 4 hours just for the chance to get a mug? Are you serious? Is there even any chance I would be able to IF I did that?" To which he replied "no guarantee". I'm a reasonable person and I get when there's no way something CAN be done and when a person is just simply too stubborn to be bothered to even consider a solution. He was just giving me one bs excuse after another. Really not impressed with this guy. Couldn't be bothered to make a reasonable exception in a very unique scenario. I even offered to give him cash so an employee can get the mug and he can keep his previous capacity. Was gonna plan a trip to the museum with my family but yeah, with staff as rude and unhelpful as this I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

Yelp
100% the best museum I've ever been to. This place is dinosaur overload but in the best way possible. Set in the badlands you feel like you've fallen into The Land Before Time and that's before you pay the entrance fee. Dinosaur models everywhere and little hints at the exhibits inside. The cost isn't crazy and they have family deal tickets so they do make it affordable. The first exhibit had dino models, skeletons and a breakdown of the time periods which my husband loved. He got really involved in the hands on exhibits because he is a geologist so he was able to test his university degree right there haha... I just thought it was cool. Gotta stop by the giant T-rex for a selfie then read the sign that says it was only a baby t-rex, and stand in sheer astonishment at how enormous these things were! The Velociraptor fossil in the death pose was quite amazing too, as it's complete. They do such a fantastic job at restoration... and then you get to the lab where you see it all happen. You can actually look through the glass wall into the lab to watch the Paleontologists at work. Below each work station they have information on where the excavation was, and what fossil they found. It's the most fascinating part for me because it make it seem real and like I could actually do this. And I could! They have groups that go out into the badlands and go on a dig with the Paleontologists. It's super cool and nerdy, and I wanna do it next time I visit Drumheller. But the museum has sooo much more to see! They take you through the time periods, like you are going through the time tunnel in Dinosaur Train (anyone else go kids who make them watch that show?). Each time period is well laid out and easy to follow, even for a non-scientist like me. Some sections are based on aquatic life and the botanicals, even the bugs!! But then you get to the best part, the giant T-rex you've been waiting on. They have a second story so you can get a pic from above too, then go to the ground floor and walk around looking up a lot. The gift shop at the end has all the kids losing their shit (including mine) over all the dinosaur toys, which to be honest I could do without but the t-shirts were awesome. So many punny dino shirts, I was loving it. I no doubt will go back but this time for one of the digs! Best museum ever.
google avatar

Danny R.

Yelp
This has been my favorite museum ever since I was little. The displays cover everything from the Cambrian explosion to cavemen and every thing in between! However, if you can, go while school is in session or you'll be overrun with bus loads of students. Also: in the gift shop there was a mug with a tyrannosaurus on it that said "Tea - Rex". How perfect is that?

Kate D.

Yelp
Pre book time slots and pre purchase tickets online before you go... 80%of people are wearing masks. Can be difficult to social distance in some spots. Staff should be cleaning the high touch exhibits glass etc as they go instead of walking around, doing nothing. Because it's hard to tell kids to not touch the glass and etc. So if the staff actually went from open to close every 1-2hr intervals starting one end to the other and as they finish then they can go back and do again just to ensure peoples safety. Great place to visit, definitely a must when in drumheller. 40 mins to get to the museum from grove campground on bike. Easy ride on south side of N.dinosaur trail then when you cross the highway, it moves to difficult. 3 huge hills up and down. But a great ride.
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
Like most government of Alberta sites, this one is a great visit. From the parking , location, museum, to restrooms, everything is well thought out and well done. There are many exhibits of fossils, educational materials relating to them and activities for the kids to do. I'd recommend letting your kids grow up to around 7 or 8 to really enjoy all the information but kids 5 and under are free so it's not a big deal. This should be on your "must visit" list for sometime in your life as it's amazing and you are right in the middle of dinosaurs country.
google avatar

Sharon D.

Yelp
A treasure! A great day trip any time of year. Be sure to register for any of the programs- we've done fossil casting, the dig experience, and self guided hikes. All are top notch. The museum is spectacular, and you will never be able to see it all. The kids' playground is a must if visiting with children up to 12 years. An easy drive from Calgary, the landscape is out of this world. Be sure to buy tickets online before you go, and skip the line up.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Had no idea what to expect as we drive to the middle of nowhere but we would definitely make the trip again! The museum was about $19 per adult and well worth it as you go through all the eras from the life of the dinosaurs to now with an incredible amount of original bones and casts. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
This is located an hour and half from Calgary and we stopped here on our way to Calgary from Edmonton. It's a wonderful museum. I've been to a lot of museums and seen dinosaur bones before like at La Brea Tar Pits in LA or at museums in Wash. DC. This is a unique museum dedicated to the dinosaur bone findings in this part of Canada. There's a lot of information to read and fossils to see. It was so crowded when we went. There's a nice cramped gift shop. My nephews got a bunch of stuff like rocks and stuffed animal dinosaurs. Dinosaur history is fascinating...this museum made me think that dinosaurs are just giant reptiles or lizards. Check out my pics.
google avatar

Leanne K.

Yelp
This is a world class museum and though we had already visited it twice, our kids insisted on including it as part of our summer road trip. Since we had already gone on the field dig on a previous visit, this time around we came later in the evening and just toured the museum. My sons enjoyed the prehistoric ocean exhibit and the T-Rex gallery. My daughters loved the aquarium containing the soft shelled turtle, and the interactive area. As we were leaving the museum, they pulled us towards the dinosaur themed playground where you will find a conveniently located picnic area if that interests you. Tips: 1) If you're a member of AAA, do remember to ask for your discount. We forgot! 2) If it is your first visit here be sure to arrive before noon. There are opportunities for programs and events which are not offered in the evening. 3) It might be wise to get the audio guide of the museum to keep you on track ($4.00). My kids were so excited to get going that we did not notice this option until the end of our visit.

Yelp
Well. What a waste of time and money. Went and checked the Website before booking camping and dinner reservations. Arrived Friday June 26th to hear that the museum was reservation only. We drove 4hrs for this ?? Won't be returning. Re checked website and in small print there was mention. Perhaps bold letters before hundreds are spent for the trip. Just like wallyworld. Lol.

Yelp
Of all the places to see in Drumheller the Royal Tyrrell Museum is a must see. This place is a monumentally fun learning experience for people of all ages. Walking through the place is yes like a taking a trip through time. My favourite parts was the magnified sea microbes and then the room with the larger historical sea monsters. These two rooms are darkened and are complete with sound effects so you feel completely emerged into the environment. Make sure you don't miss the terrarium located by the bathrooms mid way through the museum. It's a tropical paradise where you can spot modern day reptiles. The Tyrrell museum has tons of hands on learning experiences for kids to get to into. And if you go early enough you don't have to wait in any lines. The museum offers several specialized programs for all ages. These programs range in times and prices but all are affordable. A lot of them off up the opportunity to see what it's like to be a palaeontologist. honestly though unless your kids are dinosaur crazy the museum has enough to offer to keep everyone busy for a few hours. Also at the end there is a great playground where you can stop and have lunch before moving on to your next destination.

Yelp
Awesome experience! Great mix of activities both indoor and outdoor with lots of really cool fossils to enjoy. The interactive videos, games and daily activities are also a great must-do addition to this sweet adventure - just be sure to check online or come in early to participate! There is a little confection shop, as well as a gift shop for those gift inclined as well. Great way to spend the day!

Yelp
Best dinosaur museum in the world! Our family had the BEST time at Drumheller! This is truly a lifetime memory for the entire family. Our kids loved it but I think my wife and I may have even had a better time. Something for everyone. The dinosaur displays are simply incredible. I've never seem anything like this. The sheer size and scope of the display was unbelievable. Just when you think you've seen it all, you turn the corner and there's ten more! They have 3 full-size T-Rex on display! Awesome! The underwater display took my breath away. Definitely not going swimming for a while! Cleverly set up as a walk through the different ages, this museum does a good job of tying things together. Educational and fun! I would tell you to plan an entire day around this as they have lots of interactive shows, movies and live dig walks. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Badlaaaaaaaands! Drumheller is really cool, which is why my family insisted on taking me to check out the former stomping grounds of dinosaurs. Yeah, you read that right. DINO. SAURS. Raawwwwrrrr! The museum is a great way to start off your time before going out to walk on the trail through the Canadian Badlands. There are a crapload of dinosaur fossils (complete and partial) and even for a non-paleontology junkie like myself, this is so freakin' cool. I spent about 70% looking at the exhibits and 30% reading, but in the time I spent perusing written information, I learned quite a bit of natural history. While this is a great place for people of all ages just looking to expand knowledge and get exposure to bones that pretty much shut down any theories about Earth only being thousands or maybe tens of thousands of years old, it is really eye-opening and downright awesome for kids. The Royal Tyrrell Museum is a wonderful destination for a multi-age group or a family with children. I even got sucked into buying a few things from the gift shop.

Yelp
I was blown away by this place. I can seriously spend hours and hours in there if given the chance. But we had our kids with us so couldn't stay as long and read all the materials that my husband and I would have loved to read. My 10 yrs old was fascinated but the 7 not so much. He likes to look at the displays and onto the next immediately. So I suggest anyone who is really into museums not bring really young kids, if you want to fully enjoy and appreciate this place. Of course now I feel guilty saying that. Lol

Yelp
Dino-Mite! Our family loves to stop at the Tyrell Museum every time we pass through Drumheller! No matter how many times you stop in, there is always something new to see and something new to learn. Paleontology is so fascinating and it's super cool that you can see the magic in action as you check out the interior displays. Stop at the viewing window and watch history unearthed, walk amongst the skeletons of these giant legends, and browse the extensive gift shop for something dino-mite to take home! There is a great walking area outside the museum where you can climb up to a prime viewing area for a better look at the museum and surrounding areas. If you build up an appetite with all that walking be sure to stop in at the cafeteria located inside the museum for a tasty meal! If you have food allergies, speak to the staff as they are able to accommodate you. Huge shout out to George behind the grill who cooked my husband two celiac safe meals to enjoy over our two-day visit. He gave us exceptional service and went above and beyond for our families enjoyment. Thanks George! :) If you are planning a trip to Drumheller check out the museum's website for classes or camps that may be available during your stay!

Yelp
History and bones - a fun, and most-informative visit. We (two seniors and daughter) went to Drumheller and the Tyrrell Museum from Calgary one morning. It was my first look at each, but a highly-anticipated and emotional re-visit for my lady, who was born and lived in Drumheller through her childhood years, some many years ago. With her daughter, and grand-daughter with us, it was a very special day!! The Museum provided a fun and very informative historical and fossil account of the "period of the dinosaurs". The displays were impressive indeed -- with whole, and partial skeletons of so many different species, and information provided with each to help with names, and species-specific information on the habitats, diets, and the like, of their times. Some of the displays can be 'touched', a feature that "children" (of all ages!!) can particularly enjoy. Much to see and experience!! We certainly did not read the information at every display, but did so at a good many. I liked how everything was laid out - it was there for you to explore as much as you wished, you could easily bypass displays if you wished, and then return later if desired. We found we did this quite often throughout our tour, and never felt we were getting in the way of others, or them getting in our way. A few hours very well-spent!!

Yelp
We're always looking for interesting family places to visit in our own backyard in Alberta and this is a perfect place to take the kiddies where the adults will get a lot out of it too. This museum and surrounding area is the perfect place to go. Everyone will leave this place learning something new and the surrounding area has lots of other attractions to visit, so making this into a fun family weekend is easy to accomplish. The displays are interactive and engaging for both young and old. But be warned! even though this museum is a fair drive from the hub of Calgary, it is extremely busy on weekends! This was my first visit to the museum and my husband's second. In fact, when he was a kid, he had found a tooth on a walk around the grounds. After inquiring, they tracked the record and told him he had found a tooth of a rare species of alligator. That was nearly 25 years later!! There is a reason this museum was given a Royal designation. It is an exemplary museum.

Yelp
What an awesome place! Brought 3 kids here for the day and they had a BLAST! There's information areas that have activities to get the little ones even more involved and so many awesome fossils, skeletons and live creatures! The prices are fairly cheap and there's all kinds of different deals you can get! Lots of fun!

Yelp
I am beyond thankful that the Royal Tyrrell Museum is a part of my home and heritage. I've been to this museum at several points throughout my life. This time, I went on a Wednesday in the late afternoon. There was still some traffic within the confines of the massive, 3 hour spectacle, but nowhere near enough to make me feel crowded. The sheer amount of content the museum boasts is incredible. There are so many displays put together with expert precision. As the years pass, the displays grow. The most notable attraction is the new nodosaur - a new species of nodosaur that was found at Suncor - complete with armour and guts intact. It's so pristine that they cannot call it a fossil. It's more of a mummy! Admittedly, I shed a few (or many) tears at various points in the museum this time. The way the museum shows how humans are just a tiny blip on the radar is very impactful and awe-inspiring. My boyfriend and I shared a tearful (on my end) embrace alone in the precambrian era (STUNNING display) and it was a very special moment. I'm still at a loss for words regarding this place. It is truly an experience to awaken you and rock you (heh) to your core. Again, I am so thankful for the Royal Tyrrell Museum.

Yelp
Definitely the best museum that I have been to for dinosaurs. The museum is really well laid out and takes you through the different times in history

Yelp
The museum is not nearby the other major attractions in the province, so some trip planning will be necessary to get here. And it is worth it. Driving through the badlands is interesting in it's own right. You'll see 11 well prepared exhibits of the dinosaurs. There is also a gift shop. I have never heard a negative word about the museum. See my photos.

Yelp
Who reads a review for a Museum? A museums for dinosaurs none the less? 1) if you havent been, then go 2) Its not like anyone can say things like "oh my the customer service was terrible and the replicas of dinosaur skeletons barely moved, and the children where loud and everywhere" Its fun, its educational, if you expect ANYTHING else other than dinosaurs and kids everywhere then sorry to say you are afflicted with the dumb All that said, just go if you havent been, its pretty neat

Yelp
We have visited this museum with our son a few times and he visits at least once a year via summer camp. This is absolutely worth a stop on your road trip through Drumheller! The displays are fun and interactive and you can also wander around outside or take a dig class. We took a workshop where the kids learned to discover more on their own through putting puzzle parts together, finding clues and answers in the museum to solve a puzzle etc. The staff are very friendly and we had a super time as a family! The target age group would be kids 6-14 but anyone can enjoy the displays. We spent approx 3-4 hours here and did not rush through. There is a gift shop for souvenirs and educational toys and materials. Have fun!!!

Yelp
I was a little disappointed in the museum. You wait in line to get in, you pay a decent amount, and I expected more. I thought there would be more interactive features added by now. The areas are set up decently and have all the information that is pertinent to everything. You get to touch and feel some fossils and you learn a lot while you are going through, if you take the time to stop and read everything. It was very busy in the museum on the Sunday that we went which made it hard to read everything and not be really crowded. I am not sure if they have the option to get a recording of the info, but it wasn't offered to us when we went through. I would like to maybe go again during a time that it's not so busy so we could take our time and read all the information that is posted.

Yelp
'Eh. Something to do in the area. Walking trail was ok ( as a way to get those steps in, read a lil info boards, get off the beaten trail to look around, and let your imagination go ). Exhibits in the museum were ok. Somethings could have been improved on. Maybe more like 2 1/2*

Yelp
Right here in Alberta, we have, without question, many of the the most unique attractions in the world. The Royal Tyrrell Museum definately qualifies as one of them. It is no surprise, that Queen Elizabeth II gave the museum the Royal designation during a visit in 1990, which in essence added "Royal" on the beginning of the Tyrrell Museum's name. What I found the most fascinating about many of the exhibits, was learning about "where" the bones were extracted from. It wasn't uncommon to see places such as Drumheller, Cowley, Red Deer, Buffalo Jump Provincial Park, as well as sites in northern Alberta, Montana and Utah. When you look at these enormous dinasaur skulls, it is hard to believe that these animals roamed in many of the places where I have been for work or pleasure. The other tidbit that I found fun while exploring the museum, was that some of the exhibits actually tell the story of how it was discovered! I enjoyed reading a short excerpt of how one big Tyrannosaurus Rex was discovered right here in Alberta by a young boy who was fishing. He told his teacher the next day at school, and the teacher filed a report with the Government of Alberta and now, this impressive display is avaiable for all to enjoy. I try to make it to the Tyrrell Museum once or twice a year. Even though the exhibits do not change much over time, I always discover something new. If you are in the Drumheller area, definately stop in. We are extremely lucky to have this exhibit right here in Alberta, and it is a worthwhile attraction to support. You won't be disappointed.
