I visit the Dominican Republic at least once a year, and it’s my favorite country—it’s where my family is from. I’ve stayed at many resorts over the years, often paying less and receiving far better service. Unfortunately, my experience at Royalton Bavaro was by far the most disappointing and upsetting I’ve ever had.
From the moment we arrived, the service was unacceptable. On our first night, the bellman ignored us completely, choosing instead to drive a young woman in a bikini on the golf cart while I stood with my two children, my mother, and a stroller wagon. Tired, hot, and hungry, we had to find our room and carry our own luggage.
The room itself was unsanitary. I found roaches on and inside the dresser, including one crawling on my son’s clothes. At one point, the shower stopped draining, leaving me to wash myself with a water bottle over the toilet until maintenance finally came. Housekeeping was inconsistent—though I tipped generously, tissues and toilet paper were not replaced, and towels were left short for our family of four.
Dining was equally frustrating. At the buffet, we constantly had to ask for utensils, water, and drinks. Staff often brought the wrong items, and overall service felt careless and inattentive.
To be fair, there were a few bright spots. Daniel (at the lobby and oceanside buffets), Rafael (at the Italian restaurant), and Cristofer (at the hibachi) were kind, attentive, and professional. The entertainment was fun, the beach was beautiful, and I enjoyed the food and coffee. But these positives were overshadowed by the consistently poor service and negative attitudes from many staff members.
For the price this resort charges, the experience was horrific. I rarely leave bad reviews because I prefer to support businesses, but I feel compelled to warn others: spend your money elsewhere. Visit at your own risk—I am not exaggerating.
