The location was nice and secluded although if you want to get off the resort you'll have to arrange that. Atmosphere was nice, very humid. Rooms were very nice, clean and updated. Value was ok as some of the restaurants were already closing for renovations while we stayed the weekend before the resort closed on Monday. The noise level was never an issue and we even stayed near the kids side of the resort. Service was pretty phenomenal by all wait staff.

Went a few weeks ago and they informed us WHEN WE GOT THERE that they were closing down in 3 weeks so things may be under construction. They weren't kidding. They didnt close any of the pools down but were doing the work right there. Chipping cement block walls right off into the pools people were swimming in. They even dropped a dirty greasy sponge in the pool right in front of us. It would have been nice to know at booking that there would be "some" construction. But nope. Then the smell. It smelled like a musty cigar all over. It was intense. Especially when you went to the buffet. It took me 3 times of washing my clothes when I get home to get the smell out. The food. Oh man the food, bland. No seasonings what so ever. We went to the steak house one night and the steak tasted like they boiled it. Just nasty. The only thing that was good was the waffles at the buffet in the mornings. The service. Bad. Simple as that. The bartenders staff was very rude and deliberately didnt make eye contact so they didnt have to make drinks. They also refused to make any shots other than straight up ones. They said they "weren't allowed". I've never been to an all inclusive that doesn't make shots. Then when you tried asking the bar staff to make a drink they walked away half way through your order and made pretty much whatever they wanted that was close enough. The servers and hosts at the restaurants were un accommodating as well. We had a party of 7 and the only place that would let us eat together was at the buffet. Other days we had to sit separately and out tables were never close to each other even though we repeatedly asked to sit next to each other. Anything we asked for seemed like a huge inconvenience. I could go on and on about my stay. But I won't waste anymore of your time. Just as I wouldn't waste your time or money on this resort. There are WAY better ones in the area.

Not luxurious at all. When we arrived at our room, we immediately noticed the run-down condition of it. There were mosquitoes flying around everywhere inside our room, and 3 dead ones in the tub. The fridge didn’t work, and after complaining several times and the staff telling us they replaced it (they didn’t), we resorted to using our friends’ fridge for our baby formula. The staff knew we had a baby yet put us in a room right next to the loud music area of the resort. My baby ended up getting bitten by a million mosquitoes, and we had to buy bug spray from the gift shop which was $26!!!!! Guest services refused to compensate us for that. They “fumigated” our room (we could not enter for 2 hours) yet the mosquitoes remained. Ordered room service 3 times. First time was fine, second time never came, third time came after an hour and the food was laughably bad. The resort is supposed to have all these bars and restaurants but most of the bars are closed and the restaurants require reservations well in advance. The portions are also really small, like tapas. The buffet was huge but not the quality you would expect. The pools were nice, but the beach was full of seaweed and there were some structures under construction which took away from the vibe. The beach chairs were all really close together and the whole beach area felt like an afterthought. The beach bar ran out of beer and ice. The drinks were also really weak. My friends and I “drank the rainbow” meaning we had a cocktail for every color of the rainbow. 6 cocktails. We were barely buzzed. The pool had a snack window and we got the most outrageously leathery hot dogs I’ve ever seen. The only positive thing about this resort was how hilariously terrible everything was. If you like to laugh and hate luxury, you should definitely come here.

I recently stayed at Royalton Riviera Cancun and overall had a pleasant getaway. The highlight for me was definitely the food the restaurants served up tasty meals with a great selection, and dining was something I truly looked forward to each day. The rooms had a cozy charm, though they could use a little sprucing up to match the beautiful surroundings. The outdoor pools and grounds felt like they’d seen better days, and I think a little extra care there would go a long way in making the whole resort feel more vibrant and inviting. Service at Nibles was on the slower side, which gave things a more laid-back pace than expected. But the staff was kind, and the atmosphere stayed relaxed throughout our stay. All in all, the resort has lovely potential, and with a few refreshes here and there, I can see it becoming a truly special place. If you’re looking to unwind and enjoy some fantastic food, it’s worth considering!

To be completely up front I booked this resort because I got an incredible deal for my family of 4 and we wanted to be closer to the airport. Our last trip we stayed close to Tulum and it was more than 90 mins on the shuttle to the resort. The Royalton is 15-20 mins to the airport which was great. That being said, the beach area is affected by the mangroves and is not the nicest.||Pros:|Big resort but easy to find short cuts to things|Lots of pools- no towel cards was a nice change but you had to grab them early|Kids club, my 10 year old loved the crafts and air conditioning|Gym~ I know people like to relax on vacation but this is the best gym I have experienced at a resort. It’s not cramped, great equipment, they have fitness classes (not early enough for me)|Restaurants~ we had no trouble getting reservations but the resort was not at capacity as sections were closed for renovations before the full shut down. This I think made it easier for us. The only restaurant that wasn’t great was the Teppanyaki. The food wasn’t great and it was very hot. Otherwise we loved the breakfast buffet and dinners.|Coffee shop~ often had a line but was great coffee and you could get snacks and ice cream|Room~ we had an ocean front one bedroom presidential suite. Not only was it the best view, the room was very spacious. We were able to get a cot as well so our girls didn’t have to share the small pull out bed.||Cons:|Entertainment wasn’t great. Not a lot of activities during the day.|Lunch~ Near the pools, food options were limited. Italian was nice but a sit down. The food trucks were meh and the snack bar was awful. Fries and over cooked burgers/ chicken strips get tiring.|Shade~ seems like most of the umbrellas were missing. They don’t have palapas but perhaps they can find other ways to create some shade. I know it’s Mexico but even the locals don’t sit in the sun in mid July.|Bar service was hit or miss. Only one day did a server stop and ask if we wanted to order a drink near the pools, out of 8 days.|Had to ask for things repeatedly to get them. We had no hair dryer or steamer in our room, took 3 days to get them.|Room service was a nice perk but took a minimum of an hour and was never correct. |Location~ close to the airport, far from everything else. If you just want to stay on the resort, it’s great.||To be honest, I don’t think we experienced the Royalton the way it normally operates. We were there about three weeks before they fully shut it down. They were running out of things, the entertainment wasn’t great and very sparse. The pools are a bit run down and they seemed to be very short staffed. We still enjoyed our stay. But I am not sure I would return at the prices they normally charge because like I mentioned, I found an amazing deal.

We have just enjoyed a lovely week at the Royalton Riviera Cancun. We booked 2 Diamond Club rooms, not only are they nicer but you also have full access to all of its restaurants and bars. All the staff were really pleasant and ever helpful. In the DC you also get a butler who can book all of the al a carte restaurants for you. Some of the service issues we encountered coupled with a few of pool areas are needing some repairs means I can't give 5 stars. I don't think it's acceptable for you to get starters served before they have even found your bottle of wine, this is supposed to be 5 star. Incidentally and much to their embarrassment they couldn't find the ordered (and paid for separately but refunded) bottle of wine, not a shining moment. The hotel is closing in August for a refurb so that might sort those issues out. The pools were lovely, swim up bars at all of them. The beach is absolutely fabulous, sunrise on first morning was stunning. Rooms were very nice and the aircon was great. All the food we ate was fantastic, the buffet was really good, favourite family meal was at the Tepanyaki. We recommend this place and we also suggest that the Diamond Club is the way forward and worth the extra money, it does come with plenty of addition perks (listed on the website), however we probably wouldn't return as there are plenty of other nice places to visit in the world.

This was my first time in Mexico. I have dreamed of going my whole life and I finally was blessed to go this past March for my birthday. My husband and I fell in love. We loved the views. We loved the people, especially Hilda and Rodgrigo our butler. We loved it so much we are heading back again in January for 10 days instead of 7!! We are excited to see the renovations and can't wait to see some familiar faces.

We had the most wonderful time at the resort. The staff were super friendly without being obsequious and genuinely wanted all guests to have the best experience. Our youngest loved the kids club too (even though she was at the older end of the scale) and they had such a wide variety of activities.
