Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort

Our stay at Royalton Splash was unfortunately extremely distressing and disappointing. Out of the 11 people in our group, 5 of us became very sick with what appeared to be severe food poisoning. Both my husband and I were sick at the same time. His condition became so serious that he had to be rushed by taxi to a hospital. The situation escalated to the point where he required surgery after his stomach ruptured from excessive vomiting. What was supposed to be a family vacation quickly turned into a medical emergency. Before we even left for our vacation, I had seen posts from other guests reporting similar illnesses. Many of the reviews were anonymous, and we chose to look past them, assuming they may not have been accurate. Unfortunately, after experiencing this ourselves, it is very hard to dismiss those concerns. While we were there, I also overheard members of an entire wedding party discussing how many of them had gotten sick as well. It is extremely concerning to see so many guests experiencing similar symptoms. One of the most disturbing experiences was after I had been violently ill and threw up in the ice bucket in our room. I personally witnessed housekeeping simply rinse it out and place it back on the dresser. It was not properly sanitized or replaced. Given the circumstances, this felt completely unsanitary and unacceptable. It’s a shame the experience turned out this way because the resort itself is beautiful. However, it feels far too large for proper oversight. In our opinion, it does not seem to be properly managed when it comes to food safety and sanitation. Speaking with guest services about the illness was a complete waste of time — our concerns did not feel taken seriously, and no meaningful action or reassurance was provided. Illness can happen anywhere, but when multiple guests are getting sick and sanitation practices appear questionable, it raises serious concerns about food safety and hygiene standards at this resort. This was not the safe, relaxing vacation we expected. I strongly urge the resort to take guest health, food safety, and cleaning protocols much more seriously moving forward.

Stayed at this resort February 06 - 09 , 2026. First impression was the luggage valet shouting "Tequila, Tequila, Tequila you want Tequila" as he opened the car door which I did not appreciate on this family vacation. Next impression was the check in process that took over an hour. This included a great amount of time describing upgrade options at our supposed "all inclusive" (cabanas, kids activities), the cost of which would go away by sitting through a time share presentation. On the hotel, I have never seen a hotel like this, interior corridors are all concrete, no windows, no carpet, no sound dampening. You will hear every child and late night partier shouting. You will also hear the thump of the dance clubs bass in every room. The room itself was not bad, though the hotel did not meet our requested room setup, not even looking to see that we made a request prior to our arrival, so don't expect them to comply with any request. There were a couple of items in the room that needed work (closet door hinge broken, room safe not accessible) which we told staff about but they did not fix during our stay. Finally the food, beware of dining. There was a norovirus outbreak and they had no hand sanitizer entering the buffet or restaurants and staff did not seem to be attentive in disinfecting. Plus, I never ate a hot dish while there, ever dish was served just warm. There is a beautiful, albeit narrow beach. But there may be better hotel options.

Overall, we had a good family experience. The service throughout the resort was genuinely friendly and welcoming. One tip: learn the coffee “hacks” at the 2nd floor bar — it made a big difference and was one of our favourite spots for drinks. The water slides, however, were a disappointment. The water flow was inconsistent, and the larger slide in particular felt a bit unsafe. I wouldn’t recommend the bigger slides as they are right now. Also, I’d suggest skipping breakfast room service. Lunch and dinner room service were much better in both quality and timing. All in all, it was a good experience for a family trip, with great staff and a fun atmosphere, just a few areas that could use improvement.

It is impossible for me to believe the good reviews for this place. Pros Large, well-lit rooms Daily stocked minibar (water, beer, soda) Plenty of pools Brazilian and Mediterranean restaurants were very good Japanese was average. Cons This is an enormous, overcrowded resort with 17 interconnected buildings and poor signage. Elevators were unreliable or not working at all, and there was a sewage smell during certain times of the day. We booked 3 rooms in advance but they put us three floors apart, and that was a problem for the grandchildren. The all-inclusive experience is clearly tiered. Unless you pay for Diamond, service and amenities are noticeably inferior: no beach chair cushions, worse food, and slower service. EVERYTHING is gratuity-driven and expected. Food stands frequently run out of items (burgers without fries, limited portions). The buffet claims to close at 4:00 PM but staff began removing food at 3:30, refusing even a piece of fruit while it was still on display. The buffet is actually good, but coffee machines don't always work. Beach towels often ran out, and chair reservations are chaotic, guests wake up at 5:00 AM to reserve chairs, yet tipped staff would remove other people’s towels to give chairs to others. Sunscreen: $35 but you get a beach bag if you buy two. And if you have a headache and no medication, might as well be prepared to spend a lot. Restaurant reservations are nearly impossible. We are a family of 7, but bookings max out at 6 and always unavailable. After complaining to the office, we were booked as 6 and then challenged and hostesses "had to speak to management" upon arrival. Food quality varied widely: Brazilian: excellent Mediterranean: very good Japanese: good Hunter Steakhouse: sub-par unless you buy a $70 steak Smoke BBQ & Mexican: poor food and rude service Italian: their Surf and turf for new year's consisted of a small piece of steak and ONE SHRIMP. With over 3,000 guests, lines were everywhere. Check-in was chaotic, took over an hour, and check-out was just as slow. Even our grandchildren (8 and 11) were counting the days to leave. Bottom Line Nice rooms and a couple of good restaurants do not justify the price. This was a very expensive trip and a disappointing stay.

Had a great 5 days at Splash!! I was worried after so many negative reviews, but this was very comparable to other all inclusives we have been to previously. We did Diamond Club, which i felt was worth it. Would we have had a good trip without it? Yes,but it helped make everything so much smoother. Brenda and Elui were wonderful butlers who helped us so much!! The diamond check in was great and the diamond-only pool area was really nice. We also rented a bali bed one day to be close to the warmest pool, which was really nice. Hugo was our server for the bali bed and he was great!! Some pools were quite chilly, but it was also cloudy and windy so the weather was mostly to blame... Food was fine, nothing spectacular... Enjoyed grazie for lunch and habachi for dinner was very good. Buffet was so-so, not amazing. |The water park was really fun! Enjoyed the slides! Played laser tag and my kid did the tampoline park too - Christopher in the aracde area was wonderful! Beach was lovely, and grounds were very nice and clean. All the staff was very kind and helpful. The evening entertainment was fun, we liked the white party and LOVED the silent disco. We weren't sure if the 45 minute line to get headphones would be worth it, but it was! This place definitely catered to families, and the vibe team during the day was great too. We played pool volleyball with Julia, did a dance class, did the foam party, and this wild water balloon game that was insane!!! Thank you Splash for a great trip!!!

The resort was really nice it’s not fully done. The staff was hit and miss. At times they were nice and friendly. The beach was full of sargassum, not the best location to be inside the beach. The location very far and taxi very expensive. 70 dollars one way to be in the city. Rent a car if your wanting to explore. They did not have a huge selection in food. RUI, iberostar and Grand Fiesta America had a better selection. It’s ok if you have kids that want to enjoy the water park. I give it a 7 out of 10.

We were at the Royalton Splash for a 60th birthday. We were 60 guests and we got a wonderful customer service. The staff were attentive to our needs and always tried to accommodate us. There are 3 pools that you can choose from but good luck getting a chair by the pool side. Guests are up at 630 reserving their seats. The kids club is great, my daughter wanted to go everyday and Ivanna and the other staff were quite welcoming and made my daughter feel comfortable.

We stayed at this resort from Jan 22-29. There was 30 of us as a big family vacation. There is a lot of pros about this resort and a few cons but unfortunately the cons are SO BAD that I can not recommend this resort to anyone. List below is pros and cons Pros -Super friendly staff. Kind and helpful, Kevin, Sandra and Migel were so awesome. -Zen teppanyaki was great. Show was fantastic and food was the absolutely delicious. -buffet breakfasts were great, you can see the staff works really hard to keep all stations full and guests happy. -shows were fun -lots to do for kids of all ages Cons -check in was terrible. The people at the counter were rude and not helpful. It’s honestly not a good start to the trip. Because I had a read reviews about check-in being terrible, I had ahead of time emailed the resort and told them there is a large group of us coming and arrange for all of us to be in the same spot. They Completely ignored this, even though I had emails from the resort saying this will be arranged! - out of 30 of us 8 of us got violently food poisoned. Including my 6 year old son who ended up in the hospital over night. THIS ONE IS THE ABSOLUTE DEAL BREAKER FOR US. We have been to Mexico many times and have never experienced anything like this before. Again, because I had read reviews about food poisoning, I had emailed the resort and Marriott and voiced my concerns… They had reassured me that they take very good care of all their food handling. Clearly not the case :( To be fair I have to add that hotel got us a physician right away for our son and paid for transportation and our stay at the hospital. They genuinely seemed worried about him. But honestly it really ruined our trip. The poor little guy had to get 2 bags of IV. For this last reason our family will not be returning to this resort.
