When in Hawaii, we knew we had to try one (or a few) of Roy Yamaguchi's restaurants - we made advance reservations for Roy's for dinner, and we were pretty excited for the meal.
We started off with:
+a Hawaii Kai Crab Cake - with spicy sesame beurre blanc
+Bigeye Ahi Tostada - with avocado, garlic soy, truffle aioli, and tobiko
+Crispy Zucchini - with a cilantro X.O. relish and a 'crown noodle' crispy bao bun; I asked for the relish to be served on the side
+a Palala Roll - with crispy shrimp, spicy tuna, avocado, and pepper-yaki sauce
+a Shibby Roll - with garlic salmon, spicy ahi, kanpachi, jade pesto, lemon soy, and ikura
For our mains, we ordered:
+Roy's Classic Trio - with misoyaki butterfish, macadamia nut fresh local catch (mahi mahi), and hibachi grilled salmon
+Garlic Parm Jumbo Black Tiger Shrimp - with lump crab ravioli and kahuku sea asparagus grenobloise
+Slow Braised Honey Mutard Glazed Beef Short Rib - with pommes puree, power natural jus, and lomi tomatoes
+Mochi Crunch' Wasabi Horseradish Fork Tender Beef Cheeks - with hauula tomatoes and a leek & shallot natural jus
We made some room for dessert, as we wanted to try Roy's Signature Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle, served with raspberry coulis and vanilla bean ice cream.
Portions were super generous, so you'll definitely be walking away with a full belly!
Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant itself was chic and classy.
