A Local's Guide to Wisconsin's Coolest Culinary Experiences

"Based at a 20-acre roasting facility in rural Nelsonville with a small weekend café and a year-round café in Stevens Point, this roaster emphasizes strict micro lot separation: coffee fruits are picked ripe from plants and isolated in batches based on what part of the farm they come from. As the outer layers of the cherry are removed and the seeds are cleaned and dried, this lot separation is maintained to create limited-edition batches. Their bestselling Creamery Blend is served at the Stevens Point café and pairs well with a breakfast sandwich made with eggs sourced from Bice’s in Vesper. The roaster picked up the nickname "the Bon Iver of coffee," which owner Jared Linzmeier is tickled by: "Their work is a celebration and exploration of Wisconsin culture and Midwest traditions. I wonder if this means we’ve been able to introduce exciting, perhaps unexpected, coffees to the world from our rural location." - Kelly Aiglon

Upon arrival: We noticed several handicapped parking places but there were steps up to the front door ...I'm not sure if there was a ramp in back. At the door: there seem to be a line It was busy and bustling lots of seats were taken but It was not difficult to find a place to sit. There is a shelf along the ordering line with menus for food and drinks, I noticed a fireplace and it had begun to snow so I asked the server if they were planning to turn it on and she immediately did to our delight! Ordering: after getting situated by the fire, we made our selections from the menu and approached the counter to place our order. The counter staff was delightful and helpful and took our order in a very friendly way apologizing for the items that were out of stock and helping us make alternate selections. Enjoying our meal: my mushroom crepe wasn't exactly what I expected but was good nevertheless, and my husband ordered the harvest bowl which was delicious! I imagine it could be very different every time you ordered if you chose a different meat each time. I would like to go back and try different crepes on the menu as well. Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of the gluten-free barley crepe and mostly just liked the filling! I highly recommend the fig latte which was the flavor I chose because I was disappointed they were out of the Cherub crepe that has figs. Before leaving: We asked what to do with our dishes and there are busing trays hidden at the corner of the bar where we were able to leave our dishes because we wanted someone else to be able to enjoy the corner table by the fireplace. If we lived nearby we would definitely visit again for the unique menu! We might even make the 30 minute trip for someplace special when we are in the mood for a real treat.

I enjoy the s’mores latte and other drinks I have tried. The presentation and taste of the latte makes me feel like I am camping and enjoying some smores. Also, the food has been scrumptious. I have enjoyed the veggie scone and the bacon scone. Each time I have been here it has been great!

I am a little biased because I work here as a barista and kitchen member, but this is hands down the best place for coffee in Point. (my favorite is the maple flat white or the maple cold foam cold brew, also the iced matcha latte is incredible). Our menu is based around what we are able to find locally, seasonally, or organically, including the maple syrup & honey of course! We accommodate gluten-free and vegan diets, as well as other food allergies as long as we are notified at register/over the phone/through our online ordering service. Most of our bakery is gluten-free!! It gets a little busy here on the weekends, so it's not always the best place to try to get computer work or reading done, but many do, including myself, at least during the week. Feel free to ask the baristas questions, as we are trained to go in depth about coffee & other treats we offer with you! Even before I worked here, this was my most frequented coffee shop. We source our coffee directly from farms and have built strong relationships with our farmers so as to cooperate on making the best beans for their roast and brew. This is a great place to connect, meet new friends, and build community. So many Stevens Point community network growers come here to meet and enjoy some delicious coffee and food.

Google
Great atmosphere with delishious coffee & teas - my go-to is the matcha. Delishious food with a little twist to wake your taste buds up. Everything I've had has been so good! Today I had the Avocado Poke Rice Bowl...tangy notes flavorfully balanced brigtness. Healthy goodness!

Google
Cozy little coffee shop with a perfect honey latte and chill vibes. They have a nice selection of merch as you walk in. The honey latte was perfection and I would go back in an instant to try more of their drinks. They do also have a food menu and some desserts that look very tasty. They have a few different seating areas which breaks the pace up nicely considering how small it is. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area.

Google
I went two mornings in a row while I was in Stevens Point. I tried their lavender honey latte, and it was amazing. The harvest bowl was hearty and plentiful, lots of potatoes and bacon. The French toast my son had was that perfect texture of homemade bread. The avocado toast “nest” was a little disappointing- I actually liked the avo toast better at the Wooden Chair down the street. Overall the food was good, the service was quick (even with the long line) and the atmosphere was On Point with all the coffee shop vibes. Larger than many coffee shops so I was able to snag a table both mornings.

Google
This place is worth a road trip! We are blessed to have it right in our back door in downtown Stevens Point! Delicious fresh roasted coffees, fresh, healthy ingredient food that presents as good as it tastes, friendly staff, fun merch, other local businesses promoted, bakery that’s second to none… are just a few reasons you’ll love Ruby. The crepes are a hands down favorite. Either savory and filling or if you have a sweet tooth, the other varieties are amazing but not too sweet! The avocado toast and egg were done to perfection and give you lots of good energy to start your day. The quiche is always amazing too but you have to get there early to get any!! It’s a popular item! Enjoy lots of variety of drinks, anyway you like your coffee. The Ruby crew knows what they’re doing and the atmosphere proves they take pride in the outcome!! You won’t be disappointed with this local favorite!

Google
Always great coffee!! A good variety of locally sourced flavors and ingredients used for the menu too. Enjoyed tomato bisque and grilled cheese today. Even on a hot Summer day it was great.

Yelp
I had a fabulous breakfast of potatoes with over-easy eggs, cooked perfectlyto order I also had a mocha which was made with care by a very nice barista--it was delicious. Small, loud and bustling coffee shop vibes.

Yelp
Thanks to a friend who said "we must try" Ruby's.... Yes! What a great selection of coffees and teas. Service is friendly and helpful. Didn't have food- but the plates/dishes looked delicious and fresh. The BLT sits on a rustic white bread that my gf said is really good. Busy but plentiful seating areas... even around the cozy fire. Definitely happy to come back here again.

Yelp
Solid cafe in the heart of Stevens Point. Great chill, hip vibe with great coffee and solid light fare. Recommend both the breakfast sandwich and breakfast BLT. Both come in tasty freshly baked bread.

Yelp
They have pour-over! And my breakfast scramble was amazing and filling. This is your breakfast spot in SP! I'm a big-breakfast guy so this was very satisfying. Tasted amazing too. Service was very friendly and accommodating to my requests. Bonus: it's a beautiful day today and there's a park right across the street on the river. Picnic vibes for sure. The first 3-star review I read was from 4 years ago and gave Covid vibes. This place deserves and in my mind has earned a 5.0 rating. What more could a guy want? I'm sure based on my scramble and other reviews that all the food is outstanding. Coffee is great of course. And farm fresh everything to boot. This is the spot!

Deanna E.

Yelp
So many gluten free options! I so appreciated it. Great coffee and lovely ambiance in a nice downtown location.

Ginger T.

Yelp
This place makes me want to live in Steven's Point. The breakfast tacos are . Kids loved the blueberry lemon crepes. Vibes are great. Didn't get the merch, but I wanted it! 10/5 stars. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Amazing espresso drinks! Made just right, you can taste the yummy espresso and whatever flavor you select - not overly sweet like the big chain coffee shops. Food is also amazing. Service fantastic! Only problem is there is no Ruby Coffee Roasters in the Twin Cities. We should fix that!

Yelp
A great little spot with nice decor and tasty looking small bites. But I was there for what should be a basic request from a specialty coffee shop.....espresso. One would figure that a business claiming to have "real" coffee, unlike the national chains (the barista's words not mine), would actually know the differences in espresso shots. Unfortunately for Ruby, that was not the case during my visit. I asked for a dopio lungo, and received a most puzzling look of bewilderment from the barista charged with helping me. So I restated my order in more layperson verbiage: Me: "Double long shot espresso" Barista: (still clueless) Me: "It's a double shot where more water is pulled than a standard shot or a ristretto short shot." Barista: crickets Me: "Your machine should have a button for it" Barista: (finally some life) "We use 40 grams for our espresso" Me: "I want a double pulled long" The barista acquiesced, took my money, and began to pull my shots. After a few moments of her fiddling with her machine. She happily handed me my drink.......a single shot of espresso. Me: smh So what's the moral of this story? If you are going to call yourself a "coffee company", please take the time to learn the VERY BASICS of coffee. I get it that the majority of your clients don't know what coffee is unless it's dripping with caramel or some other form of bastardization, but please learn the essence of your professed expertise. The shot had some sweetness typically associated with an espresso and did lack the bitterness of some of the national brands, but the burnt undertone was difficult to overlook and left a linger flavor of carbon on the edges of my palette. A very disappointing coffee experience.

Yelp
We stopped for a quick breakfast here before leaving town and it was great! Loved the honey lavender latte and blueberry oat bar. They sell coffee beans and they even grind it for you. So i bought the fig almond cherry dark chocolate blend seasonal coffee and it is absolutely delicious. Definitely would come back!

Matthew A.

Yelp
An excellent breakfast with even better coffee. Love it. Wish it was a local spot in my town.

Yelp
Grabbed coffee with my sister and wife before some hikes. Definitely has the caffeine to power you through any activity!! Service was super fast and had my drink pert near before I could finish saying the order. Lovely little cafe with lots of seating and outdoor space! Now...for the cappuccino review as all my fans know I give the most in depth review that will surely knock your socks off. Cappuccino: 3.5/5 Honestly, it was objectively a good cappuccino. I just didn't really care for it. Maybe it was just my taste buds for the day or maybe the beans were a bit off/old. I'd give it another try! But for that day, it wasn't the best one I've ever had. The drinks my sister and wife had were absolutely baller. This place is worthy of a 4 star review and could be a 5 if I try the cappuccino again!

Barbara A H.

Yelp
The breakfast food we ordered was delicious and healthy. We have been to this coffee shop/restaurant a few times and they continue to prepare an amazing meal. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Very nice here they have bathrooms and outlets and it's very cozy very easy to read menu
google avatar

Yelp
I met my friend here for breakfast and coffee. Nice selection of items with some specials mixed in. I had the breakfast BLT and one of the special coffees. Service was quick and it was good. I'd come back!

Yelp
Ruby, coffee is some of my favorite coffee. The staff and café were very nice and clean. Would highly recommend this coffee to anyone that hasn't tried it before.

Noah M.

Yelp
Get the breakfast tacos and any specialty coffee. But seriously get the breakfast tacos with sausage thru are unreal
google avatar

Mindy P.

Yelp
Love the vibe here! Ruby Coffee Roasters has a wide selection of beverages and food, which makes this place excellent for all occasions! I came here for brunch and had a difficult time choosing what to eat because everything sounded soooo good. We went with a savory crepe and French toast to have a little sweet and a little savory. Loved them both! The sausage and potato in the crepe were tasty and the French toast was not overly sweet. Great service and location is perfect. I will make this spot my go-to place now for coffee and yummy food!
google avatar

Paige M.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop located in Steven's point which offers a variety of coffee and caffeinated drinks. Rubys has a great selection of brunch/breakfast foods and also grab and go eats. I tried the honey lavender latte with a tomato basil scone. My sister had the s'mores latte with a lavender breakfast cookie. Both the drinks and grab and go breakfast sides were lovey and fresh. The scone was no dry at all which I greatly appreciated and the staff was very friendly. Would highly recommend stopping if you're in the area

Yelp
We stopped here on our way out of town for some hiking and was very pleased with our experience! They have a large parking lot, which made things easy to start. The service was efficient and very pleasant. I ordered a small caramel late and was surprised to see how big it was! The s'mores late was so cute and came with a vegan marshmallow. The ambiance was very cute and could be a fun place to be in both summer and winter. We did not get food, but the menu looked delicious.

Amy D.

Yelp
Great drinks! Food was fresh, innovative and delicious. We have the Benedict special with perfect hollandaise sauce and a breakfast sandwich. The scones and nana bread could have used a little more live but all in all a good meal.
google avatar

Anna P.

Yelp
Spent the weekend in Steven's Point and made it to Ruby's TWICE! It was good enough to come back. Enjoyed a honey latte one day and a traditional cold brew with creamer the next. Their peanut butter and chocolate chip bar was DELICIOUS and vegan! Egg and toast was also good....especially the whole grain toast. Very flavorful. The line was out the door both mornings. Great atmosphere with a rustic, natural wood and black vibe.
google avatar

Anna Z.

Yelp
Top notch coffee. Brunch bowls are phenomenal! Service has always been great. Very clean and inviting cafe.
google avatar

Yelp
Formerly the Water street Grill- this lovely space has been transformed into a cozy coffee and food heaven! The staff is knowledgeable and skilled in their craft. Drinks are brewed, steeped and created with care and the results are well balanced. The food is fresh and flavorful! The vegetarian friendly fair is worth a stop all on its own! Lots of seating, places to study, catch up with a friend. If I was based in Point- this would be my go-to!
google avatar

Yelp
I love Ruby's! Its such a cute spot! They have tons of gluten free options and are so nice about modifying items for food allergies! And the staff are so kind! Such a treat! Thank you!

Isabelle J.

Yelp
Very cute store. Everyone working seemed so sweet. Despite being quite busy, service was quick. It was a bit crowded in there. Looked like there was outdoor seating but not sure if it wasn't open or what because no one was out there. Overall great and would go again.
google avatar

Geoff P.

Yelp
Fun coffee joint with a very "campus" vibe to it. I had breakfast there with some colleagues, and we were uniformly impressed with the quality of the food and the beverages. I would definitely swing back here next time I am in Point.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, this place can't be missed in Steven's Point. We stopped for coffee... after seeing the menu, we grew our plan into breakfast and lunch. Let's start here- they have delicious pastries and sweets, pretty much something for everyone. I would go out of your way just for these... but there's more. Uncover their full menu - you'll find a diverse offering of sweet and savory beautifully crafted meals. The burger was a treat and lots of house made sauces and other gems.
google avatar

Jeka M.

Yelp
Fantastic flavors, great vibe, local treats to buy including gluten free, coffee to go, local mixes and honey and such, and super cute decorating.
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee shop with yummy food and cool ambience. My local coffee shop in Madison, WI serves their coffee so I made the stop while driving through. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Tom C.

Yelp
They are a bit pricey, but they definitely serve a good cup of coffee. I love that they are community-minded.

Elle A.

Yelp
Came here Sunday mid morning and the atmosphere was friendly and quiet. We had seasonal vegetable and tempeh crepe, our oat milk lattes were excellent, and the building was clean and beautiful - plenty of outdoor seating.
google avatar

Doug K.

Yelp
Really good cup of coffee. I was passing through Steven's Point and stopped here. The internet suggested it was the best cafe in town. Well the internet is not always right. But this time it did not lie. I drink my coffee black. A tasty complex cup of coffee. Mildly sweet with a flavorful bean taste. I also like that they had large and small to go cups. As much as I love coffee sometimes pretentious coffee culture can be annoying. I did not catch any of that vibe here. I liked it so much I went back to get a second cup. Service was very friendly as well.
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
Perfection. This coffee is world famous and it should be. For a corner of the world that often goes unnoticed - it is quite refreshing to have this gem in, literally, our neck of the "woods". Worth the 90min drive from Rhinelander.
google avatar

Carl S.

Yelp
Super nice and extremely knowledgeable staff. Obviously great coffee. I was pleasantly surprised at the breakfast options. The strawberry crepe was fresh made and delicious without being overly sweet. Loved the San Juan coffee and very much looking forward to trying some of the other breakfast options!

Yelp
Fantastic coffee, beautiful space, and the best gluten-free quiche and crepes we've ever had. Ruby is our first stop whenever we visit Stevens Point.

First L.

Yelp
My recent experience... I stopped at Ruby coffee and wore my mask. I was about to order and was rudely interrupted by a worker behind the lady that was going to take my order. The man told me to pull my mask above my nose since it was slightly below. First off, the door just says, masks required. It does not say if you wear a mask slightly below your nose your not allowed into the store. Also, nobody else was in line with me and there is plexiglass as a barrier between me and the co-workers. Lastly, this made me feel small and not welcome into the store. It was an awkward moment for me and the employees. As I walked out, I didn't hear anything from anyone so they didn't care if they lost their business from me. This was extremely disappointing to experience, and sadly I no longer support or recommended this coffee shop because of this incident.
google avatar

Shannon T.

Yelp
I needed a coffee pick me up. It is a hipster atmosphere and a good menu. The coffee was good, I would recommend going! I didn't get to try their pastries, but it looked good with a decent variety
google avatar

Madelaine C.

Yelp
This place is the best. The cold brew is amazing. It's closed due to COVID but they still have an amazing walkup window. Love love love it!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
Best coffee in a 100 mile radius and the food is incredible too! The staff is very friendly (to customers and to each other! Always nice to see!) and the location is super. If I lived in Stevens Point I'd be here every day. PRO TIP: if you're heading up north to go camping or whatevs stop here and pick up their instant coffee. I couldn't have survived working on the road this summer without it.
google avatar

Nathaniel T.

Yelp
My absolute favorite place in all of Stevens Point! Beverages are incredible, food is so unique and fresh, and the staff are some of the nicest people around. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone I can!

M B.

Yelp
My mom and I were in town visiting family this weekend. Our hotel was close to here and we thought we'd try it out. I will say that the brief interaction with the guy taking our order was great - he was friendly. However as cool as the interior vibe of this space is, the service (other than the guy who took our order) seemed a little icy. I imagine COVID has something to do with that - less interaction in general. But it was this feeling that we were a bother. I know ruby has a great reputation for coffee. I don't doubt that. I ordered the honey latte, my mom ordered a maple latte. They tasted pretty much the same. They were both lukewarm. Again, I know COVID has changed the way we do business. But I feel like the customer service and temperature could be turned up a bit.

Michelle G.

Yelp
What a gem of a spot! This is what happens when coffee, food and design come together. Couldn't have asked for a cozier place to spend my morning and the coffee was delicious!

Paige D.

Yelp
So yummy. Better than anything I've had in Minneapolis, which is where I'm from. Very cute place. Super fun menu and crepes! Coffee drinks also superb.
