Nature and Parks in Denver

"Ruby Hill Park offers an incredible view of Denver from just west of the South Platte River in the Overland neighborhood. In winter, a ski and snowboard rail yard takes over a portion of this massive park, making for a strong — and free — place to hone your jibbing skills. In summer, you can catch weekly free concerts and a heavy lineup of national touring artists at the newly opened Levitt Pavilion, a grassy, outdoor amphitheater and event venue." - MATADOR_NETWORK

My favorite park in the entire world You can: Bike Ski Snowboard Mountain bike Concerts Bathrooms And way more I wish I lived at a park like this there is so much to do and so much to see

Google
This is a big park which has an outdoors swimming pool. This park also has a big playground. A gazebo for celebrations and parties. A dirt bike area, a place for concerts. I was surprised to see all of the things that you can do there. There’s even a community garden there and the view is pretty beautiful as well. This is a great place to bring your family. If you like this review, leave a thumbs up.

Google
Great park to spend the day. Lots of activities from a skatepark to several baseball fields and lots of tracks to walk around . They even have at a theater where they have large concerts and most are free . Would highly recommend coming to check it out . Not a lot of trees for shade but there are enough if the places at busy that you could have a nice picnic . Has a nice view of downtown from some areas so walk around and enjoy the scenery !

Google
Such an AMAZING venue. Can't believe they do SO MANY free shows!

Google
I love this place! I like how it has a dirt jump area with beginner lines to prolines. If you love to ride and you have little ones they can start small and work their way to larger and more skilled lines safely. Then you got the more downhill wide open jumps more for mountain bikes and slopestyle also providing beginner to pro lines again so good for little ones learning and growing their confidence to safely advance to the next level. Super awesome dirt to Wood features! I love this place!

Google
I thought this was a surprisingly good park for the amount of things to do and its proximity to downtown! There's a bike park for all skill levels, an play area for small kids, an amphitheater for events, a pool and waterslide, an event shelter with sundial calendar, baseball fields, and plenty of shade.

Google
Such an awesome park, playground and BMX bike track and now concert venue. Super family friendly. They allow food and sealed non alcoholic beverages. Friendly staff, the lines for the bathrooms can get long though and if you are going to drink they have options there but they are expensive. Enjoy

Google
Such a fun FREE way to spend the snow days with the kids. The hills here have places to sled for really young kids all the way through the older teenagers and adults. And there is A LOT more space now since they scooter over the snow boarding and skiing area. Be prepared for possibly a lot of people here having fun it can get really busy when the snow is good.

Yelp
Ruby Hill is a park on the south west side of Denver and is known for being one of the more steeper parks in the metro area. Climbing to the top of the hill will boast fantastic views of Downtown Denver and its amazing skyline. In the summer there is a dirt bike park where kids can bring their little BMX and mountain bikes and jump the man made hills. In the winter, Ruby Hill is known for sledding, and on sunny winter days the hills will be packed with kids sledding down the hill all day long. Also like many other parks in Denver, the entrance(s) have been blocked off to vehicular traffic in favor of a safer and more enjoyable environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem and in my neighborhood- concerts in the summer and boarding in the winter- what more could I ask for! Special events like the Mystery tour banked slalom!

Yelp
We went on a terribly windy day, but the kids still had a ton of fun. They all enjoyed the playsets, especially the ones you can spin on and the maze (of sorts). There are great views of Denver and the surrounding area as well. On one side was a huge bike park with ramps and jumps and on the other side was a snowboarding hill.

Yelp
Ruby Hill is super fun to come to and walk around. The views of Denver from the top of the hill are spectacular! You can see Cherry Creek, Downtown, Glendale etc. I came here a few months ago with some friends and went sledging down one of the really steep hills, and nearly broke my back, so that was pretty embarrassing, and painful! Other than that, the park is lovely, and there's plenty of parking spots available. One of the best times to visit Ruby Hill is during an evening sunset, it's so pretty! Come and check this place out.

Yelp
I love the bike park it's so cool I learned most of my skill there it's fun and amazing.

Yelp
A beautiful park with a great view of Denver! Would be a great place to do a photoshoot or a music video. Was there at sunset and played on the swings and some of the rest playground while waiting for a dinner reservation nearby.

Yelp
Wow! I'm on a quest to visit every park in Denver, and so far Ruby Hill is my favorite new find. It's got a huge picnic area, playground, tons of green space for the dogs, and a nice little trail up the north hill. Many of our Denver parks are pretty flat, but a walk up and around Ruby Hill (hills, really!) provides a decent workout. I did two laps - up the trail, over to the playground area, down to the street and back around again) with plenty of stops for photos and just to enjoy the view - took about 40 minutes total. This one is worth a drive to enjoy!

Yelp
Very nice park with good views - my grands had lots of fun playing on playgrounds - they have a fun maze area

Yelp
This play area features a friendly dragon that actually spouts smoke from its nostrils every few minutes! The playground was built in 2011 and boasts 8 spinners, a large educational maze, and a bouncing ring toy. Situated on top of a tall hill, Ruby Hill Park features nice views. A large picnic area and restrooms are located a short walk from the play area. If you're curious to discover more of greater Denver's spectacular play areas, download the iPhone app "Denver Playgrounds & Parks" on the App Store!

Yelp
Driving from KC was tough on my kiddo so we went searching for somewhere to stretch his legs for a bit yesterday and Ruby Hill was an amazing find. Multiple play areas all including different types of stimuli for learning children! The maze was by far our favorite. From the picnic and play area you can look around to see all of the Denver metro, mountains, and places within the park like a bmx park and ball fields! I have to give 3 stars because there was SO much large trash littered around the play area midday. Definitely needs better upkeep.

Yelp
Uh, a terrain park 10 minutes from my house? Yes please! A relaxed environment where I can safely fall on my arse a dozen times before finally executing a proper backside boardslide? Indeed. The rail yard has been around more or less since 2007'ish and is created by Winter Park. They blow a whole bunch of man-made snow once a year, around mid-january, and then when that melts, it's over. It's currently the beginning of February and there's still plenty of cover. Helmets are suggested but not required. Park hours are morning to 11pm (their site says 9pm but the park sign says 11pm) - the bright lights are on until close which makes this perfect for after-work fun times. IT'S FREE. There are occasionally some Ruby Hill volunteers or staff there helping maintain the roll-ins and landings. They also have a tool box with them should your bindings need some adjusting. They do make mild modifications to the features from season to season. For the most part, it's a beginners level park (that doesn't mean you won't see some skilled riders here buttering, jibbing, and making you envious/swoon). The features are low to the ground and the hill isn't very steep. Almost everything is a box, ranging from about 2.5 feet wide to 1 foot wide. This season there is a medium pipe/cylinder that leads onto a rail. There's also a small c-rail/box thing, and sometimes people build tiny little kickers at the bottom of the hill for a third thing to hit. Since the hill is mild, hiking up it is no big deal. Doesn't tire you out near as much as I thought it would. There are snowboarders, skiers, snowskaters, tubers, and sledders here. Everyone shares space well. Unfortunately the percentage of attendees is still about 98 percent dudes (I have been the only woman riding here on more than one occasion). So if you're a femme and reading this, go! It's really mellow. And a sh*t ton of fun.

Yelp
Beautiful views of the city and the mountains. Great spots to picnic and loads of tables under the pavilion, as well as clean bathrooms. Hills to run up and roll down (and sled on in the winter!). Incredible bike park. Ample parking. What's not to love about this gem of a park? I've caught many a gorgeous sunset up here. It's one of our neighborhood go-to's, and there's even better things on the horizon with Levitt Pavillion (hosting free concerts) going in next summer. Check this place out before the crowds come swarming in!

Yelp
Construction is finally finished. The park has a new MASSIVE picnic pavillion that optimizes the 360 degree view of Denver and the front range. There is more parking and a new walking path to the brand new playground. The playground is state of the art with separate areas for every age group and some very unique features that you have to see. And there is still an outdoor pool for summer fun. Summer use of the park should increase with all the improvements but still a continuous trail through and around the park is lacking and there is little or no flat space for sport activities. The huge area and lack of people has made it a favorite of people who walk their dogs off leash. It is illegal but rarely infringes on other's enjoyment of the park. The park is most well known for its winter activities. The hill has been optimal for sledding anytime there is snow on the ground. And for the last few years Winter Park has made snow in January and installed a rail yard for snowboarding and skiing. Info at http://www.denvergov.org/recreation/RubyHillRailYard/tabid/432806/Default.aspx . Useful to note that there are now bathrooms available as well.

Yelp
This is a great spot near the city where there are great views, playground for little kids, snowboard park, mountain bike park and baseball field all within walking distance of each other. A lot of teenager kids at the snow park practicing their rails and jumps but seemed harmless. Great spot to go

Yelp
Good snowstorm? Check. Vintage Flexible Flyer? Check. Excited kids? Check. Get thee away from the Wii nipple, get out of the house and make some indelible family memories. The only place I like better for kid sledding - in town - is in Governor's Park.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
The bike park is awesome, lots of options for every skill level - pump track, dirt jumps, and a cross-country trail loop. Cool place to practice and learn. They've also hosted BMX events here, which is fun to watch.

Yelp
When I first moved to the area a few years ago I really love the Ruby Hill area. This year they added that stupid amp a theater. There are morons walking all over the streets there's no signs for Lyft traffics ridiculous and I can hear music from my damn concert inside my house off Raritan Street. I'm going to start calling him noise complaints to the police every single time it happens. I don't recall ever seeing an opportunity to vote for the amphitheater and I feel it was push through without the neighborhoods decision. We're taking something it was really nice and turned into a shit show.

Yelp
My daughter came here on a surprisingly deserted Friday morning. I would have thought we would have seen a few little kids running around but that was not the case. We had the run of the place so we took advantage of it. I never saw the place before construction but if there have been improvements they are impressive to say the least. It is a very cool and size-able playground with a variety of things to climb on, play with and spin on. It sits on a hill so there is a wide angle view of the metro area, mostly south and east. This is a must go, especially if you have a kid with energy to burn and time to kill.

Yelp
Play softball here every week, and have grown to love this park. Fields are in pretty decent shape, the bathrooms work at least, and parking is plentiful and easy. It's a pretty location with a good view of town and the surrounding areas. The druggies blatantly shooting up in their cars and under trees are a bit of a turn off though.

Yelp
This park is awesome after a snowstorm. There are several really great hills for sledding, and on certain days (e.g., Sunday afternoons) there is a booth that loans out skis and snowboards and boots (for free) to kids and adults, sponsored by Winter Park Resort and Christy Sports. The adjacent Ruby Hill Rail Yard has some snowboarding features that are quite popular (there is no ski lift but the climb is fairly modest). We usually tip the guys at the booth a few bucks.

Yelp
Ruby Hill Park has gotten a couple face lifts recently. The South Platte River was redone so it is kayak-friendly and innertube-friendly. Easy to wade in the river. New BMX technical bicyclist park is opening in July....then volleyball and basketball courts...yeeeesss.

Yelp
On September 22, my friends and me went to Ruby Hill Park for watching a concert. This was the first time that I've been there, there was beautiful. All of the ground there was lawn, people can lay down on the ground and play football. There were several ships that sold many delicious food, such as sandwiches, burgers, pizza and ice cream.

Yelp
A really great park featuring panoramic vistas of the Denver skyline and the Rocky Mountains. Sparsely populated, this park is great for a quiet walk and picnic with your lovah. Also nice in the winter for some quality urban sledding.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
So maybe it's a little rough around the edges, and maybe there are similar parks with great views around Denver (I don't know them, though), but I know I love biking past the Platte and up to the top on a beautiful spring day and having a 360degree view of downtown Denver, D.U., south Denver, and the mountains. Today saw Pike's Peak looming to the south, Mount Evans looking huge to the west, Long's Peak to the north, and the capitol and downtown gleaming to the northeast. I wonder how many people whizzing by on Santa Fe and the Platte River trail even know the park exists? As mentioned by Thomas, there's some great hills for sledding in the winter.

Yelp
We rented a picnic shelter for a medium-sized event, and were really happy with this location. The shelters are newly remodeled, and were really pretty, and in really good shape. The bathrooms are also in good shape. We were at space #2, which is on the north side (Florida Ave) at the main shelter, and the views were just beautiful. There was lots of flat grass nearby, and despite there being two other events being held at slots 2 & 3, our event felt very intimate and quiet. The bathrooms are close by, there are a few power outlets scattered around the shelter, and trashcans were nearby. The only things i wasn't super happy about was the lack of grills at the main shelter (slot #1, by the playground does have them) and no recycling. We had lots of plastic cups, can and soda bottles we would have liked to recycle rather than just trash. Overall, this is a great space, very pretty, easy to access, and really lovely all around.

Yelp
On Saturday, Ruby Hill Park had a performance of four bands, two of them from Denver. This is my first time to see a show in this park. When I first got to the park, I didn't believe there would be a concert, because the stage was halfway up the hill. But it was a very comfortable environment, and I saw people playing football and people sitting in chairs thinking. In this park, there are old people, there are children, there are young people, there are couples who just got married, they get together and enjoy the show together. Generally speaking, it is a very comfortable environment, which is very suitable for people to relax. My friends and I watched the sunset on the top of the mountain. On the day I went, there were ice cream trucks, pizza, and drinks on the side of the road. I like this place very much and I think I will come again.

Yelp
Awesome views in every direction. That and it's proximity to several bike paths and neighborhoods makes this a very functional park.
