For a fun, hip and different hotel experience, try the Ruby Marie hotel. This very creative boutique hotel concept is comfortable and definitely entertaining. It was built inside of an old department store. Everywhere you look, you will discover something that will make you pounder and smile.
The check-in counter is located on the 5th floor and is entirely self serve. It consists of little screens where you check yourself in and the disposable room key cards are dispensed like candies in a candy machine. The helpful and friendly staff is within reach if you need help or have questions.
The bar is the center of attention and is located right across the check-in counter. Behind it, you will find a relaxing wooden terrace filled with colorful garden/beach furniture such as fatboys, tables, chairs, crates, etc. The cocktails and drinks are also creative and oh so good! Weather and time permitting, you can go crash on any of the fatboys and relax for as long as you want, in the sun or shade.
The way to your room will be filled with fun and funny messages and sayings written on walls, elevators, doors and props. Then you enter your rooms and the hotel tradition continues. In the center of your room is a glass shower (yes be sure not to share a room with somebody you are not comfortable with because they will see you shower). Your heavenly bed is wrapped and sealed like a gift with a red silky ribbon. Your night stand is a huge Marshall speaker which you are free to use with either your own music playing device or you can borrow an electric guitar from the lobby area and have a blast in your room! Your room also has a tablet, a flat screen TV, a safe, and many different quality toiletries, family style sizes! And I must say that it was pretty clean as well.
Breakfast was included and entirely organic and of high quality. It consisted of a good variety of different items, something for every taste and all of it super healthy. You will not find any nasty greasy food here! If you are into tea, your head will spin when you see the variety offered. And all so delicious (and organic).
Our floor had a 'library' room and "board" room which were as fun as the rest of the hotel, as well as an ironing board station and a rather interesting vending machine. Let your imagination flow ;-)
This hotel is located in a busy shopping area near the west train station (5 minutes walk) and about a 30 minutes walk from the museum district and center of Vienna. The only drawback I can highlight is that the area that it is in is not the safest and can be quite scary at night. Watch for your bags and wallet when you exit the hotel! But once you are inside the hotel, you are in a bubble and you forget about all the scary and weird people you saw nearby. Enjoy!
