The World's Top 100 Wonders in 2018

"At one time this enchanting little cobbled street, hidden away in the 12th arrondissement, was a “secret place” few people knew about. These days, however, Rue Crémieux is an increasingly sought out haunt for fashion photographers, filmmakers, and people looking for something uniquely suited the color-saturated world of Instagram. In many respects, this quaint throughway between Rue de Lyon and Rue de Bercy doesn’t really feel like Paris at all and is perhaps more reminiscent of Portobello Road in London’s Notting Hill, or Burano in Venice. Amid the colorful façades, trompes l’œil paintings, and shuttered windows, are window boxes and terracotta pots filled with lush plants that add to the feeling you have somehow escaped Paris for a moment. This is a residential street, albeit a very short one, but the homes are not large. In fact, on one side of the street, the building is little more than one room in depth. An interesting fact that few visitors to Rue Crémieux probably realize is that the street is actually named after a lawyer. Jokes aside, it was renamed in 1897 in dedication to Adolphe Crémieux, who defended the human rights of the Jewish people living in France. Instagram has made Rue Crémieux so famous that residents have felt increasingly under siege from visitors who forget that the street is a residential neighborhood. In early 2019, residents tired with the noise, pointing lenses, and inconsiderate tourists asked the city of Paris to erect gates closing the street to visitors on evenings and weekends. One particularly understanding resident of Rue Cremieux told the BBC that she understands people want to visit the street and take pictures, but she asked visitors to “do it with some common courtesy and respect for property owners, fellow visitors, and the environment.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Beautiful colorful street in Paris.

A nice and short block of street with colorful houses near Gare De Lyon station. The street is paved as in the old day. It is wonderful that the residents of the block coordinate to highlight each house with vibrant color. Seems like those houses have kept their champs through years. If one is in the area and have time to wander, then it is a short distance from the Gare station.

Rue Crémieux is like stepping into a fairytale. The colorful houses, cute shutters, and quiet vibe make it feel worlds away from busy Paris. It’s perfect for a peaceful stroll or a few pretty photos. Just a lovely, happy little street.

Yelp
Rue Crémieux is a quaint little hidden neighborhood in Paris. It reminds me of Notting Hill in London. We lucked out visiting this beautiful street and took some liberty memorable photos. But please be mindful and respect the residents. All you need is a few minutes for some photos you'll cherish.

Yelp
This is supposed to be the most colorful street in Paris. We took the metro 30 minutes outside of downtown to the Lyon station & walked almost :10. The street is closed to vehicles. The row houses are a rainbow of faded pastel colors, some had decorations painted on them. There was an interesting display of plants in front of many. When we walked to the end of the street we saw a barricade that indicated it's a residential street & to be quiet & no photos. Well, I saw this when we finished & after all my photos were taken & uploaded.

Yelp
It's a quiet residential street just a block long, not an entire neighborhood. It was very easy to find. When we turned the corner it was a bit of a let down. Do understand you are walking through people's front "yards". They have posted to be quiet and no picture taking. Over time the vivid house colors had faded some. Every resident has lined the building fronts with large potted trees and plants. Quaint. Checked off my list.

Yelp
I found Rue Crémieux on a travel blog whilst trying to unique places to do in Paris. It's a small, closed off street filled with colorful homes. Good spot to snap an insta if you can snag one without too many people in the background. We came here after the Aligre Market one morning, but if it's not on your route, not quite worth the trip. If you're expecting Burano, this is def not it, but still a cute little rue to stroll down if you're in the area!

Yelp
Tourist spot but so picturesque and worth a small stroll down the multi colored houses on an off beaten path. When you think of the charm of Paris you think of this. The street is quiet but easy to find. Beautifully colored houses. I would love to see it during sunset if the street lamps come on and maybe give a different hue to the colors. All in all it's a great little path to stroll down in the bastille hood of Paris after spending some time in Le Marais. Whip out your cameras and IG stories and go HAM!

Yelp
I agree with other reviews if you are not around the area don't make a special stop but it is a fun photo opportunity if you are in the area. My husband and I went to Atelier des Lumières art exhibit and decided to walk around. I don't remember it being too far from that

Yelp
Mmmm if you're not in the area, I wouldn't make a special trip to see it. We walked from HolyBelly (pleasant 40 minute walk that helped us digest our huge breakfast). The street is quaint for sure but a lot smaller and less vibrant in real life. Paris is so beautiful that there are unreal streets everywhere. Plus, one of the houses was undergoing construction when we went so an ugly van was blocking part of the street.
