19 Best Paris Walking Tours | Condé Nast Traveler

"Rue des Rosiers was the main street of the Jewish portion of Paris (known in Yiddish as "Pletzl"). While the Marais is no longer a Jewish neighborhood, traces of the original inhabitants remain on this pedestrian street, now filled with chic boutiques sitting alongside traditional bakeries. Young Parisians flock to the stores for shopping outings, while tourists often come for strudel and bagels at longtime establishments like Sacha Finkelsztajn." - Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

Yelp
As soon as the last bite of my falafel pita slid down my throat, I was filled with anguish and despair. I have never in my life wished that I could rewind time and re-eat something more than I had in that very moment. Even though I was stuffed, I seriously considered waiting in line for another 25 minutes and reordering another one of those beautiful creations. Sadly, I reminded myself that gluttony is a sin, and continued on my journey. I ordered the falafel special pita with everything on it. The chef was kind and prepared my falafel quickly. If you line up in the takeout window, you're not allowed to sit so keep that in mind! I had to eat my falafel while standing up outside the restaurant, but I didn't mind, it added to the experience. I have tasted many falafel pitas in many different cities, and this is one of the best I've ever had. Many restaurants that serve falafel pitas can't make one that isn't dry after the third bite, L'As du Fallafel does not have that problem. Every single bite was a head-nodding bite. The textures and flavors were perfect; tens across the board. I am so glad that I did not listen to the reviews stating that this place is overrated - it is not. Yes the line is very long and you might wait around 30 minutes before you get to order, but it is warranted. Stand in that line proudly and know that your mouth is about to go on a heavenly journey.

Yelp
Falafel in Paris? Definitely!! I know it sounds strange to go to Paris and eat falafel, but L'As du Falafel is one of our favorites. Found it years ago when my husband always wanted to eat falafel sandwiches when we travelled. This one tastes like you are on the Tayelet in Tel Aviv, not the Old Jewish Quarter in Le Marais. So nice to stroll in this trendy area with its cobblestone streets, historic synagogues and quirky boutiques and then grab a table for a falafel plate or pita. The falafel is so good. Just like the family restaurant that my husband's parents used to own. Crispy on the outside. Delicious and moist on the inside. Could have easily split the falafel plate. 10 falafel balls on a plate of hummus, tahini, green cabbage salad, purple cabbage salad, Israeli salad with fresh tomatoes and cucumbers and a tomato based dip. Pita included. So yummy!! My hubby had....a falafel pita sandwich and fries. Added a freshly squeezed carrot orange juice. So refreshing. Ask for a large complimentary glass bottle of tap water. Inside and outside dining available. In a rush to get back to the Olympics? Take your order to go. Love falafel? Add this to your list of restaurants in Paris. If you are like our family, you'll be back.

Yelp
The BEST falafel pita sandwich ever! Don't be scared off by the line, it moves quickly and is very worth it.

Zainab ..

Yelp
Delicious food and great customer service. It's a popular spot and there's line to get in.

Yelp
We stood before the threshold of the restaurant staring at the long line separating us from what might be one of our favorite food stops in the city... When all of a sudden the shop's owner stepped out, pointed to us and directed us inside. We did not ask questions but we did order too much food which was all magnificent and would have been worth the wait. The mint lemonade was also delicious. Why the falafel gods smiled and took mercy upon us, I will never know, but I'm grateful.

Yelp
I got the falafel plate and I'm not sure if it was the video playing on how they made it but it was soo good! It was hot and fresh and the table had all the condiments. There's rest room to use and the service is fast. They take card and I found the food fresh and filling packed with fiber! It's was so near Notre-Dame as well! Will be back if I make my way to Paris again! I also loved that they served tap water which was very American friendly and the story of the restaurant on the menu. I'm so use to western style of having fries come with everything. You need to buy it separate here

Yelp
Was shopping in the area and saw this place had tons of reviews, so we decided to stop by. The take out line looked pretty long, but they were able to seat us at a table inside right away. We ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich and a hummus plate with falafel. It was seriously one of the best meals that we had in Paris. Overall, the service was great and I would highly recommend for a quick, inexpensive meal. Wish there was one nearby so I could go all the time!

Yelp
I had this years ago when I came to Paris with my family and WOW did it live up to my memory. I can't believe I managed to polish off this massive sandwitch in one sitting. I will dream about this for ages.

Yelp
Second time here, first 12 years ago great, first time ever eating Falafel, back today still great!

Yelp
Best Falafel Ever! L'As du Fallafel is a must-visit in Paris! My friend and I stopped by for lunch around noon on a Wednesday. The takeout line was short and there was no wait for dine-in. We sat outside and the service was quick and efficient! We both ordered the Falafel pita sandwich and shared a side of fries. The falafel was incredible--so flavorful with a perfectly crunchy exterior. The tahini sauce, eggplant, and fresh veggies were also delicious, and the soft pita was unlike any I've ever had! Don't skip the homemade hot sauce--it's amazing! Their fries were also incredible! Golden and fried to perfection. Definitely order them as a side. TL;DR - I would 100% go out of my way to eat here again. The falafel, fries, and hot sauce are must-tries!

Yelp
I have not had Israeli food this good outside of Israel! I am so glad we made the trip and the effort to stand in line to eat at this wonderful restaurant. The food is delicious and fresh. Service is outstanding and the line moves quick even though it may seem long. The ambience is great and this is in a nice area of Paris. The falafel is amazing. The pitas are fresh, the hummus is outstanding. The shawarma is tender and delicious. I was so excited to have lemonata (lemonade with fresh mint) as I haven't had it outside of Israel. The produce used in the food is extremely fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back next time we are in Paris.

Yelp
This place was very popular on social media so it was on our list to check out! The wait wasn't the worst as they had a lot of tables. I think we only waited 10 minutes! I like how they have a video showing how they make the Fallafel. It was def fresh and hot! I would recommend!

Yelp
L'As du Fallafel earns a solid four stars from me. The delicious food, unique fries, and the potential for a fantastic dining experience make it a spot worth trying. Just be sure to plan accordingly and factor in the wait time. If you can navigate that hurdle, you're in for a treat. Wait Time: Be prepared to exercise your patience muscles because the wait at L'As du Fallafel is no joke and heads up; Parisian winters can be a bit chilly, so bring your layers. We laughed off the freezing temperatures, but it's worth considering if you're not a fan of cold weather. Menu Variety: I decided to go all out and sampled a few things- the falafel, shawarma, and, of course, the fries. The food met my expectations. I was happy to discover that they don't settle for commercially available fries. The extra effort was evident in the taste. Return Factor: Despite the lengthy wait, I'm inclined to give L'As du Fallafel another shot on my next visit to Paris. However, I'd have to check the wait time before committing. If it's a manageable wait, I'd gladly return; otherwise, I might explore nearby falafel options.

Yelp
L'As du Fallafel in Le Marais is legendary for a reason. There is always a long line here, so you can't miss it. I first went here ten years ago, and visited again, and it's still just as great. The falafel wrapped jn pita is a must here and it comes with a generous amount of falafel and toppings. Get the spicy sauce for an extra kick. We also tried the fries, and it was pretty tasty.

Charles G.

Yelp
Tried Schwarma and Falafel sandwiches...15e and 10e respectively. Cash only. Quick and simple ordering...no line when we arrived, but it was before noon in January. Perfectly good, generous sized middle eastern sandwiches. Not life changing, or even detour worthy. Maybe if I was in the neighborhood I'd return. Messy to eat...use a fork and try and sit down somewhere. Glad I went!
google avatar

Courtney F.

Yelp
If you visit only one spot in Le Marais, please let this be it! WOW! Hands down, best falafel I have ever had. This place really lives up to the hype! We waited in line for a bit to order (it moves quickly and is worth the wait, I promise) and got two wraps. They really loaded them up with sauce and toppings - we were so full for the rest of the day! Amazing service, fun atmosphere, and most of all, outstanding food. I wish we had L'As du Fallafel here in Boston so I could go all the time!
google avatar

Yelp
The falafel sandwich was good but not something I would go out of the way for again. They have 2 lines for eating in or to-go. The to-go line moves pretty quick. For 10 euro, I expected the falafel to be the best I'd ever had.
google avatar

Monica N.

Yelp
There's two separate lines: one for being seated inside and one for a takeaway. We opted for the takeaway line since it was shorter. The overall feel of the space is super casual. The service as quick! There was someone who took our order while we stood in line and then when we got to the counter, our orders were ready to go. We did get to choose our toppings . The food was good! It wasn't the best falafel I've ever had. The flavors were delicious together - the creamy and hot sauce. The falafel was a little dry but still was flavored well. I honestly don't think this place is worth the hype is claims to be.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Was recommended by my aunt to come here because of how good she said it was. There were two lines, one for take away and the other was to dine in. Both were equally long but the wait wasn't too bad. We decided to dine in and I ordered the falafel pita. I had really high expectations but unfortunately there wasn't anything about it that is worth mentioning. It was mediocre and nothing special. My boyfriend thought the same. There wasn't much flavor to it. There were sauces on the table which I used but it didn't do much. Honestly I don't understand what the hype is. To each their own.

Yelp
This place is good but not sure it lives up to the hype. The pita sandwiches are good but not the best I've had. My friend and I were staying at a hotel not too far from here, so for an easy dinner our first night in Paris, we decided to give L'As du Fallafel a try. Please note they have two lines: a takeout line on the left and a dine-in line on the right. We came by a little before 9:30 pm on a Thursday evening and there was a short wait of a few minutes to get seated. The restaurant is pretty large with plenty of seating, so even with long lines during the day I assume it moves pretty quickly. Half of the menu is in French and the other half is in English, which made it easy to order. We shared a half sweet potato appetizer ($8) and got our own pita sandwich. My friend got their famous fallafel pita for $12, and I got the schawarma pita with turkey and lamb for $16. The sweet potato appetizer was really good. Probably the biggest half sweet potato I've ever seen! And it was roasted perfectly. The schawarma pita was solid but not mindblowingly good as I would've expected. My friend thought the same for his fallafel pita. First of all, it's messy to eat! I recommend dining in if you're planning to get a pita sandwich, and if you're planning to do takeout, eat it at home (or your hotel). I was making a mess while eating, and that was with the help of a fork. Portions are huge and we were struggling to finish the last couple bites. I didn't like how the yogurt sauce, which was delicious, was only added to the top of the pita sandwich. After I was halfway into the pita sandwich, there was no more sauce in the middle and I was sad. For the schawarma, I personally found the meat a bit on the dry side and bland. I had to add a little bit of salt to make it flavorful enough for my taste buds. I tried a bite of my friend's fallafel pita, and while I think the fallafel was really good, I don't think it's the best fallafel I've ever had. Service was quick and someone's usually keeping an eye on your area to make sure everyone's good.
google avatar

Mikey J.

Yelp
We came back here four years later and unfortunately the food wasn't as delicious as we remembered! Same fast service and this time we dined in (versus taking to go). The meat wasn't as juicy as I remembered and the falafel was also good but not as fantastic we remembered. Not sure if something changed, but it didn't feel the same to us.

Yelp
We had an amazing lunch here. There was a line to get in but we had a group of seven and so when they had a bigger table open up, they actually let us in quickly. The food was absolutely spectacular. We had the Chopped liver and Israeli plate appetizers. The chopped liver was some of the best I've ever had. The Israeli plate is a bunch of falafel with delicious hummus, and some red tapenade. It was absolutely delicious. The only note of caution I would give you is that the Israeli plate is a lot of falafel and if you get the falafel sandwich which is also delicious, it will be a lot of falafel on top of a lot of falafel. So you might want to consider getting the sandwich or falafel platter and not getting the Israeli appetizer. The kids had the kids chicken sausages with fries, which were very good and came with a really delicious cucumber and tomato salad. The falafel sandwiches were stellar, they reminded me of ones I had in Israel, and were absolutely delicious. This place is worth the wait, and I would come back in a heartbeat!

Yelp
I first tried L'As du Fallafel back in 2019 on my first trip to Paris. I ordered the falafel sandwich and fries. It was one of the most memorable food things I ate while there. It was so memorable that when I planned my next trip to Europe, I had to make sure to add Paris to my itinerary, just for this falafel. This place did not disappoint. The falafel is so fresh and flavorful, and the bread is so soft and warm. The sauces they add accompanied with the fresh crunchy veggies are so good. Every bite is perfect... I like to add the harissa sauce they have at the table to my sandwich and kick it up a notch. The fries are fresh and crispy! I add the harissa sauce to those, too. They also make a mint lemonade, which is too good to pass up. We had a chance to try the meatball shakshuka, and it was delicious as well. The service is friendly and they speak English too! This is not fine dining, but the inside of the restaurant is casual and comfortable. You really are doing yourself a disservice if you don't try this place while you are in Paris.
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
Incredible sandwich, with the eggplant, pita, and hot sauce actually being the best parts rather than the falafel instead. A staple of all of our Paris trips.
google avatar

Chloe S.

Yelp
This spot definitely served up a large portion! The falafels are distributed evenly throughout the whole wrap which makes for a great bite each time. There are two lines you can join, the takeway line which moves relatively fast and the dine in. Our party decided to takeout and enjoy our food nearby. We ordered with a server who walked down the line taking orders then handed our ticket to the guys in the window. This dish comes packed with veggies, it was surprisingly a large portion. While the red sauce may look intimidating it wasn't spicy it was more of a sweeter sauce along with the white creamy sauce the spice level shouldn't be of worry. We did find the falafels not to be as crispy but at 9 euros this meal is worth the wait in line!

Yelp
Lamb Schawarma with extra white sauce very good!!! Also had a beef pitta that was great!! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for fresh and flavorful delight!
google avatar

Kristen S.

Yelp
Delicious fallafel and pitas! Not something we have tried before but really enjoyed it. The Israeli beer was a great pairing. Very fair prices and good service. Definitely worth a try, it's larger inside than it appears from the street.

Yelp
Surpasses the Lenny Kravitz Hype!!! was our one hour trek inhaling mostly gastronomic aromas ( when is someone going to develop boulangeri/espresso scent?) along gorgeous Parisian pavements in 90 degree temp worth it, oui oui oui!!!! Fresh crisply fried french fries, and herby crunchy exceptionally moreish falafel, were, I'm afraid polished off ( by me mostly) before I had a chance to take a photo) I'll let the photos of our meal tell the tale
google avatar

Shilpa Y.

Yelp
If you like falafel sandwiches, this is a solid choice. If you don't like falafel sandwiches, this will not turn you into a believer. The line moves fast and I suppose one could call it an an on-the-go option, although I struggled to eat it standing up.
google avatar

Scott R. D.

Yelp
Lines. Lines. Lines. Is it worth it? Yes. This falafel sandwich is big and tasty and only 9€. I got take out as I'm staying very close by. The man taking my order missed my frites, but then didn't charge me. The sandwich is so big I didn't miss them.

Bashar K.

Yelp
Yes it is worth the wait! That's the short answer for your question! Delicious, satisfying, and authentic as F!
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Ordered a delivery with this place after hearing that this was the BEST falafel in Paris. I'll first say that when I ordered I specially asked for utensils/napkins and not a SINGLE one was in the bag. I wasn't able to eat it until after. The quality of food was pretty good & fresh, and portions were good. This falafel platter was basically a deconstructed version of 2 of the sandwichs Pretty good, but I'm not sure if I'd wait in a long line for this.
google avatar

Yelp
I always have random places bookmarked in the event I ever visit that city, I can just pull it out of my back pocket. L'As du Fallafel was one of them. I've had this place on my radar for years (I don't even know from where) and now that I was finally visiting Paris, I was able to give this place a try. We got there at around 5:30 on a Sunday. There's one line for takeaway and one for dine in. We decided to do takeaway. Don't let the line intimidate you. It's worth the wait and we only ended up waiting about 15 minutes. These guys have their ducks in a row. One person goes down the line taking orders/collecting payments. Then when you get up to the window, you give them your ticket and they make your order fresh. We ordered the Fallafel special sandwich to share, since we were still planning on having dinner later. This might be the best falafel I've ever had. It's freshly fried, so it comes out hot and crispy. I believe 6 falafels come in a sandwich. It also comes with all the fix-ins: lettuce, tomato, eggplant, some kind of red cabbage slaw that really balances out the whole sandwich, hummus, and garlic sauce. It's pretty messy to eat but it's so good. My only piece of feedback would be for them to layer the sauce/hummus. It just sits on top so when you get towards the middle/bottom, you don't get any of those flavors anymore. I wish we got to try the shawarma. I guess this warrants a return trip to Paris!
google avatar

Vivian F.

Yelp
The hype is real: 5/5, highly recommend. The takeout line was ~30 people deep when I arrived. It took 10-15 minutes--not bad on a Sunday afternoon in late-May. The falafel special (the thing you're "supposed to get") was Big! Messy! Worthwhile! As a petite human, I ate half and saved half to repurpose into a falafel salad. Both were excellent. Day-of was clearly the winner, but even after a cooling off period, the falafel retained its crunch and flavor.
google avatar

Ellen G.

Yelp
Pretty good falafel, line was really short when we got there. Don't think I would wait longer than a couple of minutes for it. Not worthy of all the hype
google avatar

Gerry S.

Yelp
You will always find a long line leading up to this family-owned Middle Eastern restaurant. Located in the Jewish district of Paris (known as the Marais) on the busy street of rue des Rosiers. Be sure to have your order ready as they charge you and take it on the line. You only collect your food at the window.
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
I accidentally stumbled upon this while in Paris in early September and had no idea it was such a well known spot! We got lucky and came early in the evening so there was no line and we were seated right away. Hands down the best schwarma pita of my life! This was my favorite meal in Paris and I went back a second time and ordered at the takeout window. There was a line but the whole operation runs smoothly so the food came out quick. The restaurant for dining is nothing special. The food is the star!
google avatar

Samira S.

Yelp
This hole in the wall is a must go to for delicious felafel and a local vibe of its own. I recommend this place to others.
google avatar

Shonel G.

Yelp
I love this place! I never really paid attention till now that this place is very vegan friendly. Hands down the best falafel in Paris can be had here. There are many imitators but they just are missing that special something this place has. If there is a line rest assured that it is worth the wait. The ingredients are very fresh, the presentation is great and the taste is what will keep you coming back! I always get the falafel and I'm always happy.
google avatar

Ben F.

Yelp
Good food. Lines. It may or may not be worth it. I used to go here many years ago before it was quite so popular. It became popular for some very good reasons including the good food. Are the lines worth it...maybe.
google avatar

Shoa J.

Yelp
Fallafels were good but the chicken was not good at all. I felt horrible wasting all that food. What bothered me the most was that they asked for tip, which shows how touristy the place is.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
I knew we had to make a stop here because I've heard through the grapevine that this place is THE BEST falafel place in Paris. Not to toot my own horn here but I've been to Israel twice so my tastebuds have already become acquainted with really fantastic falafel pitas. Expectations were high. After eating here, I will admit that this place is worth the hype. We were trying to cram in as much food as possible in a short period so we decided to share one falafel pita. The man taking my order convinced me to get their freshly cooked, homemade fries. Time was of the essence so our order was take away. After photos were snapped, we proceeded to absolutely destroy the food. The pita was soft and warm, the fillings (cabbage and cucumber) were plentiful. The falafel itself was some of the best falafel I can remember caressing my GI tube. The outside is so crunchy you can make an ASMR album and the inside is soft with delicious flavor. They doused the living shit out of it with tahini sauce which provided that much needed creaminess. The fries were piping hot like we had to harness every drop of willpower not to burn the shit out of our mouth with them. They were SO crispy but my American ass was missing a lil bit of salt on those bad boys. This meal was orgasmic and you would be doing yourself a disservice by skipping this place.

Yelp
Located in Le Marais, this is a great, if very well-known, place to get falafels at a reasonable price. I came here for dinner for the first time with a friend on a Sunday evening in late October 2022, but I had previously passed by several times before and always wanted to try it out. We arrived around 6:45 PM and there was a long-ish line outside. An employee was going through to determine who was dining in, who was doing takeaway, and gave us a slip of paper and an ETA. We wound up waiting maybe 15 minutes for a table, and were seated pretty quickly give how long the line was. My friend and I shared 2 appetizers, the grilled eggplant with tahini & pomegranate seeds, and the falafels. The eggplant was silky smooth and the falafels were small and therefore nice and crispier than the bigger falafels I'm used to elsewhere. Next, we each ordered a schawarma sandwich as our main. The sandwich was great comfort food, with generous portions of meat and garnishes. Everything was fresh and delicious. The restaurant was very lively as it was quite busy with locals and tourists alike. The ambiance is casual, nothing too comfortable or cute but the service is efficient and friendly, and the food is good. I would definitely come back here next time I'm craving falafels or schawarma!

Yelp
Never thought to eat a falafel pita wrap in France, but would definitely recommend this place!!! There was a long line of people on the street waiting for these falafels! I would say there were around 30+ people in front of me and the wait took a little over 20 minutes. This was sooooo good!!! The falafels were crispy on the outside, warm on the inside, and packed with flavor! There were also pieces of grilled eggplant in the pita wrap. It was so fun to eat because there were so many toppings and the pita bread itself was so soft and warm! The sauces included in the wrap really took this pita wrap to the next level! I think one sauce (the red one in the picture) was some kind of hot sauce and the other sauce might have been tzatziki or tahini - either way, it was delicious! Super friendly service as well. :) Downside: no seating inside/outside. My friend and I ate just ate standing outside along the wall with an audience of pigeons.
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
Top rated for a reason. Stick with the classics. Fallafel and Shwarma are really good. They take orders of people wanting in long lines. Giving four stars because it's kind of a hassle and the fries are so-so. Pita is really good. Not sure it's a special trip but if you're near the neighborhood for lunch it's worth checking out
google avatar

Yelp
I do not understand how this place is so delicious. We keep coming back for more. I've had falafel's all over the world but these are the best I've ever had! The staff is always accommodating and friendly. Food service is very fast and the food is wonderful. I'm so happy we discovered this place. Every friend that visits us we bring here so that they can enjoy as well.

Yelp
My husband was looking forward very much to go to L'as du Fallafel, we were not disappointed! The food was great, and the young men who work there are absolutely charming! Can

Yelp
Amazing and affordable. It was very quick service . Fallafel was really good . And it is a must go attraction in le Marais

Yelp
Dropped by L'As du for a quick early dinner. I fully understand why this is one of the more popular restaurants in Paris -quick service and friendly waiter -ambience was bright but clean -TVs on (world cup going on) -got 2 plates - fallafel and schwarma (they include turkey, which ive never seen, I usually just see Lamb); especially tasty was the fallafels; as good as i've ever had including NYC mainstay Moumon's -lots of additional goodies on the plate including hummus, tehina, salad, eggplant -convenient location near shopping and metro -note the pricing for "to go" was cheaper than dine in -generally pricing seemed fair
