America's Next Great Wine Region Is in Arizona

"At Rune Wines I experienced an off-grid tasting under a canopy in the vineyards with stunning mountain views and a true commitment to place—from solar-powered operations to wines that reflect Arizona’s terroir; their balanced Viognier pairs beautifully with a housemade muffuletta, and their Graciano stands out as a deeply hued, dark-fruited varietal well suited to the region." - Lucy Simon

Unique wines, tastings are $13 for one rose, two whites(one we've never tasted before) and three reds. Vineyard on site with solar power but they get most of the grapes from Wilcox.

Love love love this place! I have been here twice and each time I fall in love again!! Staff is super sweet and knowledgeable! They have great food and wine. I have gotten the charcuterie board twice. Once to share with 3 people and another time with just 2 and it is enough food for sure! We got dessert this last time and it was so yummy!! I think the price point is average of what I have seen with wine tasting! 25 for board and 14 for dessert! The views are beautiful and they have a nice bathroom! We brought our 6 month year old as we had no baby sitter and just wanted a glass of wine and relax in the sun! Super family friendly and nice and quiet. My son really enjoyed looking out at the views. It was such a beautiful venue!

Google
I loved it here! When we arrived, they were serving the tastings outdoors. Which was perfect because the weather was amazing. We tried some wine, purchased a bottle and walked to a section on top of a hill, and relaxed. We had the most amazing view of the sunset. It was magical. The staff was also great, everyone was really nice. And of course their wine was delicious!

Google
1.16.2026...what a great place. They have great wine and wonderful atmosphere. Don't miss this place. This is a great place. From the outside on a gray rainy day.... Very deceptive. Inside... Great company...just one of the best set of wines we have had on a long time. If we were in the area we would go often. Service was wonderful and the women running the show was by herself and did a bang up job. Knew about gluten and had gluten free crackers for me that were tasty. We tried 5 wines and it was hard to decide what to get. They were so good. So we did bring a few home with us. Thanks so much for making our time with you a memorable experience. We drove a long way and would do it again! Love that you serve birrata! Everything was perfect except the weather. ;)

Google
Wonderful experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and the space is open. The inside has a wine bar and a seating area with seats lining the walls. There are several outdoor seating areas that are covered with a canopy for shade. Tables are at each area. Charcuterie board was better than expected with a wide variety of flavors from cheeses, cured meats, pickles, sweet onions, peppers, nuts, and more. Service was excellent. Bar tender was very kind, quick and professional. Wine tasting starts at $15. I highly recommend this place if you like wine, a good charcuterie board, or want to experience a nice atmosphere.

Google
Stopped by on a windy Saturday afternoon. We had our silver lab with us, so we were so happy it was dog friendly and found a beautiful area outside that was private and shaded overlooking the vineyard and mountains. Great view! Very nice and informative staff. $13 for a tasting of 5 unique wines, a rose', a white and 3 reds. One red stood out, and we bought a bottle of the Graciano to take home. They did have some food choices, which was nice to know. Very peaceful, relaxing stop.

Google
I enjoyed the tasting selection and was interested in the different grapes used. I'm from the Western NY area and familiar with cold weather grapes and wines. Runes had live music and was serving outside as well. A very pleasant, relaxing spot to enjoy some wine, a snack and a hike.

Steve G.

Google
First time there. I loved their mead, and my friends were huge fans of all the wines in their tasting. We learned they were doing a campfire evening, so we returned to watch the sunset while enjoying their delicious drinks next to a campfire. It was spectacular!
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
Besides the wine and beautiful atmosphere, I always go for a nice hike or walk around the property. There's nice little paths, grab a glass of wine and take a walk around
google avatar

Yelp
First time here! Loved it - great prices! I wanted to try the snacks but didn't this time. Super fun photo opportunity- plenty of sitting areas! Lots of land and steps for people to use. Staff were nice and knowledgeable! Totally worth the drive! Out of all the wines there was only one I didn't like - a bit soapy . The rest were yummy!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic place for wine tasting, great wines to sample, nice snacks. Worth visiting if you're in the area.
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
We did not get any food here but the menu looked great. I'm obsessed with the building for the tasting room. Very Dutch. Lots of seating outside with great views. We got a bottle of cider which was sweet and delicious. Highly recommend. It was a very busy day but we were able to get service quickly. One of my top favorites
google avatar

Garret F.

Yelp
Like the shareable food options. It was a very busy day with great weather- sunny and cool. About our third time here in the last several months. Previously enjoyed the evening fire pits. Greciano was the flavor of the day...cheers!

Yelp
This is such an awesome winery. The outdoor and indoor tasting room is beautiful with great views. They have wonderful cheeseboards to go along with the wine probably the best that I have had at any winery. Customer service from the tasting room staff was top notch and wines were amazing.
google avatar

Kate F.

Yelp
Rune wines has lots of different options for outdoor seating and they are further apart so you don't feel like you are right on top of other guests. It was a great spot to watch the sunset. Their wine is decent as well.
google avatar

Ohia H.

Yelp
Love this place! The wine is delicious and the views are worth the drive. Watching the sunset while snacking on a Mezze Platter with my bff while sipping the delicious Rune Rose' is one of my favorite things to do...
google avatar

Rebecca I.

Yelp
Beautiful views, great wine, and a quiet and tranquil ambiance! I want to go back in the fall when it's not as hot and do hiking trail with a glass of wine!

Richard W.

Yelp
What a pleasant place to come for a glass of wine and sunset! We were lucky enough to be here on the night of a full moon, which rose from the mountains off to the east. Just as it cleared the mountains, it appeared to be the biggest moon we had ever seen. The perspective is amazing. Ian served us wine, made great recommendations and made wonderful bruschetta with homemade pesto sauce. He clearly loves his job and was a joy to visit with. Everything was so fresh and delicious. There are also about 2 miles of nicely manicured, decomposed granite trails winding through the foothills to various seating areas on the property. Really a pleasant, off grid, spot to visit.

Jessica O.

Yelp
I loved this winery! Scenic views, exploring along the vineyards and having chairs at their pit stops was what made it intimate . They had blankets for our comfort. I really liked their wine and charcuterie board. This lovely family who owns it had the best costumer service. I will def come back to this place ! Great for kids and adults to explore.
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
Off-grid winery in Sonoita and a perfect day trip from Tucson. They have a nice selection of wines on the 5-wine tasting menu starting from white to red. The tasting costs $5 more for using their souvenir glass or you can save a bit by bringing a glass. They have a limited food menu, but I would recommend trying the charcuterie board. Both indoor/outdoor seating with nice sunset views.
google avatar

Christine A.

Yelp
What a neat vineyard. The seating arrangement lends to nice private areas all with excellent views of the desert. We enjoyed all the wines with the grenache being our favorite of the day. The charcuterie board was amazing! We wolfed it down. We visited 5 vineyards on this date and Rune was by far our favorite. I was pleasantly pleased with the high quality, balanced, dry wines.
google avatar

RO B.

Yelp
Great views and wine. When I go wine tasting, we love learning about the area and wines etc. none of this was discussed. Staff was disengaged and chatted with each other. The white wines were great - we bought 2.
google avatar

Lindsay D.

Yelp
Wines are decent. Easy drinking, prob the best way the wild Syrah. Prices are expensive compared to other wine regions like Sonoma, napa, Osoyoos, etc. They have a decent mezze platter and are generous with the hummus. Cute boho/California vibe and outdoor drating with fire pits. Service is friendly enough, but short. They just pour the wine and don't bother to say anything about it so it's think the tasting experience could be better. Also they don't check in to see if you want to order anything to eat.

Yelp
Rune Wines offers a world-class winery experience in Southern Arizona. The view from the tasting room, the walking trails leading from one picturesque spot to another, and the outstanding charcuterie options make Rune a not-to-be-missed tasting experience. Dog lovers may be especially charmed by the folks and their furry friends who gather outside to enjoy snacks and wine with a view. Our favorite wines were the Grenache and the Rose. Friendly staff and a decidedly modern tasting room make for a lively afternoon whatever the weather.
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
Beautiful views. Great wine. Possibly the best Tuna sandwich in the area. I was pleasantly surprised.
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Great location, remote, plenty of outdoor seating and limited indoor seating. Friendly service and a decent price for a tasting without a glass (more if you want to keep theirs). Reminiscent of Deep Sky also in the area (same winemaker I think?). Loved the mezze plate for snackin' while we tried their flights. A fun stop along the Elgin wine trail!
google avatar

Yelp
One word about Rune: views. This was 1 out of 5 places we went to for a self directed wine tasting tour over the weekend. I decided to get a full pour from here instead of doing a tasting. Very beautiful place, such a calm vibe, and good wine. So peaceful. Pros: - the views! Beautiful nature in every direction. - very cool outdoor seating areas. - we had already eaten just prior to coming but it smelled great and they had what looked like some nice snacks and charcuterie boards. - tasty Viognier. I drink white wine more than reds lately, this one was crisp and slightly sweet. Cons: - we came here towards the end of our day and I did not feel like doing a full tasting so I didn't try more things. That's a con against myself lol. Next time I'll prioritize coming here more at the beginning of the day because it's a beautiful location and I'd love to try more of their wines.

Yelp
Amazing customer service and great wines. And the atmosphere and grounds are amazing. So many great places to sit and unwind with friends and family.

Tammy E.

Yelp
Great service, nice selection of wines! Nice outdoor area to sit or take a walk. Fire pits for when it gets cold or canopies for when it is warmer.

Isabella Victoria N.

Yelp
Beautiful! Food is wonderful ambience is incredible and the staff is fantastic! If I'm in the area, I'll stop in all the time
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Great locale. Sketchy pricing scheme. Did t get the full story at check-in. According to host Megan, buy 6 bottles and tasting fee Is waived. This is not listed anywhere. Just buy a bottle to drink. Enjoy!
google avatar

Vicky B.

Yelp
Wonderful wines, great staff, and stunning views. Rune was different than the other wineries we visited, in a good way! They are "the only solar powered and off-grid tasting room and vineyard in Arizona". We came for a tasting since we were staying at their Airbnb and wanted to introduce ourself. We enjoyed the tasting outside surrounded by breathtaking views, however they do have an indoor tasting room as well. Although we weren't hungry, I heard someone order a small charcuterie plate. There's shade outside and they invite you to move chairs into the shade if you'd like. Rune is a must visit!
google avatar

Riana K.

Yelp
We stopped here to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. I called ahead to let them know we had a large group and they said to just come in. No reservations were needed for that time of year. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and the staff helped us set up a few chairs together outside for our group. We ordered a few bottles to taste and took in the great wine and scenery! We really wished we had more time to spend there as the weather was amazing with some monsoon storms on the horizon. We will definitely come back sometime with more time! Thanks for making this day special!
google avatar

Yelp
We LOVE this winery. I can't not stop here when we come to Sonoita. The scenery is so beautiful and they have lots of outdoor seating and tables to enjoy food and wine. Their charcuterie boards are amazing. This place is one of my top destination recommendations for anyone making the trip out to Sonoita.

Katie L.

Yelp
Amazing wine, food, and views. Reasonable pricing and friendly staff. A must visit on your sonoita trip. Also dog friendly!
google avatar

Greg O.

Yelp
Good wines and great views. Friendly staff. We even got to talk to the owner for a while.

Yelp
I loved my visit to Rune Wines when I was passing through Sonoita. This winery is very unique. The gift shop and lobby area are inside of a Quonset hut that looks like something out of WWII. An airstream is parked next to the structure. The tasting area is under a canopy surrounded by beautiful desert landscape. This winery opened in 2015. I first sampled their wine at a food and wine pairing a few years back. If you have ever seen a bottle of wine from Rune, they have very unique labels. The artwork on each bottle is designed by an artist and is unique to each vintage. Each label tells a story. Even though I was here over the summer on a hot day, I enjoyed having my tasting outdoors. I'm an AZ native and have a deep appreciation for the desert. They have plenty of seating with fire pits. The views are just incredible. The lady who poured my wine was very friendly and knowledgable. Their flagship wine Wild Syrah was probably my favorite pour. Sonoita is a great spot to wine taste here in AZ and Rune if definitely high on my list as one of my favorite wineries in the state. Take a relaxing day off and make the less than 3 hour drive from the Valley and check this gem out.
google avatar

Alvin B.

Yelp
What a winning combination of wine, food, and scenery. And the facility is off the grid using solar to fuel the operation. Well worth the trip from Tucson.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Southern AZ GEM. Must stop here ASAP. Okay now that I have your attention, let me tell you about the greatest low key winery. You will be at peace here. We went around 5pm and watched the beautiful sunset with a glass of wine. Doesn't seem like much when you first pull up but once you walk around the side of the building you will see a beautiful view paired with various shaded seating. I can't wait to go back in December. I had the Rosé which was amazing. They also have seating around fire pits which makes it more enticing to return in December. Please visit this winery. Add it to your list.
google avatar

Nilanj D.

Yelp
We popped past here during a thick snowstorm in Sonoita not at all expecting it to be open and we were soooo happy they were. Rune Wines was a revelation! We've visited several wineries in southern Arizona and Rune's are solid. We were the only fools to venture to Rune that day in all that snow and had an amazing experience. We tried everything they had to offer and really enjoyed their Grenache, Counoise, and Barbera. But everything we tried was so good we left with nearly 8 bottles. The tasting room is cute and if the weather is nice there's plenty of outdoor space to enjoy your wines. The place is also dog-friendly and our pooch very much enjoyed his stay! Moreover, it's super cool they are fully-powered by solar. A place that gets as much sun as southern Arizona should be falling over itself to get free solar power instead of paying oil, gas, and coal companies to turn on the lights. Kudos to Rune for making that bold choice!
google avatar

Isabella J.

Yelp
Rune Wines is one of my favorites. The views are spectacular and the wine is good. Weather allowing, they primarily taste outside under a shade canopy. The outdoor experience is what it's all about. You can take in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and high desert grasslands. For wine, Rosé, a white wine, and several reds are usually on rotation. They also offer a variety of sandwiches, small bites, and charcuterie boards. You're also welcomed to bring your own snacks!
google avatar

Kary A.

Yelp
Very cute little winery. We came to visit my in laws in Tucson and wanted to go out to their closest wine country area. It is very laid back winery you can get a flight, glass or a bottle of wine. They have chairs in different areas outside and you can sit anywhere. We ended up doing a tasting the wines were good. The white and rose was very refreshing and the red was not super full body but still had a good flavor. Prices are very reasonable and you can even take the glass you with their logo for only $5 more. We also got some stickers their logo is very unique. When in the area I would not mind coming back.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Napa or Temecula this is not, but... given that it's barely an hour from Tucson and it's so uncrowded, it was a treat! The wine flights anywhere in Sonoita or Patagonia will cost you, roughly $15-$18-ish without the souvenir glass or $24-$30-ish with a glass. What was cool about Rune were the seating areas -- beautiful, unobstructed views of the desert fields and distant mountains with huge, black shade sails and comfortable chairs beneath them to chill, sip/savor, and converse. The wines themselves ranged from ok to good, but nothing we felt was worth the $20-40/bottle price. Nonetheless with a half-dozen other wineries within 30 minutes of each other, we would definitely recommend this as an easy, romantic, one-day road trip.

Andrew I.

Yelp
Rune wines is one of the best wineries I have visited in Arizona. Not only are the wines fantastic, but the food, service, and views are phenomenal! A true treat and relaxing retreat if you are in southern Arizona.
google avatar

Mandy T.

Yelp
I came here on March 26th with a large group of women. We had planned this a few months ahead and had called Rune who said they would love to have us and there would be no problem accommodating us. Unfortunately, we were not treated well. The women serving us wine outside did not seem happy we were there at all. They tried to convince us not to do tastings and just to order bottles of wine so we could then serve ourselves and do our own tastings.
google avatar

Zachary P.

Yelp
Stopped here on our wine tour, and it was one of our favorite spots. We never ended up even going inside, they had such a beautiful outdoor area with comfortable tables and chairs, as well as serving food and flights. We enjoyed all of the wines we tried. We also ended up ordering a slice of pie as I had never seen this option before, apple rhubarb pie, and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. I could have sat outside here all day and would have enjoyed it. Definitely a spot I would highly recommend.
google avatar

Van D.

Yelp
Rune is a sleek little winery that has the perfect vibe -- minimalistic but sophisticated, with crafted detail at every turn. From shade sails and stone-ringed fire pits to natural DG walk paths, the spaces have an organic fit to the surroundings, and we enjoyed being able to do our hosted tasting outdoors. We were also impressed with the menu -- house-made hummus, burrata, fresh sandwiches, etc. It's clear that the team has put careful thought into this place, right down to the edgy narrative art on the wine labels. Hope autumn brings even more options, such as live music, hosted meals, picnics, and trail walks.
google avatar

Mel A.

Yelp
Thanks to Ian, it was such a great day trip. We are originally from San Francisco and are so close to many legendary (and oftentimes overrated) wine spots, however we immediately fell in love with the great architecture and uniquely Arizona touches this winery has to offer.
google avatar

Charles W.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I am no wine authority but I do know what's good; their wine is incredible. Great place to visit and the camp fire is a welcomed touch when it's a bit cold and blustery. Definitely visit if you're driving around!
google avatar

Hayley A.

Yelp
This winery has great red and white time options and gorgeous views. Mostly outdoor seating but plenty of space to enjoy your wine.
google avatar

Sandi N.

Yelp
This winery was one of our first stops for tastings and we were very impressed. Nice covered outdoor tasting area with ample seats and beautiful sprawling view. Friendly and knowledgeable pourers and very good wine. (We bought 2 bottles to bring home). Tasting prices were reasonable with an optional glass purchase. Only real negative, a small parking lot that fills up quickly on a weekend.
google avatar

Leah L.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful grounds. This place was very classy and the wine was tasty. Service was just okay but everything else made up for it. Would go there again for the ambiance alone.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Heavenly spot! We had the nicest afternoon here tasting (and buying) delicious wines! The sandwiches were FIRE! Also dogs welcome!
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
A wine tasting - with a good friend - which included a good rosé and multiple tasty reds, some great views of the surrounding area and a great staff made for an enjoyable afternoon. I brought home a 2018 Graciano which I'm looking forward to opening in the very near future. I highly recommend a visit if you're in the Sonoita/Elgin area.
google avatar

Gabriel S.

Yelp
Outdoor Campsite feel overlooking rolling hills of wild green grass. The wine selection red, white, and a blueberry. The white dessert wine was the best. The aroma was sweet as well as the taste. Stop in have a glass and drive to the next stop.

Robin C.

Yelp
Awesome setting and welcoming staff. Solid wine for the tasting!! Cute swag and great atmosphere.

NA N.

Yelp
I am inclined to highly recommend Rune for the quality of the wine making, hospitality, events and a unique property. This is a MUST visit - sign up for the wine club and join this great experience.
