Although the Pagoda is currently under construction until March of 2026, the surrounding grounds are beautiful. Rurikoji Temple is one of Yamaguchi’s most stunning and historically significant sites. Its five-story pagoda, built in 1442, is considered one of Japan’s most beautiful, rivaling those in Kyoto and Nara. Set within Kozan Park, the temple grounds are peaceful and well-maintained, offering a serene atmosphere perfect for reflection and photography. With the cherry blossoms blooming, it makes for great pictures.
Unlike more crowded temples in major cities, Rurikoji offers a quieter and more intimate experience, making it a must-visit for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a peaceful escape. If you’re in Yamaguchi, this temple is definitely worth a stop.
