The Russian Chapel at Vršič pass survived the turmoils of World War I and still stands in its full beauty. It was built in 1916 by Russian POWs in their prison camp as a memorial to the prisoners who died there.
The place is easily accessible except in winter if the road is closed due to snow. If going uphill, the car can be parked at a small parking lot with public toilet on the right and stairs to the Chapel go from the left side of the road.
The place is quiet, gives a peaceful feeling, there is a small stream next to the chapel and a memorial tomb. Some remains of the prison camp can still be recognized.
There is also an info panel with the story and directions how to virtually visit this place using an app but the app doesn't work on my phone.
An interesting historical and cultural site.
