8 Best Seafood Restaurants in Savannah

"Offering everything you need from seafood lunch and nothing more, Russo's menu is divided into categories like plates, sandwiches, and soups. The catch of the day, often grouper or flounder, comes baked or fried—expertly rendered by the kitchen’s lone cook. There are also fish or shrimp tacos, shrimp salad (on lettuce or in sandwich form), grouper soup, and deviled crab. You can also pick up a piece of fish at the market next door and have it cooked to order here at the restaurant." - Sam Worley

Google
Russo’s is fresh seafood, clean establishment with no bad smell. Groupers, Red snappers, bay scallops and the stuff crab shells are all quality. Plenty of fish heads for Jamaican style fish tea. May God continue to bless this place of business.

Eric Martin

Google
Love their oyster plates! Very raw and fresh, only complaint is I wish there was more sauce.

D Wilson

Google
Some of the fresh seafood and Savannah some of everything you need from the sea, they may even have whale pictures there

Rodonna Robinson

Google
Had a waiter tell us this is where he goes to get fresh seafood. Very nice clean place, free ice to pack your cooler, very helpful, and had a pretty nice selection. Didnt have to pay to park which was good.

Amanda Walters

Google
I was charged a $4 card fee when I paid in cash. Way overpriced and my cooked crawfish had sand all over them and ruined my whole low country boil. Worst $130 I've ever spent.

Google
Great atmosphere. Lovely decor. Pictures of fish caught are hung everywhere. There were buckets of clams, oysters, and crabs as around the restaurant. The curtains are fish nets which is an amazing, festive idea. The place was amazing and smelled like fresh and freshly made seafood. The food itself was perfectly seasoned and the hush puppies were everything you would ever want them to be. It perfectly fits its price point and is a place I would definelty think of going back to.

Google
Great selection of fresh seafood here. I was very happy to find Canadian Halibut here as well as a good price on gulf shrimp. The atmosphere is very retro and what you may expect from a fish market: concrete floors, fish trophies and fishing memorabilia on the walls. The staff are friendly and willing to help any way they can.

Google
Fresh fish, sweet sea scallops, and try the crab stew. Go visit Ms. Charlesetta at the Restaurant (open 11:30-2:30 Tuesday through Saturday) and she'll cook you up some great fish and hush puppies.

Yelp
Great place. Owner was kind. Staff was friendly. Purchased a beautiful fish, some hush puppies, shrimp, scallop and sauces. Best place for fresh fish that I have visited so far in Savannah.

Bob W.

Yelp
BEST seafood market in the area. Wonderful fresh large offerings of LOCAL seafood. Large area with ability to see all what they have in stock. Bright large store-easy parking. The fish you want is here if not ask. Shrimp, clams, oysters! The staff is great & helpful. Give it a try--it will be your seafood store. Be aware it is not cheap. You want the best you pay a little bit more but it is so GOOD:)!

Karolyn R.

Yelp
A "real" fish market but prices seemed shockingly high and labels for fish omit information- I didn't know the filet i purchased had skin on bottom. Good parking (has its on lot) NOTE- they no longer offer lunch

Laura M.

Yelp
Came in last week for a few things and was treated horribly. Man behind the counter was rude at best. Ended up walking out after tolerating his nasty attitude, unwillingness to help, and mumbling under his breath at me. Not everyone knows the process of how to order so a little grace would be nice! Won't be back.

Jamie B.

Yelp
Fresh shrimp of great quality and the customer service is excellent. They peel and devein for a small fee, which is a major plus for me.

Yelp
Very good albeit simple Southern seafood, and very fresh, given that the restaurant is owned by Savannah's most-respected seafood market (which is right next door). In the homey, nautical-themed restaurant they serve up mostly fried seafood--fish, shrimp, and I think oysters--and side dishes traditional to the region. I had fried shrimp, coleslaw, and crab chowder and the crab chowder was the best sherry-infused style crab soup I've ever had. The shrimp and hush-puppies also outstanding and the coleslaw fine. The service is prompt, cheerful, and there is enough room to eat inside or you can take it with you. Only downside is they're only open for lunch from I think around 11am to 2pm or so. And possibly not every day--I'm pretty sure not on Sunday because the fish market itself is closed on Sunday. As to the market, this is where I buy my fish including fish for sashimi and sushi and is the best I've found in town. I'm not always 100% impressed with their fish, but normally they're on top of their game.

Yelp
Place is clean and staff is friendly prices are high but that's seafood for ya! Love the variety! We have been buying there a few weeks now and really enjoy it! Def one of the better seafood spots we have been to get fresh seafood to cook!

Yelp
If you are looking for fresh fish this is the place that you want to go however they are showing a picture of the seafood restaurant but right next to the seafood restaurant is the fish market Russo's fish market. You pick out whatever fish it is that you want by your own hand I use a napkin I look for the clarity and the eyes as well but don't really have to do that because all their fish is fresh and I mean fresh there's shrimp they're fresh shrimp! You can sometimes see the green and blue on the tails when you see the green and blue on tails you know you have the freshest shrimp that you can get. They don't spray that spray on them it's not farm raised shrimp it is actual local caught shrimp there is a big difference in texture Bass, sheep head, flounder, red snapper, and grouper and drum are some of the fish that they carry you will enjoy they have lump crab meat , claw meat fresh and alive crawfish and muscles and oysters oh and be sure if you haven't got your oysters on yet LOL! Every month with the r letter is the best time to get your fresh oysters with that being said April is the last so get your oysters on.....lol but yes this is the place to go for your fresh fish enjoy

Yelp
Russo's is a wonderful seafood market and my go to for fresh seafood. Their restaurant sits on the other side of the parking lot from their seafood market. This is my spot for fresh flounder, oysters (fresh shucked or burlap bags full for the oyster roast), tuna, salmon, blue crab: jumbo, lump or body meat and so much more. Additionally, they'll clean your fresh catch for a few

Tom H.

Yelp
Be careful with your purchases. Purchased 3 pounds of Stone Claw legs - Normally, they are cooked dockside but Russo's were not cooked. Did not realize it until 2 days later and had to throw out $60 as they did not smell good Spoke to the owner, and told him he was losing a customer, and it did not bother him. He said I should have realized they were not cooked. Never had a problem at the Bluffton oyster factory or the sea eagle..

B B.

Yelp
The selection of whole fish was fresh and plentiful. I saw the Sheepshead fish that I had to have!!! They had shucked tray of oysters with cocktail sauce already to go! Hush puppies and deviled crab at 6.99 a piece. Packaged fish and shrimp was a little pricey but the whole fish was a fantastic price!! They cleaned and gutted , scaled and filleted perfect!!! No extra charge. The wait was not long!! And they put everything on ice for you!! You can't beat it!! Local clams were delicious!! Great price on them!!

Yelp
The reason I'm giving this one star is because the service was horrible. I'm a handicapped woman it was a big deal for me to get out of my car and go inside. there were two women in the front. 6 people behind the counter ..only myself and 1 other customer. one who was folding napkins. the one who is not folding napkins ignored me, even after her customer left. the one who was folding napkins was two steps from the door but did not hold the door for me. I went in to buy fresh oysters. she pointed across the (fairly large for a handicapped 70 old with just my cane, not my wheelchair.) room at the oysters .there were no prices. no information whatsoever about how many I could buy ...i.e...could I buy a dozen? excetera every single question that I asked her she went and asked someone in back room. and came back I ended up buying a peck which was $30 she said , after 3rd time I asked prices...otherwise the oysters were a dollar each when I got back I counted the oysters that was 32 oyster in there and they were mostly small or it's just not a regulation size at all. also here I am handicapped walking with a cane hardly able to walk and she did not offer to carry them to the handicap spot right outside of the door to the car. I had to ask her for that help.... it was maybe 10 steps very easy for her, extremely hard for me to deal with my cane, the door, and 30 fresh oysters was very heavy.. there were no other customers in there at the time I won't go back there are too many other places to buy fresh seafood.

Karen L.

Yelp
We didn't eat at the restaurant but bought some fresh trout at their market, they had a great selection of fresh seafood and the staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely a five star establishment.
google avatar

Yelp
Great fish market, especially the shucked oysters on the half shell. This may be the only place in town for those. Skip the restaurant. Just awful, from incredibly slow service to lousy food, this despite very nice staff.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
This fishmonger has been around and it delivers. It is a bit pricier but the items taste fresh. I was suspicious of the items that were pre-packaged but it does not suffer in flavor. A caveat of shopping for shrimp or scallops, they are pre-packaged so you can't order a specific amount.
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
What can be said other than "Off the Charts", seafood where the local folks go...baked fish or fried oysters, sweet shrimp. And order extra hush puppies. A local recommended the Deviled Crab...the real deal, not crab cakes that are considered a Maryland import. Oh, a must try Crab Soup, more like a bisque or stew. We got some to go for later it was soooo good!

Yelp
Russo's is a Savannah institution for a reason. They consistently offer fish, scallops, crab, and shrimp you might be able to match, but you will not find better. The freshest local shrimp and crab makes for perfect Hot Crab Dip, Low Country Boil, or whatever else you want. Since 1946, the Russo family has offered fresh local seafood. My wife's grandfather grew up in Savannah in a family that goes back in the city to the 1820s. He always insisted that buying seafood meant a trip to Russo's. Over time, I have learned how right he was.

Yelp
The most cleanest seafood market i been to in Savannah, GA. It's located on Abercorn street which runs through the entire Savannah area. It has it's own restaurant next door with a private parking lot in the middle. This establishment has all kinds of seafood, shell fish, and expensive caviar. However, their seafood is a bit pricey. A small jar of caviar runs up to $110 and over price fish. They also have fresh oysters, clams, and frozen stored seafood in fridges. This place also cleans and scrape the scales off the fish. Overall, it's a great seafood market with plenty of seafood to check out.

Yelp
This is a serious seafood store (probably wholesale as well as retail), and presumably Russo's Restaurant sprung out of the availability of seafood from the store. This is the place to go to get fresh local seafood, whether to take home and grill, to check as baggage in TSA approved container, or to ship (air freight) to anywhere FedEx goes. We love Georgia shrimp, and got 5-lbs packed to-go for our flight back to Seattle. While fresh Alaska shrimp is popular in Seattle and very good, Georgia shrimp is sweeter, and this is the place to get it if you're traveling. They had quite a variety of fresh local fish (probably 10-species), as well as salt cod (which seemed surprisingly popular). They'll also take a fisherman's catch and clean/fillet it for you, and package it to go. The result is that this is the place the locals go either to get fish, or if they caught too much to clean themselves, to have someone else prepare the fish they caught. Such places are only found where there are active fisheries - and it's well worth a visit.

Yelp
This review is for the fresh market. My family frequents this market making purchases at least twice a month totaling over $100 most times. This is to show that we typically have a pleasant experience. However, the last purchase was unacceptable. A male cashier was very rude, raising his voice towards my mother. When asking to address this issue with a manager, he only made matters worse. His response was, "There's nothing I can do about his attitude." We returned on Monday to speak with Mr. Russo himself and again left feeling less than valued as a customer. When spending your money in any establishment you want to know that you are welcome and valued. You will not find that here with this particular cashier nor the manager. At least address customer concerns or have the customer feel like their voice is being heard which Mr. Russo did not.

Yelp
Had shrimp P.O. boy with crab soup, very tasty and fresh. Old house behind fresh fish market, very good. Would recommend it highly.

John I.

Yelp
Traditional retail seafood. In business and just what you would expect from a retail establishment that's been around for 50 years with the same owner and management.

Yelp
This place is first class! I wanted fresh seafood to bring back to Atlanta and they had it all! Even cleaned and iced my fish in the cooler.
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
Wow, after spending a ton of money on the riverfront and having a bad meal, this place was an excellent recommendation from a guy at the local coffeehouse. The food here is fresh, delicious and priced a third of the price of what we paid on the river front. I had the baked flounder, seasoned perfectly which was moist and delicious! My mate had the fried oysters and shrimp which had a nicely seasoned breading and were very tender. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and so tasty!! I like the idea of not having a server, paying at the register and seating yourself. My style. Save yourself a lot of money and enjoy a home made, delicious meal!
google avatar

Darlene D.

Yelp
My only complaint is that they're only open for lunch! The market next door has the best, freshest fish selection and it's prepared perfectly next door. Cute casual atmosphere , with reasonable prices and consistent results. Definitely check out the crab stew, so delicious and so much crab it's unbelievably good. The hush puppies may be the best I've had. Also, Patrick is a pleasant, professional who makes sure your food is perfect and makes you feel welcome.

Yelp
Russos was recommended to me by a neighbor. This is the 1st seafood place I've been in that didn't smell fishy. I bought a porgie for the 1st time. Anything that comes from the sea, they have. It's clean, the prices are reasonable and the lady that assisted me was knowledgeable about everything. They even have all the seasoning you need and even carry the old fashion stone ground grits. Next time I'll try the resturant.

Yelp
We had an excellent local seafood lunch. We had a fried flounder sandwich and fried shrimp tacos. The Crab soup was excellent. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We will be back.

Lily M.

Yelp
Delicious! Fresh food and friendly people! The crab soup is a must; it's even better than the one at Vic's on the River. We were a party of 6 and got a little bit of everything: hush puppies, soup, fried fish of the day, fried shrimp, oyster poboy, crab cakes, and the shrimp salad sandwich. Everything was fantastic! Great service too.
google avatar

Gordon K.

Yelp
This is a place owned by a local family which makes it really neat to me. We sampled fried shrimp, fried oysters, crab soup and "fries". They did not have oysters on the half shell. Oysters were "fresh", but in-last-two-days fresh. They were fried at too low of a temperature and were greasy and soggy. "Fries" were large wedges of cut potatoes that were pan seared. I wanted fries and did not care for these. Soup was pretty good, but not spectacular. Shrimp was not that-day fresh. They had no ketchup the day we went and the cocktail sauce was way watered-down with just a few specks of horseradish. The order taker was very courteous and helpful. I would not go back to this restaurant, although the seafood market may be fine.
google avatar

Cindy H.

Yelp
This shrimp salad was awesome. My husband had the fried flounder sandwich. It was huge and delicious. Tried the crab stew and definitely will be getting that again. James and the staff was very friendly. The food came out quickly. Definitely on my list for a great place to eat.
google avatar

Chiffon S.

Yelp
This is the first time me and my co-workers had lunch there. The food was excellent. I had the devil crab plate. OMG! It was delicious. The taste took me back to when my mother would cook like that! My co-workers loved their lunch too. The prices were very reasonable. The staff was very friendly and knew everything about their menu. I will go there again the future!
google avatar

Shianne S.

Yelp
Great selection, all fresh seafood. The cashier was super friendly, she gave us some of her Doritos she was snacking on. Such a welcoming and lovely lady. So nice of her to do that. We're from Florida and we never experience such amazing service like when we come to Savannah. Keep it up. Oh and prices are fantastic! I couldn't believe how cheap everything was!

Jack M.

Yelp
Outstanding fresh seafood. I had oysters and shrimp and a cup of crab soup. All cooked the way it should be. Another thing I was the only out of state tag in the parking lot. That says it all. Enjoy!
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
The food is absolutely fabulous and fresh. The atmosphere is also down to earth and unpretentious. My wife and I really enjoy this place.

Yelp
I stop in here on Monday & it was okay given the fact I was the only person in the store at that time . Fast forward to today and the service was horrible, why you ask well let me tell you I'm waiting to be checkout 1st the lady is on the phone I wait , she doesn't say wait sir or anything . Now here's the kicker for me & why I'll never step foot in here again while I'm still waiting a lady comes into the door straight to the counter and immediately the lady at the counter says how can I help you . Wait a minute I've been her 5 minutes and you don't even Acknowledge me , this women comes in and you're kissing her backside . After that I put my two items back & told my daughter we didn't need to spend our money in a place like this !!
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, best crab cake I've ever had. It was mostly crab unlike most other crab cakes. The people who run it are so kind and helpful. The portions a great for the price, the service was quick. The lady cooking is the best parts of everyone's grandmother's all rolled into one please eat here! The shrimp salads are HUGE and the hushpuppies are fantastic!
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
I tried to call ahead and order shrimp peeled and deveined from 2 other seafood stores and was told Russo's was the only one that had a machine to do that. I called up Russo's and was told it was no problem and thanks for calling ahead as Friday is one of their busiest days. I showed up 20 minutes later and picked up my shrimp. They were the nicest and friendliest place I called.

Yelp
Can't speak to the Fresh fish market but the Resturant is a grease bucket. The young kid st the counter was clueless about menu. Asked him about the fish and his answer was, I don't eat fish!! Tasteless coleslaw, potato salad. Worst coleslaw I ever eaten. Hush puppies greasy. Fish sandwich was ok with cheap hamburger bun. She Crab soup was good but I was so disappointed since there is so many wonderful restaurants in Savannah and last day for lunch. Don't waste your time. We were was so turned off I didn't go into the fish market.

Justin S.

Yelp
Very casual atmosphere. You order at the front counter and they bring your food out to you. Decor is what you would expect: tall round wood tables, with photos of fishermen and the Russos, along with fish nets, etc. on the walls. Have eaten here a few times for lunch and have enjoyed it, but it is not fine dining. I had a fried fish sandwich and hush puppies and it was adequate, the fish was a thin (though fairly good sized) filet which was a little overcooked, which made it somewhat dry. The breading/ seasoning was good, but not particularly highly seasoned. (This is not a Cajun restaurant, after all.)The hush puppies were good. Others I was with enjoyed their shrimp salad, crab, etc. A good local lunch option.

Brenda R.

Yelp
IN April I purchased a bushel of oysters from Russo's. They were all bad. After planning a party and depending on Russo's to sell me the best and fresh oysters. My quest had the chore of re-bagging the bad oysters for me to return to the store. Russo's refunded my money. This should have never happened. They pride themselves in their their many years in business and experience but they sell me a bushel of bad oysters. No apology for ruining my party or all the trouble to return the bad oysters. I want be going back.

C M.

Yelp
I won't buy my seafood anywhere else. They do a beautiful job on cleaning fish. It's always fresh. These are the types of businesses that don't exist anymore. I won't even look at the slimy smelly fish in supermarkets.
google avatar

Juls H.

Yelp
Warm greeting from Patrick, THE BEST crab stew made by cook with 24-years with the restaurant, amazing FRESH cooked-to-order meal in relaxed setting. Fried shrimp & fish sandwich amazing, too.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
Wow - talk about a local scene. The owner is the nicest guy EVER. Place is in an old converted house right next to the fish market where they source their stuff. Fried fish was good. Potato salad good. Other sides not so much. Great hush puppies. Fun funky place

Nance C.

Yelp
Went here with 2 friends right before 12 noon. Food = good to great. Service = poor & bungled. The counter man was anxious about orders piling up on the 1 cook, and was trying to get additional help from their fish market by phone. My friends were on 1 ticket and each had fried shrimp with hush puppies and sides. I ordered a child sized fried fish with hush puppies and cole slaw right after them. After quite a wait, the fried shrimp plates came out. The shrimp was delicious, cooked perfectly with a slightly spicy thin breading. They were almost through eating when I saw an order after mine being carried to other diners. I went to check on my order. The counter man apologized for losing my order, but since so many other diners had come in after me, I had another long wait for my food while my friends waited for me. My fried fish was good and not overly breaded, but the fish itself tasted overly salty. The hush puppies were perfect, the best I've ever had. We also got a separate order of hush puppies which we scarfed down. I've also had shrimp salad here - enough to split for 2 people, and delicious.
google avatar

Ronny K.

Yelp
Russo's was fun and very good. There is no table service, so you have to order at the counter. The stuffed shrimp were great, but on the small side. The crab stew and grouper chowder were both delicious.
google avatar

Chad L.

Yelp
My go to seafood spot, I grill seafood 3 times a week as a rule and their Trigger filets always are fresh and affordable. Staff is accomdating and helpful and the store is clean which makes it all the better for me.
google avatar

Shawn S.

Yelp
The most amazing deviled crab. You have to get roulade sauce to go with it. It has just a bit of a kick perfect for the dish.

Shelly C.

Yelp
A bit far from downtown, but so worth the trip. I had the oyster plate, which came with 2 sides and 2 hushpuppies. The oysters were fresh, plump, succulent, and fragrant, lightly battered and fried. The hushpuppies were soft and fluffy on the inside and golden brown crispy on the outside. Perfection! I wanted to have the entire meal again, even before I had finished my plate. We got an order of the mouthwatering hushpuppies to go. Easy parking in lot, casual dining in rooms with simple nautical theme. Definitely recommending to family, friends, and strangers alike. Will be stopping in again whenever in Savanah again.
google avatar

Donna R.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. I highly recommend the deviled crab platter. Two sides and two crab cakes (with a little spicy kick) served in crab shells. It was so good!! It was also pretty cheap which I was surprised and happy about. Don't expect Class A service or silverware: this is a slightly rustic/plastic silverware type place. The women working are doing a million things at once but they're nice- just busy. I will definitely be back!
