"Known for its award-winning restaurant, Rust en Vrede is an epic destination for gourmands who love fine dining. The modern winery, which has a split-level tasting room, is bedecked in classic leather and wood. A terrace beneath ancient oaks overlooks verdant lawns edged with rose bushes. The winery, which straddles traditional and cutting-edge techniques, is known for its range of reds, from full-bodied Cabernets to smooth Merlot, Shiraz, and red blends. Bonus fact: Nelson Mandela served selections from Rust en Vrede at his Nobel Peace Prize dinner." - Jane Broughton

A culinary highlight for years. We have been coming back to this wonderful restaurant for many years – and we are delighted every time. The chef and his team consistently deliver at the highest level. Simply heavenly! The wine selection is outstanding. It is also particularly pleasing that the staff has become noticeably more relaxed over time – always friendly and attentive, yet no longer as formal as in the past. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

A World-Class Wine Experience with Historic Charm As an Australian, I’ve always believed we produce some of the best wine in the world and have the finest winery experiences to match—but Rust en Vrede genuinely blew me away. Set in the heart of Stellenbosch, this estate offers a perfect blend of breathtaking scenery, deep winemaking heritage, and a passion for excellence that’s evident in every glass. Established in 1694, Rust en Vrede is steeped in history, yet everything about the experience feels current, curated, and exceptional. The wines were nothing short of superb—elegant, complex, and clearly crafted with great care. The team’s knowledge and enthusiasm were contagious, and the sommelier’s storytelling elevated the entire tasting journey. You walk away not just having tasted great wine, but understanding it. The restaurant menu may be intentionally limited, but it’s absolutely not about quantity—it’s about quality. My meal was perfectly executed, paired brilliantly with the wine, and served in a setting that felt equal parts refined and relaxed. It’s no wonder Rust en Vrede has achieved international acclaim. From its historic Cape Dutch architecture to its award-winning reds, this is a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates fine wine and genuine hospitality. Absolutely fantastic. A new benchmark for me.

Came here for wine tasting as we were in the area for a night. Decided to come here based on the reviews. The venue is very nice and you can tell there is a lot of history there. The tasting we had was red wine based and very affordable. The overall experience was ok but I would have expected more from the experience. Didn’t have lunch there but the food looked nice.

Went for lunch at tasting room. The restaurant only opens for dinner. Huge serving. Small price! The meal comes with a large glass of wine. Very good service by Tom.

We returned for dinner the second time, after having an amazing experience in 2020, and did not think that it could get any better - but it did! The service, the wine, the menu and general presentation were perfect. The fine-dining atmosphere was comfortable and enjoyable, making everyone feel welcome. Definitely a recommendation and we cannot wait to return!

One of the best lunch I ever had, the fillet is melt in your mouth. The service is impeccable and we bought extra wines because they are worth it. Highly recommended, you won’t retreat your decision

Great selection of delicious wines and food, all very well explained. The young and approachable team makes the whole experience even better 💕 The crowd is stylish, but still relaxed. The coffee wasn’t great, but that’s easily forgiven. Definitely a place worth visiting!

What a wonderful evening. The food is excellent and the combination of the ingredients and tastes are the most important factor contributing to the experience. This is in contrast to many similar establishments, where side-shows distracts from the food and tastes. The staff are very professional and efficient. Well worth the price.
