Rust en Vrede Wine Estate

I celebrated my birthday lunch here with friends. The food was just top quality. Although the menu is limited everything is tasty and perfect - not to mention the wine. I highly recommend this wine farm. It was a lovely experience and a memorable birthday.

We spent a very pleasurable afternoon at this estate. The entrance and surrounding just took our breath away. We reached around 2pm so there was quite a crowd there. We put our name on the list, bought a glass of wine and wandered around. The estate is very pretty and reeks of luxury. Definitely worth a visit

This was our second visit to the Winemaker’s Lunch at this beautiful winery. The setting is gorgeous in the garden terrace outside the restaurant and wine tasting building. There is a limited choice for the lunch but all are superbly cooked and presented - a peppered fillet steak with salad and fries, a sirloin steak with garlic butter plus salad and fries and finally, pan fried salmon with sautéed potatoes and salad. Between the 4 of us we tried each dish and were just overwhelmed with the quality and taste. Each meal is accompanied by selected wines from the vineyard and these were carefully explained by the waiting staff who were very knowledgeable and extremely attentive. I would say that my medium rare fillet steak was probably the best I’ve ever tasted. Thoroughly recommended.

Rust en Vrede in Stellenbosch fully lives up to its reputation as one of South Africa’s finest vineyards. It’s the only estate dedicated exclusively to red wines, and the results speak for themselves — the Syrah from the wine tasting (R120) was a clear standout. For lunch, the menu is simple but perfectly executed: sirloin, filet, and salmon, each around R390 and all excellent. The setting is stunning, with panoramic vineyard views and a serene, refined atmosphere. Service was stellar — attentive without being overbearing. It’s easy to see why Travel + Leisure names Rust en Vrede the #1 vineyard in Cape Town.

Very beautiful and friendly staff. Xavier did our wine tasting and was very passionate and well informed. We loved every second.

A culinary highlight for years. We have been coming back to this wonderful restaurant for many years – and we are delighted every time. The chef and his team consistently deliver at the highest level. Simply heavenly! The wine selection is outstanding. It is also particularly pleasing that the staff has become noticeably more relaxed over time – always friendly and attentive, yet no longer as formal as in the past. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Expensive but absolutely Worth Every Cent! We had lunch yesterday at Rust en Vrede’s Tasting Room, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. You can’t make a reservation, so it’s definitely worth arriving early. The salmon was honestly one of the best we’ve ever had — perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The venue itself is beautiful, peaceful, and elegantly designed, making it the perfect spot for lunch in Stellenbosch Winelands Highly recommended! Saskia our waiter was also great!
