Katori Hall’s Grub Street Diet

"While I was in rehearsal at Signature Theatre I was ordering shakshuka from Rustic Table every morning; it was my go-to breakfast when working because it’s healthy and they could deliver it to me really fast, which pushed me to learn how to make it myself." - Chris Crowley

Wow… an incredible dining experience in Pawley’s. We shared the blackened shrimp over the grit cake and it was sinful. I would go back and get that as my main meal!! I also ordered the smash burger with a side of fried green tomatoes and it was fantastic. So much so that I find myself comparing back to that burger! Our waitress was incredibly kind and hospitable, who was very good at her job. My Mom is new to the area and I’m so happy to have picked this restaurant, as it’s become our favorite! The prices are also incredible.

Google
Dustin was our server and he is awesome!!! The Food and the atmosphere was the best that we have had in a long time! The chef knows what he is doing and everything is fresh and is farm to table. It is a bit pricey but WELL Worth it! The Chocolate Chip Roasted Banana Bread Pudding with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is one of my favorite desserts!! We will return! My wife got the Boneless Fried Chicken Breast with Lake Swamp Farm Honey, green beans, and mashed potatoes. I got the Shrimp and Grits. Definitely worth a visit. 10+Stars

Google
Amazing food and drink. Great value for the money. The children’s meals were such good food, not simply microwaved. We had a party of 15 and the waitstaff care was perfection. Shoutout to Carol who gave us care. She was patient and kind. We had the seafood gumbo, fresh catch trout, shrimp and grits and more…one of us has a seafood allergy, and one of us is a vegetarian. Both of us were well cared for. Craft margaritas were great too.

Google
Great food options and good vibes! This place packs out immediately and I see why now. Make reservations or get there early!!! Our only gripe was they overcooked the steak (asked for medium rare and it came out medium well), but it was still delicious. Not a big deal. Grab a cup of clam chowder!!!

Mary N.

Google
Amazing. Julian was an excellent server and is very good at his job. The food was on point. The highlights are the steak salad, steak pasta, short rib, shrimp and grits, shrimp app with cream corn, smash burger and brisket nachos. Wasn't a fan of the clam chowder or she crab soup, but everything else was so good I still gave it 5 stars.

Google
This lovely place is a must-try in Pawley’s Island! I went with my friends the other day: the warm atmosphere, good service, and delicious food were just what we were looking for! I started with the She Crab soup (one of the best I’ve ever had), and had Ms. Anne’s pecan salad with fried flounder as my meal. It was refreshing and delicious! I look forward to coming here again!

Google
Rustic Table is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. They offer friendly service and serve southern comfort food in a casual environment with indoor and outdoor seating. The food tastes delicious!

Leilani P.

Google
This spot was a delightful surprise recommendation from some folks over at Caledonia Fish and Golf Club! Dustin was a wonderful server: attentive and knowledgeable as well as genuine! He accommodated my allergy as well as my additional requests. The steak salad was delightful, as well as our entrees (Stuffed Flounder and Smash Burger, pictured)! We definitely hope to return here, and don’t forget to ask about the bread!

Yelp
Always amazing food! Went 2 times on vacation and everything was amazing! Will definitely continue to visit.

Yelp
By Chicago standards, this place wouldn't exist. On arrival, seated in back with a large loud party even though other seats available. Upon request, denied different table. The table that sat down next to us at the same time, same issue and they left. Host rude. Bathroom soap dispenser not working. Staff slow to fix. Food was not good. Salmon overcooked. Kids pastas cold. Nachos terrible. Soup too creamy. Basically BAD food and terrible service.

Yelp
A casual and contemporary eatery with indoor and outdoor seating, Rustic Table offers delicious food, friendly service, and an excellent location. From appetizers to main courses to desserts, they perfected southern comfort food! It's surrounded by shops and other businesses, making it a bit difficult to find a parking space during peak hours. They only serve breakfast/brunch on weekends.

Yelp
Nice, cozy, and dry during a rainstorm. Very accommodating staff with answers to anything on the menu. There was a bit of a wait for a table and from order in to food out. The burgers were worth the small inconvenience of a suddenly packed house all ordering lunch. The Grayman Burger was very tasty and had the freshest topping possible. We will keep this in mind for future visits to the island.

Yelp
We absolutely love Rustic Table and always enjoy stopping in when we are down in Pawleys Island. My go to is always the shrimp and grits and I always tell myself that I am going to try something different each time but I always end up going with the tried and true. I love the combination of the shrimp and sausage and the broth is so flavorful. The hubs recently discovered the brisket nachos and has made this his meal the last couple of times we have been here. I don't know how they prepare their brisket but holy moly it is so full of flavor that I would just take a bowl of it on its own. lol Service is always great no matter when we go whether it is lunch time or dinner time, high season or low season. This is definitely one of our favorite places to visit and take friends and family who are visiting us from out of town.

Yelp
We dined at Rustic Table last weekend during our stay in Pawleys Island and had a nice experience! I made the reservation a few days prior and was able to snag a 5:30 spot on a Friday evening. We arrived and got seated right away. The atmosphere is definitely a "rustic" feel, cozy ambiance and spacious although a little tight and loud when busy! No biggie though, everything is busier during the holiday season! Our server, Olivia was very friendly and was able to answer specific questions we had regarding the menu. They have a fairly extensive wine menu, and I opted for my usual: Cabernet. We were also given waters. We ordered a grilled cheese and fries for our daughter, and she seemed to enjoy it! For our entrees, we went with the Blackened Mahi and Braised Short Rib. I got Fried Okra and a side of Mac & Cheese with the Mahi that typically would be served with dirty grits. My husband loved his short rib, and I got to taste it; super delicious and tender! My Blackened Mahi was pretty good too. The Mac & Cheese was great as was the Fried Okra! I think my favorite was the okra, but only because it's not a typical dish served at restaurants, so as soon as I saw it on the menu, I knew it was coming my way. All in all, this place was great. I do wish places although "southern" style, would offer a few more options of dishes that aren't fried/breaded. I do love this spot and would recommend it! We would go back!

Yelp
We enjoyed lunch on the patio here. We ordered a BLTA and Shrimp N Gritz. Both meals were delicious. The service was great and the staff was friendly.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere on the heated patio. The waitress was very nice and food was homemade and comforting. I got Hamburg patties with mushroom and onion gravy and delicious mashed potatoes. For a side I chose Cole slaw. So good. Sweet and fresh and delicious

Yelp
Hello Pawleys Island! The rustic table is such an amazing restaurant, so glad we found it! We ordered takeout last night and everything was amazing, my wife had the egg rolls and soup, delicious, father in law had the short ribs amazing, mother in law had the yummy shrimp and grits and I had the pan seared salmon which was on the same level as Gordon Ramseys crispy skin salmon. Omg we also had the beef brisket nachos...so good. We enjoyed the food so much we came back the next day for brunch! The corned beef hash my dad loved, our son loved the little farmers pancakes, I enjoyed my smash burger w no bun adding an egg and bacon, my wife absolutely loved her hot honey fried chicken sandwich said it was the best she has had in South Carolina. Our server Olivia was phenomenal she definitely deserves a raise! Since it is only an hour drive from us we will definitely be back and enjoy some food and drinks!

Yelp
Delicious food; friendly service. Extremely lively restaurant. Great menu. They also had a list of scrumptious desserts, like blueberry cobbler.

Yelp
Met some old friends here. Place was jam packed; reservations are a must! We all enjoyed our meals. Server was super friendly. The ambiance was fine, very family-oriented.

Yelp
My Husband and I were visiting Myrtle Beach and decided to drive down to Georgetown and then on the way back stop through Pawleys Island. We were checking yelp for good places to eat lunch and Rustic Table was number 1. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of either of our plates but take my word for it, they were delicious! I ordered the shrimp n' grits, they were some of the BEST shrimp n' grits I've ever had. My husband ordered the Mahi Salad and he said his was also delicious and he would recommend it! The service was excellent, our waiter was very nice and made sure we had anything we needed and that the food was good. The restaurant itself is cute and taken care of. It was clean and welcoming. We would definitely eat here again and recommend it!

Yelp
Too expensive for what you get, the food was average the server we had was very helpful and provided great service.

Yelp
Grace was wonderful! We had such a good experience after we happened upon Rustic Table! The food was delicious and the Bloody Mary was awesome as well! Just we what we needed!

Yelp
I am completely disappointed! I've been back to this establishment on two occasions! Granted it was an odd hour between lunch and dinner and was told by the hostess (who wasn't very inviting ) you weren't serving lunch and not serving dinner...that they (I suppose this is The chef for the Wait staff I don't know who ) takes a break between lunch and dinner so they were not serving any food and we were turned away... I find this disheartening and unwelcoming! There were clearly people seated eating.... There's another couple ready to go in. Don't worry I let them know that your hostess made it clear that you aren't serving any food! Fine! I'm sure there are plenty of other places in Murrels Inlet that would be welcoming! Bye!

Yelp
Total bummer, I really want to like this place but at the end of the day it's just basic bar food. Burgers & fries are great! Everything else relies on lots of salt and plenty of frying. Perhaps that's what they mean by "southern" but our standards are higher. Tonight my 86 year old dad was given cold ribs. ‍ They were replaced with hotter ribs, no apology. When it was time to pay, our waiter was MIA. Thankfully the friendly bartender helped us leave. Oh well, another PI joint comes off our list.

Yelp
Its a solid restaurant. My family loves it, but I would be happy to skip it. Service is always solid and they do a few things very well, others are completely forgettable. Items we like: Fried Calamari, chicken fried steak, shrimp and grits and the complimentary bread. Things that are mid: Po Boy - clams are good, but the bread is too heavy. Mashed potatoes tasted like a (poorly seasoned) mix this year, despite having chunks. Crab cakes - looked pre-made and didn't really have any flavor. The french fries are nothng special, but were served hot and crisp. IMHO, some really good onion rings would be far better suited to this place. Clam chowder - great flavor, but appeared to have sat on the soup station a bit too long. It definitely had that browned hue that soup gets when kept warm too long. Things we didn't like: stuffed flounder. Things that should never be ordered: Alligator bites. These were the "popcorn" version with absolutely no detectable meat. The sauce served with the bites was delicious, however. All in all, a neat local place, in a great location, with friendly service. Food is slightly above average on a good day, but is priced accordingly. For the price, there are other compelling options. But if you stick to the things they do well and like the vibe (and it is a good vibe), you could do far worse. Without alcohol and desert, expect to pay $50-$60 a person.

Yelp
Wonderful place for our lunch. Quaint, small place, great service. We did not wait long but could see it being hard to get in. I would recommend reservations when you come. Food was great all around for the five us. And again service was wonderful.
google avatar

Kathy G.

Yelp
Fantastic She Crab soup, fried pickles were great-thick and well seasoned homemade pickles. Shrimp and Grits were excellent. Friend had Tuna and Risotto, which she loved. Another friend had the Grayman Burger and said it was delicious. I had Proud Mary and it was spicy. Service was fast, attentive and professional. Bar with TV but wasn't really loud.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
Food was great service was great wife had a blt she said it was the best one she had ever had I had the shrimp po'boy it was great

Yelp
The food was ok.Service was ok. The ambience was just not good;very cramped. If you have a small party then this would not be a great place to eat.

David B.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Brisket egg rolls, she crab soup and beef tip salad were delish. Only disappointment was the portion size of the yummy crab cakes. House blend red was pleasantly dry and much to our liking. Carol was a delightful server.

Mitzie B.

Yelp
Food was yummy, service was as fantastic. The atmosphere was amazing. Love everything about Rustic Table. We've been going there for years.

Yelp
We passed thru Pawley's Island and decided to stop by Rustic Table for their brunch/lunch food and it didn't disappoint us! The place is so cozy and all the staffs were welcoming and friendly. The food were amazing. My husband had country fried steak with scrambled eggs, gravy and potatoes. They were so good. I had Adams omelet and it cooked to perfection with generous amount of shrimp in it. My kids enjoyed their kids meal that came with fries and fresh fruits. Also, there is a store before the restaurant so you can window shopping or go shop (I did) at that cute little store. You have to go and check out this gem! So so good!

Herb H.

Yelp
Made reservations and seated early. Orders were accurate food was as advertised. Only two deficiencies:, shrimp sandwich was dry, and when delivered to our table, the server placed the plate in such a way that one shrimp rolled off. Asked do another'shrimp' and was completely ignored. An apology would have sufficed as opposed to being ignored.

The M.

Yelp
Great eatery! Diverse menu with something for everyone Smiley staff, The Smash Burger is incredible. Add the bacon and egg. Best burger you will ever eat. Trust me. We travel from Myrtle to Charleston regularly and ALWAYS stop at Rustic Table for Smash burgers. Just go. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
Love love this place! The food was amazing and arrived at the table fast! Lots of seating and fun atmosphere. Lisa was our server and she was SO great! Highly recommend!

Jacqueline L.

Yelp
Got seated outside last night and within a couple of minutes we were bitten up. Next table was swatting at bugs. We moved inside quickly. Hostess proceeded to seat more tables outside (why??) and then people moved inside. Food did not match reviews. Below average. Ribs were dry as if they had been around for quite a while. Caesar salad -- with onions?? Best food was the bread service! Sad to report that we will not be back. Waitstaff was so kind that I feel badly leaving this review. Should have just gone to a burger joint for cheap and quick meal. One lady said she loved the place. Perhaps a bad night??

Paul H.

Yelp
Great food and wonderful service, they went out of their way to cook the food our way or differently than listed on menu. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We were on vacation visiting family that moved to Surfside City recently and came to Rustic Table on the recommendation of their neighbors. Glad we did! Highly suggest reservations if you're coming for dinner. It gets quite crowded with a waitlist. I was happy to have the reservation when we got there and saw how packed it was. Parking can also be crowded - it's right next to a little commercial strip that if you come for dinner, the other stores are closed which gives you a few more spaces available. Traditional southern dishes done to a pretty high standard. We really enjoyed our meal. Server was Matt (I think) and he was really personable and gave solid suggestions. Funnily enough, he said aside from the Shrimp and Grits (award winning, fantastic) he said the thing not to miss was the meatloaf. And then the meatloaf ran out right as a couple people in our party were going to order it! The ones who live nearby will have to try it another time. Party of 4 and we tried quite a few things: She's a Peach (cocktail) - my drink, peachy, boozy Arnold Palmer. Fantastic and went down really easily. I could drink entirely too many of these. Rustic Mule (cocktail) - husband got this and enjoyed it, he's a big Moscow Mule fan. Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer - 4 big slices, perfect for a bite for the whole table. Nice creamy (some kind of mayo/spicy aioli) dipping sauce with it. Really straight forward. Fried Okra appetizer - big plate of fried okra pieces. Nicely done, avoided the potential for slime pretty well! Shrimp and Grits - I had to order it, it's their best known dish and what they win all the awards for. I can see why. It was rich and fantastic. The sausage and the sauce is brilliant. If I lived near here I'd have a hard time making myself order anything else when I came here. Chicken-Fried Steak - husband got this, big ol' plate, generous mashed potato and collard greens sides and gravy. Collard greens were surprisingly excellent. Fish (snapper I think?) special with a bed of veggies and brown butter sauce - parents got this but didn't totally love it. Said the veggies overpowered the fish. Wasn't bad but wouldn't repeat the order. Pawleys Island Pie - so rich, so good. Needs ice cream with it. Peach cobbler - huge bowl of sweet deliciousness. Happily came with ice cream!

Yelp
We opted out of getting $8 s'mores and food truck food this year at Brookgreen Gardens and stopped here on the way home instead. No disrespect to BG...it's super lovely. We were just cold enough that we didn't want to eat outside. Rustic Table was a nice surprise out this way. I loved my pasta and the flavors of the Gorgonzola cheese that were mildly represented. It was really good. The kids meal was a good size, better than most kids meals I've purchased. And unlike most chicken tenders we get as kids meals, these were soft and not overly bready. Yay for the win. We will stop here again!

Yelp
In the area to repose...my 1st sitting at the Rustic Table....a SEC Saturday AM to dine on their porch; friendly comments abound while short wait...waiter with huge smile, a libation please (Carolina Cucumber) to toast as life finds me...Ahhh; the menu...excellent cup of SC She Crab (creamy-meaty)....so tasty I must follow with a glass of J Lohr Chard...within this timeframe, the restaurant quickly filled to capacity...settled for the Lunch Mahi w/veggies in a lemon-brown butter; well prepared, tasty indeed. Oh; you can prepare a few flash-fried oysters in a corn meal bath.....Hell to the Yea!! Excellent choice in the Pawleys-Litchfield restaurant venues of choices to choose...as to a SEC "W" for the COCKS, they were awesome in first half...keeping my seat on the Beamer Bus....

Yelp
This is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots to stop at while on vacation. Food and service has always been on point. There can be a bit of a wait, but it is totally worth it!

Michelle R.

Yelp
The staff was friendly & attentive- all seemed to enjoy being there. The food was amazing: had Shrimp Po Boy, Scallop Bisque, Smash Burger, Hot Chicken and Clam Chowder. All were absolutely fantastic! A must visit o. Pawley's Island!!

Yelp
We always come so many times to Rustic Table on vacation, but this is the first time we came just for dessert. We shared the peach cobbler and the dessert ion special, a chocolate mousse with caramel at our sweet server, Rivers, recommendation. Both were soooooo delicious.
google avatar

Pet P.

Yelp
Really great food but a crowded loud environment. They packed lot of people into small space. Service was good.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
I ordered a smash burger without there secret mustard sauce and mayonnaise instead. I ordered it medium rare. It came with the secret mustard sauce, no mayo. Cooked well done. Not good at all. The sides of fries and coleslaw were fine. The boss had the side salad and bowl of She-Crab soup. She said they were fine. But no comparison to what we have in the Charleston area. My second and last time visiting this place.
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
Great food and a great place for drinks and to get an awesome lunch or dinner. The Sunday brunch is great. Try the Bloody Mary. It is a meal.

Melvin L.

Yelp
The food was delicious, fresh and nice presentation. Our waiter was very friendly, explained the menu items well, didn't hover but was there if we needed anything. We ate outside which we don't normally do, but after the cold winter it was very nice. The shrimp and grits were outstanding, the clam soup was extremely good, flavorful meat was tender. Definitely one of our favorite meals and will go back!

Yelp
If every time you drive up and down 17 you think about where to stop to eat, Rustic Table is the answer. I've been considering stopping for years and so glad we finally did. It was a Sunday evening so options were limited. We stopped in on the early side of dinner and lucked out with a table for two on the covered patio. We got there just in time because it only got busier from that point on. Our server was this big guy with full sleeve tats. I forget his name but he was the best! You can tell he's the kind of guy that crushes it in F&B because he has such a good personality. He started out by recommending the special appetizer which was the chefs take on a clams casino dip. He told us he ate it for lunch and was eating it again for dinner... plus it sold out 2 orders after us. I would have never ordered it otherwise and I have to say this clam dip with tortillas was one of the best apps I've had in months. I'm still thinking about it and would even call ahead to see when it's on the menu to get it again. For entrees we had a steak salad and added fried oysters. They subbed the oysters instead but immediately brought out the portion of steak when we mentioned it. Both proteins were great but those oysters were impeccable. I had the shrimp and grits on recommendation of our server again. After the appetizer was such a hit, I couldn't veer off his path. Another winner with generous shrimp and lots of andouille sausage crumbles. The grits soaked up the gravy so I asked for some extra on the side, but they brought out this tiny little portion... probably my only complaint which was very minor. Nothing was jumping out at us on the dessert menu so we stopped at the ice cream place next door before hitting the road. This was an excellent dinner all around and while sometimes I'm making that drive I'm looking for a quick bite, if I have extra time, I'm definitely stopping here.

Lori D.

Yelp
Great food and service!! Huge line. Glad we got there early. Recommend the shrimp and grits!

Joan G.

Yelp
We had never been here before but it was close to my cardiologist so we found ourselves there for lunch after an appointment. There is indoor, outdoor and out of rain seating. We both had looked at the menu online before we even got there. For some reason, we were not told about the specials that day. No worries. We knew what we wanted. The steak salad for him. The chicken salad sandwich for me. My sandwich came with a small cup of their tomato soup and a side salad. He was pleased with his steak salad because the steak pieces were cut small enough where he didn't have to do anything but eat it. Everything that I had was delicious. My sandwich was big enough to bring home half of it for lunch the next day. Would we come back there? Of course. If you see me there, stop by and say hello.
google avatar

Warren T.

Yelp
I had the seafood platter and my guest had the salmon. Both were very good. I had the she crab soup. I wouldn't order it again. It was very thick and rich. Felt like I was eating fat. Service was only adequate. The patio was extremely noisy. I'm not sure I would go back for dinner. I like their takeout lunch better.

Elise J.

Yelp
Food was good and loved the vibe outside. I had the burger with the gluten free bun and it was great!
google avatar

Tammy J.

Yelp
Phenomenal! Wonderful food and atmosphere. The shrimp & grits was the best I've ever had, love the complimentary bread!
google avatar

Megan D.

Yelp
Rustic Table is one of our favorite restaurants in South Carolina. The food and service has never disappointed. For our anniversary we decided to come to Rustic Table: I usually get the she crab soup ( a must have) but the clam chowder was spectacular. My husband ordered a grilled ribeye with blue cheese stuffed potatoes, and I had a grouper over shrimp/sausage risotto- TO DIE FOR. We were talking about the grouper all night- absolutely stunning. We were too full for dessert but absolutely recommend coming to Rustic Table!
google avatar

Beth S.

Yelp
Specialty of the house is shrimp and grits. If you've never had it or hate grits, this dish will change your mind forever!!! The smash burger has onion jam. It was so moist and tender. Fries were perfection and the coleslaw was fresh and refreshing. The ambiance of the restaurant fits perfectly with the Pawleys Island's reputation for being "elegantly shabby" and jives perfectly with the other Island Shops. Thanks to Matt, service was an absolute rock star; knowledgeable, honest, and entertaining. We had the best time after a long day of traveling.

Yelp
My wife and I love this place, or used too. Our last two visits were not good, it was the food. It was just missing something out of each of our plates. Our February 14th 2023 order Mac and cheese X2 for our kids: it was tangy, the tangy taste over shadowed the cheese. While I liked it the kids hated it. Brie with pears and honey: had the Brie, had the pears and unfortunately there was no honey in the mixture. Fried chicken on biscuit covered in gravy: this was my dish and the biscuit was to hard to cut through on the outside. The inside was great. Chicken had over cooked edges that was tough to chew. The insides were great. The gravy had to much fat and not enough cream in it, left a fatty coating in your mouth. Was still delicious! Steak filet: was good also the beef was a bit tough. Normally we would be able to use a butter knife to cut a nice piece of meat. This need a steak knife to cut a tender cut of meat. While everything was good it is Just not as Great it used to be. Each dish was just not quite right. For a total bill of $128 plus 20% tip I will skip this restaurant in the future. The service of our waitress though was perfect. Honestly the best part of the bill was making sure she received the 20% gratuity

Yelp
Stopped in for a cold drink and shared some nachos. Great service and inviting atmosphere. Very quaint little shops spread out around a fountain sprayed pond. Pawley Island is a must see area for a pleasant day trip.
