Grandma decided we should eat out for Christmas Day, and I am so grateful she chose Rusty Pelican. As soon as you walked in you were transported to a Christmas wonderland with logs lit on the fireplace, stockings and ornaments galore, and soft Christmas music playing in the background. Within 5 minutes we were seated at a table in front of a gorgeous fireplace that kept us warm in the Florida chill. The menu was fixed and $82 per person. It was family style so everything was shared and passed except for our main course. We opted to celebrate with a bottle of champagne for $46; it was delicious and made even better with the addition of their mango tajin juice.
We were first served with a seafood plate comprised of raw oysters, raw jumbo shrimp, crab meat, salmon poke, crackers and sauces. It was fresh and had something for everyone.
We were then served a charcuterie and snack board that came with brie, manchego, prosciutto, salami, capicola, fig jam, cornichons, bacon-wrapped dates, applewood smoked ham sandwiches, and spinach dip. I enjoyed the twist of appetizers on your cookie cutter charcuterie board. We devoured the bacon-wrapped dates and grandma kept going back to the spinach dip. Shortly after, a Waldorf salad with dragonfruit came out. It was nothing like a traditional Waldorf but was good nonetheless.
For my main course, I ordered a bone-in pork chop that was supposed to come with cornbread stuffing and vegetables. Unfortunately, they ran out of the pork chop. I instead opted for the lobster eggs benedict which was delicious. The eggs benedict were served on squares of cornbread as opposed to english muffins, and I appreciated the Southern twist. Other members of my party enjoyed the steak and eggs Benedict with filet mignon, and the crab cake eggs Benedict. The consensus was that the food rocked our socks.
To cap off the night, we shared a dessert board filled with festive treats. Dessert included triple chocolate cake with peppermint sauce, gingerbread cheesecake, white, chocolate, pecan bars, Macarons, apple tartlets, lemon tartlets, and in true Florida fashion there were key lime pie tartlets. We hardly had room for dessert but enjoyed bubbling on some sweets.
All in all, the Rusty Pelican made my Christmas Day magical and memorable. Our server was kind and outgoing, and the decor was beyond festive. I plan on returning to try the regular menu soon!
