I had pretty high expectations for the Rydges because of their name and the price behind the rooms, but upon arriving here after a long day of travel, I was extremely disappointed.
I forgot to take photos of everything, but my notes from start to finish are as follows:
- The bath/shower combo was dirty around the edges and glass
- One of the kitchen cabinets was not attached properly and had some sort of sticker residue on it
- The kitchen bench top was cracked in 3 spots around the stove
- The bath was cracked
- The exhaust fan above the shower was full of dust
- The shower was far too low/bath base too high as my partner’s head was about an inch from the ceiling; he’s about 6ft
- The sink and shower drains were blocked, backing everything up into the floor drain
- One of the bedside lamps didn’t work at all, tried both powerpoints
- Edges of the floor and bench tops/surfaces were dusty
- The air con was noisy, sounded like wind was rushing into it all night
- We returned to the room on the second night to it smelling like sewerage, I assume because of the backed up drains
- We were overcharged $100; this was an easy fix, but no accountability or explanation for the error was provided
- Parking was extremely limited, thankfully the hotel was not packed.
Fortunately, the bedding and towels were clean, but that is the only positive thing I can note from our experience.
For about $260 per night, I was very disappointed; I could have picked another smaller hotel/motel/BNB for less cost and better facilities. A little bit more professionalism from the reception would also add a lot of value, instead of casual clothes and lack of enthusiasm. I thought we’d be safe going with the Rydges but that clearly isn’t the case.
