This was my first stay at a Rydges hotel, and after staying here, it will be my last. This was honestly among the worst hotel stays I have had to endure in my life. Thankfully, I only had a one-night stay. Google lists this as "posh" lodging. Clearly, Google staff have never set foot in this place. A run-down hostel would be more posh. All of the staff members were angry and indifferent, showing no customer service skills whatsoever. Instead, they all found ways to ignore the customer (doing paperwork and such) when you were in front of them, clearly displaying you are a bother to them, vs the money-generating revenue source that funds their paychecks.
When they finally acknowledge you, it is in an angry and surly tone and attitude. Check-in took 40 minutes as the two front desk clerks found ways to avoid serving the customer line extending out the door. A third agent attempted to get people to use the self-check-in kiosks, which did not work. We attempted to experience the advertised "refined dining" experience at the Ascot restaurant. However, when we were finally acknowledged, we were advised that they could not serve us, as it would take 40 minutes or more to get our food, despite the fact that the dining room was totally empty except for one table. Instead, we went to Smithy's bar, where we were served by the surly bar staff. Housekeeping had left only one towel in the room, so we asked the front desk representative if we could get a second towel. Despite saying we could, it was never delivered. On the one upside we then called housekeeping direct and did get the towel promptly delivered. The room itself was dingy with scuffed walls, but it did seem clean. The buffet breakfast was an average spread that nickel-and-dimed you, charging extra for some coffee drinks or hot chocolate. I did a self-checkout and left the key with the angry front desk representative, who just grunted as he took it. For all of this, as other reviews note, you pay highly overpriced prices on everything for "privilage(?)" of staying here. You're a block down and across the street (outside access) from the international terminal, so they rob you for this privilege. This hotel is an excellent case study in how NOT to run a hotel. My recommendation is to save yourself a lot of money and stay elsewhere.
