A fun place to hang out after getting off the train from RYOGOKU station. There are many good restaurants and whiskey bar there.

Visit this tea place near Ryogoku Station. Enjoy matcha and houjicha drinks and wagashi to pair it with. We had their brown sugar hot matcha latte and hot houjicha latte. It's a nice stop to rest and dine with your friends and experience their local tea offerings.

This was a great little excursion and I recommend it as a good alternative if you are not able to catch sumo season at the Ryōgoku stadium. They give a demo in a mock up ring with two retired sumos, who are the nicest guys and have a great sense of humour about the whole thing. From there you take your meal voucher and get some great food. Inside the compound make sure to be selective about which restaurant you go to as you have to use all your meal tickets in one place if you are multiple people (can’t share and then try other ones). You can buy extra dishes which is fine too. Lastly there is a sake sampling machine in one of the stores, well worth it to try a bunch of great sales.

I came for the Sake tasting and I’m so glad I did. Select the Sake you’d like to try, pop your money and the Sake cup in the vending machine and watch the magic happen. What a fantastic introduction to Sake!! Cheers!!

Amazing experience! Get to feel what a sumo ring is about.. was able to meet local wrestlers in the area..and lots of restos and good food.

Probably wrong time of day, most things closed, but we did see Sumo wrestlers just walking around outside, who eat at the restaurants under the train tracks

Must try the sake vending machine here. You can actually find souvenir to purchase from this place. They are famous with sumo, so most of the souvenir is related to sumo. If you are tired of walking, this is the best place for you to rest too. Recommended!

Yelp
A collective restaurant mall that is connected to JR Ryokoku Station. Maybe my hope were set too high as I visited Edo Noren for the first time in March of 2017. Not too often you hear about a large facility opening up in Ryokoku (or any where else in this old Tokyo area except Tokyo Sky Tree). Inside, the building housed 11 restaurants and 1 Sake store. In the middle of the pavilion stood a Sumo Wrestling Platform (dohyo). You can see a more natural one at a park near Shibuya. https://www.yelp.co.jp/biz/vrTufyBC3_29iVf9RfRZDg?uid=H7I6AKkYu-1jemA5cEVu4w&utm_campaign=www_business_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) Restaurants: I obviously haven't had the chance to try all 11, but Sushi Bar Masago Sushi was pretty bad. https://www.yelp.co.jp/biz/6_ppaA9dlJeJj6aoU39y_A?uid=H7I6AKkYu-1jemA5cEVu4w&utm_campaign=www_business_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) Other places like Oyako Don specialty place and Tempura Bowl place looked interesting, but there were huge lines. Bathroom: Boy was I lucky that I was a guy. Lady's restroom had a line out the door. No, seriously! A line that stretched to outside of the Edo Noren building. Whoever was designing this building made a seriously calculation error. Each of the 11 restaurants do not have their own bathroom. If that is the case, didn't someone realize that you need a large restroom to accommodate guests at 11 restaurants?
